Ipad2 with wifi WEP connectivity problems

Please anybody could help me to get connected my ipad2 to a wifi wep. The ipad recognizes the wifi but not able to connect... Thanks

This is from the Apple WiFi trouble-shooting document: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
- If you are using WEP security and have multiple WEP keys on your Wi-Fi router, try configuring your Wi-Fi router to use only a single WEP key in key index 1.
- Consider using WPA or WPA2 instead. WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols are newer, more effective security options for wireless networks than the older WEP protocol.
WEP security should really not be used. It has been deprecated by the WiFi Alliance as insecure since 2004 (it can be cracked in seconds by hackers).

Check the IP address assigned to your iPad (touch the ">" next to your network name in Settings > WiFi). If it starts with 169 then your router has not assigned a valid LAN IP address to your iPad. It might appear to be connected but you will have no success on the internet.
Sometimes restarting your router by temporarily (30 seconds) removing/restoring power to it will solve this problem. If it doesn't check that your router has up-to-date manufacturer's firmware and test your iPad on some other networks to see if it works properly there.

I have an ipad2 with wifi and 3G.  My wife and I are traveling in France (Nice) then into Italy.  We are unable to purchase a data plan because our Verizon IPad will not accept a sim chip...we are told.  An Apple store employee here said this model is good only in the US. The iPads here take a sim card. We were advised by an Apple Store Employee at home that this model would work in Europe and that we could buy our service here.  That does not seem to be the case.    We have been told that we must invest in a modem at 200.00€ and then purchase a separate service plan for each country. We can use the free wifi wherever it is available but we cannot connect to the outside world when out of range. Is there anything else we can do?
    Thanks, John

Unfortunately, no other solution is available.
    Hope this helps

  • Can I use Ipad2 with wifi +3G with an Alltel Motorola MilestoneX 3g hotspot phone?

Alltel is my mobile service provider, and they are now offering the Motorola Milestone X running Android 2.2; this phone can function as a 3G hotspot.  If I have an Ipad2 with wifi+3g, and I turn the hotspot functionality of the phone on, can my Ipad then connect to that hotspot signal created by my phone--even though my service is through Alltel and not Verizon or ATT?  Alltel charges $20 a month for this functionality on top of my smartphone plan, but it provides unlimited data usage.  The fee for 3G Ipad date service for both Verizon and ATT is just a little more, but they have data limits on those plans.
Any assistance/info you can provide will be appreciated!

ok, so the phone creates a wifi signal, not a 3g signal--then the Ipad connects via wifi, not 3G, to the phone-- and then gets data off the 3G network ...that is where I was confused. Data flows from the Alltel 3G signal to the phone, then from the phone's wifi hotspot via a wifi signal to ipad's wifi receiver...
I was not sure if the phone "created" a 3G signal that the Ipad was then supposed to connect to...
    Much clearer now...thanks!
So, if this is how I am going to use it, do I even need the Ipad+3G--I really would only need the Ipad2+wifi, correct???

You can get Mifi devices (the iPad connects to it via wifi and they then give access to 3G networks). I've never used one and I don't know if they are available in Canada (and if so how much they would cost). If you have an iPhone then you could also use that as a mobile hotspot

  • If i bought a ipad2 with WiFi 3G.Can i use it in china?

Can i use the ipad2 with WiFi+3G in china? If i want to use 3G in china, can i ?

Sure, go to a Chinese cell provider that offers a microSIM compatible with the iPad, take out your AT&T microSIM and use that one.

  • I have an ipad2 with wifi which I am planning taking abroad. Can I use one of those prepaid USB devices to acces Internet not having 3G? Is there a way around this

Other than using wifi I have been trying to see if I can use my iPad2 to access the Internet. I don't really want to upgrade to 3G now as ihave alredy purchased my ipad2 with wifi only.

Not if they could get a microSIM from a local carrier that supported tethering. Plus I believe that I have heard that various US carriers have a different roaming rate for data than for phone calls which is not as expensive, OCICBW.

  • Problems with WiFi network connectivity post 2.1 upgrade

Have been having problems with WiFi connectivity since installing the 2.1 upgrade. When attempting to view some websites I get a "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet" message. The same addresses can be resolved from my iMac at the the same time. Other websites don't have problems. Funnily enough www.apple.com is one of the effected sites.
I can also only sporadically gain access to the App store & the iTunes store from the device. I mostly get a message stating - "Cannot connect to iTunes store".
I am connecting through a WPA encrypted access point. I have tried restoring the device, resetting network settings, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this? After work tonight I will temporarily set my access point to WEP, just to see if the problem may be related to WPA. I have read that the iPod touch is effected by this.
    Thanks,
    Matt

No problem. The iPhone uses lower power on the WiFi transceiver to save the battery. It won't have the 50 meter range that one might see for other devices. As long as it works reliably when it is closer to the access point it is working normally.

  • WiFi Internet connectivity problems after upgrade to 10.8.4

After upgrading to MacOS 10.8.4 I am facing regular interruptions to my WiFi internet connectivity. Periodically the internet connectivity is lost and the only way to fix the problem is to turn WiFi off and on again. This happens frequently when I am downloading files at using big bandwidth (more than 1.5-2 MB/s). If I use assist me on the Network preferences tab, it displays an ISP error when the connectivity is down, however I am certain that I do nota have any kind of ISP or router issue since at the same time I have WiFi internet connectivity from my iPad mini, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore it should be a 10.8.4 issue

    problems..
Have you tried contacting your ISP to see if they can talk you through a trace from your computer to phobos.apple.com?
Some people with AOL were having problems and it turned out that their tracelog revealed connectivity issues.
You say that a lot of people are having problems but I'm not having any problems up here in Canada connecting and I had no problem yesterday or on friday. I have had problems in the past but I assume that it was network issues on the ISP side since I had problems connecting to some other sites as well.

