Ipad2 cannot establish internet thru minimac airport

I did all the system updates and network resets etc...
My ipad2, although it can establish a wi-fi connection with my minimac airport which I use to share internet connection, it can not establish an internet connection. It always gets 169. ... ... a phantom ip. Meanwhile my wife's ipad does not have this problem at all...
When I cancel the password protection on minimac, ipad2 gets a normal ip and internet but obviously this is not safe.

Your iPad is not really connected to the Mac mini. The 169... IP is self assigned by the iPad. It is timing out trying to connect with the network you are sharing and giving itself this IP.
I have had this happen on two occasions this past week. I reset the iPad and also reconfigured the network sharing while the iPad was rebooting after the reset. To reset the iPad press and hold the Home and Power buttons together 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then I connected the iPad with the network as if I could not see it. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap Other... Enter the name of your network and then select the type of security that you have (WEP). Enter your password and press Join.

Other than for purchased movies/TV shows, yes. You will need the internet to homeshare protected content though.

  • TS1398 My iPad Mini is not connecting to the internet thru an Airport Express

I have an Airport express at my office, and another one at home. I can easily connect to the internet with the airport at home, but I cannot get the internet at work. The mini is connecting to the base, but not the internet. I tried all the trouble shooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398, but none of them worked. Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • WRT54G - Cannot access internet but iMac airport says internet connection is fine... what's wrong?

I use a WRT54G wireless router connected to Mac. All of a sudden, I became unable to access certain websites on my iMac, such as Facebook and Apple homepages. But i can access Yahoo website. I tried resetting my linksys setup but it doesnt solve the problem. When i access my iphone via wifi at home, i am also unable to go into app store, facebook app, and emails with images won't load. I also cannot link my iphone to itunes on my iMac. What happens on my computer when I surf the internet is that the page just loads halfway and stop "responding". But my imac airport says that my internet connection is fine, however my access has become very "restricted". Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to resolve it?

To resolve difficulties accessing some websites when connected to a Linksys router you should check the following.
    Checking the router’s security settings
    Checking your computer’s security settings
Security on the web browser is set too high
Configuring the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) on the router
    Opening ports for secured sites

I cannot get my new Acer netbook to connect to the internet using my wireless home network. I connected to the network, with excellent signal strength, but just can't connect to the internet. My desktop pc, which is the computer that the network runs from, connects without a problem. No problem with gaming adapters, either. I have no problem connecting the netbook  wirelessly at work, in hotels, etc. - just at home?? I am new to the wireless network (have had it less than a year). My son has the same problem trying to connect his Toshiba laptop to our home network. Is there a router setting I need to change? Thanks for the help!

    Who is your ISP?
When you Hardwired your Laptop to your Router are you able to access Internet on your Laptop? As you have mentioned that you are connected to your Wireless Network but unable to Logon to Internet.
When your computer is Hardwired to the Router, you can login to the setup page of your Router and then click on the Status tab and under the Status tab check if you are able to find Internet IP address?
On your computer Wireless Computer.... Click on Start - RUN - CMD and click Ok.... Now in the Command Prompt window type "ipconfig" and hit enter and check if the IP address of the Wireless Network Adapter is in the range of your Router.... You can post the Details in your next post.

I have an iphone4 which cannot connect via Bluetoooth with ipad2, even though I tried all that is said in Apple support , but still no success. Really cannot understand as my iphone4 connects to a Bluetooth ear piece which is of different make and these 2 piece's are from Apple but cannot establish a connection via Bluetooth. It's surprising. So please help and advice.

The iPhone is not designed to Bluetooth pair with a computer or an iPad except for personal hotspot (sharing the phone's cellular internet connection). It can use Bluetooth for Handoff/Continuity and for Keynote Remote but the devices are not paired. More information:  Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with my computer?

  • Self-Assigned IP error and no Internet thru cable, but fine via Airport crd

I am having a vert weird problem. Airport base station hooked to a LAN router, new Mac Pro (10.5.1) hooked via cable to Airport base station. I get the self-assigned IP address and no internet. This happens also if I hook Mac Pro directly to router via cable. Oddly enough, during all of this, my iBook connects fine to the Internet, thru the base station using its Airport card. What gives, I may throw in the towel and go out and by an Airport card for my Mac Pro to get Internet connectivity, even though it sits only 6 inches from the base station. Also not, my Power Mac G4 was hooked via cable to the Airport and worked just fine...
If someone discovers a fix, please feel free to email.
    Thanks,
    Bob A.

