Ipbase to IP service License upgrade stack switches

All
switch part number # WS-C3750X-48P-S
current License Level:  ipbase
switch currently connected as a stack with three switches
I am planning to install license to make existing switch IP base to   full L3 functionality that is IP services , just to make sure that I need to install license  in all the switches I think yes ??, also would like to check while upgrading licensee
I need to break the existing stack , install licenese reload and connect again stack ?? or without breaking stack copy lic each switch flash and load once , since it is production switch bit concern .
Regards
Lerner

It seems that you should be able to download license to all the members and then from the master send command to make them boot with the new license. Don't forget to accept the EULA.

  • Import TAR image into PI 2.0 for upgrading stack switches

    Hi all,
I have searched and searched but not found an answer so I'm hopng there is someone out there who has had a similar problem.
There are over 30 C3750 stacks in my network and I will be needing to upgrade the image them all in the near future using CPI 2.0.
I found this bug https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuj31728   which speified to "make sure to distribute using tar file instead of bin"
I have downloaded c3kx-sm10g-tar.152-1.E1.tar from cisco website and also the BIN c3750e-universalk9npe-mz.152-1.E1.bin
The BIN image file imports successfully, however, the TAR image does not, giving me the error:
    Image collection from source  SUCCESS
Copying Image to Staging Location SUCCESS
    Copying Image to Repository  FAILURE
Cannot find anything in the logs which indicated the reason for the failure.
Has anyone else tried to import the TAR image file as the workaround for Bug CSCuj31728 suggests?
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg.

I could point to other threads and how others have optimized their storage. There are faster drive options and configurations.
Same can be said for all the threads here on upgrading graphic card and what options - flashed cards are often your best bet.
Depends on file sizes whether more RAM will help, but I'd say 4GB is a base minimum, not optimimum.
The G5 allows for up to 5 internal hard drives using controller and G5 Jive from Sonnet, and work off RAID0 boot volume, and for scratch, plus media drive.
I'd look at new iMac when they next get product line refresh instead. Between RAM, hard drives, video, you could be half way to cost of your new Mac, or the cost of Mini. But I wouldn't wait beyond say January/Feb.

  • 4500-x VSS license upgrading

    Hi,
We are required to upgrade a 4500-x VSS cluster from IPBASE to ENT SERVICES.
Should we buy two licenses packs? Or a single one? Since VSS forms one logical entity.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Even though they are logically one switch but you need one license per chassis.  If you put 2 sups in one chassis than you only need one license.

  • Magic number mismatch: bad mzip file in 3750 stack switch

Hi All can anybody help me in this error msg
"magic number mismatch: bad mzip file"
I am trying to upgrade the switch  with"c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE5.tar" in 3750 stack switch it is  showing this error msg while booting
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
The reason you are getting this error message on the switch is a corrupt or wrong IOS image "c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE5.tar".
If the switch is in rommon mode, and you have any other image in the switch, boot it using that image. Once the switch is up, download and copy the correct IOS image once again on the switch and try to upgrade.
If you need help in finding the correct IOS image, give me the exact switch model number, i will help you with that.
But forsure the image is wrong or corrupt and that is why you are getting this error.
    Thanks

  • What is a stacked switch?

    Hi,
Can anyone explain what is a stacked switch and what kind of switches can be stacked and why the switched need to be stacked and how they work.
Any links that I can go through to get the details.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Shyam

    Hi
When you talk about stacking the cisco switches, there are two techniques
gigastack :- In this you connect all the switches uplink with gigabit stack GBIC.
guru prasad has given one cisco url for that.
and all the switches that support stackwise technology are now end of sale.
    stackwise and stackwise plus :-
Cisco StackWise technology unites up to nine individual Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches into a single logical unit, using special stack interconnect cables and stacking software. The stack behaves as a single switching unit that is managed by a master switch elected from one of the member switches. The master switch automatically creates and updates all the switching and optional routing tables. A working stack can accept new members or delete old ones without service interruption.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_white_paper09186a00801b096a.shtml
now we can say that we have only one stacking option available that is of stackwise as all model which supported gigstack are now end os sale.

  • BI Activities in Service Pack Upgrade

    Hi,
We are upgrading all the systems to the next service pack. Presently BI is on Netweaver Stack 12 and application stack 14. Basis is planning to upgrade the Netweaver stack to 17 and application stack to 19. As part of this upgrade project they would need the activities which can be planned from BI side. Can any one help me to identify the activities need to be planned from BI side during and after the service pack upgrade. Based on this I would need to prepare the estimates for the activities.
    Regards

No you don't need to stop SQL Services before patching, but you may be required to restart SQL after a patch has been applied for changes to take effect.
SP installation checks for locked files, it would suggest to stop identified services manually.
You don't need to do before hand.

