IPhone 2.2 Update won't Connect to PC

I recently upgraded my iPhone with the new software update, and at first, it completely screwed up and like turned off. I went to the apple store and they plugged it in and it suddenly worked fine. When I went home later, I plugged my iPhone in to my computer (Windows XP) and my computer wouldn't recognize it. Well actually, my computer recognized that there was something there, and that there were photos (My Computer > Apple iPhone), but it doesn't recognize the actually Apple device. Worst of all, itunes doesn't recognize it either... I've tried re-installing itunes 8.02, restarting my computer, restarting my iPhone, but nothing seems to work. My iPod works fine, but it doesn't seem to recognize the phone... any help?
Thanks.
P.S., it works fine with my daughter's Macbook & the iMac at the store, but she's leaving in 3 days.

Do I miss something, I thought I read his post several times
What you're missing is that he was updating (not installing, not activating) the iPhone when it "screwed up and like turned off". This means that he didn't have a problem connecting the phone to his PC iTunes before, or he wouldn't have been able to even attempt to update. Obviously, he had to have activated and synched the phone successfully at some time before updating.
It also means that he had iTunes already installed. If his PC and Win XP didn't meet iTunes specs, he never could have installed iTunes let alone update his phone. (He did say that he was able to reinstall iTunes 8.0.2 specifically.)

Suddenly stopped connecting to any wireless network which is secured, WEP/WPA/WPA2/personal/enterprise all do NOT work.
Connects to unsecured networks just fine.
For example, our wireless password is:

I tried with WPA2, no luck.

Tried WEP with 1234567890, no luck.
Tried with NO SECURITY on this wi-fi network, connected right away.
-I did reset PRAM, no luck.
-I deleted from Keychain, no luck.
-I added as prefered network and removed, no luck.
-I added new network location, no luck.
-I removed the Wi-fi network adapter, rebooted, activated, no luck.
-In the mac console logs, all I see are "wlEvent: en1 en1 link DOWN" when I try to connect to my secured wireless network (home or my office or even at a neighbors).
    -Wireless diagnostics tell me nothing
-Console logs do not tell me anything
-Warranty is expired and no AppleCare
Seems like a bug to me, even though I have tried with a Netgear, Cisco/Linksys, D-Link router and even tried tethering to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and iPhone 5, all same problem, says "Connection failed."
    APPLE FRIENDS HELP ME PLEASE!

Well a password that weak will get cracked in about 6 hours on just about any PC in the area.
Now: LKUY*&T&67NH(*JKÎM<PijriuÎÓyhm8t, that's a real good network password, even a huge botnet would have trouble cracking that. I know because my router was PING flooded by the Flashback botnet and survived.
After OS X is reinstalled over itself to fix it, you might have to do more as it could be a "in user account" issue with a corrupted preference file, bad users permissions or another cause that's not OS X

    Hey CompeauC,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I can definitely understand the frustration, and there are some troubleshooting steps that don't necessarily necessitate rebooting the router. I found a couple of articles that should be able to assist you in resolving the issue, one for your Mac and the other for your two iOS devices:

  • IPad, iPhone, and Mac book won't connect to wifi

My ipad (6.1.3), my Mac book (10.6.8), and my iPhone 4(6.1.3) won't connect to home wifi even though all of them did on Sunday night (2 days ago). I have tried forgetting network and reconnecting but didn't work. I have tried to reset network settings on my devices but didn't work. The only thing that works so far is rebooting the router but that's feasible or fair to the other people (who are not apple users) in the house. Everyone else's laptops, tablets, phones, and play station can connect and stay connected. All of my devices can see the network but connection times out. Please help!

  • Iphone 3g pairs, but won't connect to 520 plantronics headset via bluetooth

I have a 520 plantronics headset, it pairs fine with both my MBP and my iPhone. With the MBP, it connects fine and can be used as expected.
It will not, however, connect to the iphone (but pairs ok). I have search the web, but I am just guessing. Does anyone know how to make it work?
Although the 520 can pair/connect to 2 devices (MBP and iphone), my primary interest is in using it with the iphone).
    Thanks

  • Safari and software update won't connect with 10.6.5 and 10.6.6

Downloaded 10.6.5 and 10.6.6 to my 4 month old Macbookpro but safari and software update wouldn't connect. Camino worked fine. I'm back on 10.6.3. It works fine but I would like to update. Suggestion?

In response to how did I update if safari and update didn't work with 10.5 and 10.6. Your question is silly. I updated from 10.6.4 and as I said Camino works fine and always has.

  • Update 7.7.1.11 Update Won't connect to iTunes Store

After the update I cannot connect to the store. I also had the pink screen, changed to 32 bit which fixed the pick background problem. Anyone have this issue. I uninstalled reinstalled the prior version and works fine. Something in the new version is not allowing it to connect.
Internet web is fine. No issue on my connection other than in iTunes.

    1. First do a search for archived iTunes. They are out there on the WWW. FileHippo.com had it.
    2. Uninstall iTunes 7.7.1.11
    3. Reboot when asked to. I keep my files organized and library so the library stayed in tact.
    4. Install 7.7.0.43
    5. Reboot and should be back to normal. Mine was with all album art and iTunes store is again accessible.
I'll wait until a newer version of iTunes comes out.

  • I did an update to my wife's iPhone and now it won't connect through the 3G. It says you are not connected to a cellular data service

I Updated my wife's iPhone the other to the new operating system. It asked me first to use iCloud backup so I did. After the update was complete my wife can use wifi but when we try the 3G it says you are not connected to a cellular data service.
IT shows Bell as the provider but we seem to have lost something during this update.
    can someone help me please.

Check Settings>General>Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is set to On.  If it is, try putting it in Airplane mode for 15 seconds, then turn Airplane mode off again.  If it persists, give you carrier a call to confirm that it's properly activated with them and that your data plan is properly provisioned.

  • IOS 8.2 , iPhone 6 plus , iTunes won't connect to store

since updating my phone iTunes no longer accepts my account or password giving me can't connect to store error message.
WOrked before , worked to sign in to here but won't on the phone.

As provided else where  Store is currently unavailable probably since it is the middle of the night on West Coast when Apple would do maintenance
it is nothing to do with iOS 8 or any other iPhone issues
The servers are not available regardless of the method used to access Mac Windows PC etc etc

  • Original iPhone w/2.0: won't connect to mail servers

I updated my original iPhone to the 2.0 firmware (after some trouble), but now retrieving mail refuses to function.
I use IMAP over SSL, which fails with a "The connection to the server xxx failed." message. I also have tried my GMail and Yahoo accounts... nothing works. Sometimes the 'wait' icon on the top just stays on a long time, sometimes it comes back with an error very quickly.
With a packet viewer, I can see my iPhone sending packets to my mail server and getting response packets, but it just won't work.
I'd suspect bad settings somehow, but then the GMail and Yahoo stuff should be working if it's just a settings issue.
The web browser and App Store work. it's not a network thing.
    Any ideas?

Okay, today for no apparent reason both GMail and Yahoo have started working. My local IMAP is not.
I noticed on the earlier 1.1.4 firmware I had to set up my IMAP server for SSL2... could the new one use SSL3?
Also, my IMAP server certificate is self-signed. The old firmware asked once if it was okay, then allowed it from then on. Does anyone have a IMAP server with a self-signed certificate working with the 2.0 firmware?

Re: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?
created by mpa9366 in Using iPad - View the full discussion
Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.
Wonder why people start to migrate to other devices ?

  • IPhone 4S, brand new, won't connect to computer, will connect to charger. Help?

I bought a new iPhone 4S last week. After trying to connect it to my computer, it asked me to uninstall and reinstall windows. I did. Still wouldn't connect to computer (windows). I have an iPod touch as well. It's been working great with my computer and iTunes for almost two years. Never had a problem with that. With the iPhone I've tried using different usb ports, nothing, different cords, nothing, tried resbooting iPhone while plugged into computer, nothing, tried rebooting the computer with iPhone plugged in, nothing, closed all background running apps, nothing, tried updating to iOS6, and THAT did nothing. It will connect fine to the charger, but my computer absolutely refuses to even sense it. Has anyone else had this problem, or should I just take it back to the store tomorrow?

  • Software Update won't connect in Mountain Lion

Software Update indicates that I have an update available for Pages, but when I type in my Apple ID and password in the App Store (which is where Software Update takes you in Mountain Lion), I get a "Connection failed" message every time. The App Store seems to accept my password on my iPad okay. Is there a problem with Software Update in Mountain Lion?

To follow up, I've been on the phone with Tech Support for two days, and they're stumped too. When I try to connect to Software Update, I get the following message from the App Store: "Cannot connect to the App Store: An Internet connection is required." However, I AM connected to the Internet; Safari works fine, as do all other apps that require an Internet connection. Moreover, I CAN connect to the App Store via the Internet for everything BUT "Software Updates" -  "Featured," "Top Charts," "Categories," etc. For some reason, however, the App Store won't let me connect to Software Update or to "Updates" in the App Store because it cannot detect my Internet connection. I've tried repairing permissions, a "safe mode" restart, creating a new "test" user to verify that my network connections are working properly, and finally today I did a re-install of Mountain Lion...all to no avail. Furthermore, my system (Mountain Lion) seems otherwise to be functioning flawlessly. No other problems at all.
It appears that the problem may not lie with my system, but with Apple's Software Update somehow, but so far they can't seem to track it down.
Curious as to whether anyone else has had this problem with Mountain Lion.

  • Click Wheel Ipod says "needs software update", won't connect

    help!!!
thank goodness i found this forum.
I hope you can help me. i have a 20 GB dock-connector ipod running through a standard USB windows XP computer. it worked wonderfully up until i updated to itunes 6 last week.
    now it has multiple problems:
    1) i updated the ipod software to 2.3, the latest version - but now, every time i connect, it will only upload about 400 out of 500 songs, saying "your software is out of date, run the software updater" despite the fact that the ipod software is at the latest version
    2) i can't transfer any of the songs i've added in the last few months - because of this software out of date problem, even though i've completely updated my software without difficulty.
    any ideas???
    thank you!!!
