Ipad2 not syncing in recovery mode

I was just trying to update my ipad2 with ios 4.3.3 to ios 7 but once i tried it for some reason it went to recovery mode and now i cant change it back. Itunes is not syncing with the ipad so i cant do anything, tried all the reset and DFU all that. help? thanks

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • Ipad 2 not detected in recovery mode on my ASUS Windows 7 laptop

I have had this issue on all my idevices since I got this laptop, so this isn't directly associated with the new update.
I can sync my idevices with itunes on my laptop without any issues, but every time I try to install an iOS update, when it get to the stage where it is "preparing to restore your device" or some such, the laptop installs a new device driver and then itunes just spins awhile until it finally spits out error 1601 and then the device is stuck on the screen where it prompts you to connect to itunes.
At this point itunes on my laptop will not detect the device.  I can see it listed in my device manager and it claims the usb driver is working correctly, however it no longer makes the beeping sound when I plug or unplug the cable, though it does disappear and reappear in device manager, which indicates it recognizes ipad plugged in, but not in the same way.
I have tried all the advice on the apple website re: unintalling reinstalling itunes an all it's components, disabling antivrus, firewall and non essential services, removing usb devices etc to no avail.
If I take my device over to my parents 32 bit vista desktop it recognizes it, installs the driver and itunes recognizes an ipad in recovery mode and I was able to restore the software and update to the new iOS on that desktop, then had to bring it back to my laptop to restore the software from my last backup.
My first question is....when the new ios is being installed is it putting the device into recovery mode as part of the process or is it going into recovery mode because the process errors out?  If it's the former, then my assumption is that the whole issue is that for some reason something on my laptop is stopping itunes from being able to recognize my ipad while in recovery mode.  If the later, then ?
My second question is....is the problem the driver, the usb port or something else unique to the laptop?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but if i let winows detect it after uninstalling it can't find a driver and i get the exclamation point.  If i try to manually install per the apple instructions, it tells me that the driver file is not compatiable with my device.  So either windows is somehow installing the wrong driver while device is in recovery or the comp isn't detecting what type of device it is properly or ?
I'm hoping maybe i can get the next os update over the cloud and this will become a non-issue, but having to go borrow a pc to update this thing gets really old as the laptop is my only computer, so any ideas would be appreciated.
Laptop is an ASUS ROG - not sure the exact model running 64 bit Windows 7  It has two usb ports and i have the same issue on either one.
The PC i successfully updated my device on is an older Dell running a 32 bit version of Vista

Hopefully this will help you.  Try placing your iPad in recovery mode again.  You may have to try this a few times.

  • IOS8 update failed on my iPad2, now stuck in recovery mode

    Hi there
I am in a bit of a pickle! This is what happened:
    1.     Plugged my iPad2 into iTunes, downloaded iOS8 and it began to install;
    2.     iTunes downloaded the software and began to update iPad;
    3.     Device showed Apple Logo and progress bar BUT then update failed. iTunes informed me it failed, clicked OK. iPad stuck and did not recover;
    4.     Did a hard reset;
    5.     iPad showed Red iTunes logo and said to connect to iTunes;
    6.     Connected to iTunes which stated: iPad Recovery Mode, If you are experiencing problems with your iPad, you can restore to original settings by clicking Restore iPad
    7.     Clicked restore iPad - warnings about losing data etc...
    8.     iTune redownloaded iOS8,
    9.     After downloading iTunes went back to the iPad Recovery Mode screen,
    10.   iTunes redownloaded iOS8
    11.   goes into an infinite loop back to point 6 and round and round we go.....
If I leave the iPad it exits recovery mode and tries to restart - but black screen after apple logo.......
Going back into recovery mode - it does the same again.... no joy...
I'm really stuck - thankfully have a backup, but does anyone have any suggestions?????????
    Thankyou!
PS - iTunes, and OS Mavericks is fully up to date...

