With the new 2.0 update what will I get? It looks like my phone will get GPS?
GPS is hardware. You cannot update your current iPhone to have the GPS that the new iPhone will have.
However note, your current iPhone does have location services (can find location off cell tower or nearby wifi hotspots). So when you get the new 2.0 firmware update, you will be able to use apps that tap into location services, you just wont be as accurate. So things like true turn by turn directions won't really work for you, but stuff like "show my friends in 10 mile radius" will.

Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch
I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week. -

After getting my software update for safari yesterday (version 6.0) I've lost the google search bar on my menu bar. I've tried customizing the menu bar by dragging the google search bar to the menu bar, but no luck. How can I get the google search bar back?
You can't. It's now integrated with the URL bar. It's a search/URL combo.

IPhone 3.0 software update for iPod touch
I just bought the newest iPhone update for my iPod touch and everytime I try downloading it, it always comes up with an error message that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod xxxxx. The network connection timed out - Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
This happened while downloading the last iPhone update but I finally got that one to work. I have tried turning off the anti-virus software and restarting the computer and iTunes but it barely gets up to 13 MB downloaded before coming up with the error box.I am having almost the same problem. Indeed I can download the whole file, but right after that I got the same message .... network time out (error 3259). I tried turning off the firewall and antivirus, but still can't. I have downloaded the 257.80 mb six times already ...

I have a new iphone and went into Itunes and it said my new iphone needed a software update. I let it do this and now the apps that I put on won't work and when pressed just flash on then off the screen. I paid £20 for one of them so any help would be appreciated.

I got Software update for iOS 6.1 ..
After installation - Phone shows message to connect to iTune,
I connect to iTune - I got message - iTune has detected iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTune.
I click on Restore iPhone - it gives error
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (-1).
Not my phone is not working - Its dead - is show the screen - Connect to iTune.

If you mean iOS, you can't. iOS 4.2.1 is the last version your iPhone will run.

You'll need to find apps that the developers have kept compatible with older versions of iOS and older iPhone hardware. Or buy a new, or newer, iPhone.

I did the software update for my iphone 4s last night and now my incoming text messages show the person's phone number instead of their name when I get a text. Is there a fix to this so I can see their name and not try to guess who's number it is?

Whilst synching to my PC it said there was a software update for the iPhone.
It is now stuck with a message saying connect to iTunes. I've tried resetting it in various ways but it still comes back to Connect to iTunes, but it won't.
