Iphone 3g and BMW

I have the new 3g iphone and although it has paired OK with my BMW, the address book doesn't display in the car. I didn't have this problem with my original iphone.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

upon reading other forums it seems that most cars pre september 2007 have the same problem with the new iphone 2.0 software !
I have reported it to apple in the bug reporting sheet............

  • IPhone and BMW

I use my IPhone in my BMW 5 Series all the time. Bluetooth works great. IPod works great. I plug it into the USB and AUX ports in the car. Problem: It doesn't seem to charge when it is plugged in, especially if I am using it for music and/or navigation functions. If I plug it into the cig lighter it charges fine, but of course the music and speaker functions do not work. On a long drive, listening to music and making occasional calls (and searching for service in rural areas) it will run down entirely. Seems like it should have plenty of power to "do" anything if it is plugged in. Suggestions?

You need the snap in adapter, this will charge your phone, play music etc etc, it also uses the cars shark fin to improve phone signal too.

  • Iphone and BMW 7 series

Anyone pair the iPhone with a 7 series BMW?
Two questions: what is the passkey number?
How does it handle phonebook entries from outlook contacts? Does it pick up all entries? I have hundreds! Or can it just pick up favorities?

My wife has a 2002 7 series with the BTUM upgrade. The iphone works and syncs with it, though it does take a minute or two to pair each time she starts the car. She has about 80 contacts that transfer without a hitch. The in dash keyboard works fine, as does the car's speakerphone. On her unit, the bluetooth module is in the cradle located in the center console. There is a blue illuminated button for pairing. The passkey is printed on a sticker on the reverse side of the button. HTH

  • HT204387 I have a new Iphone 5 and my bluetooth capabilty with my Mercedes E550 is not working for text messaging.  Mercedes says it's a phone issue.  Has anyone else experienced this and did you find a solution?

Iphone 5 bluetooth texting is not working in my Mercedes E550; Mercedes says it's a phone issue.  Any ideas or suggestions?

If your question regards the ability of your Mercedes to access the text messages in your phone, the most likely answer is that your vehicle's audio system does not support the Message Access Profile. This Bluetooth profile was adopted in June of 2009, which means that Mercedes Benz wasn't implementing this capability mid-year.
Your Merc simply will not be able to access those messages.
If the dealer can do an update of the Firmware, it might improve the capability. But the expense of that might outweigh the ability to gain access to your texts. This is to say that there is even an upgrade possible. This is a major addition to the Bluetooth capabilities.
FWIW, up until recently, most cars havn't had this capability. The earliest adopters were Ford and BMW.

  • Ios8 with iphone 6 in BMW 2011 323i - plugged in

when i plug in my iphone and am listening to a song and i receive a message/text, i bounces out of music mode, and goes to the radio on the bmw. it is like it stops the music program on the iphone, the car doesn't know what to do, and then reverts back to default, which is the radio.

I have a similar problem with iPhone 6 and OS 8.0.2. My older iPhone 5 and OS 7.1 had no problems. I am not using the later Combox ConnectedDrive w/ USB, but the legacy 30pin interface w/ lightning to 30pin accessory, with the BMW supplied Y-cable with my MY2010 CIC equipped vehicle.
I can't start / stop playback or play a track listed.  It is actually listing the tracks out though.
Tried unplugging / replugging phone, adapter, restarting CIC headunit (holding volume for 20 seconds), switching inputs, killing all apps. Only thing that seems to temporarily resolve it is hard restart of phone.
    I reported feedback to Apple.

  • IOS6.1 and BMW X5 Bluetooth problem

Couldn't find any result of Google so here I go:
iPhone 4S and recently updated iOS 6.1 WILL NOT pair with 2011 BMW X5. The phone worked fine with my car bluetooh until I upgraded it to iOS 6.1. It will trying to pair for a few second then saying that "make sure the car's bluetooth is on or in range" I was sitting in the car! My other iPhone that is running iOS5.0.1 successfully paired with the X5.
I know for sure this MUST BE iOS6 issue because the same phone (iOS6.1) successfully paired with my 2007 BMW 328i.
Anyone else has the same issue since updating to iOS6.1?
    Pleaase fix this Apple.

Never mind. I ended up deleting the pairing from both phone and car. Fixed.

  • Charging is not supported with this accessory iPhone 5 and lighting adapter

I just received my 30 pin lighting adapter for my iPhone 5 and connected it to my existing BMW (2008 335i) factory 30 pin cable.
The battery changes to the charge symbol for a few seconds and then I get a error on my phone that says "charging is not supported with this accessory".
Other than that I am able to search and play music from my phone through my car's audio system without isssue.
I have had this car for 4 years and used it with my 3rd generation iPod touch without issue. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing
charging issues with the new adapter and their exisiting setups,

I purchased the following adapter from Amazon for my 2009 335i, and all functions (including charging) work fine on my iPhone 5:

  • HT1222 Is anyone having problems with iPhone Bluetooth to BMW s since iOS 6.1

Is anyone having problems with iPhone Bluetooth to BMW s since iOS 6.1?

Yes. I had an iPhone 3G and when upgraded to 6.1 the bluetooth connectivity failed progressively and eventually the phone just wouldn't connect. I broke and reestablished the pairing am few times and each time it would work for a while then disconnect to the extent I thought the bluetooth hardware in the car was failing. I then got an iPhone 5 and the same issue remained. In the last few days I've paired an old Blackberry with the car kit to rule out the BMW hardware. Blackberry is fine so it has to be iOS incompatibility.

  • IPhone 3G in BMW X5.

iPhone 3G in BMW X5. Up to a year ago I could see all my contacts through the screen in the car, but now I can only see them up to the letter "M". BMW say Apple will need to change the software. Has anyone else had/solved this issue? Many thanks to anyone that can help!!!

    No help, anyone ?
It feels such a waste to have a perfectly usable and amazing (though apparently obsolete) phone which can't be used for a tiny little bug when it's not connected to the charging station :C

  • Iphone connection to bmw bluetooth

i have just connected iphone to bmw idrive.this works but there is no contact list when trying to dial.this was always available on other phones nokia blackberry.i have to dial from phone
    any tips

It looks like there is a problem with the 3G Iphone running 2.02 and BMW's older than September 2007.
Apple is blaming BMW and BMW are blaming Apple. As my car has bluetoothed perfectly with several makes of phone I believe that this is an Apple problem. The fact that many people had the early Iphones working up to firmware 1.14 seems to indicate that it is indeed an Apple problem with the newer versions of firmware.
HOPEFULL APPLE WILL PROVIDE A FIX SOON !

  • IMessage on iPad and iPhone Explained and De-Mystified

Apple's much-anticipated iOS5 has a lot of cool features, one of which is the iMessage platform.  What I've discovered is a lot of confusion among the masses on how this platform works.  I, myself, have been confused on how to set this up so that I can maintain iMessage convos on both my iPad2 and iPhone.  Last night, I set out to figure this all out and post my findings here.  What I am about to outline has worked for me and I feel is the way Apple intended it to work.  For good or bad, I don't plan to discuss the merits of how Apple has designed this platform.  I am simply sharing what has worked for me.
In order for me to test my theories I used my iPad 2, iPhone 4S and my wife's iPad and iPhone 4.  This allowed me to test the iMessage platform as if I were messaging one of my contacts who I know had installed iOS5 but theoretically doesn't live under my roof, so to speak.  My example will center around my particular situation:  someone who has both an iPad (or other non-iPhone device) and an iPhone 4S (or 4 or 3GS) AND wants to keep iMessage convos in sync across all my devices.  After all, this is one of the main benefits of iMessage that Apple touts.
First and foremost, it is important to activate iMessage on all your iOS5 devices using the same Apple ID.  This will "link" all your iOS5 devices in the Apple ecosystem and keep convos you initiate in sync across your iOS5 devices.  Some of you may run into a situation like I did where our PRIMARY Apple ID is the one we use as a family to purchase music, apps, etc.  In the case of iMessage, every family member should have their own unique Apple ID (a secondary ID to your primary ID) to use on their own iOS5 devices.  This will keep all your iMessages separate and distinct from other family members' iMessage convos.  The next important setting, and the one that causes a lot of confusion, is the "Receive At" setting.  On your iPhone this is your cell phone number, by default.  You will also want to add an e-mail address as another "Receive At" location.  If you have an iPad or other non-iPhone iOS5 device, you will want to choose an e-mail address (on my devices my Apple ID is the same as my e-mail address I am using on the "Receive At" setting) as your "Receive At" setting.  The important thing to note is that if you have both an iPhone and iPad (or any other non-iPhone device) you will want to use the same e-mail address on both devices.  This will help keep your convos that others have initiated to you in sync across your iOS5 devices.  Finally, the Caller ID is the next setting to consider.  You have two options here:  (1) your cell number, or (2) the e-mail address you entered in the step above.  Your choice depends on how you want others to see your contact info and whether or not keeping convos in sync across your iOS5 devices is important.  My example below will illustrate this.
    EXAMPLE:
Keeping messages in sync across my devices is important so I have provided my Apple ID that I used above to all my contacts who use iOS5 devices and I have asked them to use this to iMessage me.  This is the only way that an iMessage convo initiated by one of your contacts to you will stay in sync across all your iOS5 devices.  If they use your cell number, then the iMessage convo will only show up on your iPhone.  Even though the Apple ID you used to activate iMessage in the Apple ecosystem links your devices, a reply from your iPhone to an iMessage sent only to your cell phone will not "push" the reply to your non-iPhone device.  Long story short, give all your iOS5 contacts the e-mail address you entered above in the "Receive At" setting and all your convos will stay in sync.  This is very similar to the BlackBerry Messenger protocol and the PIN that BBM users need to provide other BBM users so they can message each other.
I commandeered my wife's iPad and iPhone and began sending iMessages back and forth between my and her devices.  Step 1, I sent an iMessage from my iPad 2 to her cell number.  Because I initiated the iMessage to my wife and my devices were both activated in the Apple ecosystem using my Apple ID, the convo appeared on both my iPad and iPhone but she received my iMessage on her iPhone but NOT her iPad.  This is because her iPad is connected to the iMessage platform through her "Receive At" email address; there is no "link" between her iPhone cell number and her iPad.  When she responded to my iMessage, the convo continued to appear only on her iPhone but appears on both my iPad 2 and iPhone.  Step 2, I sent her an iMessage to her "Receive At" email address and she received the message on both her devices.  As in the first scenario, the convo appears on both of my devices.  At this point, because I used her "Receive At" email address, the convo is in sync on both of her devices.  Here is an important tip:  when you type in a contact name on the "To:" line of an iMessage, their available iMessage "Receive At" email addresses and cell phone number will appear with a little blue balloon next to them.  The opposite of the above occurred when my wife initiated the iMessages to me as described in Step 1 and Step 2.
    In summary:
First, make sure you activate iMessage on all your devices using your unique Apple ID.  This links your devices in the Apple iMessage ecosystem.  Second, choose a "Receive At" email address that you can provide to your contacts that use iOS5 so that convos that they initiate to you will be in sync across your iOS5 devices.  Lastly, I recommend setting your Caller ID to your "Receive At" email address.  This will prompt any users that don't have your "Receive At" email address to add it to their contacts.  It may go without saying, but if your iOS5 contacts have multiple iOS5 devices and they are interested in keeping their convos in sync across their devices they will have to provide you their "Receive At" email address as their preferred iMessage contact.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for this write up, it's very helpful and thorough!
I have a couple questions, maybe you could clear them up.
    You write:
"If you have an iPad or other non-iPhone iOS5 device, you will want to choose an e-mail address (on my devices my Apple ID is the same as my e-mail address I am using on the "Receive At" setting) as your "Receive At" setting."
How important would you say this part I've bolded is?  For example, if my Apple ID is "Tooth" but my "Receive At" setting is "[email protected]," I'll still be able to sync the messages, correct?  The part that is tricky is with the iPhone, where your defaul "Receive At" setting will be the phone number, despite the iPhone also being registered with the same Apple ID.
    Next, you say:
"Lastly, I recommend setting your Caller ID to your "Receive At" email address.  This will prompt any users that don't have your "Receive At" email address to add it to their contacts."
What exactly do you mean by your Caller ID here?  Do you mean the contact card that I have for myself, in my contacts app?
Thanks so much for posting this.

I have one apple ID for both my Iphone 4S and Ipad. My Ipad was stolen from me and when I checked the iCloud, it can only locate the Iphone 4S. How can I locate the Ipad device?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud  2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel.  I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.”  After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar?  Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue?  Thanks much in advance!

  • I recently upgraded iTunes to 11.1.4.62 and then itunes would no longer recognize my iphone 4s and iPod

I recently upgraded iTunes to 11.1.4.62 and then itunes would no longer recognize my iphone 4s and iPod although I can see the iphone but NOT the iPod on the computer (windows 8.1 Pro).  I checked everything , cable, services, stop and start and automatice, etc.and went through all the steps on the apple support site, to include removing all apple software in the designated order and reinstalling it.  iTunes still doesn't see the iphone.
The Apple iPhone shows up only under protable Devices in the Device Manager window and has a Yellow ! warning triangle, and there is no Apple USB controller in the devices menu.under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. When I look under the properties of the Apple iphone, it says in Device Status, to reinstall the drivers for this device (Code 18).
When I do this,  I get the following: "Windows found driver softweare for you device but encountered an error when attempting to install it" Apple Mobile Device Driver One of the installers for th this device cannot perform the installation at this time. I tried both suggested locations on the C: drive.
Also I can't seem to find out how to install the Apple USB Contoller or is that related to the problem above?
The iphone and my ipod work fine with this version of itunes on Windows 7 on my laptop.  is it possible that I am missing a critical update from Microsoft on the driver and USB controller?  I have been leery of installing them since my computer had problems with some updates in January.
I 've tried every thing listed in this forum, I think, and the Apple support page on this subject.  Please help!

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the recognition troubles?
