IPad2 resetting dropping internet service to router

Hello,
I have been working on this issue for many months now and just can't figure it out...
Several times during the day my wireless router loses the internet connection.  All of the devices attached to it then have to go through a series of steps to reconnect.  This is pretty annoying especially if you are watching movies.  The following devices are connected: Roku x 2, Wii, ipad, Gateway desktop, HP laptop, and a magicjack.
I used to have ATT service but not have Time Warner Cable.  I went through three different wireless gateways with ATT and eventually came to the conclusion it was their service causing the disruption.  Now I have switched to TW with an entirely new modem and still having the same problem.  Last night, I started disconnected all of the devices one at a time and finally concluded that the ipad is causing the issue.
When the ipad first wakes up, it shows it is connected to the gateway but it will not access the internet.  Restarting does nothing and the only thing that will get it to function is turning Wifi off and on.  Once this happens, there will be connectivity but then I all of the Rokus have to be reset as well.  In addition, this will only last for about ten minutes before some issue causes everything to drop again.  At this point I have to continually reset the Rokus to get them to work.
I will have the same problems with the two computers as they will lose connection to the internet and then reset themselves after a few minutes.
If there are any ideas someone can throw my way to help figure this out that would be great!

Actually please disregard this...
The internet has been really uncooperative today so I have been disconnecting every device I can find.  Everything has been disconnected from the gateway and I even tried testing with two different devices.  Still having the same problem when the iPad has been off for an hour.
The only thing I can guess now is that there is some sort of outside interferrence especially since this is two companies and four wireless gateways later.
No idea how to find out what the interferrence is...

  • Dropping internet service over and over?

I have a cable modem (with turbo upgrade) hooked to an airport extreme, with two airport expresses in the house set to extend the network.
It's worked great for months, maybe a year, but over the last couple of weeks I've been losing my internet access in 1-2 minute spurts, several times an hour. The airport signal strength on my notebook stays the same, all the lights on the 3 airports stay green, but there it is.
I installed iStumbler, but I can't figure out how to read it really. Everything was on channel 3, and I saw that a neighbor is using 6 so I changed mine to 1. When it was on three it would change to 0 every now and then as I watched.
So, any idea what would make the connection fail like that?
And any tips on reading iStumbler? What should my sample rate be? It's at 245. My signal is around 50% and my noise is almost always at 0%.

Well, it was a hardware problem. I have two airport expresses in addition to the airport extreme I was using as a base. So I unhooked the extreme and set up one of the expresses as the base in the WDS network. (i only do the WDS so I can connect my xbox to the other express via ethernet.) voila. Problem solved. No dropped connection.
That airport express was a little over a year old. That's pathetic. But I guess it explains why no one from apple is commenting on any of these threads about the problem. There's nothing they can do.

  • WiFi only works close to router, DNS fail, Signal Bars present but Safari says no Internet, I've deleted and readded through to reset and full reset, I had no problem with 4.3.2 only 4.3.3 both my iPhone4 and my iPad2. I am now beside router - no problem

    Help
WiFi only works close to router, DNS fail, Signal Bars present but Safari says no Internet, I've deleted and re-added through to reset and full reset, I had no problem with 4.3.2 only 4.3.3 both my iPhone4 and my iPad2. I am now beside router - no problem, but go 20 metres and WiFi becomes unstable. Only way to get either to work is disable WiFi either as a Hot Spot or turn it off and use the 3G connection. This worked with 4.3 & 4.3.2 what has gone wrong? I raised it at the Apple Store in Belfast as a problem but was told that there was no problem with Apple but I must have a faulty router - yeah - that's a lot of faulty routers, my home, my office, my holiday home, Starbucks, my friends house, my son's house. I've tried all the 'fixes'. I think it is a plan to force us to buy Apple Routers

Two ways out, I added two more Belkin Access Points in my house in Spain so that I'm not more than 10Mtrs away, (Reinforced Concrete & solar glass 2010)
I bought 3 Apple Airports, 1 x Extreme and 2 x Express (1 as a hard wired AP, 1 as an extender) for my other house (Brick construction 1930's)
Everthing now works perfectly, as I said 'an apple plot', so either blast them with signal or visit your nearest apple store.
Early beta iOS5 (iPad) is also much inproved in Beta 3, I have not had any problem with 'Lion'
    Happy hunting!

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • I have a Airport Extreme that is dropping the wireless signal alot (several times a day). The green light will go amber but the internet service (ethernet cable) will still be fine. The wireless icon on devices with go away.

