IPhone 2.x = Vista

Can I restore the 1.x software to my original iPhone?
iPhone 1.x was so stable, and fast, and worked so well. Since I have switched to 2.x I have had a ton of problems. My iPhone randomly crashes in my pocket on occasion. It won't respond until I hold the two buttons down for 10 long seconds. This happened 7 times in the first 2 weeks I had a replacement phone (my almost 1 year old iphone had a problem with the touch screen and was replaced under warranty at almost the same time as the 2.x software came out, so I can't exclude a hardware issue). I went to the iStore, they reloaded the firmware, I lost all of my notes and certain preferences, and the photos in the gallery, etc. Since then it has happened once or twice, but not nearly as often as before. This may be because I am not using app store apps at the moment, because I fear they cause the crashing I was experiencing. Some iPhone apps would keep going when you put the phone to sleep - draining the battery. Typing was incredibly slow in some 1st party iPhone apps when 2.0 came out (text messaging for example), they have improved that, but the phone is not as fast or stable as it was with 1.x software.
I'm ready to go back to 1.x Just like Vista users are going back to XP.

"It's not recommended to downgrade; the updates are issued to enhance the operability, stability, and security of your device, and by downgrading you may find you're not able to utilize certain features (which may extend beyond the obvious). "
I was really happy with the features I had for the first year.
"Have you tried restoring your iPhone and setting it up as new? This typically resolves most issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414"
I did that, and it still has issues. It has crashed a couple times while I wasn't using it, and it is slow. I'm always the first upgrade to new software/firmware, but I really need the phone to work.
"In regards to the poor battery life you mentioned, have you optimized your settings to counter this? Good optimization tips can be found here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html "
There is nothing groundbreaking or surprising on that page. The problem I had was 3rd party apps that continued to run after I pressed the sleep button on the phone. I can only guess that these apps have been updated. I will only find out if I start using apps again.
This problem was minor compared to the slow interface and the crashes. A crash is different from the battery going dead. When the phone crashes it can be turned on by holding down the sleep and home buttons for 10 long seconds.
I appreciate your advice. I know this phone can be wonderful. I just miss the rock solid stability I experienced before 2.0

This should get your itunes store connection working.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • ITunes wont reconize my iPod but my iPhone works fine - VISTA

I know what you are saying...go through the 5 R's and all will be well. NO, this is the weirdest thing I've ever encountered. I just got this HP Laptop a couple of months ago...it has Vista installed on it. I downloaed iTunes 7.4 when I got my iPhone and it works fine. Then I tried to plug in my iPod nano (2nd Gen) and my iPod Photo with no luck. Windows wants me to locate the drive for the ipods because it can't find one.
My Device Maganger shows the iPod under 'Other Devices' with a yellow exclamation point next to it. Needs a driver. The iPod service is running. Vista obviously thinks the iPod service and driver is just for the iPhone. Thats my guess...Apple can't figure it out...and says 'It's a Windows problem' and Windows tells me to contact Apple for a driver for the ipods.
Has anyone else solved this little problem?
Ohh....BTW, these iPods work fine on my desktop using iTunes + Windows XP. I've done ALL the reset tricks...and have restored both of them, they just won't be reconized by iTunes or Vista. Both iPods show up in Device Mgr as iPods, but under the Unknown Devices.
    Help Please....

Thanks for the reply Tony. No, the computer is brand new as is the iPhone. I did manage to solve the problem though. As I stated, the iPhone was the first thing I plugged into this new Laptop, with a fresh new copy of iTunes. The iPhone worked fine, it's the iPods that were not reconized by Vista.
Here is how I solved the problem. I removed the iPod from device mgr (Under Unknown Devices). Started up iTunes, plugged in the iPod and when Vista asked for a driver location I pointed it to the c:\Windows folder and it found the drivers. First was the USB Mass Storage Device driver, then the iPod driver, then the USBusEmumerator driver and now all is well.
It's a VISTA BUG! Once you use that USB Driver for the phone, anyother Apple product will require you to manually go into the windows folder and have Vista find it again and use it for your iPod. I wouldn't be suprised if this was done intentionally by Microsoft to try to get people to use there MP3 Players instead of Apple.

