IPhone 3G 16GB will not boot.

OK, trying this question again in the right section. :P
Well I have a 16GB iphone 3G here in my hand that is stuck in a repeating reboot and will not boot up
Long story short, I don't know if the handset previously worked. it was handed to me and i received a "I bet you cant fix this" from a work colleague.
Well I have downloaded the 2.2.1 firmware on windows and Mac and tried to install it.
"iTunes can not connect to the iPhone (error 1600)"
Tried again in DFU mode and clicked restore on 2.2.1 and same error message but this time it was error 1601
Tried a fresh install. Downladed iTunes 8 on Mac AND windows,
Placed the handset into restore mode on both machines and downloaded 2.2.1 again.
This time the firmware package opens and tries to send to the iPhone but I get the
"cant connect to the iphone or the iphone failed to respond (error 23)"
what else can I do to try and get the handset operating again?
The handset has NEVER been abused or dropped and its been sitting in its box for a while and looks to me like an out of box failure. There is not a mark on it, Even still covered in the plastic the iPhone comes with when you first take it out of the box.
Anyone else got some ideas to get this thing up and running?
Cheers.
(oh and PS, I have another iPhone that works 100% on all machines so its not hardware faults on the computer/cables end.
Cheers.
PS called Apple Tech support and they dont have 1600, 1601 and 23 errors in their data base to give me a explanation on what they mean.. Woot!

No unfortunatly. when the handset is on the dock or other usb charger the handset will display the Apple logo like its going to boot. 2 min later the handset will automatically restart and do the whole thing over again. OR sometimes the screen will go dark like the LED is off, but you can only faintly see the Apple logo.
I have been back on the phone to apple tech support and she again could not help me fix the issue. (altho all we did was basic trouble shooting like I already have)
The handset seems to display Error 23 alot now.
itunes will ONLY recognize the handset in DFU mode, then when I do a force restore, it will fail with error 23.
If i plug the handset into iTunes like normal, The iphone will only boot and reboot, iTunes will not pick it up.
The handset has been on charge or connected to power all day.
wow... what an annoying problem

  • My iPhone 4 16GB will not turn on

I have had my iPhone 4 for approximately 1 year and a half. I've had no other issues with it until now, my initial thoughts is that the iPhone's battery may need replacing.
    The issue:
My iPhone turned it's self off yesterday, on the initial reboot it came up with the 'iOS6 installation' and prompted me to connect the device to iTunes. However within 20 seconds of this displaying, the iPhone turned it's self off again. So I left it on charge overnight and once again this morning I tried to turn it back on however this time the device just shows the Apple logo on start up and then turns off and repeats the same process.
What I have tried so far is the home button and sleep/wake button method of restarting the phone. It does exactly the same, the apple logo appears then turns its self off.
So if you can offer any more advice on how to fix this please let me know.
    - Ryan

    Try recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still dont see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

    Hi JACOBfromINSIDEaLION,
If you are unable to get your iPhone to restore, you will want to perform a restore from recovery mode, as explained in the following article:

  • My father's iphone will not boot. We live in Barbados but the phone was bought in the US. Is there any way to fix this, or does he need a new phone, and is this covered by warranty?

My father has owned his iphone for almost exactly 9 months. The phone was purchased in the US when he was on holiday. We live in Barbados, but the phone should still be under warranty. (please correct me if I'm wrong). He says the phone will not boot, it is inconsistent with showing how much battery life it has and it keeps looping because it's always trying to reboot. He treats his electronics very well and the phone is in perfect condition. Is there any way that this can be fixed without him losing all the information on the phone? Or can he get a replacement phone (due to the warranty issue)?

Have you tried any basic troubleshooting
    restart
    reset
    Restore

    Hi battye,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
In this situation where your iPhone will not start up past the Apple logo, there are several troubleshooting steps I would recommend. Please use the attached article as a reference to troubleshoot.

If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Obviously since you have iOS 7 you're a developer.  As a developer, you signed a NDA with Apple not to discuss the iOS on a public forum.  Please log in to the Developer Forum using your credentials and ask for help there, lest you risk having your credentials terminated.