  • Wifi / browser connection problem with IOS 6

With IOS 6 and iPad 3 or Iphone 4, I can't connect to my enterprise wifi anymore.
I connect to the network without any problem. But afterward, within Safari where I'm have to put login and password (trapeze networks btw), it blocks on "submitted" and don't proceed further.
While with IOS 5.1.1 it worked perfectly and with my Blackberry, I don't have any problem today. I suppose a IOS 6 bug...
I tried to put the proxy http on auto.
I tried to reboot the idevices.
    Both without any improvement.
    Any idea?

These steps/ workarounds were defined as follows for the difficulties experienced with IOS6 clients.  These have been tested using Juniper / Trapeze MSS software version 7.6.x and above
    1.  Set web-portal ssl-mode <none/full>
Was to set the ssl mode to none or full(both work OK for the IOS6 devices)
Since there are concerns with the security, please try if the ssl-mode turned to full brings a change.
    2.  Set web-portal force-html-login mode disable
This command requires users to login through a Web portal page. The current implementation of Web portal on the Juniper WLC/Trapeze MX includes specific handling of Apple's iOS devices. When a request for for this URL is sent, the WLC responds with a spoofed HTTP response including the anticipated 'Success' page contents. This was implemented as a workaround to an earlier problem with older versions of iOS. In the current iOS, if the   requesting device does not get the anticipated response the iOS device. automatically opens a Web browser interface and then the web-portal login page.
Juniper engineering are anticipating the fix on the next maintenance release of the MSS.

  • N95 Wifi WPA connection problem

I recently bought the Nokia N95 and everything is working except the wifi WPA part. I DL the latest firmware (v20.0.015) but that didn't help.
Everytime i connect with my home wifi lan it asks for a password. It doesn't matter what password i try it says "invalid pre-shared wpa key" So even simple passwords like "12345678" or "merryxmas" don't work. If i change from WPA-PSK to WEP 128 bit WEP key then it works ???
This must be a N95 error ? I also tried tkip and aes but that didn't help. My Phone AP settings r:
    Network - public
    WPA/WPA-2
    Pre-shared key
    WPA-2 only - off
Does anybody has a working WPA wifi N95 ???

If I connect to the PC as "Mass Storage" I can see the phone as a removable disk and go into the file structure, just as I could in PC Suite mode. However, if try to drag and drop a file from my N95 to the desktop the phone bleeps intermittently every 2-10 seconds, the USB connection icon on the phone display will blink in time to the phone bleep. The "Copying" bar on the PC shows the file transfer occurring but extremely slowly. E.g. A 4Mb MP4 showed 3 minutes on the progress bar but after 10 minutes was barely a sixth of the way through.
It appears that the connection betweeen the phone and PC is only active when the phone bleeps, in the periods of silence there is seemingly no activity. I think this because if I look at the file structure on the phone, while the trasfer is taking place, the window will freeze until the next bleep of the phone.
Maybe someone can recommend a brand and model USB2.0 PCI card (preferably also with firewire) so that I can buy one that I know works?

  • 4s trouble with wifi. it connects however is very slow then switches back to 3g

If anyone out there could help I would appreciate it!
iphone 4s brought as a replacement form Apple on the 6 September  2013 has developed an issue!
I can connect to my home BT HomeSpot however its so slow and will then go back to 3g, so frustrating!  I have a BT Booster and the single is strong, we have no problem with any of our other devices.
i've been to the Apple store twice now and they've said there is nothing wrong with the device as it works on there wifi!
    Can anyone help?

I have brought the Virgin Media super hub back to the manufacturing original configuration then changed the user name and password. Only my iphone was connected. Then I've switched to 5 Ghz = 30Mbpm BANG!; went back to 2.4Ghz=dead. Now is getting worst. At the beginning it was picking at least 2Mbpm. Then 1. Then 0.something. Now it doesn't even connect. I'm pretty sure the iphone 5 must have 2 antennas and the one that uses 2.4Ghz is just gone.
    Any advice?

  • IPod Touch 2G loses WiFi WEP connection, have to re-enter SID and password

We bought a new iPod Touch this week, and it keeps dropping/forgetting the WiFi connection settings. My network consists of a Netgear N router set to mixed mode (B/G/N), WPA, MAC filtering, SSID is not broadcast. I have added the new iPod Touch's MAC address to the routers filter list. On the new iPod I choose Other at the choose a network setting, entered the router information and password, and it connected fine. For a short time it continues to connect fine, but after a few hours or the next day it won't connect (and in network settings it no longer lists my router to connect to). I have to go through the process of choosing other, re-entering the network settings password, and it repeats again...works for awhile, then forgets the setting. We've restored the iPod...same problem
I have 2 iPhones and 2 Gen 1 iPod Touches that we are currently using that have never shown this behavior. The Gen 1 iPod Touches are upgraded to SW version 2.2.1 (5H11).
There are so many postings on the net about the 2nd gen iPod touch having wifi problems that I'm suspicious there's a hardware or software bug that remains unsolved, and am ready to return this unit to BestBuy while I still can unless I can find a solution on this forum.

First of all, turning off SSID was a work around for the issue. Am now consistently connecting to the network. Thank you!!
But in response to luvlab's last response -- how could an issue supporting a common feature of every wireless router ever made not be considered a bug? That would be just plain silly. Given how long the iPod Touch 2G has been out, I fear you're right -- it's a bug in the design that can't be patched with software and is too costly to fix (or it would have been fixed by now), so SSID is just a "feature" that isn't supported.
But still -- I thought apple was better than that (tech marketing, design, software, validation, test), so I hope you're wrong.