It's not possible to revert to a previous system. You're failing and it won't work, because it's not possible.
If you want to give your operating system a fresh start, here's how to do it ... reset to factory default ...
Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!
First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.
Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.
On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.
This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

  • MacBook Pro won't start after upgrade, not even in recovery mode

    So here is what happened:
Yesterday, the app store icon told me that one update was not installed yet, because I need to restart the computer first (hard for me to reconstruct now, because I didn't really read it carefully, which I should have done, but Apple"just works™", so hey, why should I ). So I restarted the computer. This is where things went very wrong. Eventually during reboot, text appeared on the grey Apple logo screen, it looked like verbose boot mode, but overlaid on the "regular" grey boot screen with the  logo. Before I could read, what was happening, I got a kernel panic with the "hold down the power button to restart".
Holding down the power button took me to the login/file vault unlock screen (I have my disk encrypted). Unfortunately neither keyboard nor trackpad worked. So I held down the power button again, which brought me back to the login/file vault unlock screen.
At this point I noticed that it said in the lower part of the screen that, in case I had problems to enter my login information, I should press the power button for a long time and then again for a short time to get into recovery mode (this is all from my memory, I might not recall it exactly as it happened).
This made things kind of worse, it showed me the Apple logo with the progress bar, which advanced to about a third or a quarter, then the progress stopped and I ended up on a grey screen with a grey crossed circle in the center (looks kind of like an european no parking sign).
I tried booting into recovery mode by holding down the R key. This brings me to the progress bar and the subsequent grey screen.
I tried to boot into my time machine, by holding down the option key. This gets me to the boot volume selection, I can choose my time machine volume (external FW800 drive), but it does not use this volume to boot (I can hear that the external disk is not spinning). Instead I get the above mentioned behavior (progress bar, grey screen).
I tried to boot into target disk mode by holding down the T key. This only works, when I connect an external USB keyboard. This way I could use another computer to recover my important files (which is good). I could also peek at the logs. It seems as if the failed boot attempts do not produce logs. But I have the system log from the "restart to install update" process. The last few seconds or so I get a lot of these messages:
    Feb  3 14:33:51 Larss-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Refusing new kext com.apple.kpi.libkern, v14.1: already have loaded v14.0.
I use a Macbook Pro 13" early 2011. I don't know the processor speed, because I cannot boot it. I guess it has 8 GB Ram (pretty sure I maxed it out).
I have an SSD installed (I replaced the original HD with a 1GB Samsung SSD). There is another post here, which sounds similar, but I definitely did not use "Trim enabler" or similar third party software.
I use Yosemite, I think I was pretty much up to date, I suspect the reboot was for the 10.10.2 installation, but I am not sure (I simply didn't look when I hit that reboot to install button).
Yosemite on SSD wont boot and wont go in safe or recovery mode
Anyone any ideas? Any help is appreciated!

So I just went through the install.log.
First of all, there I found out that I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010):
    Feb  3 14:31:12 larsmbpro.domain.com suhelperd[336]: GetModel: model = MacBookPro; major rev = 7; minor rev = 1
I think it was indeed the upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.2:

but there was also a firmware update included:

         "PKLeopardPackage <file:///Library/Updates/031-17157/OSXUpd10.10.2Patch.pkg>",
         "PKLeopardPackage <file:///Library/Updates/031-17157/FirmwareUpdate.pkg>"
The last messages in this log are:
    Feb  3 14:33:07 larsmbpro.domain.com Software Update.app[2747]: Running /sbin/reboot
    Feb  3 14:33:07 larsmbpro.domain.com softwareupdated[334]: Removing client SUUpdateServiceClient pid=2747, uid=0, installAuth=YES rights=(system.install.apple-software, system.install.apple-software.standard-user, system.install.software, com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.modify-settings), transactions=1 (/System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/MacOS/Software Update)
According to the system.log, the shutdown happened 14:33:08. The boot time is 14:33:24, no log entries between 14:33:08 and that time. 16 seconds seems awfully long for a reboot:

  • While Recovery  log files are not displayed in recovery mode

    Hi Folks,
These days i am performing backup recovery testing for maxdb.
    Maxdb 7.7
I am having one doubt please help me out to clear that.
    Scenario is like this:
I have taken a  complete Data Backup.
After that some data inserted and one log file created .Some transaction's are in log area (Online Logs) not written to the log file(Offline logs).
When i am performing recovery using recovery mode in that mode it is not showing the log files those are required to be restored at the time of recovery.
    [recovery_mode|http://www.freeuploadimages.org/images/fdsnjrndfbr9ftfnco9.jpg]
After recovery it is showing me the data as it was their before the recovery.
When i am going with recovery with initialization option in that it is showing the logs those will be restored while performing the recovery.
    [recovery_with_initilization|http://www.freeuploadimages.org/images/emupbqyhfunqe9q00yd3.jpg]
After recovery with initialization it  had recovered until it found the data in logs.
My doubt is why in recovery mode it is not showing the log file's those are required to be recovered as it is showing in case of recovery with initialization.
In Recovery mode is it not recovering from the offline log files.....?
If yes than from where it is restoring the data inserted in DB  after the complete backup.
As per my understanding in recovery mode it will perform recovery in the below steps.(Increment backup's i am not taking)
    1.Complete Data Recovery.
2.All the log files will be applied.(Offline logfile)
*3.Log's available in the Log Area will be applied.(Online Log file) *

    Hello Sahil,
please check the documentation and the expert sessions before trying out this stuff.
The reason for MaxDB not asking for any log backups after you've modified a few records is, that we don't throw away the log data when a log backup is made.
Instead we keep track of which log information is still available for recovery in the log area and use this during recovery, instead of trying to get the data from the log backup.
As soon as the log data is lost (because it's overwritten or the log area was deleted as it is the case for a recovery with initialization) MaxDB of course has to ask for the log backups - and it does so.
But really - go and check the documentation and the expert sessions (maybe also my own blogs on this topic) about this.
    regards,
    Lars

  • HT201263 My ipad will not show the recovery mode, it goes into DFU mode just fine, but whenever I put it in recovery mode I get nothing but a blank white screen. After doing a restore or update itunes gives me error 37. This all happened due to a failed u

I updated from ios 5.0.1 to 5.1. Midway through the update itunes crashed. I got it all working again and ever since I have been stuck in a recovery loop. DFU mode works fine, but when I go into recovery mode (yes I am doing it right, yes I have tried pwning, tinyumbrella, etc.) it still just gives me a white screen (I am not getting the plug arrow and itunes icon screen that shows up when you are in recovery mode). I am a huge fan of hacking, mods, and jbs, BUT have never done any on the iPad, (found it pointless).. nevertheless, I am stuck thanks to apple in a white screen and a nonworking iPad. If anyone has any ideas that does not include jbs, updating, restoring, restoring with internet off, restoring in DFU, I would gladly appreciate it. I would take it to the apple store but it was a friends and I didn't purchase it. My friend had the issue formerly and they had no idea what to do at apple (they usually try DFU, restore, and then have nothing else to tell you.

  • TM - External Disk Drive Not Detected in Recovery Mode

    Hello Apple Lovers,
I am using the My Passport for Mac 500GB disk drive with time machine on my MacBook Air to create data backups.
I checked the disk for any corruption using Disk Utility. No issues were found. I find the disk works excellantly in terms of creating backups and restoring them inside time machine.
I cannot detect my external disk for restoring entire images of the OSx in recovery mode. For some reason, TM will not detect my backup disk in the recovery mode. I use the WD Security software on my disk to lock it, however, never before has the security lock posed any problem to me. I used to see a prompt appear for me to unlock the drive in recovery mode on attempting to access the TM backups.
Please take your time in replying to my post. I recovered my entire system last week and restored all the data using TM's twlight view. No rush! I successfully created a backup of my fresh OSx Mavericks on the MacBook Air with all the data restored using TM. I only wanted to troubleshoot this issue in case something occurs in the future that may require me to restore data using TM in recovery mode.
I browsed extensively through many of the discussions covering Time Machine. None mentioned my particular dilemma. Any assistance would be a valuable controbution not only to me, but other Apple users who may purchase My Passport for Mac drives and encounter a similiar problem.