It rained in my window last night, on my power strip.  My macbook adaptor (charger) and iphone adaptor were both plugged into the strip.  The power strip is dead.  Iphone is fine.  Macbook will not boot up and charger light doesn't go on. I borrowed another charger and still no luck.  What should I do?  (Charger wasn't plugged into Macbook until I dried it off.)

    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • Iphone 4 will not boot up, the apple logo does not go away

The phone will not boot up, the apple logo stays on and does not finish booting.  All I did was delete an app, I went to reboot the phone becasue it was running slow and now it wont boot up at all.  I've tried the hard reset and nothing

And then if that fails try this:
What is DFU: Device Firmware Upgrade
Step 1: Turn off your iPod touch / iPhone completely and connect to PC / mac
Step 2: Hold down the Power button for 3 seconds
Step 3: Without releasing the power button, also hold the Home button for 10 seconds
Step 4: Without releasing the home button, release the power button and keep holding the Home button  for 20 seconds.
Itunes will identify that you are in DFU mode.

  • IPhone 3G stuck at the Apple logo screen; will not boot!

My iPhone 3G has been working all day. I rebooted it because it was hanging when trying to use some apps, and now it's hung at the Apple logo. It will not boot fully. I have tried to reboot the phone many times but I get the same problem. I let it sit there for 30 minutes and it does nothing.
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it without doing a Restore?
    Ethan

Oh, they know! I've had all of the above issues, tried every and all remedies several times, even uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. My phone froze up totally for over 24 hours after several attempts to sync and itunes closed then I had to reset, not even an apple logo, just a dim lit screen. Went to the genius bar, they replaced my phone. The tech said apple knows and is working on it.
Note: tried to book an appointment online, none available so I went and signed the standby list.
Luckily someone didn't show up, because they said some people wait for hours.
The new one is doing the same thing. I have yet to sync fully. my contacts & calendar sync OK, a few apps, beyond that nothing-no music, photos, podcasts, ringtones. Itunes hangs during syncing an application and iphone times out. the only option is to close itunes and reset the phone. Upon fully reset, maybe 1 or 2 apps are installed, nothing else. Resetting takes forever, it has frozen again with the apple logo for about 12 hours, and usually about 10-30 min each reset. I have restored the new one twice. Problem is, when it freezes up or times out, itunes won't recognize the iphone at all, it says no iphone detected.
I am now going to restore the phone again, and not attempt to install any apps until this issue is resolved. I have already spent hours on this, and really tried everything. I would rather have my music, ringtones, photos, podcasts etc than a few apps. Shame, because i've spend at least $50 in addition to numerous free apps.
Side note: I scheduled another appointment at the genius bar when my phone was out of commission for 12 hours, they are booked for three days in advance so the issue is still widespread. Luckily I was able to finally get itunes to recognize my phone and restore.

Add me to the list of people furious with Apple about this problem...
...I have just got back from a 2 week holiday in Spain, and on day 3 of the holiday my iPhone rebooted itself and stuck at the Apple logo.
What's more annoying, I'd purchased a data abroad plan from o2 for £50 and hardly used it because I couldn't use my iPhone because it was stuck on the **** Apple logo. o2 will not refund the plan I purchased because I had started to use it (about 2.3MB to be precise).
Good job my girlfriend had her trusty Sony Ericsson phone because at least it WORKS as a phone, unlike this **** iPhone 3G which only has one use - as an expensive paperweight.
Come on Apple, at least admit there is a problem and show your loyal customers that you are actually aware there is a serious problem that is causing your iPhones to become utterly useless.
I'm seriously thinking of gettting rid of this iPhone and getting a cheap no frills phone - at least I can use it to make calls.

Unfortunately, you can't restore an iCloud backup without using wifi so that isn't an option.

Did the problems start after upgrading the OS? If so you could try:
    a) Re-applying the update using the 'combo', if you haven't already. The combo contains all revisions to the OS since 10.8.0 in one update package and sometimes helps resolve odd behaviour after an update.
    or
    b) completely re-install the OS using the Recovery HD (re-installing the OS won't delete you data):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Whatever you decide to do, ensure you have up-to-date tested backup of all your data by way of Time Machine or a clone. I doubt you'll need it, but it's an essential requirement so that you can roll back to a previous state in the unlikely event of things going wrong.

