IPhone 3G: Dust/debris/bubbles under my glass (with pictures)

I purchased my iPhone 3G the second day it was released. There was no way i wanted to wait in line for hours. For the first month owning the iPhone, i noticed a white spot by the speaker. I thought i had scratched it and didn't think anything of it. By the 4th month, there were 2 more, and clearly you can see that they were either debris or air packets stuck underneath. I Also found 3 new bubbles by the bottom left, by my home button.
The reason I am posting this thread is to get some piece of mind because, Rogers, my provider says that they will charge me 800$ if they find that this is my fault. I really hope the bubbles and debris isn't because of me, but because of the manufacturing techniques.
Can someone shed some light, does this sound like a reasonable exchange for a new iPhone? I actually got one comming thing way, i think it will arrive early next week. I'm just worried about the big 800$ surprise.

Make an appointment with a genius bar and they will replace it as long as you play your cards right and don't say something stupid like I work in a construction site. It's telling the truth, but you have to just be careful not to raise flags that will work against you when it's really not your fault.
I've had an extremely similar problem with my 2nd iphone and they replaced it. I love the iphone but it's already my third because of annoying manufacturer issues. Just go and exchange it, they'll do it. It's not your fault and even though I love this phone, I've never seen so many manufacturer issues with a product, but I'm sure it's because so much is crammed in such a small device.

  • Dust under a glass screen.

I've got my IPad 8 months ago - screen in perfect condition. Just recently - few days ago a white spot (dust particle) appeared under the glass screen. Quite annoying on white background and visible when you switch off the screen. Is it possible to replace the unit under 1 year warranty ?

Is it possible - yes. But only Apple can make the determination for sure. You would have to show it to an Apple Genius or contact Apple and send your iPad to them so that they can see the device.

  • Dirt/bubbles under glass?

There seems to be dirt or bubbles under the glass of my late 2008 15" MBP. Does my APP warranty cover this sort of thing? How is this sort of thing normally sorted out?
I have no idea how it got there. I was under the impression that the glass was sealed by the rubber on the sides of the screen. Also, it is even possible for the screen or the glass to bubble? I'm not 100% sure if its a bubble, but it seems like it has a bump with a visible surface.
    Hope that makes sense.

I've had the computer for over a year now though. I'm thinking the seal on the screen broke somehow but how can it be a manufacturing defect after 15 months? The dirt wasn't there up until about a week ago. I swear it just popped up out of nowhere. Is it possible for screen flickers to cause bubbling?
Is it possible for the tech to just remove the glass and clean it out/check for bubbling, or will this result in my screen being replaced?
I'm in the Philippines so I don't have access to an Apple store. I'll try to give the APP hotline a call when I get home.

  • IPhone 5 dust under glass

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed dust under the glass?  Since the LCD and Glass are fused, I dont think they would be able to clean it.  This one particularly bugs me, although the multitudes of dings on the case does not, lol.

i have a small speck of dust under my screen too.. just noticed it today when puttin a new screen protector on. its a small inconvience, i know, that i can barely see, but now that i know its there i cant stop staring at it, not to mention i paid 500 bucks for my iphone 5 so i expect it to be 100 percent, not with defects... gonna call apple tomorrow to see what the stock levels are like at my local store to do an exhange. thank goodness for applecare

take a look and tell me what it is thanks

Oh man, don't get me started on the lack of an included help facility on an "advanced" phone.
It is the height of hubris for Apple to think their UI is totally self-explanatory. If it were, there wouldn't be hundreds of questions on various forums each week about supposedly simple actions.
Even WM phones usually have a help file onbooard. In this case, there's plenty of space. Could just plop the manual in flash if they're really lazy! Otherwise HTML version with search would be nice.

  • Particles of dust under the glass of multi-touch screen

    Dear Sir,
I bought iPhone 3G in HK yesterday. After I opened the box and activated my iPhone, I have found 2 dark spots on the middle of screen. At first, I thought they are dead pixels. However, after taking a look carefully, I think they are particle of dust under the glass of touch screen. How come? from manufacturer process? because I just open it from the box.
Is there any warranty from Apple cover this problem?
What is the method you may help me?
Change the new machine or fix it?
Is there anything I can do by myself?

No sir. There is nothing that you can do your best bet is to bring it back to your provider, or if there is a apple store over there bring it back to them. I know that apple will exchange your unit for this issue. It is from the manufacturer process it seems that they do not have a dust free environment. So just exchange it.

  • What does it cost and how do I replace my shattered IPhone 5 screen and the touch sensor under the glass?

What does it cost to replace my shattered IPhone 5 screen and the touch sensor under the glass?

It is not clear to me how far along this implementation has gonein the US and worldwide, but this seems to describe where it is going:

I have heard of people getting replacements but my real question is can I still get a 2G iPhone replacement from an apple store even though they only sell 3G iPhones now?

was this done in store? I am going to the Charlotte Apple store tonight or tomorrow night for this very purpose. thanks.

  • Iphone 5 dust under screen

    Hi,
Its been 2 months since i got my iphone 5 and i see dust getting accumulated under my screen. Its not a tiny spec or something but i see a lot of dust. So its pretty annoying to see that everytime i use the phone with a light background like browsing on safari or something.
Does this count as a manufacturing defect ?
Can i get a replacement for this ?
    Thanks

Every warranty claim is on a case by case basis.
Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Dust under iPod-glass, case for the guarantee?

    Hello, dear forum users,
I have a little problem with my iPod Video 30GB 5.5G. Three weeks ago, I discovered some dust on the display, I thought it was just some dust on it but it was under the glass.
I really have no idea, how the dust could get there..
So I would like to know if this is a case for the guarantee.
    Thanks

Call Apple, and discuss the issue.

  • Air bubbles under glass display

    Hello,
this morning I spotted air bubbles under the display and even under the "white space" of my almost new (about one month old) Iphone 4 (16gb).
I think I didn't notice these bubbles because until this morning I kept the original plastic screen on the display.
Now I tried to contact apple support but when I type my serial number here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/contact/
    it won't show me anything.

I also have the same problem - but on an iphone 3GS. Am assuming the only way air can get in is during manufacture?
Out of warrenty. Anything I can do? Have seen posts saying if you ignore it it gets worse, but don't see why I should have to pay to rectify something that was created during manufacture

  • New iPad..dust under the glass screen ?????

After buying the new iPad 32GB 4G from your branch here in Saudi Arabia, I was shocked to discover some dust under the glass screen. When I returned to the showroom, they refused to replace it and claimed that it is normal for all iPad products to leak in dust and is not a damage in the unit. I believe it is not acceptable at all for a SAR 3000+ devise to allow dust to come into its internal chipsets (with all the damage this might cause). I am sending this as a complaint against the local reseller with request of immediate replacement.
    Please advise

OK. Apple is not reading any of these posts for hardware issues. Nobody here works for Apple. We are other users just like you.
I am advising you to contact Apple - however you can - whereever you live - there is nothing anyone here can do to help you.

  • Bubble under the screen(original iPhone

I just noticed today that a bubble under the screen has appeared. At first I thought that it was on top of the screen so I try to clean it. My question is I bought it back in Feb 2008, checked the website and it is still under the limited warranty, does the warranty cover this? If so how do I get in contact with Apple to get this fixed?

Should still be covered under warranty. If you're near an Apple Store you can bring it in for repair/exchange. If you're not near one, you can call Apple Care and they'll send you a prepaid container in which to send it.

  • Specks under camera glass?

I've had 2 screens replaced for "dust under the screen" when I had the iPhone3G. I currently have an iPhone3GS, it's also now getting small bits of dust under the screen but now I've got 2 small specs under the glass covering the camera lens so that now when I take pics I get a large dark blur and a small black speck in every picture. Is this something covered under warranty?

    Hey,
The iPhones warranty covers "defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR." You can find the complete warranty information here: http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/iPhone3GSwarranty.pdf
If you haven't already, make a reservation with a Genius here: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
The Genius will take a looks at the iPhone and repair/replace it if needed.

  • Bubbles under 4s screen

I put a screen protector on my 4S.  Followed the instructions and attempted to get the air bubbles out from underneath the protector.  Several of the bubbles wouldn't push out, so I took off the protector and discovered they were actually under the glass.  Also the glass seems to be a little "sparkley".  Any advice on if this can be fixed?

All iPhone 4S have full warranty coverage. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.