I have a Airport Extreme that is dropping the wireless signal alot (several times a day) The green light will go amber, but the internet service is still ok if your using an ethernet cable directly plugged in. When the light goes amber all devices that is using wireless will lose there wireless icon. The only way to get the green light back is to unplug the Airport device and replug it back in. I tried the reset on the back but still no luck. What is the fix?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • Best wireless modem/router for Comcast internet service?

    Hello!
I am looking to switch internet service from Verizon DSL to Comcast. I have a MacBook Pro using Airport Extreme (supports 802.11 a/b/g/n), and my other computer is an iMac (OS 10.5.8, iMac 6,1), with a printer and a Roku box (I'm also thinking about switching to Apple TV). All are currently set-up wirelessly with a combined modem/router.
I know that there is a list of a bunch of potentials on the Comcast website, but I'm looking for real experience from Mac users. Good, bad or neutral comments are appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Ken

Don't pay Comcast monthly for a router. Buy a router. A router is a router, the best routers are Cisco based rackmount devices. Honestly the AirPort Express and Extreme are amazing and work quite well with Apple products. Plus if you purchase one and get AppleCare on it you get AWESOME support from your friendly AppleCare advisors... sure as **** beats going to India and talking to Fred.

  • About fios internet and my router and availbility of service

Hi, I am here because I am extremely concerned about the availability of fios internet at my area, I am at California, Rowland Heights area. Cable sucks here, and I need a reliable service for my needs, are there any news of when will the fios internet become available at my area?
Another is that, because I have my own router, its a D-LINK DI655, fairly expensive gaming router, will I be able to use it still if I get fios internet service? I bought it thinking that might fix some of the problem that I have now with the cable internet( which it helped a bit but main problem is still at cable's backbone line under the street).

I'm not with Verizon so I can't tell you when FIOS will be available but you can certainly use your own router.  When FIOS is installed you must tell them you want the Internet connection terminated as a CAT 5 connection.  Otherwise they will use your existing COAX connection and the Internet connection will be COAX, similar to how most Cable Company Services are provided.  Verizon will then install their own router which will accept the COAX connection.  (The Verizon router can accept a Cat5 cable Internet connection too.)
There is one thing to know however about using your own router.  If you decide to get the TV service from FIOS you will need to use the FIOS router (or buy a MOCA device).  The FIOS set top boxes require an internet connection to download the channel guide and to get video on demand.  There are FAQ's either here on these forums or on DSLreports.com that discuss how to use your existing router on the FIOS service with TV.
    Hope this helps.

  • Reseting internet service account

Hi, I'm Jamil, i'm using blackberry curve 8900. Have purchased this phone almost new (used for around two weeks). I've been using it for around 3 month and cannot access blackberry internet service. The reason is that previous owner has already openned an account and I do not have the username and password. Is there any way to reset said account so I can create mine?
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You have troubles ahead, I am afraid. See this matrix for the steps that must be conducted by buyer and seller:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05099&slic...
The seller must conduct the seller steps. If you cannot reach that person, then you will have to try and convince the prior owners carrier to release the PIN from the BIS account so that your carrier can create a BIS account for you. It will be difficult...most carriers will not do this without release from that prior owner (since they must suspect the device to be stolen rather than sold). But I've heard some lucky stories. I hope you become one of them.
    Good luck!

  • RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router.

RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router. The customer had upgrade to a 20 meg cable internet service from a 10 meg service.   The customer is only able to get the 20 meg service going from cable modem to PC.  If he goes thru the RV042 router, he is only getting up to 10.7 down and 1.37 up.  Additional steps taken….He had a Linksys SRW224P switch connected to the RV042 router and we had disconnected this switch for testing purposes.   We performed the speed test again and we get the same speed results so we know the switch is not the issue. He had upgraded to firmware version 1.3.12.19 – TM Feb 13, 2009 – tested speed and no change. We accessed the web management interface and tried several modifications.   This includes the following…..-       We disabled the firewall – no change-       We disabled SPI with is the Stateful Packet Inspection (I was thinking this one would do it) – no change in speed.-       We disabled DoS (Deny of Service) – no change.-       We set MTU to Manual and tested various byte increments based on MTU ping testing. – Once again, no change in speed.  He is NOT using Load balancing on the routerHe has NO access rules but does have a few port forwards. Finally, with each change, he is saving the changes on the router.

