IPAD2 is not recognized by my IMAC i7

I've read just about everything in the forums, both relavent and not relavent to my problem, including the links some answers included.
I have a new WIFI IPAD2 which I purchased about six months ago.  I have been charging and syncing it with my IMAC i7 Quad, which I have had less then a year.  I plugged my IPAD into the IMAC today and it would not charge or be recognized by Itunes(10.3.1).  The IPAD would charge on the wall outlet.  All programs and OS are current.  I followed some suggestion found in the forums.  One appeared to start to work, but I had to RESTORE the IPAD.  So I went through that process but when it started to load I got the 1611 error message.  I tried it again using different USB ports on the IMAC, no joy.  So now I have a wiped IPAD2.  I dug  out an old IMAC I had in the basement and did the same thing.  After updating the IMAC's software, it did go into the RESTORE mode.  It's not completely done yet but the Apps are loaded and it is almost done.  But it isn't charging. I hope I have enough power to complete the process.   I'm assuming it's because it's an older model it won't charge.  How do I get this IPAD2 to be recognized by my newer IMAC?
I also, for grins, plugged in my IPOD4.  It also is not recognized by iTunes on the new IMAC, which I use all the time with my IPOD4.  But, it does charge on the IMAC.
Any Ideas?

2nd Gen iPad Mini stopped working yesterday.  Won't startup under and configuration and is not recognized by my iMac.  I believe it upgraded itself to iOS 8 (????)

    Hey Kenneth,
So it sounds as if your iPad is not responding at all when you try to turn it on, is that correct? If so, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If you get it to start up and it is still not recognized by iTunes on your Mac, use the steps in this article to troubleshoot that issue -
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,

    Cenzon-
Are you syncing over WiFi or over the USB cable?  Try doing the opposite.
Also try a different USB port on the iMac.

  • Airport card is not recognized by G3 iMac

I recently acquired a G3 600 MHz iMac, running OS X 10.4.11, and I want to join the iMac to my wireless network. So I purchased an Airport card ( tested card on a ibook running 10.4.11 and it works fine.) and seated it in the G3 iMac. For some reason the iMac does not recognize it one bit. I checked profiler and System Preferences and no sign of an Airport Card. I then opened the iMac and reseated the card, I even changed out the adapter with another adapter I had. After researching online, some people suggested an archival OS restore. Although I would try that but unfortunately I do not have any of the original install disks. So my question is: does anyone know how I can make the os recognize the card?
    Greatly appreciate the help.

There are two versions of the original AirPort card, and their identify can be determined using the information below.
The poster you replied to may be referring to this post quoted below, though even if he had the initially issued card, it would not explain why the card is not recognized. Though incapable of supporting advanced security, it would otherwise be recognized and operate as expected if seated properly, as you have described.
The original AirPort card was equivalent to a WaveLAN Silver card, and supported only 40-bit WEP or 64-bit encryption, and did not support WPA.
The original AirPort Base Station which shipped with these cards on board was limited to 10 clients, had only a 10BbaseT LAN port, and supported only 40-bit WEP. Later cards which looked physically identical, supported 104 bit WEP, or 128-bit encryption, as did the AirPort Base Stations which included them. This second card, also manufactured initially in the Netherlands for Apple by AT&T's Lucent unit—later know as ORiNOCO—was equivalent to the WaveLAN Gold card.
The 661-2219 part number is distinguished by the M7600LL/* marketing designator screened on the label, as well as engineering revision part number 825-4889 and worldwide procurement part number 630-2883. EEE code G3G is embedded right-most in the last four characters of each part's serial number. *This character is typically A, B or C.
The 661-2569, on the other hand, is distinguished by an M7600LL/D or later marketing designator, engineering revision part number 825-5620, the same worldwide procurement part number 630-2883 and typically the phrase '128 bits' along the lower center of the label. EEE codes LH8, M6Y or QAC are embedded right-most in the last four characters of each part's serial number.
While a procurement number generally changes when a service part number change is made, this product did not, as Lucent remained its sole supplier, the 'change' to the card involved different firmware and not a physical change to the product, and Apple personnel largely considered them equivalent, though they were and are not.
Graphite AirPort base station models initially used the M7600LL/A, B or C cards, and was itself designated the M7601LL/A and later, the M7601LL/B. Both base stations were also designated as 661-2265 whole unit service replacement parts. Every card we've ever seen in a Graphite base station was a 661-2219 and was marked as described above.
Apple did not adequately document many of these parts and there applications at the time they were still in use, and all have disappeared from their inventory—except in limited cases—as has much of what existed for documentation. Given their personnel changes over the years, it's quite likely that no one there now can recall the subtle differences or properly identify these products. Once there are designated vintage, then obsolete, they drop quickly off of the radar.
While any properly functioning iMac compatible AirPort card properly mounted in a 076-0804 adapter would show up in the System Profiler without the antenna connected, the performance of such a card would be poor to abysmal.
I believe that you are completely correct when you indicate that either the adapter is not seated properly, that it is not working properly, or that the logic board is defective. The latter two scenarios are quite unlikely, though possible.