  • 2009 Mac Pro will not boot up under Windows

I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro system (Mac Pro 4,1) and I've had this system for 3 years already and have been working under OS X with this system ever since I purchased it.
However, when I tried to boot off my Windows disk, something very interesting happens. The Mac Pro WILL NOT boot up off the Windows disk or a known working Windows partition if two monitors are connected. Upon holding down the option key and selecting the Windows partition, I will get a black screen on one monitor (the one connected via Mini Displayport) and the other screen receives no signal and will enter standby and the system is halted. It does not respond to keystrokes, there is no hard drive activity, no measured power increase on the UPS, no apparent network activity, nothing. The only way to exit this scenario (from what I can tell) is to power off the machine, disconnect the display on DVI, power on the machine again, select the Windows partition wait for the system to reach the login window and reconnect the DVI monitor (at which time Windows recognizes it immediately and the system works fine again).
My question to the community is, does anybody know why this is happening and is there a known fix for this? Quite frankly, having to disconnect a monitor just to restart is very tedious and frustrating.
I have two Samsung P2350 monitors attached to an ATI Radeon HD 4870 (512MB, from Apple). One is monitor is connected via directly DVI and the other is using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter. Both monitors work fine under OS X with no issue. At first, I thought that this may be a driver issue on the Windows side and after installing all the latest updates and drivers the issue is still apparent. From what I can tell, this doesn't seem like a software issue but rather a firmware or EFI issue as this happens before Windows even loads.
If anyone knows of a fix or what to do in this situation, or if you are also having this issue, I would love to hear your input!
    Thank you!
For the record, I am running all the latest software builds on the OS X side (10.7.4, not that it would really matter at this point). I have also disconnected all unnecessary equipment in a trial and error scenario but the results are still the same.
The system passes all ASD testing.
The full specification of the computer and all connected equipment are as follows:
    2009 Mac Pro (4,1) 8-Core
    2x Intel Xeon Nehalem 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPUs
    16GB DDR3 ECC 1066MHz RAM (Apple Branded)
Two OWC 120GB SSDs (One for OS X, the other for Windows 7 x64) - These are in place of my optical drives.
4x 2TB WD Black Hard drives for storage.
Two Samsung P2350 Monitors connected via DVI. (One using a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter).

In Windows I am using the latest (12.4) Catalyst Software Suite, 64 bit of course, downloaded directly from AMD's site after installing the drivers from Boot Camp.
As for installing Windows I used an original (not burned) installation media (Disk is in a pristine condition). And yes, Windows is fine, the problem just seems to be getting the system to boot up Windows with that second monitor. However if the "problem monitor" is disconnected the system boots fine 100% of the time and connecting it later after booting the system will still operate properly.
For the sake of arguement I swapped monitor cables and connected the "second" monitor to the mini displayport adapter to verify that it wasn't a cabling issue and I'm still yielding the same issues.
As for GPU testing, I've played games (Crysis, Grand Theft Auto IV, Battlefield 3, etc.) and I've had no issues with the card or stability.
You would think that Apple would try to find a fix for this, especially considering the caliber of this machine.

  • Help!  My iPod touch 2G will not boot up!

My iPod touch 2G will not boot.
Heres the specs of the problem:
It turns on with an Apple logo with a spinning wheel under it.
I have tried editing the hosts file with the Apple server codes.
I have tried restoring 16 times. (I log what I do on it)
The iPod has never been jailbroken.
    It is an MC model.
    It is 8GB.
Its formated for Windows. (Windows 7)
    iTunes 10.4
I have tried "The Tiny Umbrella TSS Server with SHSH blobs for iOS 4.1"
    I tried "RecBoot" no luck.
My Mom will kill me if I can't fix this.  I am going on a 9 hour vacation ride with 7 year old brothers that get really cranky.  I leave August 6th, 2011.  So I need to have it fixed before then. So i really, really, really need help!

Try uninstalling iTunes and installing the 10.4 iTunes that came out a few days ago.  Click start, run and paste "%Userprofile%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates" without quotes.  Find iPod2,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw and delete it.  Try restoring again and Tiny Umbrella is only for iPhones.  Do not use it on iPod Touch or various errors appear.  iPod Touches can downgrade at any time (idk about iOS 5).  If it doesn't work, reply.  :)