You are expecting 20MB throughput on a $150 router?  Well, ok, maybe.. Can you check on your router or switch if the port is set or auto negotiated to 10 or 100?  That could explain 10MB limit (although technically a 10Mb port is considered 20Mb theoretical max throughput as 100Mb port is considered 200Mb per Cisco).  So maybe you ended up with 10/half somehow?  MTU 1500 would also be good for that connection I think and to try to get max throughput.

  • AEBS Dropping Internet Connection q 45 minutes

I have the new airport extreme base station. I bought it January and it has worked flawlessly for the past 6 months. recently, in the past week or so, I began getting a dropped internet connection happening every 45 minutes or so.
    About my set up:
Cable modem supplying connection to AEBS via ethernet. VOIP box connected to AEBS via ethernet getting internet connection from AEBS. Playstation 3 connected via ethernet to AEBS. Airport Express base station linked to airport extreme base station wirelessly (of course) to share printer connection via USB. iBook G4 1.2ghz running Mac OSX 10.4.9
    Trouble Shooting.
Originally I would unplug the cable modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in. This would reset the connection and i would have service again for 45 minutes. I decided to test whether or not it was the router or modem that was kicking me so I unplugged the ethernet cable coming from the modem to the AEBS and plugged it directly into my computer and turned off my airport connection, essentially hardwiring the ibook directly to the modem. I got kicked off again. At this point i drew the conclusion that it was the modem and contacted my cable company. After a bunch phone conversations that essentially accomplished nothing, they sent a tech out to my house. He replaced my old (3 years) cable with a brand new one to test out. I left my computer wired directly via ethernet to the new modem and this time DID NOT receive any drops in connection over a period of 4 hours. I reconnected the ethernet cable from the modem to the AEBS and reset my connection and decided to test out wireless. It dropped me again in 45 minutes. I left the cable modem connected to the AEBS via ethernet and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of the AEBS that gos to my VOIP box and plugged my computer into the AEBS via ethernet and disconnected from airport on my computer. I was again dropped in 45 minutes. I reset my modem and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of AEBS that gos to my Playstation 3. Again I was dropped within 45 minutes. After that, I reconnected both the PS3 and VOIP box ethernet cables and unplugged my computers ethernet cable from the AEBS and have just been using the wireless connection and resetting the modem every 45 minutes when it drops. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that I plugged the Playstation 3 directly into the cable modem via ethernet and played online for 4 hours without interruption/disconnect. Anyways, I am back to square one. I believe based on the evidence above that the problem lies within the Airport Extreme base station router some how, but I have no idea what the problem is.
What happens when my connection is dropped:
I can be doing anything from using an instant messaging service to trying to load a web page using firefox or safari. Basically the page fails to load, i get a message saying it can't find the server. Usually at this point I will open up network utility and try to ping yahoo.com. It doesn't ping and says it can't find the server. I go to the modem and unplug the power for 30 seconds and replug it back in. As soon as everything back up I have my connection back.
    What the cable company did:
They looked at their connections, including the fiber optic node for the area. They did not find any outages or problems within their system. They plugged my coxial cable into a modem/tester box (not sure exactly what it was) to evaluate signal received via coxial cable which they said was working properly. they checked my cable connection from house to street and didn't find any compromises in the wire/cable.
I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware for my AEBS. I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?
    ibook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I had the same problem earlier this year with my cable carrier. At first I thought it was the modem so I replaced the Dlink with an Apple Extreme and it still kept happening. After some research on MacInTouch I found that using an earlier version of the base station software made the problem go away. So I never updated and all was well with the world. Till last week and now like you I am dropping connections every hour or so no matter what application I am running or what site I am on the internet.
A friendly tech admitted to me that there was a problem with the way the modem communicates with the provider and that they were aware of the problem but that there was nothing he could do to help me.
That is when I cured the problem temporarily by using the base station software from 2004. If I find an answer to the return of the problem I will post it. Please let me know if you find a solution.

  • Dropped internet connection

I had connection problems with my wrt54g2 v1 router. If I connected from the modem directly to the computer I had instant connection. I tried switching cables between modem & router & computer but couldn't get connection. So I bought  a new E1200 router and swapped out the old one. Connections were good for 2 days, but now I'm having the same problem. I turn on the computer and I have no internet connection. I run the Cisco Connect but it doesn,t connect. As long as I bypass the router,
I have a good connection, but I need the router for wireless devices in the house...
    Any suggestions????

