IPads in School and Apple's Education Discount

I'm a high school art and photo teacher and I bought the iPad the before the start of school year. I had also bought a 15 inch MBP and 17 inch iMac retiring an old G4 tower. I use the iPad every day showing examples of artwork, videos on art, referring to articles and the like. With 3G I can log into the web based grading and attendance site Infinite Campus that our school uses as we do not have WiFi. Since Infinite Campus requires Java for some functions I have had to rely on Cloud Browes to enter grades.
My only complaint is that the iPad should have been eligible for Apple's educator discount. The iPad is absolutely perfect for use in school while the brand new MBP stays home gathering dust. If ever a device qualified for such a discount it would be for the iPad. I've demonstrated how effective the iPad is to countless teachers, students and some administrators. In a nearby school district 500 iPads were purchased for student and teacher use. Apple's presence in schools need be iPads and iMacs while the hundreds of iPods and iPhones are what need to be left home as they continue to be the most perfect distraction to learning I encounter everyday - in class!

I agree with you but you are not talking to Apple in this forum. It inform Apple go here:

  • Apple Store Education Discounts and iPod 5G

Does anyone know if the retail Apple Stores offer the online education discounts? I asked my wife who's a teacher for a video iPod for X-mas, and was wondering if she can get the discount at the retail store as another purchase option. Thanks.
    Mike.

Michael, here in Australia, or at least in the shop I went to in Canberra, they definitely told me that they could not offer me educational discount on the iPod or its accessories, or any other iPod-related hardware, such as the Nano for example. No problem if you buy online though, you will get the educational discount - obviously -since they advertise it.
Having said that, you might find that some Apple stores will offer you education discount on the iPod. The return policy varies from store-to-store, so it might be the same with regards to their application of ed. discounts. I guess you can only ask...

  • MDM in Schools and Apple ID

    Hello All,
Have a question that I could use some feedback on.  I am in a K-8 school and we currently have about 80 iPads to manage for students (some on carts, some permanent in classrooms).  Here is my major question/ concern:  I would love the ability to push out apps and updates remotely through wifi using an MDM. However, I do not want the users (students) to have to either A- enter their own apple password to initialize download or B- enter the school id and password to initialize download.  Is there any way that we can push out these apps/ updates without having a user enter an apple id on the iPad?  Would anyone suggest a sucessful MDM for schools?

You want either the Institution or Layered for the students.  You want the Layered for staff most likely.
I'd suggest looking at OS X Server & Meraki since it is free and see if they meet your needs.
    There are three ownership models:
        Personal
        Institution
        Layered. combines personal & institution.

  • IPad stopped working and Apple won't do anything

Can anybody help me? Please? My iPad just went dead one evening(8 months old), there was 70% battery left but i couldn't turn back on, tried all suggestions on F.A.Q, like holding home button for 15+ seconds and tried to sync with laptop etc but nothing worked.
I contacted Apple and sent back the iPad, they never even checked my problem, sent me back a photo of the pins where charger connects which were raised and said they wouldn't check my problem as the pins were categorised under "accidential" damage and they don't cover that, I have seen a lot worse on my nephews iPod. there was only 2 adults ever using the iPad and was looked after very well, always in it's protecive case.
The person I spoke to while polite would not do anything for me, i asked to speak to a higher person and was only given a postal address for complaints.
The only options i was given was pay $341(€251) to get the issue fixed or claim off my personal home insurance or take into an agent in my local town(not an actual Apple store), the Apple adviser could give me no assurances as to what this agent would or wouldn't do. Apple basically wanted the problem passed onto someone else even though my iPad was still under warranty, an absolute disgrace, I feel i was treated with contempt. A loyal customer with 3 previous iPods and this was my first iPad, was due to get a smartphone and was going to get an iPhone but will not ge getting this now, will instead get a Samsung or HTC One.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel my only other route left is to go to small claims court
    Sorry for length of post
    Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply tonefox, as for careless use/abuse as you put it, I always took good care of this expensive piece of equipment, never had any issue with my iPod touch of 3 years and counting so don't see why this issue should arise with my iPad,why not the fact that it could be bad quality product as opposed to careless use/abuse.
Small claims court in Ireland is approx $100 so would gladly pay that instead of giving a cent more to apple, what good is a warranty if you can say it's actually not covered.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • IPad remote app and apple tv (gen1)

I have the remote app on my iPhone 4 and iPad. Everything is up to date. The iPhone works fine controlling the apple tv, but I cant get the iPad to connect.
I start the remote app on the iPad get the 4 digit number. I enter it on the apple tv, but it won't let me select the done button.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The Album art is a known issue. Your other problem sounds like your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.
The reason it would work again for a while is that switching AirPlay off and on re-establishes a network connection. Whether that's what is happening isn't certain, but it could explain:
...... but that wouldn't explain why each time, it starts playing again correctly when I unclick and click the ATV in the Multiple mode dropdown.

  • I lost my ipad at school and it is currently offline

I lost my Ipad last December 15,2014,Monday at Trinity International School, soi 36 Suhumvit,Bangkok,Thailand,10110.i declared it in a lost mode. How can i locate it if the device is offline.

Only if they get it on the internet. Did you have the screen passcode locked? If so, then they can't get past that to get your ipad onto a internet connection.
The only way a locked iPad can get on the internet to be seen by find my iPad would be if the finder got it onto a known internet connection.
might happen but I wouldn't count on it.
You're gonna need to do old fashioned looking and searching

  • Cannot facetime from ipad icloud account and apple id differ

Frustrated that my phone and ipad were linked, I changed the id associated with my iPad- now it's linked to an icloud address, but I can no longer facetime.
I've reset my pasword SEVERAL times to no avail.
I used to get kick backs/ double texts and both devices would ring for facetime.  want them to be independent of each other.