  • Help needed - External mobile hard drive not recognized by my iMac

Hi, i received a Freecom Mobile Drive XXS 250 GB USB 2.0 today, after plugging it into my iMac, i am finding that nothing is showing up, and it isn't being recognized at all.
I've tried connecting it via all the USB ports, i have tried connecting it and disconnecting other cables (like speaker + printer cables) and it's not working. I'm not all that computer literate, but after scouring the internet for hours i understand the problem could be that my USB ports are 1.1 and a bus powered hard drive might not get the sufficient power from them?
I have looked at the system requirements for the hard drive and my iMac apparently has all the requirements this needs to work. I have checked Disc Utility and the external hard drive isn't even showing up there. I thought i might have had to re-format the drive, but i checked and it is already FAT-32 so should be ok?
Very puzzled, and am out of ideas on how to get this to work (need to transfer files quite urgently - want to upload some new software and don't want to risk losing the files on my internal hard drive, as my computer is getting about slow and unreliable also have the problem of my cd burner now being defunct for some reason, but thats unrelated to this hopefully)
Has anyone got any ideas on how i could get this to show up on my computer? Any info will be much appreciated!
    Regards, coby x

    Hey coby,
Well thanks for the star. Not sure I deserve it.
i then tried connecting the drive to each USB port again, and voila! i have found one it works in. I guess my computer's ports must be a little worn.
Hmm well try looking inside and see if there's some smutz in there, if the contacts are dirty or bent or worn.
i was starting to think i would have to go out and get a USB hub to give it some more power.
Is it powered off the USB? If so that actually might be a good idea since that puts a lot of strain on the connectors. Even if it's self powered it might be a good idea since it would take the strain off an obviously flakey USB.

  • Keyboard and ipod touch not recognized by my iMac

All of a sudden my aluminium anonized wired keyboard stopped working in MY imac (works with other mac), my ipod the same. It´s like my usb ports doesnt recognize them anymore. The ports work just fine when I use a flash drive for example.
Right now I´m working with an old keyboard.
And as I said the aluminium keyboard works in other mac and my ipod charges battery in other computer so I know is not a cable issue...
    Help!!!
    thank you

Some moments ago I did the procedure as described. When I started the computer, the Bluetooth symbol was not "off"(grey) neither "on"(black), instead it was the grey symbol but with a horizontal zig zag black line in the middle (BT was off when I turned the computer off) then some seconds later it began searching for mouse and keyboard. The same, didn´t recognized the Al keyboard when I connected it.
After, I tried the same but with all connected, including iPod and the mouse connected to the keyboard. When started, the iPod that was in sleep turned on and for less than a second the light in my wacom turned on also but...it was just that. The iPod actually wasn´t charging neither the keyboard was working.
    The mistery continues...
The thing is that the bluetooth shouldn´t turn on by itself right? and of course it keeps looking for its unwired friends that I don´t have

