Ipad2 wifi issues: A fix I found and it works

Have been completely frustrated about this. Wifi dropping every other minute. Some suggested it's IOS software.  Some say we should change the router setting.  But only a portion of iPad users are affected, which means it's not software or at least hardware is partly responsible.  And we can't change the router setting at public places, can't we now?  I'm convinced that it's hardware and that there could be discrepancy in wireless card parts supply.  But the cause isn't important anymore.  Let's find the fix:
So I removed the magic cover or whatever you're using that has a magnetic attachment to the device.  My wifi hasn't had any problem since.  I think it's the interference of the magnetic field to the wireless card inside the unit.
I hope it works for everyone out there because I know how frustrating it could get.

  • No one goes home tonight until the WiFi issue is fixed

I wouldn't let anyone go home tonight at Apple until this WiFi problem has been licked. Let's see some action here folks.
Anyone having any luck with the Genuis bar besides being given a new iPad with the same issues as old?

    Graham,
If that's true, then wouldn't the issue be fixed if we turned off N and made the router G only? I've done that and still have the same issue.
Wouldn't I have the same tendencies using a different computer? I have a PC desktop, two PC laptops, a Macbook... heck, even my Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP Go don't have issues talking to the router.
I've tried every trick that I can find on these forums or think of myself. None of them fix my particular problem (wi-fi goes into standby mode and will not re-connect until I turn it off and on). I've tried it at multiple locations, one of which only had a B&G router.
I'm not getting on your case, Graham... but it's not an issue with the routers.
    Here's all that I've tried:
    1. Changed router from B&G&N to G only.
    2. Changed each of the router's security settings (unprotected, WPA, WEP).
    3. Changed the router's channel from 11 to others.
    4. Changed the iPad from DHCP to static IP.
    5. Sat right next to the router.
    6. Changed the brightness to the maximum.
    7. Checked the router and all other devices for a possible IP address conflict.
    8. Had the iPad switched at the Genius Bar for another device.
    9. Reset the iPad networking using the iPad.
    10. Reset the iPad to factory defaults using the iPad.
    11. Reset the iPad to factory defaults using iTunes.
    12. Tried to wake the iPad up using only the top button instead of the Home button.
    13. Changed the proxy from NONE to AUTO.
    14. Tried at two locations with two different brands of routers.
The only thing that gets it to talk on the wi-fi again is to turn it all the way off and back on. Once it goes into some kind of standby mode, it will not come back. The Genius Bar couldn't tell me anything I haven't tried. So please tell me what else I can do.

  • Ipad2 wifi issue - with diagnostic info

Just received my new iPad 2 straight from Apple last night. Came with 4.3.5 preinstalled. Was tearing my hair out over connectivity issues until I found that turning off the WEP or WPA or WPA2 - i.e. turn off all security - "fixes" it.
So tonight I spent some time trying things with the iPad 2 and a monitor on the router.
If ANY type of security is turned on, then the router sees the iPad 2 connect, but shows it as having the IP of "0.0.0.0". If I try to enter a static IP, this makes no change at the router, and there is no obvious change at the iPad 2. If instead I try to use DHCP, then the iPad 2 initially shows nothing. If I renew lease I then show an IP of "169.254.176.38" and a subnet mask of "255.255.255.0", although the router still sees it as 0.0.0.0.
Once I turn off security, then DHCP works. HOWEVER, if I try to setup a Static IP it STILL does DHCP as evidenced by the fact that disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad gets an IP address that is NOT the one I have put in with the Static IP.
Since it works without dropping with security turned off, I doubt this is a hardware issue. I am wondering if "fixing" certificates in 4.3.5 broke something else?

I have three different routers by three different manufacturers (TrendNet, Linksys, and Cradlepoint) that are all showing the same behavior. So I find it a little hard to believe that the iPad is fine, and all three of these (which work fine with my iPad 1, a couple of iPhones, and a couple desktop computers) somehow are broken?
Oh, and all three are on their latest firmware.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Yet another Macbook wifi issue. looses connection when uploading and downld

I've been having issues with wifi on my Macbook since I bought it. I've finally narrowed down the issue.
If I'm doing two things at once, the macbook loses connection. For example, if I'm uploading a large file to my server, say 500mb and I try to download a file off the internet at the same time, the connection breaks. It still shows I have a full connection but I can no longer brows the internet and the upload to my server fails.
Anyone else find this to be the case?

I've had an original MBair and a 2011 air on wireless without issues.  Look at System Preferences > Network > Wi-fi > Advanced.. button > Wi-Fi tab >  Clean out the network list to just the ones you use and drag them to the top.  Look for other setting that may have changed from the default in other tabs.

  • How do I fix lost presets and non-working scripts?

About two weeks ago I attempted to use a curves preset (CS5 up to date) and discovered that the choices had disappeared and all I was left with was default and custom.I found that this applied to all other presets. 6 hours on the phone with Adobe tech support has yielded no solutions. They had me deinstall and reinstall the program - TWICE - along with the preferences and that did not work. The problem exists with both my CS4 and CS5 versions - on my desktop computer only. Whatever is causing the problem does not affect the presets in Lightroom 3.
I also noticed that my automate functions - like photo merge and script functions like image processor are not working either. When I try to use them I get a dialogue box that reads: JavaScript code was missing. I suggested this might be the problem to Adobe Tech Support and they offered no help. Trying to get to a senior level tech has also been fruitless.
I called Apple. Since the issue is either a CS5 or JavaScript issue. No help there.
I looked into CS5 and found a javascript debug for CS5, I tried running that, but I really don't know how to deal with it. It didn't work either. If someone can get me off this treadmill, I would be ever thankful. If you can respond to my email after posting the answer here for others to absorb, that would be great.

