IPhone 3G - 2.1 issue - increased battery drain, warm to the touch

Hello,
I updated to the iPhone 2.1 firmware on Saturday. The new software has resolved quite a few issues from my perspective, however I was disappointed to discover what appears to be a fairly serious problem. After roughly an hour, my phone becomes warm to the touch, and something appears to begin draining the battery. I can no longer go for a full business day - 8 hours - on a full charge.
Has anyone else seen this?

Try turning off location services. Under 2.0.x that used to kill my battery in a few hours.
One other thing that has appeared. If you have a wifi only mail server (i.e. one that cannot be accessed unless you are within wifi range of a specific network, i.e. your work wifi) then it will kill the battery doing fetch email as well when the phone is asleep (wifi is turned off when the phone sleeps leaving only your mobile phone providers data connection to get your email). This is because it will keep trying to setup a fetch connection over your phone providers data link and it keeps failing and retrying.
I had to do a clean re-install to upgrade to 2.1 because I had loads of problems with the upgrade. Now with email set to manual I can go 2-3 days without a recharge with usages of about an hour or 2 each day.

Does anyone know if the iOS6.1 does anything to remedy the increased battery drain on iPhone 4s that was presented with iOS6.0?

I upgraded to ios 6.1 when it first came out a couple of weeks ago and in the last 2 days am experiencing rapid battery drain...not sure if that's the cause.

  • IPhone 5s IOS 8.1.1 battery drain using mail

Problem: battery drain is unacceptably high with -1% per five minutes
Description: after upgrading from IOS 7 to 8 the battery drain on my iPhone 5s (32GB) has hugely increased. Several tips on the internet have been tried from turning off several services to reinstalling the IOS none with no improvement. After reinstallation the drain was acceptable only to result in again a -1% drain per five minutes after a week.
Expected: using IOS 7 I could easily use the iPhone throughout the whole day with -1% per fifteen minutes. After installing an improved IOS one would expect similar or lower battery drain
Tests: as said, severals tips found on the internet have been tested none with any improvement. Deleting all accounts under "Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars" proved to be the only solution for this problem (a non-functional solution I must add since I'm using this iPhone for communication...). Even keeping the iCloud account but disabling all iCloud services did not improve the situation, only a real account deletion worked.
Question: do you know how to get battery drain back to -1% per fifteen minutes whilst maintaining my iCloud and Exchange account using IOS 8.1.1 on an iPhone 5s (32GB)?
    Kind regards,
    Ronald

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, my battery has not been the same. I was able to get 9-10 hours of usage before and am lucky to get 6-7 hours. AppleCare thought that was on the low side and told me to visit my local Apple Store for a thorough diagnostic testing of the battery. My appointment is tomorrow. Will report back.

  • HT4623 iPhone 4 upgraded to IOS 6 - battery drains quickly - can anyone help me?

I have just upgraded the operating system software in my iPhone 4 to IOS 6.0 (10A403). Since that time, the battery has been draining rather rapidly. With only the phone in standby, wi'fi off, the battery gets extremely warm to the touch. When I come out of standby, you can almost watch the battery capacity drop at about 10% in 3 or 4 minutes.
I have tried dpoing a backup to my computer, then a restore with a re-synch. This gained me a bit more memory space, and the battery went from 100% down to 28% in the period of 7 hours. No calls were made or received.
I am preplexed and hope someone has some idea of where I should start looking.
    Thanks.

  • Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?

Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?

I have had the same problem but I seem to be getting somewhere to fixing it!!! My battery was going down at 20% an an hour now its 10% with constant use and 5 in standby !!! So improvement all round
First I did a restore then I drained the battery i started to charge it and when it came on I turned the phone off completely and let it charge to 100% I then left it for a couple of hours on charge at 100. I saw no improvement after 1st drain so I repeated the drain battery and charge steps again with the phone turned off when charging and have seen a very big improvement. I am going to do it again tonight and hopefully problem solved!!!!
The next issue is iMessage as that's playing up and wifi drop out
    Good luck

Double tap with THREE fingers to turn zoom off. Then, go into Settings>General>Accessibility and turn it off for good.

  • Iphone 4 Phone App White Screen/Battery Draining Fast

I have an iPhone 4 with the most recent version of the software.  For the second time in about 5 weeks, my phone app has completely stopped working and only shows a white screen when entering.  I can still receive calls however.  The only way I could fix it before was a complete system restore, which was horrible.  My battery drains really quickly and the iphone gets really hot.  The system restore seemed to fix it for a few weeks last time.  I tried hard resets, soft resets, and everything in between. A friend of mine had the same issue with his phone.
    Any ideas?

I did some research.  I deleted my exchange account from work and it appeared to have fixed the problem.