  • OSPF in IP Base License (Cisco 4500 switch)

    Hi,
Can someone explain what is the purpose or meaning of "OSPF for Routed Access" in IP Base license for 4500 switch? I'll be installing 4500 switch for my distribution, and 6500 switch for my core. These two switches will use OSPF as their routing protocol. The 6500 comes with an IP Service license, while 4500 comes with IP Base license only. I am worried if I will have a problem implementing OSPF between the two since IP base states it has "OSPF for roued access", while IP services supports OSPFv2 and v3.
    Please help...
    thanks,
    shawn

    Shawn
OSPF for routed access is designed to allow you to extend L3 to your access layer. It supports one instance of OSPF and up to 200 routes. That said i have come across a thread on here where a person reports having many more routes so i'm not sure it is a hardwired limit but i would try and stay within that.
See this link for details -
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/product_bulletin_c25-553133.html
Edit - i should say i have not use it myself but from the document it seems pretty clear it is simply a normal OSPF setup but limited to how many routes you can have.

  • 3750 Stack Switch Issue

    Hi
I have Stack of 7 3750 Switches. In that Switch 1 is master with 15 Priority and other switches are Member but because of some reason switch 1 rebooted and then Switch 2 becomes Master because it’s having 14 Priority.
We have 2 uplinks which connected on switch 1 (1/1/1) and switch 6 (6/1/1) Tengig port. Also we have 4 AP connected on switch 6.
So we observed that the Switch 1 came up and after that 3 AP is disconnected from WLC. if we disconnect the uplink port on Switch 1 (1/1/1) AP will connect the WLC and using uplink 6/1/1 but if we connect uplink port 1/1/1 and disconnect the uplink port 6/1/1 all 4 AP will disconnect from Network.
We try to connect the Uplink 1/1/1 to Switch 1 other port 1/1/2 but face the same issue. So we reconnect the port 6/1/1 and used the same link which connect on 1/1/1 to switch 7 (7/1/1) and AP will connect on WLC. So as per this troubleshooting we thought some issue with Network Module or Switch of Switch1.
So we Swap the Network module between Switch1 and Switch7 and connect the uplink on 1/1/1 but face the same issue and if we connect the same uplink on Switch 7 Ap connect to WLC.
So we thought that Switch is having issue. But before raising an RMA for Switch we observer 1 more thing that. Earlier that when the Switch 1 is Master all 4 AP's connected to WLC and working fine but when the Switch1 became rebooted and Switch2 became Master issue started. So we rebooted the Switch 2 and make switch master and found that while connecting on port 1/1/1 of Switch port AP's are able to connect to WLC and Issue resolved.
So I wants to know that is there any requirement that If the high priority switch rebooted and after came up it should not be Master then connected uplink will not work.
Also let us know what’s happen if the high priority switch came up in network. Means it’s will became Master or Menber.

Just now i Found one bug which is matching on our issue.
3750x stack fails to update ARP table after reboot causing traffic loss
    BUG ID:-CSCtz98066
Symptoms: When the master switch (Switch A) is reloaded or loses power and
rejoins the stack as a member switch, any traffic stream being sent through
Switch A is unable to be received by the destination because the newly joined
member is not able to establish an ARP entry for the next hop router/switch.
Debugs confirm that Switch A does not send a GARP/ARP for the next hop, though
traffic continues to be sent to the switch.
Conditions: The symptom is observed when only Switch A has a physical
connection between the source and destination router/L3 switch. The newly
elected master (Switch B) does not.
Workaround: Ping destination from Switch A, forcing ARP request/response.
Also affected version is 12.2(58)SE and15.0(1)SE2 and we are using IOS 12.2(58)SE.
So we are going to upgrade the devices by this weekend with IOS 15.0(2)SE5.
Will update you once we upgraded the switches.

  • Failover fails (turns off) after License Upgrade for 5520s.

    Hi-
I recently did a license upgrade on an active/standy pair of 5520's (8.04) for a 2 to 50 SSL VPN upgrade. According to Cisco Document #70390 it should have been a no brainer...but it wasn't. According to the doc upgrading the activation key of the primary then doing a wr mem along with a physical shutdown causes the secondary to become active. But in my experience as soon as the new activation key was entered failover broke. This caused the secondary to remain inactive and I had to reboot both to get the network back up (of course only one could be active and so I took the secondary offline so I could upgrade it via serial). So I brought the secondary up (after activation key upgrade) and failover did not kickin. I did a sh failover on both machines and both said failover was off. I would do the failover command on the primary and secondary...nothing. It wasn't until I did a no failover active on the secondary that failover finally started to work properly.
Anyone else have this experience? I have a ticket open with Cisco for the Doc # 70390 for clarification via my experiences. Any input would be appreciated on this. I was working on the assumption that I would have 2 to 3 minute outage as the primary rebooted but turned out to be a longer outage than anticipated and higher ups were pissed...
    Thxs. --Rob.

