IPads in the classroom

IS  there a way for an individual pupil to view on their iPad the same information  the rest of the class can see on the interactive whiteboard? The program will be run from the teacher's Microsoft based laptop or PC. There is no need for the pupil to be able to interact with the whiteboard, just look at it close up.

Thankyou, I will try this one out. I would be interested to hear other suggestions too. I am a teacher for children with visual impairments supporting pupils in all phases of mainstream education. The iPad has great possibilities for the visually impaired but accessing Interactive Whiteboard information via an iPad rather than a personal laptop has so far been a stumbling block. I suspect that we will need a variety of options to be tried in different circumstances.

I am a teacher and would like to know how to use the iPad in the classroom?

Since this is a user forum you might wish to do some Google searching on your topic. There are hundreds of ways an iPad could be used in the classroom both by teachers and students. Apple is very much involved in education so you may wish to look further into their programs, but that is not done on the forums but through Apple's website. For example, Students - Mac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad for college and Education - iPod touch and iPhone enable on-the-go and Education - iPad makes the perfect learning ...

(Being sarcastic - its because only the US is big or important enough to warrant volume licensing....)
At this time, until Apple decides to release volume licensing structures outside of the US the only solution would be to use your purchase orders with a company that sells the iTunes Vouchers and redeem those.
However - even then its hard to stay on the right side of the EULA when the terms are all couched in reference to "Personal Use"
I have spoken to some developers in the past about educational discounts, or even support for proxies, and wasn't really impressed with their answers.   But hey - even Adobe has trouble with proxies and consistent approaches - we can't expect independent developers to be able to match the same capabilities...

  • How do you charge your iPads in the classroom?

How do you charge your iPads in the classroom? Is this convenient?

What's the difference between and educator and a teacher?  I always called my teachers "Teacher" or "Teach".
Most use a large cart that hold about a dozen iPads and charge them simultaneously.

  • Using iTunes and the iPad in the classroom

One of the schools that I support in our school district recently purchased two iPads.  We need to establish iTunes accounts that do not have a payment method associated with them.  We have setup the devices and are looking forward to downloading FREE apps from the iTunes store.  We have attempted to create our Apple ID in two different manners:
    1.  Go directly to iTunes on the iPad and select a free app.  Click download.  Prompted to setup an account.  Was not presented with the "none" option for payment.
    2.  Went directly into the iPad settings to "iTunes and App Store."  Again, no "none" option for payment.
Our department does not have access to a credit card nor a gift card due to funding.  I would appreciate any help that the iTunes department can provide to me about how to properly setup these iPads so that our students can utilize them in the classroom.
    Regards,
    Matt

    Greetings fcit@!A,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are not able to select none as your payment type. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • IPad in the classroom

I'm wanting my students be able to work math problems from their desk on a slate that shows their work on the projector screen. Can you use iPad as interactive slates and show on projector? If so how many can I use this way in a classroom at one time?

Yes, but probably not as easily as you would like. The students can not wirelessly connect to a projector like you can wiht a computer. The options are:
    1) Use a VGA or HDMI cable (most likely you'll need a VGA cable for a classroom projector, and the adaptor to go with it). Odds are this won't let them work from their own desks, however.
    2) Connect an Apple TV to your projector - this allows you to wirelessly send the iPad to the Apple TV, and from the AppleTV to the projector - however, you'll likely need an HDMI-VGA Adaptor between the Apple TV and projector.
    3) If you have a Mac connected to the projector, try my http://reflectionapp.com/. This progrom will display the iPad screen on the Mac, which can then be sent to the projector. Sadly, this only works on the Mac - the developer told me they are working on a Windows version, but since it relies on Airplay I'm doubtful they can get it to work in Windows.
    4) You can use the iPad to control a Windows PC (through an app such as Splashtop Remote), or even better with a an "interactive whiteboard" app (Splashtop Whiteboard or Doceri). The latter apps will allow you to approach an interactive whiteboard style interface, the former (simpler) apps will let you control a handwriting program (such as Windows Journal) on the Windows PC, which is then connected to the projector.

  • Ipad 2 in the classroom

I am a 4th grade teacher and we are writing a grant through our district for Ipads and smart technology.  I hooked up my ipad2 to my projector that projects to a promethean board.  I am hoping that someone out there knows of a way to used the promethean pen to interact on the ipad through the board.
On another note...If anyone has any great apps that are good for school please share.

