  • Will warranty cover a broken sleep button and scratches?

Will warranty cover a broken sleep button and scratches?

Only if Apple decides the breakage is a result of a defect in the switch.  Ordinarily, no, accidental damage or breakage from simple time & use, and cosmetic damage from use are not covered under warranty.

  • IPhone 4 Won't Turn on =[ broken sleep button too

    Hey guys!
well heres my question/problem. Yesterday I noticed my battery was running low and it gave me the 20% battery warning but i wasnt around a charger so i just put it back into my pocket. after a few minutes i noticed that my phone wouldnt turn on so i assumed that the battery just died, so i went home and charged it over night but still no signs of life the next morning.. I cant do a hard reset because my sleep/wake button is broken =\
    ive tried:
    wall charging
    connecting it to a macbook
ive even tried pushing down super hard on the sleep button but all i end up with is nothing on the screen and a really red thumb.
so..any suggestions guys? I also kind of found it funny that my iphone decided to die the day before you could preorder the iphone 5 lol its like apple commands older iphones to die so we buy the new ones spot on.. but my contract isnt up until december so you can understand my dilema =[
any help would be great guys! happy iphone 5 preorder day btw [=

The same thing happened to my phone and the sleep button is broken. What did you to do to fix it?

  • IPhone 5 Stuck at Apple Logo + Broken Sleep Button

Hi, I HATE MY IPHONE NOW!!
The sleep button is broken for a while and last night I was updating my iOS and when it was restarting it got stuck at the Apple logo. I can't force my iphone to turn off so I can't do the restore steps. What should I do? -thanks

I can't help with the restore, but in case you aren't already aware, Apple has a replacement program for the iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake button and you may be eligible: https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/

  • Broken sleep button, frozen iphone.

The sleep button recently broke on my iphone 4, and it is now frozen... how can I reset it?
I have already plugged it into the computer and the iphone displays no change, and the computer does not detect the device.

    Try resetting it;
Simply hold the home and power buttons
until it turns off and release when the Apple boot/start up logo appears. If this doesn't work try putting it into DFU mode and resstoring it. To put your iPhone into DFU mode:
    1. First, Open up iTunes, plug in your iPod Touch/iPhone to the CPU's USB port. Turn on your CPU's speaker and make sure it is loud enough to hear.
    2. Hold down the Power button and the home button
simutaneously, until the screen goes black and the device turns off.
    3. Now let go of the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button.
Your iPod Touch/iPhone should have turned off and the screen should not be on.
    4. After around ~10-20 seconds, you will hear a noise (beep/ding) from your CPU as if it had just recognized a new hardware device, now iTunes should recognize it in DFU mode.
    5. After iTunes recognizes the iPod Touch/iPhone, let go of the Home button otherwise it will go into recovery mode and you will have to do the entire DFU process over again.
    6. You will know when you have put your iPod Touch/iPhone correctly into DFU mode when the display is blank and that you do not have anything on your device.
    7. Click restore in iTunes and it should restore your iPhone.
Hope this helps, email me at [email protected] for more help

  • IPhone 5 replacement sleep button

The sleep button on my iPhone 5 has broken and Apple will fix it because it's a known fault and I've had it under 2 years, but the back case of my phone is cracked. The phone is still fully functional just cracked. Will they still fix it for free?

    Most unlikely
The repair of the sleep button is I believe an "extension" of the warranty and as such your warranty is voided by the user damage you have caused in breaking the back
Your only choice is an out of warranty exchange £209 (if you are in Bolton )
However Apple will decide if you contact them and ensure you give ALL the detail

  • Broken sleep button, forever loading state, can't restore through itunes due to my password.

So I found my old ipod touch, 3rd gen.
I've neglected it for a long time because of the problem it still has to this day.
Why I'm trying to fix it now is because I spent $200 on it in the past and it'd make a good gift for my friend who has never owned an ipod.
Let me get right to the details.
The current state of the ipod looks like recovery mode, but itunes still won't recognize it because of password protection. There's the little white apple logo in the center of the screen and there's a loading bar underneath it. When it loads up to around 20%-30%, a buffer circle appears and the progress bar is back at zero. I've kept it plugged in overnight to see if it ever fully loads whatever it's trying to load.
I've also let the battery run dry and then plugged it in, but it goes right back into that forever progress bar state.
I really don't mind losing data on this ipod and I'm sure the warranty is long gone.
And Recboot just causes that buffer circle to appear and resets the progress bar.
Trust me, I did a lot of looking around on how to fix this and nothing really helps. I have a $200 brick on my hands.
    Summary:
    -Sleep button is broken
-Recboot doesn't seem to do anything
-itunes denies the ipod because it has a password
    -warranty is expired
    -not jailbroken
It's probably dead for good, but if you can help bring it back to life I'd appreciate it a lot.
Thanks for the help in advance.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad (if you can turn off iPad)
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug (very important)
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note: Data will be lost