    Hi Rob,
Firstly - thanks for posting all your findings with this issue, otherwise I would have followed the Cisco doc too!
I just have a couple of queries though... after failover is disabled and the ASA's remain in their current state, rather than use the console port to perform the license upgrade, would the "standby" ASA still be assigned the 'standby' IP address, even though failover is disabled? For example, the active had the inside ip address 1.1.1.1 and the standby was assigned 1.1.1.2 on its inside interface. Would this configuration state be the same when failvoer was disabled?
The reason for asking, is whether the upgrade could be performed remotely (whether this is a sensible idea is another thing!). So could I connect to the "standby" unit by IP to upgrade the license?
The second query is regarding the reboot of both units (as opposed to shutting down). Following the license upgrade on both units, could you just reboot both units ("standby" then "active"), and when they both come back up, enable failover? I would assume the previous "active" unit would again become active and failover restored??
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • FMS on Amazon Web Services License. Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?

FMS on Amazon Web Services License. Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?
After Subscribe on adobe.com(Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 on Amazon Web Services)
I build the Amazon EC2 successfully.
In amazonpayments, the amazon show me an Activation Key.
    On  Application Activation:
The screen give me following information.
    Generate an Amazon Activation Key
An activation key may be required as part of an application's registration process. If your application requires it, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Click on the Generate Key link to generate an activation key for an application.
Step 2: Copy the activation key.
Step 3: Click on Go to Application to access the application.
Step 4: Paste the activation key if and where the application specifies.
But in Adobe Flash Media Administration console, It is missing the License(Serial Key)
Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?
How can I use the  Activation Key?

    Hi,
This Activation Key is only for identification purposes. In most cases, you will not have to use it. Once you subscribe to FMS on AWS, you are ready to go and use FMS AMI's.
Also, FMS on AWS does NOT require any License or Key. It works on a separate Licensing model.
    Thanks!

  • Sun Ray Windows Connector Terminal Services licenses issue

    Hi!
I've installed the latest Sun Ray 4 09/07 as well as the Windows Connector (srwc) recently released on a machine. I've followed the instructions given in the installation guide. But when 'uttsc' is executed I received the following error message.
"No Terminal Services licenses are available"
I have no issue in connecting to other Windows server (say windows-02) only to this particular Windows server (windows-01). Surprisingly, I have no problem 'uttsc'-ing to windows-01 using pre-existing Sun Ray 4. Any idea why and how to resolve this?
    Appreciate anyone who responds. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jonathan

What Terminal Server license model are you using? And what does Windows Terminal Server License Manger show for number of licenses in use and availble?

  • L2 stack switch - to end-user devices

    Hi all,
I came across a design in my project today and realize that there are 3 x L2 stack switches which will be connecting to end-user computers.
According to the client, for end-user devices, he intend to just connect 1device/interface.
Q1) I am wondering, in this design, the only intention is to increase the number of interfaces/ports , am i right ? as there is only 1 physical cable for each connected device.
    ==========================================================================================
In the same design, there is 2 x L3 switches which are meant for core network connecting to servers computers. They are stacked as well.
In this case, etherchannels are configured on the switches and servers which the 2 interfaces in 1 server are connecting to separate switches' interface in the stack.
Q2) Can I check, for this kind of switch stacking setup, are the etherchannels configure as active, active or it can be configure as active, passive ? or it is switches and servers dependable ?
    Regards,
    Noob

    Hi Reza,
    Thanks for the reply.
Q1) I am wondering, in this design, the only intention is to increase the number of interfaces/ports , am i right ? as there is only 1 physical cable for each connected device.
That is correct.  The end devices (printers, PCs, laptops) usually have one physical cable and you can only connect them to one switch, but sometimes for mission critical environments engineers deploy multiple switches in case one of them goes out for any reason.
What if in the event that 1 of the switch go down, as the switches are stacked, can i just plug out the cable @ interface let's say at switch1 fe0/1 and insert it into switch2 fe0/1 ? (provided it is not occupied)
Q2) Can I check, for this kind of switch stacking setup, are the etherchannels configure as active, active or it can be configure as active, passive ? or it is switches and servers dependable ?
If you issue "sh etherca summay" on the stack, it will show you the port number that are part of that etherchannel.  As for active or passive, usually the switch is configured as active and servers as passive but you can also configure both sides as active.
Do you mean on the server side, only 1 port will be receiving/sending information, but on the switch side, each interface at each of the 2 switches is able to receive/send ?
    Regards,
    Noob