  • Iphone and Windows Vista problem

Okay, so I have windows vista and the iphone seems to be having a hard time with that.
When I plug my Iphone into my computer it recognizes the apple device and asks if I want to import picture. In itunes it shows the button that the Iphone is plugged in and synced, however, when I press that button nothing happens. I can't add any photos to it because everytime I try there is some kind of error. What can I do?

    Same exact problem!
Upon returning home after picking up the long awaited iPhone 2, I discovered that my iTunes and/or Windows Vista would not detect the iPhone, and I’ve been searching the Internet for a solution since (going on day two now). Apparently, Vista and the latest iTunes have had this problem quite a lot.
It’s really a shame, as I think Apple is missing a singular opportunity to use the iPhone as a transition drug to more Apple products. I for one have been looking for a reason to dump my Dell and pick up a MacBook Pro, and the iPhone seemed to be it.
However, if I get caught in the middle of a ******* match between Apple and Microsoft, well, they both lose.
When you spend this kind of money, it is imperative that the thing works out-of-the-box. I will never purchase a Dell again for just this reason. Now, if I purchase a Lada, well, I'm expecting to put in some hours and blood to get the thing air born, but an Apple product? No way.
Please help me become an Apple customer.

  • IPhone 4 + Tethering + VISTA = ?

Anyone have any experience with VISTA and tethering?
I have everything set up through my provider to allow the tethering - but on my GF laptop (loaded with VISTA) I cannot get the connection to happen.
I plugged my phone in here at work (Windows XP) and the drivers loaded fine (blue tethering on my iPhone screen), but for some reason it does not like that other computer.
Obviously something is influencing it, I just need to find out what.
    Anyone help out?

    Hi, thanks for the link.
Unfortunately I have already found that before I decided to post in here.
I wasnt able to find anything that helped my cause from that information.
I cannot seem to even get the blue tethering bar to appear on the phone when it is plugged in - I dont know what else could be causing the problem.
I was hoping that there were some people out there that have problems with the VISTA tethering and then were able to solve it.
Apparnetly my GF has upgraded to 4.0.2 - so I will see if that helps out at all.
    Thanks again.

  • No iPhone detected on Vista (32bit) + iTunes 9

    Hi all
I installed iTunes 9 on Vista (32bit) but it doesn't recognize the iPhone...when plugged in it's not even charging.
    Any help?
    THANKS
    Marketa

Hi dxironman - thanks for the reply. Yeah you are right, I know this is a vista issue since I got my office staff to enable my work laptop to use iTunes temporarily which uses vista business, and I did not face any of these issues there and the iPad was ready to sync there.
Now just wondering if there is a way to achieve that experience on this home laptop which has home premium on it. Buying win 7 isn't really an option I want to look at now, given a 100$ + cost associated with it.
Welcome to being directed to any other links that have workarounds for tweaking vista.

  • How do I restore my new iPhone with my old iPhones information using vista?

My old iPhones screen died and they replaced it with a new one. I went to my computer (windows vista) and registered the new iPhone, but can not find the backup from my old one. My biggest concern is retrieving my contacts. Please help.

    Window contacts or Any other
    Window based software then
    Re-sync will restore ur contacts

  • Trying to use iphone with Windows Vista

I previously owned a Macbook which I just got rid of and have decided to go back to PC after having way too many problems with my Mac. I just purchased a new laptop which runs Windows Vista.
I tried connecting my iphone to the computer and it is not being recognized.
Can anyone offer any advice on why it isn't working? (I connected my iPod which just said I had to restore before I could use which I will be doing once I'm sure all the info has been backed up)
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

  • ITunes iPhone and Windows Vista - Syncing Issue

I was trying to upload 2 new albums I have and it seems it re-synced my whole music library to my iphone.
Is there a video or something I can watch that shows how to use iTunes correctly, and to sync new songs without having to re-sync the whole entire library to my iPhone.
    Thanks.
Black MacBook, 2.0GHz Core Duo, 1GB Ram, 80GB, Superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8GB iPhone

There really isnt much to syncing music. I have read several posts of folks complaining that making a simple change to one song caused the entire library to resync.
Suggestion - turn off automatic syncing when you plug your iPhone. Then choose Sync only selected items, and then select all your music. Sync. Then make a change to one song and manually sync again. See if only that one song syncs.

