Ipad2 AND a macbook pro???
hi all,i have a macbook pro and i am thinking about an ipad,i am wondering if there is any advantage or justifacation of going to the expense of the ipad simply because i fancy one,or is that reason enough,any thoughts?
As I replied to someone else on a recent thread about an iPad v a MacBook Air. They are two different 'animals'.
The MBP is a powerful portable computer. It is bulky, heavy and is nice to use. I keep mine at home and use it along with an iMac. Being on a wireless network, I use it from room to room (easier to move than an iMac) around the house. Very convenient. My Macbook Air goes travelling but not as much as the iPad.
The iPad is a superb device for travelling. It is light and self contained. I started with a wifi only iPad and used it where I could find access points. (Getting better in the UK). I passed that on to my wife and got a 3G /wifi iPad 2 as I'm often in areas when no wifi is available. Quite simply... fantastic.
Take a step back and think. Why do you actually want one? Your MBP more than likely does what you want/need. I bought my iPad on a whim and have never regretted it. (Hence the iPad 2).
Your id suggests you are from Doncaster. I'd suggest you check the coverage from the various UK 3G suppliers. I'm in Scotland where 3G coverage is pathetic outwith big cities. I'm 14 miles from Glasgow, have an O2 mast about 800 yards from my house and am stuck on 2G. 'nuff said

Your iPad is going to show "Connect to iTunes" screen until you either set it up successfully or restore it. If you've already set your iPad up in the past, "Connect to iTunes" typically indicates the iPad is in Recovery Mode and you must restore it.

does anyone know a way to use my ipad2 as a keyboard for my macbook pro, either directly through the usb cable or via bluetooth? the apps that enable this do not work over our corp. wifi network. thanks in advance
2011 and up Macbook Pro will support 16GB RAM.

Buying it from Apple however will only get you 8GB of RAM.
You must go to a third party vendor like owc or crucial to get more RAM. -
I seem to have at least two, and maybe four, iCloud accounts, across my iPhone, my iPad and my MacBook Pro. Can I combine them into one iCloud account? I have been able to log into what appears to be three of the four iCloud accounts I have. Two of them seem to be remarkably similar, and one appears to be only for my MacBook.I think I know which one my iPhone is backing up to, as I successfully restored from a back-up last week. The fourth iCloud account I can't access via password or security questions. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I lost my iphone and my macbook pro does not show the icloud in system pref. how do i get icloud on my mac?
iCloud is only available in Lion, 10.7. You will have to upgrade to Lion in order to get into iCloud. If you transfered a .mac or .me address to iCloud through mobile me, or you have another device iCloud enabled, then you can log into the iCloud.com website.

I have lightroom 5.7 and a macbook pro 10.9.5. Occasionally when I am editing a photo in the develop module, I suddenly get a "file not found" message and the editing ceases to work. There is no "exclamation" icon below the histogram box in the Library module or on the photo in grid view, and the histogram is gone. What is going on? Trying to find it using the "find missing photos" in the library menu does nothing.

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.

The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.

I'm having problems with 8.1 and Continuity / Handoff. It will work fine for web pages, etc. but in email when I try to do it between by iPhone 5s running 8.1 and my Macbook Pro running Yosemite I consistently get an error. "Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609. Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2. My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

I have an iMac, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro. My full iTunes library is on the iMac and iPhone, but only a handful of songs are on my MacBook. They are all associated with the same Apple ID. When I try to sync, I get a warning message stating that I will lose songs on my phone which aren't on the laptop. How transfer my music from my phone to the laptop?

I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. Can I sync the same iTunes library on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro? I've been connecting my iPhone to each and it's causing problems for me with them being different, despite my purchases always being under the same Apple ID.
The easy way to do this is to keep the library on an external drive which you can plug into either computer. Of course this isn't always the desirable solution. You can try routinely copying the library from computer to computer though this gets tiresome.

Can someone connect in FaceTime if they are using a friends Macbook Pro, yet, doens't have an Apple ID?? For example, I have an IPAD and a Macbook Pro. Can I connect to FaceTime on my Macbook Pro and connect with a friend using my IPAD????
I have also tried changing the contact emails(you can contact me by) in Facetime(diff email for IPAD and Macbook Pro). Facetime tried the call, I see the accept buttom appear and it goes away as the call never connects? Any ideas??

I have an HP Photosmart 5520 all in one printer and a MacBook Pro. Bought the MacBook Pro in Jan 2013 and the printer in Dec 2012. I was able to print to the wireless printer up until June 2013. In September, when I tried to use them together, I could not print. During the period between June and Sept., my laptop software was updated. I have tried to update the HP software on my laptop, but could not. What can I do to use this printer with my MacBook Pro? Please help!
The MacBook Pro is running at least 10.7.

I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro, is this possible if so how do I do it?
Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. Note, turning on automatic downloads or re-download past purchases may tie the device to that account for 90 days - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 https://discussions.apple.com/message/18484935 - "In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again." -
My iPhone 4s will not connect with my home WiFi network. I have ios6 on my iPhone. The connection was working perfectly before I updated my IMac and my MacBook Pro to ios 10.8.2. I have had ios6 since I purchased the phone a couple of months ago. It searches for a network and finds them, but when it asks for my password, it will not accept the password. Have never had this happen before.
