  • Network Save Issue--Can't turn off Protected Mode

So my original problem is one that's been asked here a few times before: when I try to save a document in Acrobat, it makes me save a new version with a different name (so that I have to go back and delete the old version). If I try to just hit "Save," I get the error message: "This document cannot be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open." I am on a local area network with just one other computer (so I know the document isn't really open), running Windows 7 with Acrobat X. I should also mention that I've checked numerous files and none are read-only.
When this question is asked, it often gets the answer to turn off Adobe's Protected Mode by going to Edit-->Preferences-->General and unchecking Enable Protected Mode at Start-up.
    Fair enough.
The problem is, I don't have that check box in my General Preferences menu. It's especially puzzling since I've seen these instructions given to other users with Acrobat X, who have said it worked. Am I missing something? Is there some other option I can chack or uncheck that is equivalent to this? Thanks for your help.

At times there also seem to be some issues with saving to a network link. When this happens, try saving locally and see if that does the job. Try working on the document locally and see if the issue goes away. If so, then you are dealing with a more complex issue involving networks. Unfortunately, I do not have a solution in that case, but it might be helpful to know if that is the issue.

  • How come I get 3G when I turn off my LTE?

How come I get 3G when I turn off my LTE but when my friends turn their LTE off they get 4G? I have Verizon as my phone's carrier.

Because you have a Verizon iPhone and when you turn off LTE it falls back to their EVDO network and correctly shows 3G. Your friends either have a T-Mobile or AT&T iPhone and they refer to HSPA+ as "4G".
A Sprint iPhone will behave exactly like yours.

Slow, intermittent.  Sometimes bootable sometime not. Odd behavior.
Sounds to me like a classic case of your HD failing.
Your SMART status may still show verified, with no errors on the Apple Hardware Test, Disk Utility shows no problems on Disk Repair-  this is of no help.
I trust you have a good back-up and a bootable clone.

  • Cannot get my flash to turn off on my iphone 4? any ideas??

for the last couple of weeks i cannot get my flash to turn off on my phone4, even when battery is completly empty it still stays on. It also drains my battery very quickly.

Generally 10-20 seconds.  If it goes beyond 45 seconds it probably will not reset.  At this point you should plug the phone into a wall charger for at least 45 minutes to be sure it has an adequate charge, then try to put it in recovery mode to restore it, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.  If you can't put it in recovery mode you will have to try to put it in DFU mode to restore it (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2648467?threadID=2648467&tstart=0).  If that fails, then you will need to bring it to the Apple store for evaluation.  It should still be under warranty.

Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone
If you can’t turn off Find My iPhone on the device, turn off the device so it goes offline, then remove it from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Note:   If you have an iOS device, you can also remove your device by first erasing it—just follow the instructions below to remove a device you don’t have. You can later restore the device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
                               Turn off the device.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find on another computer with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud).                                                      If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, select the offline device, then click Remove from Account. If you don’t see Remove from Account, click All Devices again, then click the Delete (x) button next to the device.                                                      If the device comes online again, it will reappear in Find My iPhone. To make sure your device doesn’t reappear, turn off Find My iPhone on the device (follow the instructions above to remove an iOS device or Mac), or if you have an iOS device, you can erase it, then remove it (follow the instructions below to remove an iOS device you no longer have).

  • Whenever I turn off my Mac Pro, everything becomes really slow for hours. Help!

Whenever I turn off my Macbook Pro (mid 2012), everything becomes really slow, and it takes minutes to open a file. This happened a week ago when it told me to install osX again. But at that time, I repaired my mac, and it got to normal in a day, but this time its not. Help?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Time Capsule freezes network when the Internet is turned off...

MB Pro late 2008, 500GB TC, ATV
Living in a shared house, my TC is connected to the internet via Ethernet to a modem in another room. The wireless network works great and has no problems at all... until the modem in the other room gets turned off each night (out of my control).
45minutes to an hour later the entire network freezes... It also causes Finder on the MB Pro to freeze. This freeze can last up to 10 minutes, sometimes the only resolution being to force quit Finder. When everything starts working again, the previously full wireless signal shows as empty with an exclamation mark showing that there is no internet connectivity.
I've heard that switching network configurations can cause MBPs to freeze...
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Or have a fix?
    Cheers,
    Bryn

You mention - "also, my PSP always detects the wireless network incorrectly. i gave the network WPA(TKIP) security, but the PSP detects it as WEP and therefore can't connect at all."
I don't own a PSP nor do I know anyone who does so I really don't know, but does the PSP support WPA?  If not then that would be your problem there.  It's looking for a WEP key and your router is broadcasting WPA.