Hey Jacksweeley! How's your wireless connection? Does it drop along with the router's wired connection? Better upgrade the router's firmware then reset and reconfigure the settings. I do the manual configuration instead of running the setup software, I suggest you do the same thing too.
    Here are the steps:
    1. Press the Reset button for 30 seconds while the router is powered on. Then unplug the router from power for 1 minute afterwards.
    2. Connect the router to the modem and connect the main computer to the router's port 1.
    3. Open a browser and type or http://192.168.1.1 on the Address bar. Leave the Username blank and type 'admin' for the Password.
    4. Go to MAC Address Clone sub tab, enable it and click Clone My PC's MAC, and hit Save Settings.
    5. Configure the wireless settings and secure the wireless network with a WPA/WPA2 Mixed security.
    Hope this helps!

  • I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook. Constantly dropping internet connection or message "error connecting to the network" comes up. No wireless connectivity issues with windows 7 laptop or iphone.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The last few weeks it has been constantly dropping internet connection, and one of these messages appear on the page: "Safari cannot open this page because the server where this page is located isn't responding" or "Safari cannot open this page because you are not connected to the internet" comes up. I will check Wifi and I am connected. No wifi connectivity issues with iphone or windows 7 laptop, this doesn't happen with either of those devices. I have unplugged and reset router, cleared cache, still happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm on a DD-WRT wireless internet service. Could this be causing my iMac to act weird ?

I'm on a DD-WRT wireless internet service. Could this network be causing my iMac to act weird ?

From reading this site and others, looks as if there could be thousands of possiblities/remedies.
I agree. Aside from the very remote possibility that running Java for that "trusted" website allowed some kind of infection--and if it was some kind of exploit, I doubt it would manifest itself in any way you'd notice--there are just too many different things going on for me to give any help.
Why were you thinking it was the router/DD-WRT? What if you connect directly by Ethernet?
    Some generic thrings to try.
See if a Safe Boot helps. Shift at the startup chime and give it much longer to boot than normal. Don't open anything, leave it a minute or two and then restart normally.
    SMC reset

You could try the shotgun approach and reinstall, but first you must be certain to have a completely reliable backup, in case you need to restore.

  • How do I get rid of an internet service provider (Cisco) that I never wanted but Cisco keeps me from getting online with my own internet service provider?

I have tried to get rid of an internet service provider named "Cisco" that keeps blocking me from getting on the internet. I have no idea how "Cisco" is doing this. I have only one internet service provider that is Not "Cisco" . "Cisco" keeps coming up on the screen to sign in with a password which of course I do not know and do not want. I went into Safari preference to change the settings and found 2 that I do not want.  I thought I had gotten rid of this "link sys" but keeps returning  and shows that it is locked. How do I get rid of these in my Safari preferences without a password to them. I only want the one internet service provider that I have to be there and not the other two. Thank you so much.

That is the login into the router itself. Most routers, in order to set them up the first time or after a reset or power fail, have this login procedure. You connect to the router login and configure the settings for your use.
Is this a new router or has it been recently reset in some way? As was written above if the router was provided by your isp then contact them for the setup procedures.
If the router is yours (or someone else's in your household) you need to look at the manual that came with it or go to manufactures website for instructions on how to set it up.

  • Problem with Dropped Internet Connections on AE/Macbook

I have a dual band Airport Extreme connected to Comcast Cable. I use a first generation Macbook to access the airport. The problem is that I keep on getting dropped Internet connections. The signal strength is shown at the top rhs of the screen as being full strength (4 bars).
If I swap out the router for a Linksys WRT54G, running DD-WRT, the combination works perfectly without any dropped Internet connections. Also, If I connect the Linksys to the AE with the Linksys acting as a wireless client repeating the signal, then I can connect the Macbook to the Linksys again without any dropped internet connections.
There is something about the Macbook connecting directly to the AE. It happens intemittantly but probably multiple times a day and is very inconvenient. The only way to get it back is to reboot the router or stop/start the aiport on the Macbook.
I have tried just about every possible setup on the AE including splitting the 2.4 and 5Ghz radios into two separate ssid's and changing the channels. I am using the latest AE firmware. I have also taken the AE back to the Apple store and they have swapped it for a new one.
I dont get the same issues with my windows clients or my ipad (although i have experienced issues while steaming video - but I think that may be a different issue).
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Use the advice in this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that the Mac sees:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2347845&start=1
What you may see if an increase in noise when the connection drops.
If that doesn't show anything useful, it might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