You will need to avoid using third party software if you hope to access the disk and data in recovery mode.
If the WD software encrypts your data recovery mode will need a way to decrypt it. Recovery mode is a 'reduced mode' that only runs Apple software (not third party software) so the WD drivers that decrypt the disk will not be installed & Disk Utility or Migration Assistant will not be able to open the data on the disk.
There have been long threads that make me steer clear of using ANY Western Digital drive software with 10.9.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5475136?start=0&tstart=0
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6202 <- WD had to remove software from Macs because it ruined peoples data on 10.9.
There are other threads on WD disk tools causing errors on 10.9, external hard disks do not require the use of additional software on OS X - these apps & drivers are mostly junk that is not a good idea to install.
If you really want to protect your data with encryption the features are already built in to OS X, it's called Filevault. It will encrypt your internal HD & your Time Machine backups (when the OS is encrypted). It works with Apple tools & doesn't rely on any third party drivers.
You will need to disable the 'WD security lock' and make sure the disk works without the WD software if you hope to have any chance of reading it in recovery mode.

  • Itunes will not open in recovery mode

My ipad was corrupted and froze so I tried to use recovery mode to restore. However, iTunes does not open after connecting ipad to PC. • Old iPod Will not leave disk recovery mode; wont register on comp

    Hey,
I have my old, black-n-white, 15gb scrollwheel iPod. A few days ago, the folder icon popped up. I followed Apples troubleshooting and reset the iPod to disk recovery mode. Now the only thing is that it is stuck in "Disk Mode -- OK to disconnect." and nothing i can click press will exit that screen, not even trying to reset again. Note, the hold button icon still properly shows up on the screen when it is switched.
To make matters worse, when I try connecting my iPod to my computer, it will not get recognized by the comp, and makes my iTunes freeze and I am forced to close it.
So, what is up? did my iPod die? i just dont want to buy a new one. =(

Hold down the PLAY and MENU buttons to get it out of disk mode. Wait until you see the Apple logo on the screen. It may take as long as 10 to 20 seconds before it happens.

New iPad2 will not sync photos or music

    Hello,

  • IPhone 5 Will Not Restore in Recovery Mode

    Hi everyone,
I am currently having a pretty serious problem with my iPhone 5 16GB (iOS7.0.2). Today, I discovered that my phone was "searching" for cell service despite being in an area with good coverage. This issue continued for 5 hours. I tried to turn it on/off, a hard reset, turning "airplane mode" on/off, and even tried to restore it! When I attempted to restore it however, iTunes told me that "Find my iPhone" had to be turned off. Then, I kept getting an error that there was a problem deregistering it from my iCloud account. Finally, I decided (after creating a full backup) to put the phone into recover mode and try to restore it that way. Not only, did I get an "error (1)", I attempted that FIVE times and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. Hopefully, I can get it fixed or else I'll have to replace the thing.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
P.S. I might add that oddly, the phone still receives calls; my wife tried calling the phone, and it not only rings, it even goes to voicemail...

    Hey there Lorenzo Carunun,
It sounds like you are unable to restore your device with iTunes at all. You did some great troubleshooting to start with. I would recommend the steps in this article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting update and restore issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Verify that your computer operating system is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after restarting.
On a Mac: In the Apple () menu, choose Software Update. Install all available updates.
On a Windows PC: Go to the Microsoft Windows Update page.
Check your security software: Note: Most restore issues are caused by out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software, firewalls, and network router settings or firmware.
Isolate the issue to third-party software.
    Update security software.
    Properly configure your security software.
Temporarily disable or uninstall your security software.
Temporarily remove any unnecessary USB devices, leaving only your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the USB cable that came with your device, and a keyboard and mouse, if necessary.
Restart your computer and try again.
Note: To perform some of these steps, you need to be logged in to the computer as an administrator. If you are not sure if you have administrator access, contact the owner of the computer or the system administrator.
You may have done a step or 2 already, so feel free to skip those steps you have done.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

Not sure whether your question being struck through means that you've found the answer or not, but if not then the Settings > iBooks options don't sync items between devices, it only keeps what you already have on both devices in-line with each other - you will need to sync the PDFs to the other device yourself (even though they aren't iTunes purchases you should be able to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases)