  • Network Extender Dropping Calls when handing off to Outdoor Network

If I stand right next to my network extender, it works great.  the moment I move outside a 15 ft ring, I begin to drop calls.  i believe it is because my Blackberry is now getting a stronger signal from the outdoor network and I should be handing off to outdoor network.  Instead of the call continuing, it drops.    Also, the same thing happens when I am on a call inside my house, get into my car and drive away; I drop the call.  I have called VZW Tech support and was told to power down the unit, yadda, yadda, yadda and call back if I still have the problem. Well, I still have the problem, so I am posting this in the hope someone has seen this and it saves me the hour long support call that doesn't resolve my issue...

I have the exact same problem with a Verizon/Samsung network extender that started dropping calls after about 30 seconds into a conversation. This problem started at almost the exact same time as those reported on this forum. Verizon has not once mentioned that it may be a problem on their end and we quit using the extender almost a year ago. However, with new smart phones in the household and multiple reception problems, we need to find a solution. I think Verizon owes its customers/supporters a solution since it sold the extender devices to the consumers at substantial expense. I for one, would like to either get my money back along with the time spent trying to rectify the problem, or get a solution that will allow us to carry on conversations in our home. It is ridiculous with the amount of money spent on monthly Verizon Phone bills, that we get such poor service - simply ridiculous!

  • Why do I have to reconnect to my Network manually every time I turn off my laptop? But yet it stores my password.

Why do I have to reconnect to my network every time I turn off my laptop? But yet it stores my password. It has been happening ever since I upgraded to OS X Lion. I have two default wireless routers I connect to (my home and work) and yet everytime I turn on my computer I have to manually select which network I want to join from the drop down menu at the top of my desktop. Any suggestions? I dont want to have to manually choose, it should just look for those two networks automatically and connnect to whichever one is available.

It was already set to Automatic......and still it doesnt connect to my network.

  • I lose my Wi-Fi network settings every time I turn off

Hello, and thank you for your time. Just bought my iPod Touch yesterday, and am loving it.
One problem I'm having, though. I can't keep the settings for the network I want to use.
I configured my router's network on it. Put in WEP and the security key. I was connected to Wi-Fi just fine, no problems.
Then I turned the iPod off. When I turned it back on, even though the iPod is configured with the router (which is on private network, so my "lovely" neighbors don't leech off it), my network disappears. My PlayStation 3 that I'm not using for a network appears every time I turn on and off. But, every time I turn the iPod on, I have to put in the information for the network I want to use (name, security, password) all over again.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry if there's an answer here already and I missed it. Thank you.
    Walter

You need to select to "remember" the access point so it automatically reconnects unless by "private network" you mean that you're not broadcasting the SSID. If that's the case, it won't reconnect automatically-it's a feature, not a bug. My advice, broadcast the SSID and set a strong password. Hiding it doesn't do much for you from a security standpoint. Setting a 40 digit random password does.
If this doesn't work, do a Restore.

  • Using ios 5.0.1 in an iPhone 4. Can't get the gps to turn off in the Reminder app even though I do not have a location reminder set. Battery life suffers because of it. What can I do other than keep the app turned off all the time in settings?

Installed ios 5 and created a location reminder to see how it worked. The gps icon came on and I expected it would because how else would the phone know where I'm at.
After I was reminded and marked it as complete I also deleted the reminder from the app. The gps never went off and the only way I can get it to turn off is by switching the app off in the location settings.
Installed ios 5.0.1 and the same thing. I turned on the app in the location settings to see what would happen and I was again reminded by location to the same reminder. It said in the alert that the reminded was 28 days old. Like I said I deleted the reminder from the app. Somehow it's still in the apps memory and I have no idea how to get rid of it for good.
    Thank you,
    Marilyn