    1) There is support. You have to actually contact them and ask to speak to Account Security.
    2) iCloud is as secure as your password. If you share your iCloud/iTunes account with others, or use the same password for iCloud as you do for other online services, then it is more likely to be guessed by hackers. I doubt the Italian Police are experts in internet security so don't believe what they say.
    3) Bottom-right of every page on Apple.com is a Contact Us link. Use it.
    4) iCloud storage and iTunes / App Store purchases cannot be transferred. Better to secure your existing AppleID and continue using that.

  • Old iPad, new PC and Apple ID.

I have had an iPad 3 since 2012. I then got a laptop, and when I got an iPhone, I got a new Apple ID. I am now trying to plug the iPad into my PC, and it says "Welcome to your new iPad." I have no backup. What can I do without wiping my iPad?

  • Ipad mini retina and Apple TV

I just got a retina Ipad mini a little over a week ago and an Apple TV (3) yesterday. When I turned on mirroring on my 1080p TV I get black bars on either side and a slightly narrower image on the TV. I figured this is due to the different aspect rations of the Ipad (2048x1536) and the max resolution of the display (1920x1080). I've tried using the TV (Sony XBR2) screen adjustments but can't get a full screen without zooming - which of course, cuts off the edges of the display. The only solution appears to be getting a newer TV that can handle the higher Ipad resolution but that would involve having to get a new TV. Are there any other options short of replacing my TV with one that does the higher res?
    Thanks
    Norm

Have you tried setting your TV Resolution?

  • Proof you're a student to get educational discount???

I am currently a higher-education student. How do I find out if my school qualifies for the educational discount, and, what kind of proof will the Apple Store need to prove I am a student??? Just a school ID???
    Thanks.

    Hi, again.
Start here at the Apple Store for Education.

  • IPad 64 gb and iMcac 21" vs. Macbook pro 15"

I am a junior in high school and I currently have a Macbook pro 15" 2007 version. It is half broken from use. When it breaks i need to get something else. I was thinking EITHER an iPad 64 gb and a iMcac 21" OR a Macbook pro 15" If I were to get the iMac/iPad combo I would save $100 USD. I use my mabook pro for; web browsing, word, sometimes Power point and excel. My school bag weighs 27 pounds (no joke) and i would like to lighten it. I figured that I could just you the iPad at school and have the iMac at my house as a base computer. What do you think I should do?

The MBA can be purchased with 4MB memory, faster cpu and more storage capacity so that it will be funtional for a long time. You can also get a CD/DVD drive for it in a separate enclosure. The iMac can last for years...can be purchased with a lot of memory, very fast cpu, and can take peripheral storage, and has a builtin CD/DVD.
The iPad with Pages installed can read and export files in Word .doc format. The other parts of iWork for the iPad can not export in MS Office product formats.
If you are looking for the most power and lowest weight, the MBA is a real contender. The larger version gives a usable screen area close to the MBP, good computing capabilities, software compatibility, lighter weight than the MBP, and peripheral equipment that should meet your needs.
Bottom line, though, is if you can go visit an Apple Retail store or retailer and try out the various options, spend enough time to get really familiar with each, and then talk prices with them for the options that suit you the best.
The iPad is really nice, but the MBA sure changes things.

  • Higher Educational Discounts badly advertised in the UK.

This probably isn't the right forum to write about this, but it seems the most suitable.
I am extremely disappointed by apple right now. I bought a MacBook 1 1/2 months ago and was very happy with it until I found out that Apple does educational discounts. In my case it would have been £125 (nearly 200$) as well as an extended waranty! When I called the store where I bought it they said I would have had to tell them within 14 days of purchasing it.
What really annoys me is that they don't advertise it properly. There was nothing in the store suggesting it and the person at the checkout could have always asked, as I do look like I a student.
I just lost a lot of respect for Apple and would have problems recommending them to anyone, even though I am happy with the MacBook itself.
The worst part is that I found out about the discount while looking around for an ipod as my old mp3 player just broke. Needless to say they don't have any discounts on ipod's whatsoever. I even suggested they give me a smaller discount on an ipod instead of the £125, but they said they wouldn't.
Just had to let off steam somewhere. If anyone has an idea for something else I could try please let me know.

It was an apple-run store and I did look on the apple website numerous times but never noticed the link to educational discounts so it is obviously badly placed. When calling them today for example it is a lot more obvious. One of the options to choose from is "if you're a student...".
I think there are cases, like a group of people around 20 where it is very likely that they are students and it wouldn't be hard to ask. In addition to that me and my friends were in the shop (London regent street, so it is a pretty big store) for quite a while and there was no obvious information anywhere. If they want to convince students to switch they should be advertising it!
I know that in the end it's my fault and I have to live with it. Apple could have done a lot to prevent it from happening though and would be well advised to do so as I'm sure I'm not the only person that this has happened to.
In addition to that I don't see why they couldn't be a bit more helpful now and at least give me a discount on an ipod which I can't afford as a result of buying the MacBook. If it was a year later, fine, but less then 2 months is a totally different story in my eyes.

  • Educational Discounts for Software

I couldn't find anyplace else to post this, so hope this is ok. I want to buy some Adobe software - maybe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc. for my MacBook. I work in a school system and have gotten educational discounts from CDW-G (after they swallowed up MacWarhehouse), in the past. The savings for expensive programs are significant. I recently came across two other websites that sell such software to students, teachers, etc. at a discount. They are www.campustech.com, and Studica.com. Prices on all three are comparable, but I never heard of these two. Has anyone here ever ordered from them and can tell me if they are legit and reliable?

I have ordered from AcademicSuperstore.com and they have been great.
I haven't ordered from either of the place you mention. Sorry.
