Ipad2 no sim error

I have an ipad2 3G which was never locked.  I have been using it with my local telephone operator but after updating to ios5, the error "no sim card found" keeps popping up and I have to restart the ipad several times to make it recognise the simcard.  The warranty has just expired but this is annoying for a fairly new device.  Does anyone have a solution, i have tried to reinstall the software but that does not help?

Me too. Airplane mode on and off worked for a day but now nothing. Think faulty sim reader so basically we're screwed.

  • I've upgraded my 3gs to ios 5.1 and I get a "no sim" error. please help!

    Hello everyone,
I recently updated to the new itunes and it prompted me to upgrademy iphone 3gs to ios 5.1. I did so and now I cannot activate my phone. I am stuck on the set up, which I go through, only to get the "no sim" error. Have removed sim (tested - works in another phone), replaced into iphone and tried activation again with no luck. Any offerings are much appreciated!
Apple, you are pulling a blackberry.

    gdgmacguy,
    Thanks for the response.
    1. My comment re: blackberry is not meant to be ignorant. Truth is that many iphone users are experiencing the same issues with essentially no connectivity to any network. So, my comment is meant to be actual fact. In fact, as of last night (Jan 5th), i still see many isers - 4gs, ipad2, many devices - still experiencing the same issue.
    2. Thanks for the "more like this box tip. I have read through all relevant tips/advice and no luck. Have tried removing/reinserting SIM but nothing. Have cleaned sim and sim tray and nothing. Tested sim in an older phone and sim works fine.
    But do appreciate your reply.

  • No sim error on my iPad with SIM card installed

My iPad has a new SIM card in it but gives a no sim error message, help!

I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but after having the same "No Sim Card" problem after installing iOS7, trying the various "fixes" ... removing and replacing Sim Card, turning Airport Mode off and on, etc., without a permanent fix, just now I removed the Sim Card and cleaned the inside of the Sim Card slot on my iPad2.
To do this I took a thin flexible piece of plastic ... it's actually one of the removable collar stiffeners from a men's dress shirt, but a sized strip of cardboard would also work.  I folded a cut-to-fit strip of paper towel ( I used heavy duty Bounty paper towel so it wouldn't fall apart ... a piece of clean cotton would work as well) over the plastic strip, soaked it with isopropyl alcohol, and carefully slid it back and forth in the slot a couple of times.
Then I reinserted the sim card and turned the iPad back on.  At first I got the no card message again, but after simply turning Airport mode off and on, then wi-fi off and on, it started working again.  This was a few hours ago.  I've gone back to the iPad several times now and when I've turned it on, it continues to work properly.  Only time will tell if this will work permanently, but since I've had the no card message non-stop for 2 weeks now, it's definitely encouraging.
It makes sense, because one of the fixes was to clean the Sim Card.  Why wouldn't the Sim Card's receptacle be just as likely to get dirty or have a tiny bit of dust on it, stopping the connection? Wish me luck.

  • Invalid/Failed SIM Error

Since updating to IOS7.0.3 last night on my 5 I now get SIM Failed or Invalid Sim Error Message.  I shut it down, took out the card, toggle airplane mode and nothing seems to work.  Any ideas?

Maybe you should consider getting a replacement SIM from your carrier...

  • Why would a factory-unlocked Iphone get an invalid SIM error?

I bought 2 unlocked iPhones to sell overseas and they are giving an invalid SIM error.  Both of them are the factory-unlocked version.  Could someone help me with this?

Positive that they are unlocked.  I bought them personally at an Apple Store and the invoice says unlocked iPhones (I also paid the unlocked iPhone price).
The Cell Service Provider has iPhone as one of its supported phones.  Not sure exactly which MicroSIM the person is using though.

Before the update i had no problems.

  • Keep Getting "No SIM" Error

I have no idea why this is happening but it is intermittent but has happened 4 times over the last 24 hours. Out of nowhere my phone will simply say "NO SIM CARD" and then instead of showing AT&T it has "No Sim" in there. I try turning off the phone and turning it on again and that occasionally will help. I have also opened up the SIM slot, made sure the SIM Card was in there correctly and restarted and that sometimes helps.
The issue is that this problem keeps happening and I am VERY frustrated.

My No Sim Card Installed, Invalid Sim Card, No Sim error messages began occuring when I traveled to an area that had very little cell signal to no service at all (it was working perfectly fine for 3 days prior). Since returning home, where I have 3-5 bars of 3G and good reception, my iPhone continued to give me the No Sim error. Putting the iPhone into and back out of Airplane Mode, turning the iPhone off and on sometimes helped, but most often did not... and if it did, the No Sim error would return within about 2 minutes. So I took the iPhone 4 into an Apple Store. They tested it, switched out sim cards left and right, tried my sim card in different iPhones, and determined that the cause can't be determined, and they replaced the iPhone. So far, 6 hours later, I haven't had the No Sim error appear. Great service.
The fact that the No Sim errors began only after I started receiving low cell signals and No Service messages is suspicious. It could be mere coincidence, but maybe not. In any case, it "felt" like a hardware problem to me. Not the most scientific or objective criteria, but it appears to have been the right choice. I'll keep you all posted...

  • After upgrading to iOS 7.0.6, I get intermittent "invalid SIM" error.