  • IPhone 5S Battery drains quickly, even the phone in standby

I got iPhone 5S at the end of November. I was a happy customer until 35 days.
My phone battery started draining with no reason. It just drains, even if you keep the phone in stand by mode. I am scared to answer phones, browse internet or access apps, since it drains the battery. I went to downtown with no car charger with 65% left on my batter at 5:00 PM. I just kept my phone in car and used the Viber to send 5 text messages, one phone call. By 8:30 PM we return back home, the battery is 0%.
I took appointment with "GENIOUS BAR". When I went there, a lady attended me, and she diagnosed my phone and said, my batter is perfectly good .. and yeah.. GOOD NEWS.. She also, says .. she dont have replace my batter since her diagnose told her that the batter is good.. YA.. YA.. all happies..
Now, I asked, then why my batter is just draining, she said, it is because I have some crashed apps like Facebook, safari, youtube, viber, casino app etc. She said, restarting the phone also doesn't work since the crashed apps just drains the battery. I said, wow.. that is great, you found the issue.. Now, what is the solution, since we know the problem.
She said, she has to erase the iPhone and format as a new phone. She asked me if I backed up the data. I know, this will happpen, so I said, I already backed up the data. Now, she erase the iPhone and reboots the phone.. and says.. YOUR PROBLEM FIXED.. Go home and sleep happily.
I was very happy.. my batter was at 20% when I was in the store 6:00 PM. The drive from apple store to my home is 15 minutes. I drove back and by the time I reach home, my batter is 5%. Ohh.. I forgot, I used my phone once while coming back home telling my wife that my battery issue is fixed.
Now, is my battery issue fixed?? NO
Does apple GENIOUS know about the problem?? NO
I still have this issue.. carrying apple chargers.. everywhere I go..
Way to GO APPLE.. best customer service support.. I ever got. .

I had this EXACT same experience. Went to the Apple Store and they told me to do the same thing. So I did a full restore on Friday night. No new apps, no email account set up, push turned off, no texts, no phone calls, connected to wifi. This is how my battery life worked out doing nothing but sitting unplugged on standby at home.
    Jan 10, 11:06 PM - 100% battery
    Jan 11, 3:12 AM - 81%
    Jan 11, 3:46 AM - 77%
    Jan 11, 4:16 AM - 73%
    Jan 11, 5:19 AM - 65%
At 5:40 AM, because I thought I had thoroughly proved my case (taking screen shots of my battery status), I did a full restore of my most recent backup. Took it into the Apple Store today, and they said the same thing. Battery looks fine, it's not a hardware problem. Because I did a full backup restore, they can't see anything wrong with my phone. The screenshots I took of my battery levels after doing a full restore? Irrelevant. Doesn't prove anything. They use a diagnostic app that looks at the battery usage history of my phone, and since I restored the old backup at 5:40 AM, they don't have any data corresponding to my screenshots. They recommended I do a full restore again and operate for a few weeks to see how it goes. What about my old text messages that I refer to, my contacts, my notes, my call history? Too bad.
At this point, I feel less like a customer and more like a lawyer who has to prove my case in a hearing at the Court of Apple. I have to gather the evidence, then make my case. But why does the burden of proof fall to me, the customer? I recognize that they want to prevent fraud or stupid user error, but this is ridiculous.
The whole "use it for two weeks then come back" make me think they're really saying "use it for two weeks and hopefully Apple will have released an iOS update by then that fixes the problem--either that or you'll give up and stop bothering us". You know what? It's working. I'm just about ready to drop the issue, wait for iOS 7.1 to be released in March 2014, and hope that there have been enough complaints like this for them to address the problem, if it is truly a software problem.

  • Iphone 6, iOS 8.0.2, battery drain & overheating

So I upgraded to an iphone 6 from an iphone 5. The phone came with iOS 8.0.2. It seems that I am not the only one with this issue but my my phone gets hot after a short use and battery drains rather quickly. It seems to be a software issue since many people are exhibiting the same symptoms. My battery usage shows that the Home & Lock Screen ate up 26% of the battery and my settings ate up 22%. That seems a tad high. Battery is at 84% after 56 min usage and 4 hr 14 min at standby. Note this is on the initial charge after transferring my data from the iphone 5 to the iphone 6. Battery has not fully drained yet. What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

I have a similar problem on my 5s. Since updating it has stopped allowing me to send texts to my wive, but will accept them and allows calls.
I must add that I can text her when on wifi, and also from my mac, but when on 4g?
    Any ideas?

  • Since I downloaded iOS 6 I have noticed increased battery drain.

I have an iPhone 4.  Since I have downloaded iOS6 I have noticed significant increase in battery drain.  Anyone know what is different in iOS6 that would cause it.  If so, any ideas what I can do, if anything, to reduce the drain.

