IPad3 (new iPad) stuck at 100% battery

Today I've been using iTunes to transfer some content to my new Ipad. The battery seems to be stuck at 100% though, I've tried resetting the iPad, using it for a few hours at full brightness, and connecting the charger. Stays at 100% no matter what. Also disabling the % counter and re-enabling it, didn't help. Any idea what's going on here?
Need to get this fixed asap, I'm leaving for a long trip to China in about 30 hours, rather annoying to have my iPad act up on my just now :/

This has happened to me twice since getting the new iPad.  The first time, I fixed it by turning off the % indicator then turning it back on.  The second time, it took about 2 or 3 hours of use and then it finally went down.  Interestingly, when it finally dropped, it did not show a sigificant decrease (such as a drop to 80%) nor did it seem to decrease any faster than usual.
Both times I tried the reboot/reset approach described above by Dah-veed, but it didn't work.  Since I am a brand new apple user, I was too afraid to do the restart/restore method since I don't fully understand what that would do to my settings, saved data and apps that I have purchased.
I've seen numerous headlines recently about the iPad intentionally reporting a 100% charge before the battery is fully-charged. I'm not sure if this is related to the problem we are having but, it confirms that, by apple's own admission, the battery meter is intentionally designed to give an inaccurate reading.  Perhaps that intentional tweak to the battery meter is causing other problems with the % display.  Just a guess.

  • My iPad mini is stuck at 100% battery life (HELP!)

My ipad mini has been stuck on 100% battery life all day and when I unplug it, it dies shortly after. I have to keep it plugged it to use it but it gets annoying.
Its been stuck on 100% and has not gone down yet !
I have tried turning it off, rebooting it, I checked my settings to see if I have done anything wrong, but nothing is working!
Any suggestions on what I should do to solve this problem?

Suggestion 1:  Run the device completely dead - and then recharge it.
Suggestion 2:  Restore the device to factory settings (backup first).
Suggestion 3:  Apple Genius Bar or Contact Apple support for a diagnostic test.

  • Brand new ipad stuck in recovery mode with error 21

Brand new ipad just out of box starting setting up and now its stuck in recovery mode and keeps giving error 21 - tried turning off firewalls as suggested and another PC... nothing working... is it a complete turkey or is it me?

Sorry I can't help with your issue. Just wanted to point out that it's not a good idea creating multiple posts on the same topic as it only serves to cause confusion, duplicate answers and divides responses between threads.

  • When charging and using, ipad 2 is 100% battery, does ipad use the power from the power adapter or from the battery?

I have a quention, when i am charging and using my ipad 2 at the same time, if the battery of ipad is fully 100%, does ipad use the power to work from the power adapter only or from the battery only or both? Thanks!

YOu don't have to have your receipt. Apple should have a record of how long you've had the device. If you bought it in april 2012, then your 1 year warranty against manufacturer's defects is almost up. You should find your local apple store, make an appointment and take it in.

  • My ipad 2 just "freeze" last nite, can't be turned off, can't do anything, the page showing is a notice about icloud Backup , but when I touched the Ok prompt, nothing happens, ipad is on 100 battery capacity, it's been almost 24 hrs. any suggestions?

My Ipad 2 freeze since last nite, been almost 24 hrs, last thing it did was this ""icloud back up notice ""appeared on screen, since then, I can't touch OK to get back to where I was , Ipad can't be turned off, can't do anything, first time happened with a frozen screen , it's still within 12 mths old.
any suggestions how to un freeze it, thanks ...?

At first , after I followed instruction to reboot for several times as each time the Apple logo did not appear at all. So gave up. But half an hr or so later, turn it on to check, it seems back to normal once again.
I am very happy. Thank you for all your help ! Can't live without this device !!
    Many thanks.

  • Should I drain the battery of NEW iPad to 0 before fully charing it or not?

I am first time New iPad owner and I like to find out if i should complete drain the battery on the new iPad before giving it a full charge or just charge it right out of box for a better battery life in the long run. I think i read it somewhere that I should fully charge a NEW iPad for a better battery life, but I forget if i should drain all the battery (my ipad already has 92% battery life when turned on) on it before charing for the first time or just charing it right away for a full charge.

If it needs charging then charge it. Don't worry about it. There's nothing specific you need to do.

  • Is it possible to overcharge the "new iPad"?

