IPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS won't connect wirelessly at home when PCs are off.

Dear Apple.com,
I have been using iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS wirelessly at home no problems.
I use a MAC filter on an unsecured wireless network. Only entered MAC addresses can connect wirelessly.
However, when I turn off all the PCs at home the iPhone find the wireless network and show connected, but cannot browse websites.
The router Linksys WRT610N is always on, so the wireless connection and permission for the iPhone MAC addresses to access the wireless connection should work?
Any ideas?

Is your router a model that supports a/b/g/n? If you turn off N will it work? If your N is setup at 40MHz slots it may not work as well. Can you take your wireless router somewhere else for testing? I assume you might have some issue where you are at with your Mac and that router. When you open Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info../Network/Airport does it show your network there? From a working machine can you see your Mac from your router web interface? FYI if your router was an Apple product(Airport Express or Airport Extreme/Time Capsule) you could see all your wireless clients via the Airport Utility, even signal strength and connection speed...

I would suggest trying to do what I call a "forced reboot". Hold the home and power buttons down and see if that works. Also try entering in a wifi network: settings->Wifi->Other and enter in all the info and see if that works.

  • My iPhone 3GS won't connect to my MacBook Pro via USB.

When I try to connect my iPhone 3GS to my MacBook Pro, there's no sign from either end that they're connected (the device won't show up in iTunes, and it also won't charge).
I've tried the same computer, with the same cable, and a different iPhone, which works fine. I've tried a different computer as well, and the phone won't connect with that one either. When I use the same cable to charge the phone, plugging it in, it charges fine, but it doesn't whenever I plug the USB into a computer. I've tried to go through all settings that may apply, but nothing seems strange, unless I'm overlooking something? The iPhone has fairly recently been fixed (the button didn't work), and I don't think I've tried syncing it since - could it have something to do with that?
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Try restoring via iTunes. I really think it's time for an upgrade. You should really consider an iPhone 4 AT LEAST since they aren't so expensive used. If you check on Craigslist, you can find one for $100. The Retina Display part is so much better than standard resolution on the 3GS and below's screen.

I updated my iPhone just now to iOS 5.1 and now it won't connect to the internet/apps via 3G; I also cannot retrieve mail.  My messages are now also sending as normal SMS and not iMessage please help.

Have you contacted your provider to see if they are experiencing issues?

  • Macbook won't connect wirelessly on home network

    Hey guys,
I see that a lot of you are having the same issue I am. I have a Macbook that I got the summer of 2008. Up until Thursday, it would connect wirelessly to my E-wire router and network just fine. Then it quit. Later that night, I went up to school for a class, and it connected just fine to the wireless network up there, but will not connect wirelessly to my home network. I have since gotten a new router (Netgear) and reconfigured everything (again), including security and all updates. Airport shows that I am connected to my network, and I can load web pages when I am plugged into the router via ethernet cable (as I am now) but when I try to launch Mozilla or Safari wirelessly, I get the "Server cannot be found" error message.
I am connected to my network, I have tried shutting off Airport and restarting it, as well as quitting my browser and reopening it, and rebooting my Macbook all together. And I also went in and manually entered my IP address, which is what allowed me to connect to the network via ethernet cable in the first place.
Any theories why my Macbook (which is newer) won't connect wirelessly whereas my roommates older Macbook doesn't have any issue connecting wirelessly from right next to me? And I know that it's not an issue of too many people trying to be on the network at once, since it's just the two of us at most, and I'm the only one here right now.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Iphone 3gs won't connect to itunes

I've tried everything, but my iphone won't connect to itunes. Does anyone have some advice? I'm desperate right now.

If you computer recognizes your iPhone but iTunes doesnt try uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes. If your computer doesnt recognize your iPhone try a different cable and different USB ports, if it still doesnt connect try connecting your 3GS to another computer. If it connects to another computer fine then their is something wrong with the usb ports on your computer.

  • My iPhone 3GS won't connect to my Linksys WRT160N v3

I have an iPhone 3GS and figured what a great idea it would be to have a wireless network in my house!  So i bought a Linksys WRT160N v3 wireless router.  And problems galore!  I can connect to my network alright but my iPhone won't switch over to "wireless" mode if you know what i mean.  It remains in "3G" mode. Not sure why it won't switch over.  After doing some research, i may have stumbled upon the problem...maybe?   Looking at the specs of an iPhone 3GS, it appears that it doesn't support "N" routers(i.e. 802.11 b/g - but no "N")  So did i screw up and buy the wrong router?  Is this router backwards compatible?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Same problem with Linksys WR160N and WiFi iPhone connection. No matter what you do it won't connect. It DOES for about 3min and then kicks you out, period.
I just bought this Linksys WR160N and my OLD Linksys G worked 100% better then this.

  • IPhone 3GS won't connect to router?

I used to be able to use wifi with no problems at my grandparents' house, but not anymore. A few months ago, something must have gone wrong, because all of the sudden, my iPhone started saying "Cannot connect to *SSID here*". I tried to reset the router, restore my phone, reset network settings, do manual settings, change the security settings, but nothing works. The sad thing is, all other devices that try to connect to the network work, it is only this iPhone.
This is making me so frustrated, because my iPhone connects to any other router, just not the one I use at my grandparents' house! It is annoying because I'm almost out of data for the month on my plan, and I need the wifi. The router is a linksys WRT160N, if you need to know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?
created by mpa9366 in Using iPad - View the full discussion
Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.
Wonder why people start to migrate to other devices ?

  • TS1398 My iPhone 4 won't connect to my home WiFi, but all my other devices are connecting to it just fine. Please help!

Hey everyone, I have been having this problem for about a day or two now. I have an iPhone 4, and have iOS 7.1.2. Basically, my iPhone will connect to my home WiFi sometimes, but it randomly loses connection and won't connect for hours upon hours. I have tried turning it on and off multiple times as well as resetting the network settings. I know that it is not my network's problem because a member of my family has an iPhone 5S, and it works fine with the WiFi, along with all of my other devices. This issue is getting very annoying as I don't like to use my cellular data at home since it is limited. Please help me!!

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
What happens when it fail to connect?
-----  Does the iOS device see the network?
    ----- Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Iphone 3Gs won't connect to computer after buying 4s

I had the 3Gs for a long time and never had any issues with in connecting to my computer. I just bought the 4s to replace it, but I still want to use the 3Gs as an ipod. However, when I connect it to my computer it doesn't show up under anything. There's not even a charging symbol on the screen of the phone. I've tried 3 different cords, and none of them work when hooked up to the computer, but they all work fine when attached to the wall charger. How can I fix this?

Suspect, it would be helpful if you found your original cable for 3gs. They all suppose to be the same, surprise they are not. Those other cables give you some of the functionality, but not all. Just my two cents.

  • My Iphone 3GS won't connect to itunes, recovery mode won't work, only charges from wall charger when you turn it off then plug it in

I actually have the phone now in recovery mode, it's got the screen up, and I have it plugged in, and nothing's happening. I know the cable isn't screwed, because I use it to charge all the time.

  • IPhone 3GS won't connect to the internet

    Hi
Over the last 24 hours Safari seems to have stopped working. When trying to browse the internet (even when signal strength is full and 3G enabled) it seems to take forever to load before one of the following messages appears:
"Could not access cellular data network"
"Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"
If I switch WiFi on and access through a wireless network it works fine.
So is this a problem with my service provider or the phone itself?
Rest of the phone features (SMS, phonecalls etc.) seem fine bar the internet services.
BTW I'm based in the UK and a pay monthly o2 customer.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers

And just like that the problem vanishes... thanks anyway.
This will probably get a lot more frequent after Christmas...