Since I downloaded ios 6 I now have to have wifi to get into iTunes and my purchased items
And that is the way it has always worked - unless you were accessing iTunes on your computer with an Ethernet connection to the Internet. Otherwise, on an iDevice, you must have access to WiFi or be using a cellular 3G/4G iPad in order to access anything in iTunes.

  • Will iOS7.1 Increase Battery Drain?

    Good Day!
I am currently using iPhone 5S running iOS7.0.4 and I am very impressed with it's battery life.
I have seen some company of mine who experienced increase in battery drain , and people on the internet who experienced the same problem too.
Would You please state the Negative Effects of updating to iOS7.1
Do You think I Should Update?
I update via iTunes; Advised by Apple experts.

I personly, am running iOS 7.1 on an iPhone 5s.  I have not seen any decrease in battery life.  HOWEVER, there are many posts in the forum where people are not happy after updating.  Once you update, there is NO going back.  So, if you are happy with what you have, leave it.  If you want the security fixes and other benefits of updating to 7.1, update.
Read the forums, use the internet.  Make your choice.

  • Iphone OS crashed after a complete battery drain.

    Hi,
A few days back my iphone battery drained completely (the phone switched off) with the daily usage. Once I plugged it to the power supply, the apple logo screen appeared after an initial few mins charge but then it halted to the gray screen...and then its stuck there.
After several attempts of reset and charging... the iphone OS refuses to proceed further with the boot.
Any clues what has gone wrong?
    and How to fix it?
    regards,
    Asim.

Define what "a while" is. How long did you leave it plugged in before your tried to start it?
Also, you can try a reset: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen redisplays you should be all set.
    Cheers,

  • IPhone 4s battery drain: one of the reasons

    Hi All!
I found one of the reason of battery drainage. I'm sure by 100% and that's why:
Since the day 1 I have very good battery life: about 0.3-0.5% battery off during standby, charge needed 1 per 2 days etc. Nothing to complain. It was during 2 months already. Most of things on.
I use the iPhone with 2 simcards and change it about twice a month. Today morning I did the next exchange. I put in the same card I mostly use. I was in a car and plug the iPhone to charger. I found that the phone became unusual warm during charge and most strange that it became warm near the sim-slot.
I charged it for 100% and unplug. And I was wondered - the battery drained to 1% within 6 hours! It was a 15 hours drive so I had time. I charge the iPhone for 25% and was noticed then that discharge was about 1% every 3-4 minutes. AND! The sim slot still little bit warm.
At home I take the SIM away and went to sleep with 55% of charge. After 6 hours of dreams I got 52% - about 0.5% per hour as usual.
I put the SIM back but clean it (by ditry t-shirt honestly). And now the discharge is normal again and nothing warm.

2 days battery back up with iphone 4S ??? looks like you don't even use your phone. but keep it for show off. well better sell it and buy a basic phone just to keep it with you and make 1 call per day.

  • IPhone 6 Plus & iOS 8.1 Battery Drain...

    Hey,
    i have 6plus 64gb, and installed new 8.1 ios.
i noticed clearly that the battery drains so fast. (Like %33 reduction)
After take a look at another iphone user's forums, too many people complain about the battery.
    submitted for your information.

In most cases the problems when switching to a new iOS version are (as I had with my switch from iOS6 > iOS7):
    - rogue app process (app not updated yet to iOS8/8.1) check Settings > General > Usage > Battery usage in percentage to determine which app is using much more battery although you haven't used it at all or much.
    - settings in e-mail receiving is changed
    - background app refresh (turn it off if you do not need it)
    - location services (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
    - notifications (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
    - Facebook app
See also this great article about this.

  • IPhone 4 Shuts Off repeatedly and battery drains after ios7 update

This morning at 5:20 am, my alarm went off on my iphone like normal, I plugged my 100% battery charged iphone out of its charger and within 30 seconds it turned off. I quickly plugged it back in the charger and it dropped to 41%. Then as I had to start my morning and get to work and take the phone again out of its charger, it died again. So I got to work, and I have put my phone to "charge" while plugged to the charger, but as time passes, instead of charging my battery it looses life, then I recieved a notification to update my phone, which I did however this did not help my phone, it still continues to turn off once I plug the phone  out of the charger.

Same here. My ipad mini used to last weeks, now I can barely get a full day out of it, after I finally updated to ios7. And yes I disabled every possible battery drainer I could find and rebooted. This is clearly to me a bug for the mini, possibly their code that drains batteries on older devices to force people to buy new hardware is running faster than it used to when it would only kill your battery twice as fast, perhaps something else I would hope, but I'm about to hack my device and return to ios 6 as this is absurd. I can put my ipad down for a few hours and pick it up with a 5% drain or overnight with a 70% drain.
