Iphone 3.0 Search Oddities

Why is the iphone 3.0 search option finding emails I deleted months ago. When I do a search for any emails from my contacts it shows me old emails that I got from them at least 2 or 3 months ago that I deleted. It's even finding spam emails that I deleted as well. Anyone know why this is happening?

Yes I have the same issue. GMAIL deleted messages (as in permanently deleted, no longer in the trash folder), not on server or on iPhone are found in Search... When I select them in search, they come up as though they were within my mail application. I try to delete them again and sometimes it works, sometimes they still show up in search and nowhere else (not in trash, not in folder, not anywhere!). Clearly, they are being stored somewhere in the iPhone and come up in search-- but are available nowhere else.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the iPhone is searchiong for a network. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. There are a few steps listed in this article you did not mention trying, they may be able to help the issue.

  • HT1766 My iphone constantly says searching

I cannot make or receive calls - my phone constantly says searching. Any ideas what's wrong?

I am sure by now you have sorted your problem but if not I think I can help. For the last three weeks I have been pulling my hair out trying to solve the same problem. I tried refreshing the network connection several times. I tried a reboot by holding down the home button. I tried turning on and off airplane mode but still my iPhone 4 kept searching. It sometimes made a connection but soon lost it again. I contacted my service provider EE and after several attempts to solve the problem they sent me a new sim card but the fault was still there. Today I THINK I HAVE FIXED IT after reading the help line I connected my phone to iTunes, backed up my information on my PC then used the iTunes option to RESTORE my phone. It took ages to do and even when completed the phone still seemed to have the fault but them like magic I again reset my network connection again and hey presto since then my phone has had a constant connection. I know its early days it is Seven o'clock at night and I only did this this afternoon but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I was getting to the point where I wanted to throw my phone in the bin but now it has a new lease of life and hopefully it will last until I get a look at the new iPhone 6. My faith, at least for the moment, has been restored(quite literally) in Apple. Good luck with your problem to anyone who reads this.RB

  • IPhone 4 is searching mode. How to fix?

My iPhone went into searching mode.  Any help if this is fixable?  And what to do?

Just normal daily use.  Phone was actually idol for a bit.  I did fix it myself. Result in end after a few other things was complete back up on PC, then erasing iphone completely, and then a full restore off the PC. My provider told me it would unlikely work but did.

  • IPhone 5 always "searching"

I'm having the same problem. My iPhone 5 has been "searching" for 24 hours. During that time, I've flown to different states with someone else who has an iPhone 5 with Verizon and who has not experienced any issues at all. Given that, location can be eliminated as the potential trouble. I checked the bill...all current and paid there. The phone hasn't been damaged, dropped, or exposed to any type of trauma. I've tried reseting the network settings, restarting several times, and ejecting the sim card with no success. My iPhone is still "searching." Any advice, Verizon?

        jriphonehelp,
I'm sorry to hear you have been having trouble getting service. If you've been traveling I'm sure the last thing you want is to be without service. Let's get that working for you again! I would concur with your determination that it is not location specific. The fact that you have been in multiple locations with someone else that has no issues makes that pretty clear. As you mentioned that you checked the account and there are no issues there that brings us to the device.
Have you had any other trouble with this iPhone? Do you have any kind of case on the device? If so, could you remove the case and powercycle the device. Does service return when you power back on or does it still search for service with the case removed? You mentioned you "reset network settings," you can also "reset all settings" without it deleting anything from your phone. If the problem is still taking place once you do that I would replace the sim card. I know you have been traveling, you can find a store near you here: http://vz.to/1aDzA92 .
Hope that gets you back in business so you can focus on your trip! Let us know if there is anything else we can do to be of help.
    Sincerely,

  • My iPhone 4S keeps searching even after I took out SIM card

My iPhone 4S keeps searching for service.
    I've tried:
Taking out SIM card, then powered off my phone
    Powered off my phone
    Restarting network settings
    Restarting all settings
    Airplane mode off and on
This has been going on for about possibly two months now.
What can I do to resolve this problem?
After two weeks since this happened, I dropped my phone resulting into the back glass being cracked, and a better quality camera (haha), could this be another cause??

    The device is obviously damaged.
If it has been opened by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Center you are on your own.
If it has not been, take it to Apple for an Out of Warranty replacement.

Not necessarily but turning the router off and an isn't a good idea regardless. You're constantly losing Wi-Fi connection when the router's off.
    Try resetting your iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Iphone 5 only "searching..." no internet, no signal, no info in top left screen with data plan, etc. WHY???

Everything was fine with my phone just a few hours ago.  Then I got home from our Father's Day bash and found my phone to be "searching..." with no internet connection, no ability to text or call anyone, and everything I've tried as far as troubleshooting does nothing.  I went on my iPad to see if that was okay and it was so I used that to look up what the deal was with my phone and tried all the other troubleshooting fixes listed--nothing worked.  So now I'm back at my parents' house (I have no computer at my home to connect my phone to iTunes) and it says in order to restore my phone I need to turn of Find My Phone under iCloud, but for whatever reason my password wasn't being accepted.  I went onto the computer to change it thinking that would help so I could finally get the ball rolling here, but I didn't think about the fact that the internet is not connected on my phone so the new password I changed it to on the computer won't take on my f-ing phone.  I'm completely lost now with no other ideas for what else I can do and I need my phone because it is literally my only contact method to the outside world--I have no landline to make calls in case of emergency.  I've never had this problem before and the fact that my phone was working perfectly fine just a couple of hours ago is frustrating the crap out of me.  Does anyone have any ideas/help for me to get around this whole iCloud thing so I can try and restore my phone and see if my connection comes back?  I have the 4-person family data plan through AT&T and it's never failed me yet in the nearly 15+ years we've been contracted with them.

Log in to icloud.com on a computer and you can turn off Find My iPhone there.

  • Iphone 5 keeps searching network problem....

My iphone 5 today suddenly started started searching network,
I took out the SIM card , it still kept searching for network instead of saying no sim or no service.
I reset network settings, then all settings, turned phone on off several times, put back sim in, hard reset it etc.
I haven't restored it from itunes that I will do next but I am wondering if any one had simlar problem.
Taking SIM card out should changed it to no sim or no service but it doesn't do that so that is weird. It doesn't matter which location because I was in my car when it started searching and I came back home still the same.
Another thing is it doesn't give me an option to select carrier manually as that option has disappeared from the settings.

Well I had the exact same problem with my Iphone 5s, I tried many things such as turning the airplane mode on/off, restarting the device and also did a network settings reset. Nothing helped.
The next thing I did was to do a general reset via iTunes to factory settings (Made a backup first. Very important if you can connect to iTunes, it's a MUST). When the phone booted-up again, I had to ''activate the phone. But to activate it, I needed a connection with a network. But that was the whole problem so I was stuck and couldn't do anything with the device.
So I called the Apple support centre. We tried a few things, they all dindn't work. The last option (which worked for me) was to do a recovery (I have no idea what this reset is called)  via the device+ iTunes.
To perform the reset, please follow these steps and hopefully it will work for you as well.
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Connect your USB cable to the computer, NOT to your device yet.
    3. Power Off your device, and be sure that it is Off.
    4. Press the home and hold it.
    5. Connect the USB cable to your phone. You will see a iTunes logo on your device, you can release the home button.
    6. Do a recovery via iTunes. iTunes will now recover the phone.
If it doesn't work the first time, try again. I had to do it twice and luckily it worked the second time.
I hope that this will help, Good luck!