For the latter, visit http://ipadeducators.ning.com/. A good resource for teachers on using the ipad in the classroom, as well as for the necessary tech support.
For the others - there is no way to use the promethean interactive board with the iPad. You can project onto it, but that's it - none of the other features involving the pen. For the Promethean (or any other IWB) to work, you'd need both dedicated software written by Promethean (they have not done so, and I was told by a rep they have no plans to do so because of...) a USB connection from the board into the iPad (i.e. a second "out" in addition to the 30 pin out, which is used for the VGA connector to the projector).
When you're connecting to an interactive board, you have two things going on: the projected display (which is the easy part - just the computer to the projector) and the interactive communication going on between the board and the software on the computer. There is no way to reproduce the second part on the iPad as currently designed.

  • How to wirelessly connect iPad in a classroom?

We are from education organization and would like to purchase 10 pcs of iPad for the classroom use. We will use it to connect each student in a group setting and interact with them. The teacher and the student always at the same page and each one of them able to respond to the question being asked and will update to all screen together. Please advice will the iPad 4 able to do it and what apps or gadget we need to purchase in order to make it work. Thanks.

That is possible with the iPad, you would need to install an app like gotomeeting (http://www.gotomeeting.com/fec/ipad_iphone_android_apps) and have an wireless network.

  • Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.,

Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.

    Absolutely!
Install Splashtop2 on the PC and enable it to be controlled or ran from iPad or Reflection to simply allow iPad to serve as PC unwired monitor. With Splashtop and an Apple TV connected, you use the smartboard as usual, yet the PC and iPad can see the same content. The impaired child can even interact with the Smart Board via the iPad as if he were writing directly on the big screen. Erasing functions can be done by touching the Smart Board manual controls. Several variables are in play that cause this lack of functionality:
Apple won't permit PC software that infringes its proprietary apps.
Smart Board companies refuse to develop iPad apps because they feel threatened and are being replaced by iPads
School districts think Apple TV is meant for copyright infringement and could expose them to safe harbor lawsuits
Network administrators make it impossible to login Apple TVs because they don't want the streaming occurring
Classrooms are not able to keep up with the technology of using the iPad
Clicker companies refuse to play with iPad because they see it as a potential threat to their core business clients
Apple is not working as hard as it could to exploit its capabilities in education, thus losing money in iPad sales
The bottom line is that we educators and technology developers are hurting our childern with petty conflicts.

  • What accessories are needed to connect my Apple TV to my LCD projector (VGA connectors) in the classroom so that I can mirror my iPad for around the class teaching?

I have been wanting to project my iPad to my class and the only way I have found is to use the connector. However, I would like to remove myself from in front of the classroom and move around the classroom. This encourages students to take notes and not pass notes. This also encourages them to engage in questioning of the lesson, because the teacher is not far removed from them if they're in the back of the classroom. How can I connect? I've read some forums that discuss converters and many who say it needs to be active or powered, but some of these powered converters are nearly two times the amount of the Apple TV. I wouldn't mind paying if this is the suggested way and it works. I don't want to go through several failed and expensive experiments.

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (if you are using the Apple TV 2)

I recently got an iPad and want to use it in the classroom toad in teaching history and geography, any suggestions on how to get started?

I assume you have a data projector to which you want to connect the iPad. You will need the appropriate lead. Is it written material you wish to display? What programmes is your information on?, eg, PowerPoint, Keynote, Pages, Word PDF's etc. A lot more information is required.

I Recommend the iPad Mini Retina, it's not to big, and not to small. It has the speed of the iPad Air due to it having the same 64 Bit chips. ( And it's a lot cheaper!!) I have one myself and it's perfect for my school work!

  • How can I import photos from photo stream to windows photo gallery? These photos are not on the camera roll on my iPad but are from another iPad on the same iCloud account.

I work at a Learning Center that has 12 iPads on the same iTunes and iCloud account.  Each classroom uses an iPad assigned to their room to take photos.  Each of these photos then shows up in the Photo Stream in all 11 of the other iPads.  I have no trouble importing photos that are in the Camera Roll of any individual iPad, but I have not been able to import photos from the Photo Stream if the picture was not taken on the specific iPad I am using.  It is not feasible for me to collect all 12 iPads everyday to import everyones photos, so how can I use one "master" iPad that will let me import photos from the Photo Stream since it has all the photos that everyone has taken?

You downloaded an iCloud backup to your PC?  I assume you mean you downloaded your photo stream to your PC.  What you may not know is that photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days.  After that, they are deleted from photo stream but not from any device that already has them (such as your phone).  When you enabled photo stream on your PC you only had access to photos from the last 30 days since the others are no longer there, even though they remain on your phone.
To transfer these to your computer at this point you have two options:
Save them to the camera roll on your phone (by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  (You can only import photos to your computer from the Camera Roll album.)  Then import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or
Use an app like PhotoSync, which can wirelessly transfer photos from any album between your devices/computers, including the my photo stream album.
In the future, always import your photos from your camera roll to your computer via USB before deleting them.  Don't rely on photo stream or your iCloud backup to save your photos.