  • Turn-Off screen keeps coming up - maybe broken sleep button?

    hey there,
i got my 3gs on saturday (t-mobile, germany) and it worked great for exactly one day. on sunday i noticed that the phone woke up from time to time showing the turn off screen, which usually appears if you hold down the sleep button for some seconds (red slider at the top).
after that, the same screen popped up more often, it even interrupts other actions by appearing on top of applications like phone or mail.
sometimes the phone will make a screenshot of the current screen if i push the home button, so it seems like the sleep key is stuck.
the phone has no visible damages, the button looks normal and doesn't act jammed.
all this happens unpredictably so i can't reproduce it, but its happens pretty often by now and is anoying as ****
i tried restarting the phone, resetting the prefs, resetting everything, restoring in via itunes etc.
guess is have to send it back, i just wanted to ask for more ideas and leave a mark for other affected users.
    regards
    jan

Bad news. I got my 3GS Saturday (6/27) at the local Apple Store. By Sunday morning, I noticed the "random" power off slider. Sometimes, the sleep switch works, sometimes it doesn't. It's gotten progressively worse...after less than 72 hours of ownership. I have a case open with Apple and a Genius appointment in 2 days. In the meantime, I suggest you DO NOT power off your phone. Apple had me do a reset (for the 4th time) and the phone would power down DURING the boot. After 10 minutes..and pressing NOTHING, it suddenly started up and ran. The sleep switch is virtually dead. The Apple rep mentioned something about "cracked circuit boards", but did not elaborate. I suspect something in the assembly process is trashing the board the switch is attached to.

  • Broken sleep button - repair in northern virginia?

Yesterday morning I dropped my beloved iphone and the top button is jammed. It seemed to work ok but now gets stuck in fits of constant rebooting. Sometimes if I bang it around a little, I can get it to work for a while but it eventually craps back out.
I went to the Apple store in Tysons and the guy said it would cost $270 for a replacement. I know the 3G iphones are coming soon and I don't want to spend anything close to that amount to fix it.
    I have two questions:
    1. Is there any way I can work on the phone myself to get the button working again? At this point the phone is all but dead anyway so I don't mind a little risk.
    2. Is there any repair shop in the Tyson's corner or northern Virginia area that can repair an iphone with this problem for relatively cheap? I saw someone on another forum said its about $30 to fix it locally but I don't know where to begin.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Mike Shea

  • How to Reset iPhone with Broken Power Button

    Hello
Just recently I've had the problem with my phone, it had a non-responsive black screen and it would not turn back on
    If you have this same issue, please follow these steps;
    1) Connect your iPhone to iTunes
    2) Enable backup of your phone via iCloud
    3) Restore your iPhone to the latest backup that you can see, it would be soon; due to the backup being directly to your iCloud wirelessly
I'm not 100% sure if it will fix your issues as well, but it worked for me. Good Luck!

There's no way to reset the iPhone without the power button.

  • IPhone disabled, broken power button, no passcode, how to restore?

iPhone 5 says "iphone is disabled", the top power button is broken, no possible way of putting in the passcode. Need to restore/restart/unlock/whatever it.
    How do?

    Try this:
    Use Find My iPhone
If you enabled Find My iPhone, you can use it to erase your device.
Go to icloud.com/#find to see if you enabled Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
Select your device and click "Erase [device]" to erase your device and its passcode.
Use the Setup Assistant on your device to restore the most recent backup of your device.

  • Frozen phone with a broken sleep button

I went to go send someone a text and my phone completely froze. I cant do a hard restart because the sleep/lock button is broken. I tried plugging it in to see if I could do a restore on Itunes but Itunes didnt recognize the phone. Is there any solution to fix this other then just letting the battery die?

no.  You're going to have to bring the phone in for exchange.