Funny you should mention that. This weekend I noticed that I can get an IP address and internet connection, either via the Ethernet cable from my AEBS or wirelessly from the AEBS on my laptop, but only one at a time and it depends which computer (iBook or Mac Pro) is on when the AEBS is toggled on/off. The only exception is my iPod touch, which can get an internet connection no matter which is the Internet connected machine(how's that for bizzare ?).
So, it appears the Linksys router that is hooked to our building's LAN is not distributing IP addresses (disconnecting the router and connecting the AEBS directly to the LAN produces the identical single IP address situation). Since using my Mac Pro with Leopard, I can only set up the AEBS in bridge mode, putting it in the DHCP mode causes the AEBS to be undetecable by the Mac Pro (haven't checked if the iBook sees it).
So I guess the questions are now:
    - Shouldn't my router be assigning IP addresses from the LAN, isn't that it's job? Should I try buying a new one since I can't get AEBS to DHCP?
    - Why would my iPod touch me immune from the single IP address situation?
    - Any idea how to get Leopard to allow my AEBS to use DHCP?
Now I say I can't use DHCP, I mean that if I reset the AEBS, start from scratch and use assisted setup with Airport Admin Utility, and select DHCP at the place where you select Bridge or DHCP mode (or whatever the DHCP mode is called, I forget)the AEBS disappears. If I set bridge mode and then dicker around with DHCP manually, it doesn't disappear, but then it just won't give an IP address to any computer til re-rest and put back in old plain Bridge mode.
I would prefer to run the LAN right into AEBS and have it act as router and all that. I would also be fine with having a router and letting AEBS just bridge, just as long as I can connect to the Internet on more than one computer at a time.
I think I have a basic knowledge of what's going on, although my use of proper terminology is lacking, so feel free to follow up with any questions, I'd be happy to clarify.
This Leopard Mac Pro replaced a PowerMac G4 with Tiger and this all worked fine with it. When I traded computers and didn't get Internet I reset and re-setup the base station, so this might all be a Leopard problem
Of course, it brings me back to shouldn't the router hooked to my building's LAN be distributing IP addresses?
Thank you in advance for your help on this isssue.

  • Unable to connect Roku to Airport Extreme, cannot establish LAN

I have been trying to hook up a Roku box but cannot establish a LAN. Any suggestions?

Is your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) configured to create an 802.11b/g compatible network?
Is your wireless network configured to use WPA2? Macs with 802.11b AirPort cards can not connect to WPA2 protected networks. They can connect to WPA protected networks IF they are running OS 10.3 or better. They can also connect to WEP protected networks.

You can just unplug the express and use the Uverse wireless or ethernet directly to it.

  • Connected to the Airport Express network, but cannot access internet

I am using Airport Express (n) to create a wireless network in my apartment. It is connected via ethernet to a Motorola cable modem. My Macbook and iphone are on the network and I am able to connect to the internet without issue. I have a new Samsung N120 (wireless b/g) which finds and connects to the wireless network (Signal Strenth=excellent)but I am unable to connect to the internet. My Airport settings are for n, b/g compatible. The N120 has had no trouble connecting to other wireless networks. Samsung and the Cable Company can offer no insight, hoping for the Apple experts to help me figure this one out. Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Once you have the wireless connection established from the Samsung, have you power cycled your complete network? If not, power down every device including the Samsung DVD player. Order is not important.
After a few minutes, start the modem first and let it run a few moments alone. Then power up the AirPort Express and let it run a few moments. Next, power up computers one at a time for a few minutes and check to make sure that you can establish internet connectivity. Finally, power up other devices one at a time and check for internet connectivity.
Not sure what else to suggest as your post indicates that the AirPort Express is functioning correctly.

  • When I click on the Mozilla Firefox internet icon, it cannot establish a connection to anything

I cannot access the internet using mozilla. It has a error message that says that "Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server ... "

See [[Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can]]. A common cause, as shown in that article, is a firewall blocking Firefox.

  • Cannot connect to internet using wireless airport on my iMAC

I am running Leopard on my iMac and less than a week ago I was able to connect to the internet by wireless airport express. Now it says that my airport is working and connected but when I open Safari, I only get a partial url load and then it freezes and eventually after about 3-5 minutes it gives me a "You are not connected to the internet". I recently installed updates and I believe that after that is when it stopped working. After hours of troubleshooting research on the internet, I've tried creating a new network, editing the location from Automatic to a new one, simply shutting down and unplugging for a couple of minutes and plugging back in and rebooting for example and nothing has worked. Does anybody have any thoughts that could help me get back up and running again?
    Thanks!

Even though your profile does NOT show you updated to 10.5.2 I suspect you did by the way you are talking. The problem with 10.5.2 is in an extension file ( which is really a folder ) it is the root to the wi-fi problems. I will be posting a fix 1-2 days. In the mean time you should download a program called Pacifist Vers. 2.5.2. The trial version will work but I suggest you pay the $20 shareware because he earn it and if my feelings are correct about Apple you will need it again.

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks
