Iphone 3G and REAL GPS software?

Hi,
My question is easy :
When Apple will produce or open on Appstore REAL GPS software for iPhone?
Because since July we can't use iPhone as a GPS in a car...
And GPS only out a car says nothing.
TomTom and others have define solution for iPhone but always nothing on store.
Why and When?
Best regards,
Laurent

you are confusing GPS with software that uses GPS to give you turn by turn directions. the GPS in the iPhone IS real GPS, it just doesn't have software to do turn by turn directions. unfortunately, you and many others associate GPS with directions. GPS stands for Global Positioning System, which is what the iphone does.... it doesn't stand for Global Turn By Turn Directions System
just because it doesn't have the software you want doesn't make it any less of a "real" GPS....

Is it a good idea to update my iphone 3GS with the new io6 software?  I did it with my iphone 3G and the io4 software ruined it really!

Your plan is generally OK, but I would suggest a different approach, since you're so frazzled by it.
    1. Update iPhoto first; check and backup the iPhoto Library;
    2. Upgrade to Yosemite; This will prompt you to migrate to Photos, but you don't have to do it, so don't!
    3. iPhoto 9.6.1 will remain in your Applications folder and you can continue to use it;
    4. Learn more about Photos, it's features and how iCloud Photo Library really works (for example, once you turn it on, you won't need to download manually);
    5. When you do feel you know enough about Photos, only then launch it to migrate your photos; after migration your iPhoto Library remains fully functional, in case you want to revert to using iPhoto, so that part should not worry you.
Thet biggest issue you have is the small amount of free space. You might want to address tha first, or locate your new Photos Library on an external drive as well, and only move it to your local drive when it's been optimized (or keep it on an external).

  • IPhone 5 and Satellite GPS

Everyone, for a long time I have been wanting to move to the iPhone, however due to the lack of Satellite and WAAS based GPS, i have not.  So I am wondering... Oh, please, oh please, oh please, does the iPhone 5 have Satellite based GPS?
If not, does anyone know why Apple will not add this feature to their radios.
    thanks

By "disabled the radio", do you mean put it into airplane mode, which disables the GPS.

Some info on the iPhone 4 and 4S:
    GPS
The iPhone 4 previously used a BCM4750 single chip GPS receiver, and shared the 2.4 GHz WiFi antenna as shown many times in diagrams. We reported with the CDMA iPhone 4 that Qualcomm’s GPS inside MDM6600 was being used in place of some discrete solution, and showed a video demonstrating its improved GPS fix. I suspected at the time that the CDMA iPhone 4 might be using GLONASS from MDM6600 (in fact, the MDM6600 amss actually flashed onto the CDMA iPhone 4 includes many GLONASS references), but never was able to concretely confirm it was actually being used.
MDM6610 inside the 4S inherits the same Qualcomm GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Gen8 support, namely GPS and its Russian equivalent, GLONASS. The two can be used in conjunction at the same time and deliver a more reliable 3D fix onboad MDM6610, which is what the 4S does indeed appear to be using. GPS and GLONASS are functionally very similar, and combined support for GPS and GLONASS at the same time is something most modern receivers do now. There are even receivers which support the EU’s standard, Galileo, though it isn’t completed yet. This time around, Apple is being direct about its inclusion of GLONASS. The GPS inside MDM6610 fully supports standalone mode, and assisted mode from UMTS, GSM, OMA, and gpsOneXTRA.

  • I am very upset with both Iphone 3G and 2.0 software

    OK These are my gripes
First the actual store experience, it was a zoo. I waited in line for 2 hours and I did not even get an apology from the people at the store. They just told me it was AT&T's fault and to complain to them. It took them 25 minutes just to activate my phone. They also said there was 30 dollar connection charge at the store and than there was another connection charge that will appear on the bill. I was outraged, turned out the kid was new and didn't know what he was doing. Than when I left, they basically threw the phone at me. Real nice service.
    1) No Copy/Paste. What is so hard about this? I see all these fancy stuff and they cannot implement this into it? I am getting tired of having to mesmerize lines of text.
    2) No flash. I understand that this really isn't that big of a deal but other phones have it. I really think Apple/Adobe need to come to an agreement cause it is annoying surfing the web and not being able to view any videos or animations.
    3) App Prices. I was browsing the App store and some of those prices are downright ridiculous. 10 bucks for pac man!?!? Some of the apps run up into the 40's and 50's. Steve said there will be a lot of free apps but most of them are lame besides the remote and a couple others (Myspace/AIM)
    4) Speed. OK On my way home from getting my iphone I was in a strong 3g coverage area and I counted and it took 45 seconds to load one page. Even at my home, it is taking 30-40 seconds to load one page. Yes, I am in 3G coverage area at my house also. I just ended up switching to Wi-Fi it was so slow.
    5) Bugs. When I am in both Youtube and Safari it crashes more than my old iphone. I clicked a youtube video and it kept crashing back to the desk 10 seconds into the video.
There are other things to. I am not saying the Iphone is a piece of garbage because it is not, I just think Apple needs to listen to the customers needs more.

I definitely agree with the OP. Today I waited in line for a iphone3G upgrade for 2 hours. After finally getting into the store it took them another 45 minutes to actually sell me the phone. Some how they still had my moto SLVR still on my account even though I had been using the original iphone since it launched last year. They finally work out that bug and then they tell me they cannot activate it. No big deal, im not new to activating iphones on my own anyways. Actually it probably would have saved some time in the line for everyone else. I get home and I cannot even download the new itunes update! I get back to work at 11:15 after arriving at the att store at 7:25am. Glad my boss wasnt mad because itold him I should be back in about an hour, wrong! I get home from work at 2:30pm and I finally am able to download itunes 7.7 but then the update 2.0 software keeps timing out. ***? I was ready to take it back at that moment but anticipation of a great upgrade won me over. I go back to work and get off and I finally get 2.0 and the restore accomplished. I finally have a working 3G, so I thought. Come to find out, 3G is not in my area and wont be until fall next year and I cannot download any new applications. from the Itunes store. So Basically I paid 217.00 and the extra 3G fee for GPS that doesnt talk or beep when your supposed to turn. Most people will probaly crash because there eyes are watching this thing on top of that, the **** thing doesnt even scroll when the dot leaves the screen. All N all was it worth it when you already have an iphone and the Nokia N96 will be out this fall? Hmmm. atleast the restocking fee is only 20.00.

  • Iphone 3g and 2.0 software

Im not sure how to get through to someone in Apple that would listen, but personally I think it is a big mistake to release the new phone with only two of the major concerns fixed.
What about flash for safari, video, mms, and full keyboard texting/emailing? These should be simple fixes. (I would imagine)
Come on Apple. I hope your hiding some stuff from us.

    xtotheizo,
You can communicate with the vast majority of MMS phones via email. Further, many carriers charge extra for MMS messages, but the iPhone is sold with an unlimited data plan. Emailing pictures to a MMS phone from the iPhone is free, MMS can cost in many situations.
Flash is owned by Adobe, and Adobe controls Flash.
You are certainly welcome to submit your feedback, and the feedback is read, at this link:

    Hope this helps,

  • E61 - GPS Module and GOLF GPS Software

Hello Team - I want to buy a GPS system for distance measurement on my local golf course. Does anyone have any experience of the GPS modules (LD 1W or LD3W) for the E61? I see they claim 5-10 M accuracy, but that isn't really good enough for a Golf Course.
Also - in addition to the GPS module I would need to download the specialist GPS/Golf Course applicationi. There are plenty (eg IGOLF, SKYCADDIE). Does anyone have any experience of these - also on the E61.
I am wondering whether to use the GPS module + Golf App (bit cheaper) or just opt for the separate tool. Or not bother at all!
    Any views or advice appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi rolandrat
You are right to have reservations concerning accuracy as the following factors have to be taken into account:
    Ionospheric effects ± 5 meter
    Ephemeris errors ± 2.5 meter
Satellite clock errors ± 2 meter
    Multipath distortion ± 1 meter
    Tropospheric effects ± 0.5 meter
Numerical errors ± 1 meter or less
What may have been recorded as landmark one day can have shifted postion considerably on another.

So basically i set a passcode and forgot it.. I want to restore my iphone. It's an iphone five and currently the software is all up to date. However whenever I try to restore it, I get this message that it's contacting the apple software server and then it begins downloading i.os which takes up to 5 hours. Why is it doing this?

The only way to deal with a forgotten passcode is to restore the phone.

  • Availability of real GPS applications for 3G?

Firstly, I'm not talking about turn-by-turn navigational software. I have no use for that.
What I mean by "real" GPS software is software that enables me to get Lat/Longs (or coordinates in other coordinate systems), WAAS availability, parallel channels, and preferably that is fully WGS-84 compliant (or EGM96, better yet), and can handle different datums.
Do I have a snowball's chance in heck, or do I just go back to my Blackberry and go give my money to Garmin? Thanks in advance.

I no of no program that does WGS-84, or any standard for that matter, but I see no reason why a iPhone couldn't do that. Wait a month or two in till more programs come out for the iPhone.

    iOS- Understanding passcodes
A Complete Guide to Recover Your iDevice if You Forget Your Passcode
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Best GPS software w/external puck and Verizon?

For years I've used WM phones with an external gps receiver (i.trek M series) and iGuidance software.  It worked fantastic.  Now I've been forced to switch to a BB Curve running on Verizon.  I still have my i.trek M5 but don't know the best software to purchase.  I tried nav4all and it simply didn't work (didn't find my paired gps for some reason).  Tried to download a trial of Garmin and it won't support Verizon at all, even with an external receiver (or so the website claims).  Looked at MapQuest Navigator trial download; same issue, it won't support Verizon.  Looked at TelNav and they want $99 per year?  They're crazy.  GPS software will be commoditized soon and will wind up free in the very near future I believe.  I'm not paying yearly for TelNav.
So experts, I'm looking for a recomendation based on your experiences.  If iGuidance would just port their software over for BB, this would be a done deal!!!
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know what "bells and whistles" you are looking for but I am using the BB maps application and it works great. It is not voice prompted turn by turn directions but man it has a lot of good services. I also have loaded GPS Snitch and use them in unisom to be able to map friends locations in comparision to mine. They are both great but better together.

  • GPS not working in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

Can somebody confirm that GPS location data (not from cell or wifi) is no longer functioning in IOS6 when installed on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4?

I have the same issue exept my phone doesn't ring for incoming calls. I've tried every fix, restored the phone and spent over an hour on the phone with Apple Care doing a second restore. The supervisor told me that he hadn't heard of the issue at all and came to the conclusion that I'd somehow broken the silent switch and that I'd have to pay $150 to have it repaired, despite my insistance that it was obviously a software issue since the problem started immediately after I updated to iOS 6. Total BS. I want this issue resolved immediately considering that the phone is virtually useless to me if I have to carry it around and continually check for notifications and incoming texts, phone calls, etc.

P.S. When I look at my Playlists most of the songs are greyed out.  However, at the bottom of the list there is a cloud icon with a downward facing arrow.  When I click on it each song starts to "load" and after a few minutes I have the songs back on in the list.  I have to do this to all my playlists (I had over 100) in order to get access to all my songs.  Then I did a sync and it happened again!
I use iCloud for documents and some other things (calendar, contact, etc.) but am not aware that I have anything music-wise in the cloud.  Any thougnts?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.