  • Iphone and Windows Vista

Has this ever happend to anyone, i bought a new computer in Janaury plugged in the iphone after itunes and my ipod had already worked correctly. Then once the iphone was syncing the dreaded "blue screen" popped up. My computer crashed losing everyithing I had just put on it, after many frustrating phonoe calls to Dell, they finally sent out a new one - because nothing they did could fix it.
So here I am with this new computer it has been working fine for the past 5 months, but I am very leary about hooking up the iphone.
Should I be this nervous about hooking the iphone up? THe itunes and ipod are working just fine.
Basically I have been just using my old dog of a computer for updating the iphone software.
I guess it serves me right for not converting to an Apple/Mac!

    KTP1971,
If you get a blue screen when you connect an iPhone with pictures taken on the iPhone, it can be a conflict with the drivers for a webcam or scanner.

  • Every time I connect and disconnect my iphone/ipad windows vista opens windows media player in the background.  It then hogs all of my cpu.  Does this happen to anyone else?

I am running iOS 4.3.5 and this has been going on for months now.  I need to keep my task manager open to kill the task when I connect and disconnect my iphone or ipad.  It hogs all of my cpu, sometimes opening 2 or 3 windows media players.

Sorry, just to confirm, I DID NOT ACTUALLY ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION!
I replied to the previous message from my iphone and I managed to hit the link to "This has answered my question" by accident!
I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A RESOLUTION TO MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE ALSO NIW TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF THE GREEN TEXT TGAT SAYS TGAT MY QUESTION IS ANSWERED? That is a pain! It should at least ask you to confirm that your question is actually answered and you didn't hit it by mistake, like I did!

  • Itunes 8.2 won't connect to iphone 3g on vista 64

    Hey Guys,
Please help me out. I recently updated to itunes 8.2 and all of a sudden i can't access my iphone. it says reinstall itunes 64 version. The thing is I have repeatedly done this. even uninstalled 32 version then uninstalled and then reinstalled 64 version still the same message. i've tried everything i could find on the forum but nothing has worked. Can someone shed some light? i wish i didn't update.

    Hi bartohlowmeh,
What is the exact error message you are seeing?
Is the file that you downloaded called iTunes64Setup.exe? You can download it here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_0_2_for_Windows_64bit
If you continue to see the error after installing iTunes from the link above, the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 should resolve the issue.

  • Two iPhones - One Computer (Vista)

I bought my husband an iPhone 3GS for Christmas.
I don't mind sharing music, email, etc. However I have a lot of work contacts in my phone that shouldn't be on his phone and I don't mind sharing my calendar especially personal stuff but I'm sure he doesn't want all of my work meetings on his iPhone. I set him up with his own account but maybe I did something wrong because all of my contacts and calendar info are now in his phone.
    1. Should we use just 1 iTunes account and if so then:
    a. How do I set it up to personalize things?
    b. How do I set it up so my contacts are only in my phone & his contacts are in his phone?
    c. Is there a way where I can share specific calendar items with him?
If I should set us up on 2 iTunes account (like I did), please tell me what I did wrong that my stuff went into his phone.
    Thanks so much

I have my contacts in my personal yahoo account; he has his contacts in his phone. I have tried configuring the "sync contact with: Yahoo" under our individual accounts but whatever account I'm in, it still pulls everything from my personal yahoo account and it won't give me the option to click on selected groups. Even though I have logged into iTunes under his yahoo account and configured over to his yahoo email, it still pulls my info. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Also, we don't use MobileMe.