I read a link from 9to5mac according to which Apple recommends not to charge the new iPad beyond the 100% mark.
    Questions:
Is it possible to overcharge the new iPads? Or are there built in measures to prevent just that?
Otherwise, let's say I plug in my iPad at 10:00 pm, what time do I need to get up (as if I would do that) to unplug the iPad to prevent it
from charging beyond the 100% mark?
    Regards

    So what is this?
    >>CNBC’s John Fortt reports Apple has stated that charging beyond 100 percent could somehow “harm the longevity of the battery.”
Apple is saying when it reads 100% the battery indicator reads 100%. It’s actually full enough to give you the kind of performance that they promise in their marketing. That’s ten hours of all-day battery life. They say if you charge it more than that, you could harm the longevity of the battery. So they say this isn’t just an issue with the new iPad. It was an issue with the previous ones well but this battery is 70% bigger so you’re more likely to notice it.<<

  • Can I use an iPad 2 snap on back cover with the new iPad??

I will be buying the new ipad and i wonder whether an ipad 2 clear back cover can work with the new ipad...because its so early there wont be any ipad "3" back covers around

    its in 0.6mm not 0.7inches
    link: http://9to5mac.com/2012/03/07/the-new-ipad-has-10-hour-battery-life-is-0-6mm-thi cker-and-0-67lbs-heavier/
so 0.6mm is not significant if your using folio, leather, or silicon cases. Just not those form fitted hard covers, it will scratch it especially if you have a full body protector like invincible shielf, this will add additional 1.0+ mm to it.

  • MacBook Pro Retina display vs New iPad Retina display?

Why is type fuzzy on a MacBook Pro Retina display and same type not fuzzy on a New iPad?

The MBA battery life is a favorable factor for student use.  I do not think that a fast CPU will be of benefit to you nor will more than the basic RAM that is offered but I disagree on storage.  I would opt for the maximum available.  Why carry an external HDD if can avoid it.
A MBA is compact and easy to transport and perfect in an academic environment.
    Ciao.

  • New ipad mini face time issue"unable to verify email because already in use"

My daughter had to get a new iPad mini because her battery went out. Now when she tries to face time with the new mini it says  "unable to verify email because already in use". Any suggestions on how to correct without having to create. New email address? I'm a novice Apple user. Thanks for the help headed on a 3 week trip and want to be able to FaceTime with family back home.

    Hi there,
It sounds like you may have more than one Apple ID that shares the same email address. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information on how to get this resolved.

  • Battery reading stuck at 100% (iPad3)

My battery display on my new iPad (3rd gen.) is stuck at 100% even after using it for a couple of hours.  It happened last week and I was able to fix it by turning off the percentage display under settings and turining it back on.  Now that I've recharged, the problem has come back.  I've also tried to reboot by holding down sleep and home but that doesn't work.  I've read that other people have had this problem with the iPad2, but most of them blamed it on an iOS update.  Just wondered if anybody has experienced this with the iPad3, and if so, can you offer a solution?
    Thanks

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • IPad 1 battery indicator stuck at 100%

Since yesterday my iPad's battery indicator has been stuck at 100%. I've used it for a few hours since charging it, so I know the indicator is incorrect. Has anyone else encountered this?
I've tried powering it off and on again, but it still reads 100%.

  • IPad battery life meter stuck at 100% since 5.1 install

My iPad 1 battery life meter has been stuck on 100% since the 5.1 update, even though I have used it for many hours and done a power cycle a few times. Update was done through iTunes.

I guess I spoke too soon...
Doing the reset took it from sticking on 100% to now being stuck on 98% for the last 4 hours. Is there a known problem with the 5.1 update and the battery percentage indicator?

  • New ipad (4days) stuck in start, works for about a minute and then shuts down and restarts (loop)

New Ipad setup and worked fine for 4 days.  5th day it started OK and worked for about a minute. screen did a fade out and it restarted. It is stuck in this loop. I have tried reset, and then restore. It is still stuck in loop. After it up graded to newes version of iOS 5, it did a restore.  I need to configure it like new set up, but it is still stuck in the restart loop so I can not complete.  Battery shows 100% ( now down to about 96%).  I am assuming this is a hardware not a software issue.  Any suggestions?

    Hi there,
If you have already tried restoring your device and have set it up as a new device (not from backup), then I suggest booking a Genius appointment, as yes, this may be a hardware issue.