After upgrading to iOS 7.0.6, I get intermittent "invalid SIM" error where the carrier strength (top left corner) should be.   Of course I loose all data and cellular connections at that time.   The only workaround is to power the device off and back on.   I have to do this at least once every 2 or 3 days since the upgrade to 7.0.6.   Anyone else having SIM related errors since the upgrade?
This happened once before when I first updated to iOS 7.   The next patch that Apple sent out resolved the issue, and I haven't seen it again until now.
I hear 7.1 may be coming out as soon as next week.   Any chance this issue is resolved in that release?

Thanks for the input.  That link shows steps that I've already taken.  I know it sounds weird, but I believe it may be software related.  Like I said before, this happened once before when I first upgraded to iOS7.   I lived with the issue, having to reboot the phone every couple of days, until the next update from Apple.  Once they sent out the next update, the problem went away.
If it is not software related, then it must be a corruption of the software download and installation.  I did it over the air.  Possibly downloading whatever release comes out next will fix it because it's a new installation.  The software itself may not have the fix in it, but the act of downloading and installing the new software may fix it.  Just a thought...

  • Continue having the SIM error. This started when I downloaded the last software upgrade to improve battery life. Please create a new upgrade to solve this!

SInce three weeks ago, exactly when I downloaded the new software upgrade to solve the battery short duration, I started to have problems with my iphone, every morning appears a SIM error and I have to reset the device to get internet signal. And then I have to do teh same every 3-4 hours because the sim error appears again! I brouth the device to my phone company ( telcel) but they cannot do nothing to fix this. They told that Apple know about this, because it is happening to many people. So, we all are waiting a new upgrade SOON PLEASE!!!

Gracias. Espero tu respuesta.

  • NO SIM error. unable to make or receive calls

I preorder a phone in june, and phone didn't work out of box. can not male call or reiceve calls!. When I got exchange after verizon store, I was able use it in certain areas but not all areas... I wasted week with the phone decided to return the phone after waiting for 4 days for service call tag to the engineer to find out what is the problem... I got message from tech saying "problem is solved, it was tower issue." I called back to order another phone, but they said I cannot get the same price as before, because they havent processed my return at the time... I waited over 2 weeks to order a new phone and when I finally got it... it had same problems...  I called them a 3 hours ago, cust rep said I can not return the phone, and had to ask for  the manager. Manager I spoke to was pertty nice, and it seem like he cared. He agreed to take the phone back if I can get it return within 2weeks from orginal date of purchased( Its been 1 week because rep made me wait for another service call tag for engineer. she said she will put it in as highest priority case and she will follow up with and let me know (I never heard from her since that day....what a service)) He also offer to give me 15 dollar for lost of service when I asked for it, but I found out now he did somethings  else to my account. He had changed my unlimited data and 700 shared minute to 2gb with 700 shared minutes.. is this legal?
ps. I'm not the only one with problem.
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-s-iii/189239-vzw-s3-intermittently-saying-no-sim-2.html

I feel you pain, I'm in the same boat, I'm on my second S3. the first one threw no sim errors but at least it could make calls. The second one I have also give's me no sim errors and I can't make or receive calls. I have a ticket open currently for this issue, but they do not seem to be doing anything with it. I'm still within the 48 hour window for resolution but I need to make a decision by tomorrow as my 14 days end then. This is the first time I ever had a problem with Verizon, it takes me back to when I had AT&T, at lease I knew I would have crappy service.

  • I've bought an Iphone 4S in the UK. Using the phone in Argentina, it displays the "No Service" and "Invalid SIM" errors sporadically. The only solution is to reset the phone (switching it ON/OFF). Any suggestions?

I've bought an Iphone 4S in the UK. Using the phone in Argentina, it displays the "No Service" and "Invalid SIM" errors sporadically. The only solution is to reset the phone (switching it ON/OFF). Also most of the time, the SMS are not sent nor received...
The phone was checked by my carrier (phone company, Movistar) and they replaced the micro SIM card. bear in mind that there's no Apple shop here and the Iphone 4S is NOT available in Argentina!!!
    Any suggestions?

    Dear all,
(THIS CONCERNS MTC TOUCH CUSTOMERS IN LEBANON)
I've received an email with a solution to the problem; you have to update to the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406)!! It's been 1Hour and so far my iPHone 4S is working just fine. Please follow carefully the below instructions:
RUN A FULL BACK UP BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS
    1. Download the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) from the internet. (800MB)
    2. Connect your iPhone 4S to iTunes.
    3. Once connected, two options will show: ‘restore’ and ‘check for update’.
    4. Press down SHIFT and choose ‘check for update’. (if you click ‘check for update’ without pressing down SHIFT doesn’t work.)
    5. Select the new firmware (9A406). Note that the file should be renamed ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw’  (instead of ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.zip’), i.e. changing the file extension from ZIP to IPSW. iTunes will now work alone and update your iPhone 4S.
A full back up is recommended before firmware upgrade.
    HOPE THIS HELPS

  • After iOS 5.1.1 upgrade, there is a "No SIM" error on iPhone 4S!

I bought an iPhone 4S from USA last month and I want to use it in Turkey. Actually, I have just used it for last three days. But yesterday, I updated it with iOS 5.1.1, and then iPhone can't see the SIMcard, although I haven't touched the SIM. Now, it returns always "No SIM" error. So, I can't use my iPhone anymore. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi,
    No, it's never jailbroken.
My simcard was old, I changed it with a new one, 256 K. Then iPhone can see the sim. I think the problem is about supporting issue of iOS 5.1.1 for sim's version.
Thank you for your quick response, KiltedTim.
    Regards,
    Ubeyde
