IPhone 3G duplicate contacts during sync

All I want is all my contacts on my phone and the same on my iMac, but no, that's too much to ask, instead I get everything doubled up on the phone and everything doubled up (triple in some cases) on the iMac, why does it do this? and more importantly how can I stop it? Thanks

Hi,
Are you syncing contacts to the iPhone from multiple sources, like from your iMac and MobileMe, or Exchange?
If you are, you'll most likely want to disable contact syncing from the Mac and just sync over the air from MobileMe.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3677 addresses the issue and provides tips that will help resolve the issue.

Having problems with duplicate contacts when syncing iPhone and iPad with PC - suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Are you also using iCloud?

  • HT1692 iPhone shows duplicate contacts and categories and will not sync. help

Contacts are not syncing, iphone has duplicates in contacts and groups and I don't seam to be able to over-ride or replace duplicates.
    Have any Ideas?

That's usually a USB timing error. I would unplug the phone and replug it in, also try different USB ports and cords if you've got 'em. Make sure your iTunes program is up to date as well

  • HT204150 Iphone 4S duplicate contacts

I have duplicate contacts on my iPhone, but not on iCloud, my iPad or my desk top computer. I have all my devices set to sync only through iCloud (not through iTunes). My iPhone is the only device with duplicate contacts. How can I correct this problem.

I have the exact same problem.
I tried manually deleting the contacts from iPhone, iCloud and from my Mac Address book (after I exported contacts to a vcard from mac).
Then I imported the contacts to iCloud, and tried synching it with iPhone just to realise I am back at sqaure one.
So booked an appointment at Genius Bar and it turns out they are not really geniuses.
They were not even able to figure out why this is happening nor have an idea of how to solve this.
They tried resetting my phone couple of times but still I am having the same problem.
    Any help??

  • IPhone and Gmail contacts do sync - but not Apple Address Book

    Hi,
iPhone and Gmail contacts sync just fine. Only my Apple Address Book do not sync at all - neither with the iPhone nor Gmail.
I have activated syncing options with gmail in both Address Book and iTunes iPhone settings.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    ShamRockNRoll,
Have you noticed if it's a specific group that is not syncing correctly, or is it random contacts from all groups? If it's just a specific group, you may need to delete that group in Address Book and recreate it.
If it's random contacts from all groups and if all of the contacts you want on the iPhone are in Address Book, you can just select "Contacts" from the Advanced section down at the bottom of the Info tab. That will replace all contacts on the iPhone with those that you have selected to sync from Address Book.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Duplicate Contacts After Syncing Two iPhones from the Same iTunes

My husband and I each have an iPhone that we sync from the same iTunes account. We sync our Yahoo contacts as well. Following the upgrade yesterday, we each now have each other's Yahoo contacts (as well as our own) showing up on our iPhones. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached for iMessages at. Uncheck the phone number that you don't want to use and check/select the number that you do want to use on each phone.

  • How do I rid my Iphone of duplicate contacts

I synced my Iphone with Outlook. Previously I was syncing with my Yahoo.com account. Now I have many duplicates and there is no way I can find to delete them from the Iphone. Is there any way to manage the Iphone contacts from ITunes? How do I fix all my contact info? Yahoo, Outlook and Iphone should all be the same info. Help please? Mike

Duplicate contacts is usually caused by user error due to syncing between iTunes and iCloud simultaneously.  Turn off sync between either iCloud or iTunes and the duplicates should be removed.

  • How can I get rid of and prevent further duplicate contacts when syncing?

I have checked preventing automatic syncing and any other places that seemed to give me some limiting conrol. But I noted the tiny print today that says when syncing by connection with Itunes, mobile me is also in contact wirelessly. I can't see any place mobile me gives me a choice to prevent syncing contacts. I have already spent hours cleaning up the contacts of my iphone 4 and will now have to do it again. Is the only way not to connect to I tunes? How then can you ever get music and other info into this smart phone?

  • IPhone loses USB connection during sync

My new iPhone is working fine so far except for one pretty major issue: I can't sync music/videos to it very well, because about 20/30 seconds into the sync, it loses USB connection. The "Sync in Progress" screen disappears and it goes back to the home screen, and I get an error message in iTunes that says "The drive cannot be found" or "The drive cannot be read from or written to"
The sync itself does work, because I tried syncing a playlist with only one song, and it worked fine because it had time to sync before the connection was lost.
I have USB 2.0 ports and my drivers are updated. I've tried every USB port on my computer.

I read your other thread and a couple of things struck me.
First, it wasn't clear to me whether you'd actually turned off auto sync and then gone in and disabled everything except for a movie or two, let's say. Because we have definitely seen issues where other sync aspects (particularly email) cause issues with media syncing. If you haven't tried it it's definitely worth a try (go into iTunes with the iPhone connected and turn off auto sync -- then hook up the phone and turn off all sync options. I'd then try a music playlist with an album or two. If that works turn off music sync and try with a video or two).
Assuming the above gets you nowhere (and trying to place myself in your shoes) if you lived here in the US (which I don't think you do) the easy no-brainer thing to try would be something like this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7833785&type=product&id=1142298626 004
Since Best Buy offers a money-back return policy this is safe to try and only involves a bit of work in installing the card. But doing this will isolate the MB from the problem, as well as any drivers issues (since the drivers for the card should be okay).
In the old days this kind of solution (albeit with firewire cards) was recommended all the time with iPods, and it solved about 98% of all difficulties. I don't have any data (even anectdotal) here to back it up, but my feeling is this should solve whatever problems you're having. If not it would be valuable information as well.
Overseas I don't know what to tell you, but if there's anyone listening in on this thread from the states perhaps they can try this and let everyone know.

  • Iphone stuck in backup during sync and won't restore

Hey all, I am very new to the forum but I've been reading the posts for a while now. I am having a problem of my own since I've had my phone. All of a sudden, when I try and sync my phone, it stays in the "backing up(my name) Iphone" section. When I try to cancel the sync, it then says "canceling sync" and it will stay unless I restart my computer. I have the latest versions of Itunes and 1.1.4. This has never happened before. I tried restarting my phone and my computer. I also tried a restore, and when I do, it does the same thing. When it says backing up info, it never finishes and I still have to restart my computer. So it won't let me restore my phone either. I'm afraid to sync with another computer to restore because I'm afraid once I try to sync with my computer again it won't sync. I have even run a diagnostics twice through itunes where it does what i guess is a sync to find and test for any errors and it said everything was running properly. Can someone please help, I'm stuck: LITERALLY!!!!

    Im In a similar boat.
I have a Powerbook G4 titanium, USB 2.0 in pci slot. Itunes 7.6.1 and Mac OS 10.4.11
When i sync my iphone to my computer it begins to sync and then before anything can actually transfer, the iphone stalls and restarts. At first i read something about going into isync > prefs and reset the sync history. This worked for a bit! But i really want to do a recent backup of my iphone through itunes. And my itunes hasn't backed up my phone for two months. So i read somewhere else that I could force a backup by removing the old backup in itunes > prefs > syncing. I did that and now iphone is back to stalling and restarting when syncing.
I have tried (maybe not in this order):
reseting the history again through isync.
    Deleting itunes and reinstalling.
    Restarting computer
trying to stop the process MDCrashReportToo in Activity Monitor (but i apparently don't have the file)
Deleting the AppleMobileDeviceSupport files and the mobile device prefs
    turning off my internet connectivity.
    and Yelling at the iphone
Nothing works! Im desperate and out of ideas. It would be awesome if anyone has any more suggestions.

  • IPhone 6  getting hot during sync

I have a shiny new 6+.  While syncing for the first time I noticed it got quit warm.  Googling around, there seems to be chatter about this.  Mostly just talking about it.    Any thoughts by users of this forum?

That is what I suspected.  It cooled down right away.  A lot of hand wringers on the other web sites thinking their phones were defective.  Folks forget any smart phone is a highly integrated  computer that happens to have a phone built in.  So the next time I have to restore the phone I'll expect it to get warm.

  • Skip a contact during Outlook and E6i sync?

    Hello,
I have around 300 entries in my Outlook contacts. I do not want to sync few of the contacts during sync. When I sync my E61i through Nokia PC-Suite, all the 300 entires are getting updated. In reality as I said, I want to skip sync few entries in my contact.
Does Microsoft Outlook provide any option to exclude specified contacts during sync? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Narayanan

You want to avoid syncing calendars and contacts with both iCloud and iTunes.  Doing so will result in the creation of duplicates.  If you want to sync your iPhone calendar and contacts with iCloud, consider also syncing your computer with iCloud (requires Vista SP2 or higher and Outlook 2007 or higher).  iCloud will then keep the calendar and contacts on your phone in sync with Outlook without using iTunes.  (You would still, of course, continue to sync with iTunes for your other iTuens media.)
This guide explains how to set this up: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html.

  • Me and my partner have just got the new iphone 5s and now are contacts have synced to each others phone very fustrating but dont no how to sort the problem out please please help

Me and my partner have both just got the iphone 5s previously having the iphone 4s our contacts have synced to each others phone which is very fustrating and i dont no how to fix this issue please help

Do your contacts exist individually elsewhere?  If not, you're stuck.  If you have the contacts elsewhere (email, Outlook, FaceBook), one of you can turn off your iCloud contacts and elect to remove them from the iPhone.  Your partner needs to do the same so that the list of combined contacts ceases to exist.  Have your partner dlete the current account (from the iPhone) and then generate a separate iCloud account. After that, you can each restore contacts from individual sources.

  • I updated my iphone all my contacts and photos are gone. How can I retrieve them?

I updated my iphone all my contacts and photos are gone. How can I retrieve them?

Have you failed to use the device as designed?
If using the iPhone as designed, contacts are synced with a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.  Pictures taken with the device would be copied off to the computer on a regular basis.
If you have been using the device as designed, simply sync the content back.
If you have not been using the device as designed, you can try restoring from the most recent backup.  However, if that does not restore them, they are gone.

  • Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.
