IPhone 3G dropped on the floor on the first day

it looks like the slot where you switch SIM card is a bit damaged too since I got another card stuck and it took me an hour too take out. Then I updated the phone and got it locked, and on ITunes it says that the SIM card inserted is not supported, so I sent it to the store and told them to fix it, they fixed it, gonna get it back tomorrow and Im gonna get a case for it, do you think its still going to work like a brand new iPhone? And why cant I update? And if I don't update, does the Apps update by itself? cuz Im afraid if the phone gets locked again.
P.S: All they did was unlock the phone, they didnt do anything else besides that.

Bring it to Apple and get it checked out. How could anyone here possibly know what happened to your phone without seeing it?

You will probably have to contact Apple for repair but before you do try this:
Turn your iPad upside down on your lap and give it a hard smack on the back.

You may have damaged the hardware when you dropped it and if you did, there will not be anything that you can do on your own to fix it. You may have to contact Apple for repair or replacement, or visit an Apple Store or an authorized repair center for diagnosis.
In the meantime, try a reset and see if the iPad will start up. To reset the device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If that doesn't do anything, you could try restoring the device and see if that helps, but I have my doubts that it would do anything. That doesn't mean that you can't try, though.

Probably safe to assume if you can no longer turn it on, you probably have hardware damage. Take it in to an Apple store or Authorized Service center to have it checked out, but the warranty will not covver this.

I (kind of dropped) my rMBP 15" from the floor of the passenger car side to the ground. It was protected in a Thule Gauntlet sleeve inside a Thule Crossover Backpack. Should I be worried?

My rMBP 15" was protected in a Thule Gauntlet sleeve which was then inside a Thule Crossover Backpack. The machine fell just from the bottom of the passenger side car to the ground and kind of rolled over a bit on the ground.
I am extremely worried about anything being wrong with my machine, whether it be one of the fans messing up or a RAM issue. I ran AHT (Apple Hardware Diagnostics) and everything was fine. Should I take it in to the Genius Bar and have it looked at?
It may not be anything since the fall was so minisucle (knocks on wood) but any insight from you would be great.
Currently, there are no problems with my rMBP 15" since the minor fall.

I just get extremely worried when these kinds of things happen and expect the worst. rMBP is still in pristine condition (I got it 2 days ago) but get apprehensive when these types of things happen.
Due to this minor fall, do you think anything would happen internally to the machine? Any insight, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Keeping an object level to the floor at the end of a chain

I have a chain of two lines. One rotates from a fixed point
on the floor, the second rotates from a fixed point and the end of
the first. At the end of the second line I have an object I'd like
to swing freely. I'd always like it to stay 'level' to the floor,
regardless of the position of the two lines. So, sort of link
robotic arm dangling something.
Is there a way to 'get' the angle of an object?

Alrighty: I'm simulating the motion of an excavator. During

An Otterbox is a very good case.
If your iPhone is not damaged in any obvious manner (broken screen for example) then it is fine. Nothing will arise in the future as a result of having dropped it.

Micro scratches on the back of the phone? My first day with the phone and have scratches

So I picked up a Z3 at T mobile this morning. After reading online about the phone I must say I am happy so far ..besides one thing. A huge bummer at that!
All the marketing info says the back glass is scratch resistant. I have no idea how but at the end of day one I have mutiple micro scratches on the back glass. T movile only sells the black phone and they are noticable with the right angle. I can imagine on the white or copper it would be less noticable. Anyways ..Is this problem other users have had? I never used cases with my phone and have never had problmes with scratches. At this point I'm considering a case if I can find one I like and going to look for protector for the back.
I have no idea how I could of made the small scratches. I put my pone in a empty pocket. And have not dropped it. I used it on table at work durning lunch. Flat surface. Maybe.. maybe it had suger or slat particles on it. . but nothing noticable. I love this phone it's very attractive and I like the hardware. I just can believe it could be so fragile.

kaz-k, the warranty is irrelevant. A broken screen is not coverd by the warranty and void the warranty on the entire iPod.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. I would say not worth it for a 2G iPod

Thought about the hinges (of the display)

so i have been reading all of these issues with the macbook pro's (late 2008) display hinges problems (where they will not hold the screen open if the computer is tilted (towards the user) at more than 45 degrees the screen will just shut almost completely)....
so since i ordered one, i got really concerned (but since i live 2.5 blocks from the fifth avenue store in nyc i walked there.... i tested 6 of the 8 display units (macbook pro's) and saw that the screen would only shut wen i passed the 45 degree line.... so this would make me think that it isnt that bad since i dont think i ever tilted my macbook more than 45 degrees as i dont sit upside down or lay on the floor keeping the base 90 degrees from my body.....
and as the sales agent said (it is a pretty heavy screen considering its made with glass)... i think it isnt that much of a downer.....
give me ur opinions..... as i am awaiting mine to arrive on monday

the hinge thing is normal.. it is not loose and i don't think apple is going to make it tighter.. if it was tight, then u would have to use both your hands to open the lid since the base would lift up.. and u r right, the lid doesn't fall down if u keep the laptop around 40 degrees or so, it only falls down when u tilt the laptop to 45 degrees or more but that position is senseless.. people just find a thing to complain about.. this is a great laptop, MUCH better than the previous one.. if one goes and buys the prv. one right now, then he/she is loosing out a lot of improvements.. also, glossy screen helps reduce eye strain and screen looks much better than matte..

AppleTV 1st Gen has my entire music library loaded however my iTunes library was lost when my external hard crashed. My question is can I copy the content from the AppleTV 1st Gen back into my iTunes on my iMac?

I have a rather complex music/movie library system, as well as the ability to listen/watch the content throughout my house thanks to Control4 - extra vegetables and other various 3rd party equipment. I moved my entire music library onto an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac...then my dog got tangled in the cord and pulled the external drive from my desk to the floor destroying the hard drive...(yes I've already attempted to have the content recovered by specialists- no such luck.
My question is... Is it possible to copy the content from the AppleTV 1st Gen back into my iTunes on my iMac? If so step by step directions would be greatly appreciated!

What's the difference between the 29 and 79 dollar Apple earphones?

It looks like Apple makes a 29 and 79 dollar Apple earphone with remote and mike. Is there any difference in the two other than the sound? Is the sound improvement worth the extra 50 dollars? I'm thinking of buying one or the other and using it with my 2nd gen touch. I'd like to use Skype with one. Do you think the more costly mike would be better than the other when using Skype? My iPod touch (2nd Generation) is in the process of being repaired or replaced, and Apple sent the prepaid shipping container, which arrived yesterday, so I am sending it to the service center today . . .
Once the iPod touch is repaired or replaced, I will start over with the Apple In-Ear Headphones, since (a) the Mac Pro experiment was encouraging, although the Mac Pro is on the floor, so I had to lean over to do the experiment, since the Apple In-Ear Headphones cable is not long enough to plug into the middle-front of the Mac Pro when I am sitting in a chair and (b) I decided to stop crawling around on the floor around the time I was nine-months old . . .
There were a few moments when the Apple In-Ear Headphones sounded great, but leaning over is not the best way to do the experiment, although it provides a clue regarding the importance of a very precise and snug fit for the silicone ear tips . . .
Another thing I discovered is that apparently I have very narrow ear canals, to the point that the end of a Q-tip is not a loose fit, although I have remarkably good hearing, so instead of trying to get the smallest size silicone ear tips into my ear canals, I switched to using the largest size silicone ear tips, based on the idea of using the Apple In-Ear Headphones as if they were Apple Earphones (in other words, not using them as in-ear headphones, at all), which for me works much better, since for my ears the Concha and Tragus are just about the right shape and size partially to wrap-around the largest-size silicone ear tips--enough to hold it in place--which is a bit easier to understand if you pretend the end of your finger is an an Apple In-Ear Headphone with the largest-size silicone ear tip and then place your fingertip next to your ear canal--noting that as best as I can determine, I am not entirely certain that my ears have an Anti-Tragus, so the way it works with my ears is that if I press the Tragus of an ear all the way to the Concha, it completely seals the ear canal, which for all I know might be part of the reason that my auditory spatial perception is so good . . .
And since I discovered the names for the different parts of the Pinna (the visible part of the outer ear, which also is called the "Auricle" and "Auricula"), this is a diagram that will be very helpful in understanding the terminology, since it shows the names of the other parts and regions of the Pinna:

Hence, another way of answering the original question is that in addition to needing to bathe regularly--or at least to be willing either (a) to start taking a bath or shower once a week or (b) to begin carrying a handy supply of dry and moist cotton balls, as well as a bar of Neutrogena fragrance-free gylcerin facial soap everywhere you go--one also needs to become an expert in the anatomy and physiology of the visible portion of the outer ear, which sooner or later maps to revisiting all the Latin one learned and subsequently forgot many years ago in junior high school . . .

Knowing precisely how to identify the Anti-Helix, Anti-Tragus, Concha, +Fossa of Triangularis+, Helix, Labula, Scapha, and Tragus areas and regions of the Auricle, Auricula, or Pinna probably will be a bonus--sometime, somewhere--for example, if I need to be able to pretend to be an Otologist for national security reasons in the event the aliens from outer space unexpectedly capture me in a tractor beam and teleport me to their spaceship late at night when I am wandering around the back yard in my underpants . . .
From my perspective, strange as it might be, simply knowing that someone apparently had sufficient free time to devise an eight-part naming convention for the visible regions of the outer ear--including three different names for the entire visible portion of the outer ear, itself--is _well worth the extra $50_, even if I never use the Apple In-Ear Headphones, which is fabulous . . .
