IPad2 stopped rotating; screen is NOT locked

iPad 2 recently stopped rotating, it is now stuck in portrait. The screen rotation is definitely not locked, have checked both the physical switch and the settings.
Restarting the iPad and restoring original settings did not do anything.
Apps which are natively in landscape mode still open up and work fine - in fact, all apps still work, but the ones that could rotate before can't rotate now. It's not an app problem as the home screen will not rotate and it is not specific to one app.
One thing I have noticed with the smart cover is that it would rub against the screen when in my bag and you could hear the clicks as the iPad constantly locked and unlocked when it started rubbing. I've read some speculation that the magnets could be affecting the accelerometer... I have bought a new cover that doesn't rub like this even though it also has magnets and the capability to lock/unlock like the smart cover.

I am also having the same problem even though nothing is locked. I do not now know what to do to get it working. I have taken the smart cover off, turned off my ipad2 but still not working.

  • Facetime keeps rotating screen when not moving, restart not helps

I am using ipad2, OS 4.3.1. facetime keeps rotating screen when not moving, and I restart ipad2 but it does not help. Is this due to earlier version of OS or it's a bug of facetime?

It is odd that your screen will only rotate without you touching your iPad, during a factime call.  In all the factime calls I've made, I've never had my screen rotate if I wasn't touching my unit.  I will say that the gyro on both my iPads is pretty sensitive and I've found it quite easy to get the screen to rotate with a simple movement of my iPad.
The only other suggestion I have is one that will take more effort and work and still, it may not solve your problem.  It is one Apple will request you do, before making an appointment with the Genius bar, so you might as well do this.
You should back up your iPad, then restore your iPad from the backup.  If that does not solve the problem, the last option is to do a full restore of your iPad as a new unit.  Then, you'll sync over the content you want from Apps, to music, to pictures, etc.  Again, before you do either a restore from backup, do back it up.
If all that doesn't solve your problem, make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple store.  If they find you have a deffective unit, they will replace it.
I hope you get this resolved.

  • I have problem with my iphone 5 when I talk my ear allways tuch the screen and get it on no sound, the screen are not lock, is that possible

I have problem with my Iphone 5, when I talk my ear allways tuch the screen and get it on no sound, the screen are not lock, is ti possible to lock the screen when incomming an outgoing call going on

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • My iphone 5s screen does not lock whilst a call is in progress

My iphone 5s has probs whilst calling the screen doesnt lock
Is this proximity sensor or a setting?

The iPhone screen shouldn't necessarily lock while you are in the phone call, it should however go to sleep while you have it up against your ear.  Is that what you mean?
If this is what you mean and you think that there is an issue with the proximity sensor I would recommend playing a voicemail on your phone and instead of holding it up to your ear, putting your finger over the upper speaker.  If the screen does not darken then there could very well be something wrong with it.
Make sure first however that the area is cleaned and uncovered, just to be sure.

  • My ipad will not rotate and its not locked

I don't understand.  it is not locked, and I have reset it, turned it off and on multiple times, and it still will not go into landscape mode.  I have had nothing but trouble with the ipad experience.  and it's brand new.  Apple just gave me a new replacement for the one I bought in September...I went to settings made sure rotate lock was not checked.  no lock icon in upper right corner...NOT locked...had it plugged into itunes on my mac, and went to reset AGAIN, and it went into recovery mode..so maybe when it comes ot of its coma, it will work right!  Help..suggestions welcome!

  • Gnome 3.2 suspend with status menu: screen is not locked after wakeup

Locking the screen with gnome-screensaver-command --lock or with the lock screen option from the status menu works fine.
However, when the suspend from the status menu is used, although it does seem to go into lock mode before it suspends (the screen goes black and there is a little lock icon in to top corner), it never asks for a password after it wakes up. This happens on both my laptops with gnome3 by the way.
The wiki article https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gn … ter_resume tells me to use
    # gsettings set org.gnome.power-manager lock-use-screensaver 'false'
But that key doesn't exist in gnome 3.2.
    Any ideas ?

In the meantime I found the following:
    - When I suspend with the power button, the screen is locked, but not when I use the status menu option
    - This seems to be related to the screen setting 'Lock screen after'. I had it set to 1 minutes. When I change it to 'after the screen goes blank' the
      problem doesn't seem to occur.
So, the way it looks now, it uses the same settings for delaying the locking the screen after the screensaver kicks in when locking the screen before suspend.
Which doesn't make much sense. And then the behaviour is still inconsistent with the power button suspend.

  • My iPad screen won't rotate it isn't locked either.

It isn't locked on the Side or in settings. Help!

This applies to system sounds and to the screen rotation lock. It is either set via the side switch or in the task bar.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

If the screen is not locked and you are sure that you have checked this - reset the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider.

  • The view won't rotate unless I put it to sleep and then wake it up in the new orientation.  rotation is not locked.

The view on my I-pad won't rotate.  I know its not locked.  started yesterday.  I-Pad is only 2 weeks old.  what coul it be?

You are absolutely sure the screen is not locked? You do not see the lock icon in the upper right part of the screen next to the battery percentage indicator? If the lock icon is there - the screen is locked.
Restart your iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. Then hold the sleep button until then Apple logo appears and let go of the button to restart. See if the screen will rotate now.
If that doesn't do it try a reset - hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.

  • Screen not locking

When I am on a call the phone touching my cheek puts the phone on speaker or on hold, the screen does not lock.

Is this with or without your case? Try it without the case, if it still doesn't work you will probably need to get it serviced.

  • The screen could not rotate automatically while without lock it, how to solve this problem?

The screen could not rotate automatically while without lock it, how to solve this problem?

If there isn't a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator then try a soft-reset and see if it rotates after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • New iPhone, screen won't rotate NOT LOCKED

My dad just bought the iPhone 5 literally 20 minutes ago. The orientation of his screen is stuck on landscape and will not change.
1- The screen settings is NOT locked. Again it is unlocked
2- we have already tried holding down the power button and home key at once
We've tried everything and its getting very frustrating. Please help

You say the screen settings are not locked. I know they will not lock like that, however have you tried toggling the lock on and back off again?
You say that you tried holding down the power key and the home key at once, called a reset. Did the phone screen go dark, then the Apple logo come up and then the phone restart? Did you only do this the one time?
If these things are not working, since you say you just purchased it, I would return the device, as something appears to be wrong with the gyro, since you cannot get it to correct out of landscape mode.