    Solution found.
It seems the problem stemmed from my renaming my hard drives a few weeks ago as I was reorganizing my data. I named my primary drive Apps/Data ...
Adobe had put out this advisory a few months ago. When I asked the senior support tech why no one down the line, in the seven hours I spent talking to support knew about this, he said it was because most people do not rename their hard drive. There are 4 solutions offered, it was the very first one that solved the problem.
Errors occur when using scripts such as Merge to HDR Pro and Image Processor | Bridge CS5 and Photoshop CS5
Solution 1: Make sure that the hard disk on which Photoshop CS5 is installed does not have the name of a folder that is specific to operating system functionality, such as "Applications" or "Users." Rename hard disk to a non-conflicting name.

  • IPad2 has wifi issues where others have not

Hi there, I have an iPad 2 that works fine on my wifi network. However, it's behaving different than my iPhone 4. I have 3 Airports Extreme in the house and 1 of them is dying, meaning it drops off the network every few days. A restart brings it back into the network. With 1 Airport down and 2 up, the iPad 2 can't connect to the network where the iPhone 4 has no problem connecting. All Airports have the same list of accepted clients. Out of curiosity: is the wifi architecture of the iPhone 4 superior to the iPad 2? I know, a new Airport will fix this but as I said, I'd like to know if there's difference. Thanks.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Your ios 7 has broken my wifi connection on my ipad. I hve a brand new router 30hrs old. My ipad 2 is not jail broken, jst ios 7 broken! Turning my router on and off could possibly break this also. Entropy seems solid!
My iphone 4 has no issue with ios 7 nor my apple tv!? This is becoming very fustrating nd quite annoying, I never had a problem with ios 6. Issue purely with
ios 7. Had to have telephone connections checked also, no luck! Have also spent monies on xtra GB, problem still persists, making it very unreliable to wrk with product! Would like to remain with product? If problem can be contained and rectified. Confidence is quite low in remaining with company. Can there be a speedier solution to this unreliable update, thats just manifesting in my ipad2 before it becomes stagnant. Just knowing if your technicians cannot solve the problem would ease my mind if i need to re-invest with another company (sadly) for my ipad2 works perfectly with all apps, its just the main heart beats been cannabalized, as though you have three repeaters missing in your program???? To keep our WIFI on the matrix because itz not in the Matrix. Have tried your quck fix solutions only to find their only wishful thinking. (Downtime)
Next message i read prefferably would be a lot more solid and positive in solving this technical glitch thats becoming nothing but a big itch so K. I. S. S use our S. W. A. T. analyses, head down and P. P. P. P. P. would you agree and hopefully we can all get on with our own private lives and come up with positive replies and better ideas instead of big ideas that just ain't 99.9% Working!
Anyhow Good Luck Hope you Work it Out.!!!
Since posting this hopeful delima, iOS 7 has stayd connected for at least a solid 12 hrs+, iCloud backup has now been running more than 5.5 hrs with no interruptions, storage information at top of page has also disappeared indicating a backup rate of 60% success, f this b my new iOS, I only have heart crossd, not fingers. Future update, Probable. Hopefully finger on the button, Confidence, High!!!
    So far wifi still connected

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Ipad 2 wifi issues

    Hi
I'm having problems with the wifi on my ipad 2, for the ipad to connect to the router i have to place it directly next to my router and it will connect with no problems but trying to connect to the router more then 1 metre away from the router the ipad doesn't find the router at all. This being my first ipad I just thought it was the way they are only for my brother to bring his ipad 1 to my house his ipad not only connects instantly to my router from anywhere in the house but also finds another 5 wifi connections. If I was to use my ipad upstairs in the room directly above the router it will stay connected for about 5 minutes and loses connection and I have to go down stairs and place the ipad2 next to the router for it to connect again where as my brother slept in the bedroom furthest away from the router and found the router and connected straight away and stays connected!
Is there something different in the way the ipad2 has been built or do you think I have a problem with my ipad?
I would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
    Thanks
    Gary

  • Is it possible to have a bad iPad2 WiFi receiver?

I have two iPad2s in the family and one has a better/stronger WiFi signal. They are the same iPad2, same configuration, and same case. I have experienced instances where the iPads are in the same room, side by side and one iPad has a WiFi signal and the other does not. The weak receiver still receives a signal, but if the WiFi signal is weak, one receives a signal and the other does not. Thanks!

It's possible. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Ios 6.1 upgrade doesn't work ipad2 wifi

I am running into difficulty upgrading my ipad2 to ios 6.1. When i try (settings/general/software update/install now/agree) i get a "verifying update" banner, and then a popup that says "unable to verify update.  Ios 6.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet"
Trying again just gives the same result.  I am connected to the internet just fine, can browse, etc.  i've tried rebooting the ipad, and resetting the wifi router, rejoining the network, all with the same result. Ay ideas?

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • TS3304 My ipad2 wifi 16GB will not now connect to ANY wifi network.

My router, BTHOMEHUB2 is working fine, as my iPhone4 and my wife's iPad2 connect ok.
My iPad2 has suddenly stopped being able to connect to ANY wifi network, both at home and local pub.
Have done a Restore. Message is 'Unable to connect to network'. In the pub, no message, but kept asking for password.
    Any suggestions appreciated please.
