Iphone 3G - cannot get POP3 email accounts from verizon to work

I have tried everything I know to do. I am unable to get my 2 verizon pop3 accounts to connect. Any suggestions? I am somewhat dismayed at the apparent Apple attitude that it's our problem, not theirs. In the past I've always been able at Verizon to talk to someone and resolve a problem. Not here it seems. Maybe I've made a mistake.

I have SUCCESSFULLY gotten my 2 Verizon POP accounts to work on my iPhone 3G. It took some trial and error but I haven't read this solution anywhere but it worked for me. I can send and receive from the iPhone from anywhere.
Prerequisite:
You need to set this up from your home or wherever your Verizon access is and you need WiFi there.
First:
Delete any Verizon accounts you set up that don't currently work.
Second:
Turn on and log into your home base WiFi.
Third:
Go to mail set up and add account/other.
Fourth:
Fill in the four fields using your exact Verizon mail account information. I say exact because I use a forwarding service to alias my email. Not now, that comes later and works too.
Fifth:
You will get an error (in due time, not quickly) that will ask if you should try again with SSL turned OFF. Answer YES.
Sixth:
Repeat; that error will come a second time. Answer YES again to turn SSL off. If you are lucky you should get four quick check marks on the settings and the account will be created.
Seventh:
Now send a test message (WiFI still running) to an outside email you can get to, like GMAIL or Yahoo etc. It may be slow to go, the first time. Hopefully it worked and you can reply and receive it back. You may need to refresh your mailbox. It gets faster/normal later.
Eighth: (Optional)
If it worked and you have an alias, change the appropriate fields now and test again and check the resulting email on the outside service.
Ninth:
and hopefully last. If all is well to this point. Turn off WiFi and test with AT&T native services. It should work. Make sure your Fetch options are turned on as Verizon isn't push.

One bad thing, since we set up this account manually it can't impost your folder structure and I can't see how to add any in iPhone OS.
I'm not sure exactly why this worked but my educated guess is by using the WiFi we're inside the Verizon firewall and the servers greet you as a known entity. Then when it works and you come from AT&T it recognizes you and welcomes you in. A handshake of some sort. It's not perfect and sometimes the fetch doesn't work, you may need to kick it along. But, you'll get your mail until Apple & Verizon, and maybe other services make nice.

    Not easily, no. There's no direct transfer option between POP and IMAP, especially across email providers. The best you could do would be to forward all of your emails to your new address, although it's not clear that you need to - dropping your sbcglobal.net account doesn't instantly render all your existing mail void - it'll still be in your Mail client, you can still read it, search it, etc., it just won't be on your provider's server.
    I have toyed with the idea of getting a MobileMe account. Would that solve my issue/question above?
    MobileMe would be viable, especially if you're interested in synching your various iOS devices. It's not free, of course, unlike Yahoo and Gmail, although you've already discounted them...
    I have also toyed with purchasing my own URL, but it's hard to tell from the sites (1and1, Namecheap, etc.) if they come with IMAP email accounts included.
    Some registrars offer email hosting bundles with a domain registration. This could be a good way to go. GoDaddy, for example, have a email hosting option for domains you register with them.

  • Since last update, I cannot get an email account on my iPhone that I previously worked fine. Any suggestions?

    Re iPhone 5: Since IOS 8 8.0.2 update, I cannot get email from 1 of the 2 email accounts (which is from the same internet provider).  They use the same imap and smtp ports.  Is that a problem? Or is it IOS? No problems previously.  I can get both emails on iPad and Mac Air. 

    I reset by pressing power and menu button at same time  until I saw the apple. Did not help.  Deleted then added account back. Did not help. Next deleted account, reset again, added account back.  Still does not work:( any other suggestions?

  • Cannot delete GoDaddy Email Account from iPhone 5s

    Hello.  I'm having a strange issue.  So first off, the email account I'm referencing is a GoDaddy account.  I recently changed my password, and somehow outgoing mail stopped working, saying that the password is wrong.  I've re-enter the correct password many times, and it still doesn't work.  So then I thought, screw it, I'll delete and then re-add the account, but there is no 'Delete' option in the account settings, as shown in all the tutorials. It is not an issue of Restriction settings, as they are off, but I turned them on, and made sure that mail wasn't restricted and it made no difference.  Anyone else having this issue?  Anyone have any idea what to do?

    Also, I have two other email accounts on my phone, one AOL, and one iCloud, and both of them appear as you would expect when you go into Settings: with toggle buttons for 'Mail' and 'Notes' and a 'Delete Account' option.  But in the GoDaddy account, there isn't any of those options, just the specific settings (Incoming/Outgoing Server) and no 'Delete' option.  And like I said, it isn't a 'Restrictions' issue.  I'm stumped.  I've attached screenshots to help explain what I'm talking about.
    *And obviously the empty fields are filled out correctly, I've deleted them in the photos for privacy reasons....

    A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.

    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  • 5.0 update cannot add another email account from same server

    Updated my 3Gs iPhone to the 5.0.  Unable to add a second email account.  Receive message "Cannot Get Mail.  The user name or password for "mobile.charter.net" is incorrect.  I did not have trouble having two email accounts before the update.  Can anyone assist me?

    It is a standard pop mail account provided by UK ISP Virgin Media. I can setup my hotmail account on it with no problems.
    I have had a play around with the settings (I am an IT Engineer) and once the hotmail account is set up, I can then edit the account settings and change them for the virgin media settings with no errors or hanging. However, when checking for email, it never downloads any.
    I have this account set up on other devices / phones and setting the messages to be left on the server on all the devices and the account behaves correctly on these devices. I know there is email on the server and have sent test email to that account.
    If I delete all the mail accounts, and try to recreate the virgin media pop account, then the inital problem occurs.

  • Firefox is BLOCKING Gmail due to securtiy certificate! HELP?? Cannot get my email accounts!!

    I just purchased a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 Pro. I downloaded and installed the latest version of Firefox.
    I have several very important Gmail accounts but Firefox will NOT allow me access to any Gmail items! There is not even the option to ignore the warning that the security certificate is invalid. I CANNOT get to any Gmail account.
    The computer I am replacing also has the latest version of Firefox but it allows access to all my Gmail accounts. The only reason that I am replacing the computer is because Microsoft has stopped supporting XP and all my normal software vendors will no longer support me; so I am forced to change.
    One suggestion in Firefox is to go to the Profile file and delete "cert8" and then let Firefox recreate it. THAT DOES NOT WORK with my problem.
    Please, can someone help. I have a business to run and I have all day on this issue.

    Firefox reports that Google's Gmail has an invalid certificate! No other program does this. In fact, it does not do this on my other computer running the same software. Internet Explorer connects without a problem.
    Deleting "cert8" file from Firefox's profile does not seem to work either. What I mean by "seem" is that it might work for a couple of loads then it blocks it again.

    A lot of websites I go to and click on Contact us or email us nothing happens and therefore I cannot find the email address ,
    I have found a Way around that is plug in my Mouse and right click properties and sometimes I get the email address ,
    However this is annoying as happens alot .. Yes pop up window is turned off so if pop up should work

    The email address should appear in the Status bar at the bottom of the Safari window when you mouse over the address. If there is no Status bar there, press cmd+/ to turn it on.
    Normally when you click on an address it should launch your local email application. Open Mail (Applications > Mail) and check in Mail preferences > General to see what application is currently configured to handle emails (don't ask me why this setting is here... only Apple can answer that one!).
    If it is set to Mail aready, try changing it to something else (any program, it does not matter which one) and then quit both Mail and Safari. Restart Mail, and once again change the default application to be Mail and quit Mail once more. Lastly, restart Safari and retry a site with an email link.

    I recently upgraded my iPad to iOS 7.0.1 and for some reason, a Facebook email address for me has shown up in my list of email accounts. I cannot delete it. Further, Apple mail is showing my Facebook name on my outgoing emails. Please HELP!

  • TS3276 i just cannot get my email account to go online

    I have tried everything i can think of and have seen online but nothing seems to work. My email says im offline and when i try to reconnect nothiong happens
    I  do not have any network/connectivity issues, i can get internet without a problem
    I have checked the port settings - they are as should be
    When i go into the email settings my incoming mail server looks correct, however no password is present, if i enter mine it does not save
    the outgoing mail server says Hotmail (offline) when i try to edit these setting again the password is blank and i am unable to amend this as the password will not save here either.
    When i go back to my inbox and attempt to bring the account online nothing happens and i get the little triangle  with exclamation mark inside
    Anyone got any ideas as ive wasted hours on this already

  • Cannot get my email account to configure in office 2013

    I have a brand new pc and it has office 2013 on it.  I got an IMAP account to load email, but not an exchange server account that I had used for years in office 2003.  I have all the right setttings.  When I go to establish it, Outlook just
    hangs and says "not responding" like a stalled out webpage.  It then says outlook is not connected.  Well, it IS connected.  I have tried installing this account both via wireless  internet connection and hard wired---no luck. 
    Microsoft says they will gladly help for beween 250 and 500 hundred bucks--not willing to be gouged like that for new product!
    can anyone help a non-techie home office guy?

    These issues are not related to Firefox. Typically email websites let you log in as many times as you want. If you us the wrong password, they will limit how many times you can try.
    Try clearing your cache and cookies.
    # Open the Tools menu, then select Clear Recent History... .

    # Click the arrow next to '''Details''' to display the list of items that can be cleared.