  • 2.5" external USB hard drive not recognized by my iMac

I have a small 2.5" external USB hard drive that my intel iMac will not mount or see. My 12" G4 Powerbook sees it fine and it is formatted in Mac OS Extended. My iMac is bootcamped and XP on my iMac sees the drive but not OS X Tiger on the iMac, (wierd) I have Tiger on both my Macs too.
Why does the intel based OS X refuse to see this external 2.5 HD. It sees a 3.5" USB one I have but not the small one. I know it is software.

  • HT1349 New 27 inch Thunderbolt 2nd monitor not recognized by 27inch imac running windows 7.

I have a 27 inch imac running windows 7 and just purchased a 27 inch Apple thunderbolt display to use as a second monitor. Ive connected the second monitor via a thunderbolt cable however it is not being recongnized by the imac on windows 7.   The screen is just black. I've been to the Multiple monitors setup screen in the windows control panel and it does not detect the second monitor.   I have boot camp version 5.05033 installed which I installed today.   If I run the IOS 10 operating system the second display works OK.
The graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 6970M card.
I notice that if I have the second monitor plugged into the thunderbolt port the imac will not start up. I have to disconnect the monitor and then the imac will boot up.
I mainly use windows (unfortunately) because I have software that won't run on a MAC so I really need this second monitor to work with Windows.
How can I get the second monitor Thunderbolt display to work on Windows 7.0 ?
    Thank you

  • 3rd gen ipod touch not recognized by the iMac and iTunes?

I tried to connect my 3rd generation iPod touch to my iMac so I can sync all my iTunes to mine? However, my iMac and my iTunes won't recognize mine. So, I'm just wondering why not?

this has got to be the worst and most annoying problem of ipods. you can connect it up and wait awhile, you can then unlock it and play around with whatever you've got on your ipod untill it picks it up (because sometimes the computer is slow at recgonising the ipod) you can un-plug and re-plug your ipod. Hope this helps.

  • IPod Nano and iPod Shuffle not recognized by my iMac

I'm new to Mac and just purchased a Nano and a Shuffle.  I spent the weekend transferring music from iTunes to both devices without any issues.  A few hours later I went to transfer additional songs and my Mac would not recognize either device.  The screen on my Nano says"Connected - Eject before disconnecting".  My shuffle blinks orange.  That's it...I have reset the Nano and nothing changes.  I'm hoping someone out there can help me.
    Thanks!

I had this problem with my MacBook. What finally worked was, while connected, toggling the hold switch on/off/on and then holding down the menu and center buttons until the apple logo appeared and it truly reset itself.

  • 3210 not recognized by a IMac running 10.10.1 for scanning

I'm attempting to hook up my 3210 to a new Mac running 10.10.1. It is connected by USB cable. I tried printing, and that works fine. If I try using Scan Picture via SP Device Manager I get the response that the scanner could not be initiallized and an error report window pops up. Scan Pro is greyed out for new scans. I even tried accessing the scanner from the print utility, and that didn't work. I did download the printer driver from your website yesterday.

    Hi,
The HP Device Manager and the HP Scan Pro are very old applciations, those are intended for OS X 10.5 and not for later OS versions such as OS X Yosemite 10.10.. the driver you have downloaded is not intended for your OS
First click the Apple icon and then on App Store.
Click on Software Udpate, then the Top Store menu and click on Reload Page.
Install any listed HP Updates to ensure you have the latest drivers, then scan using Image Capture or preciew as listed below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04467713&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
If you still experience issues, you will need to fully remove the incorrectly installed software and then install the correct one. for that go to Applications > Hewlett-Packard and click on Uninstall to remove any incompatible software which may prevent getting the correct one.
Next follow these steps to manually remove the incompatible drivers, expend the Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9 > Method two: Uninstall the printer software > Method two: Uninstall the printer software
    section:
