IPad2 Version 5.1.1 & new security patch

I have an Ipad 2 with version 5.,1.1 that I have never updated. I have updated my Iphone to i0S 7 system ND i HATE IT! soI do not want to update my Ipad. I know it limits me in some ways but the new upgrade on my iphone has me wanting to now no longer have an iphone I dislike it so much. If I could revert it back I certainly would.
For my Ipad 2 then with my current 5.1.1 version....I want to know:
-since I am using 5.1.1 do I still need to add the patch? or am I ok security wise or not?
-if I add the patch will it automatically update my Ipad to i0S 7?
-do I have a choice here & still can remain secure?
Also...I have a personal hotspot that I use if I am in public places.

Your choices are to keep it at 5.1.1 and take the risk or update it to iOS7 and get the patch
Any device that is eligible for iOS7 will be updated to iOS7 and the only devices that can get the iOS6 patch are the iTouch 4 and iPhone 3.
Ultimately it's your choice, security risk or update your iOS

just read a new article on yahoo news, urging folks with iphones, ipads and the itouch, to update the latest patch for a newly discovered security vulnerability.
The article gave instructions on how to update ios 6.1.3 on the iphone but those instructions don't work for me because my iphone 4s only shows the update to upgrade to ios7 and I do not want to do that.
is there a way to get rid of the prompt to upgrade to 7? And is there a way to update ios 6.1.3 and get the security patch?

Other software updates also include security aspects such as patching hoe, where arbitary code can be executed i.e. in iChat/Bluetooth both of which made fairly big news in the blogs this year.

After some deeper research I found this security report. It would seem 10.4.7 patched 5 security flaws. I would guess they don't exist in 10.3.9 or below.
iTunes 6.0.5 also patched a issue where arbitary code could be executed through an AAC file.
Nothing to worry about here... The news about it came out after the security patch.
Most of the hype will be from Apple bashers wanting to prove OS X isn't as good as it's made out (it's a darn sight better than Windoze in all most all respects) and Security companies (like Symantec) wanting Mac users to start spending out cash on Security Software. Personally I'll take a serious interest once a security announcement comes a long time before Apple patches it!!!!

Installed new security patch problem

Yesterday installed the latest OSX 10.5.8 security patch and now all incoming mail is being rejected with 550 - no such user, etc. Erased users and re-entered them still no joy. Any help/ideas appreciated. Bruce

Link to 3.01 Beta with Security Patch?

I'm looking for a link to Safari version 3.01 Beta with Security Patch. Executable is dated 12/20/2007.
The new version 3.1 and WIPs all have a strange font problem, where it looks like they render the fonts twice. I didn't have this problem with 3.01 Beta with Security Patch and I would like to revert.
Update: The 3.1 version that just came out is also very slow. If I scroll a page to scan it, it's as slow as Firefox now. I can't believe they killed my favorite browser.
I sent many bug reports and posted here to no avail. 100% ignored. I guess I'll go back to Firefox.

I've completed the new security download routine 3 times, and Firefox keeps telling me I need to download again.

I've downloaded the new security patch 3 times in the last couple of weeks, put it in my applications and from there onto the dashboard, and Firefox keeps telling me that I need to download it again. This is crazy... Firefox can't recognize it's own application???

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Your system is missing a couple DLLs that LR needs, but the fix at Adobe is to copy them to the LR folder which gets replaced for each install, so you have to redo it after each LR install. It would be worth documenting the process and saving the DLLs so you don’t have to ask about it each time:

You might also use the AIO210 program to add them as detailed in this YouTube video—maybe this is a more permanent fix, but since the files are from media-fire be very careful about what you do so as not to install a virus on your computer.
I’d scan the downloaded ZIP you download with whatever virus and internet security software you have and don’t be fooled by extraneous popups you might see during the download process. I was able to download the aio210.zip after authorizing one Captcha window and closed at least one bogus popup trying to get me to install other software. If I create a database AFTEr applying the opatch for the October 2009 security patch, do I need to also run:
@catbundle.sql cpu apply
Or is it included in the create database? I use the DBCA to create new databases.

This should be documented in the patch's README as the answer will vary with each patch.
If the patch's README is not documented, then the Post Install tasks should be run.
And this is what the OCTCPU09 README says:

Hope that helps.Point taken that it could vary by patchset, but those particular instructions quoted square exactly with what I had said. To quote with emphasis:
"You must execute the steps . . . for any new database *only if* it was created by any of the following methods . . ."
And what are those methods? Creating the database from a sample (pre-patch) database. If one uses dbca to create a 'custom' database, the resulting scripts will start from scratch with a CREATE DATABASE command - no pre-patch version sample or seed database involved.

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Update problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions
Reboot.
Also, Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC)...

Hi, I need to apply some security patches for a WebLogic 8.1 SP2 environment. But I don't know if BEA supports the PeopleSoft WLS version or PeopleSoft release its own security patches.
Someone knows about this?

BEA has provided several security advisory patch sets to PeopleSoft, which they apparently test in their labs and then redistribute to PeopleSoft users. It is difficult for me to determine whether the patch you are referring to contains all of the BEA security releases for WLS 8.1 SP2.
I recommend that you contact PeopleSoft and ask for their advice. If possible, I would also recommend that you consider upgrading your WLS version instead of applying a temporary patch, subject to the limitations of what PeopleSoft will support.
My final bit of advice would be to make sure your vendor (PeopleSoft) has tested any patch before you apply it to a production system.

After security patch 03/04/2014 OSX 10.7.5, first one, then a second, external backup drive no longer recognized. Diagnostics for the FireWire one displays brand name of unit, but Time Machine and its own app don't see it. Where do I start?

Yesterday I installed the security patch, OSX 10.7.5 to my IMac that is about 2 years old.
Today my Seagate BackupPlus for Mac will power on but is not recognized. It does not show up as a device, Time Machine says the latest backup was DELAYED, last successful at 03/04/2014 9:35 PM (yesterday) and next backup would begin when the disk was connected. An error message I did not save said basically the drive was not recognized.   I did all drive's troubleshooting steps, including installing a newer version of their app. I tried swapping USB for FireWire, changing electrical outlets, etc.
It seems a bit coincidental to have 2 drives "fail" simultaneously. Is anyone else having this issue after this security patch? What would be the approach from the Mac side? TIA for any assistance.
Please see below regarding the second drive. Is this a red herring, or does it help pinpoint where the failure might lie?
I also have a Seagate GoFlex that WAS recognized until I did the troubleshooting on the other drive. When I put it back on after testing the other drive with FireWire, it now is no longer recognized.

Thirdly, in after one of the testing/reboot loops, the HP WiFi printer was no longer recognized, but after a few more it came back.

I have a similar problem.
Moreover, as my external drive is split in 2 for (a) regular storage // (b) time machine usage, I can see in the Finder that I can connect to the (a) regular storage part and use it normally (image 1).
And I cannot connect to the backup part in Finder , nor see it in Disk Utility, nor use it in Time Machine (although it's listed in the Time Machine preferences, image 2), as it does not connect (image 3).
Can somebody help?

Most of the patches in this upgrade are database patches (which should be applied using opatch). The main upgrade patch (Patch 6810189 - 10.2.0.4 patch set) should be applied using Oracle Universal Installer (runInstaller).
Always follow the steps in the patch README file before applying any patch.
