Iphone 3G Firmware 5.13.0.4

Is there any way we can downgrade the firmware 5.13.0.4 back. I have updated my iphone 3G OS 3.1.3 to OS 4.0 and the firmware was upgraded too. Now I need to downgrade the firmware for some special reasons. I was able to downgrade the OS 4.0 to OS 3.1.3 though.

yeah, you'll need to search the internet on downgrading iphone 3G to 3.1.3
basically all you need is the correct 3.1.3 firmware (might be in your recycle bin if not you can download it here)
hold shift when clicking restore & itll ask you which one you want to use (otherwise itll be the same 4.0.1 or whatever you used last)
let it restore & you need recboot to finish it (& libUSB too especially if your using vista)
when I did it I lost everything so make sure you back up everything 1st.but everything works at a reasonable speed again (& yes all your updated apps still work)

How do I update my iPhone 3G firmware but not to the latest version?
I currently am running 3.1 but would like to update it to the 4.1 version (not the latest 4.3 version). How do I do this? I have already gone online and downloaded the 4.1 firmware for iPhone 3G but not sure how to install it. I unzipped the file then tried to do the Shift>Update trick but none of the downloaded files could be selected. Am I doing something wrong?

There is no official way to do what you want, that's why the files can't be selected. iOS 4.2.1 is the last officially signed firmware available for your phone. If you want to install any other firmware you'll have to go elsewhere for instructions as such cannot be discussed here, per this forum's terms of use, sorry.

  • New Iphone baseband firmware has killed all GPS location software.

Are apple aware that the new iphone modem firmware update has effectively broken the iphone 3gs as far as GPS location goes. I have looked around on various forums and on the tomtom forum there are lots of people in the same situation.
    http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-iphone-navigator/22273-ios4-1-4-upgrade-no-gp s-fix-iphone-3g.html
I have not seen evidence of apple acknowledging the issue...so dont know if they are even aware of the problem.

I'm getting very interested in GPS problems across the iPhone range. Ive got a 3GS and the GPS satellite fix stopped working completely recently. A fix identified using jailbreak and an ssh terminal tells me a good proportion of these problems are with locationd, the gps process in the iPhone, or more accurately, I think that it's possible for some of the data this process uses to become corrupted; the "fix" involves stopping the process and deleting the data it uses. On restart, locations is forced to rebuild the data, and everything then works.
I suspect this is true across the iPhone range - and worse, I think that the backup function in iTunes actually backs up the bad data. Thus, when you restore from backup, you actually put the problem back in! Either that, or GPS cache data isnt deleted when the iphone is restored.
What we need is an option in iTunes, or the iPhone settings, to clear GPS ephemeris and related data down and restart locationd: this will save apple a fortune in support at genius bars, as I reckon everyone who is getting a replacement is just getting a reblanked refurbished iPhone with no hardware fixes - they could be turning them around in the back of the stores!
We need to get some group pressure together to get an answer out of apple on this really - they do seem to have an approach which has much in common with the way the UK banks were dealing with overdraft fees - if you complained, they refunded just to keep you quiet and make sure you didn't shout. If this issue is an underlying gps driver or application demon issue, they should give us a way to work around the issue.

Well, you're timing is perfect then   Are you eligible for any upgrade pricing from your service provider?
I skipped over the iPhone 4s, and I am eligible for full upgrade pricing in almost exactly one month from yesterday, so I will be moving to an iPhone 5 next month.

  • Upgrading iPhone 4 firmware yields error -5000 during initial backup step

I am trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 firmware from v4.3.5 to v5.0.1 as offered by iTunes (v10.5.2.11 running on Windows 7).
When I do so, I first get a notification, that iTunes is first backing up all phone data in order to be able to restore it to the phone after the upgrade. After a few minutes I then get an alert popup, that the backup failed with error -5000 and the warning, that if I choose to continue, I will loose all data from my iPhone. At this point of course I always choose to abort (I repeated the process 3 times now, each time with the same result).
What is this "error -5000" and how can I fix or avoid it?  BTW: the computers HD has >75 GB left, so it can't be a space issue...
    Michael
PS.: I thought I bought me an apple product to exactly avoid this kind of hassle and cryptic error messages...

I did as instructed (with mixed feeling I may add), but - alas - with the ame result, i.e. also with MSSE real time protection disabled I am getting the same "error -5000". I even rebooted (and then checked the setting again) to make sure it was really disabled before trying again.
    Other options or suggestions?
    Michael

  • IPhone 3G firmware 3.0 Youtube cannot connect

After restoring my iPhone 3g with firmware version 3.0 beta 2, my Youtube application no longer works. When I select the application it loads up fine but it hangs at the home screen for about a good minute trying to search for a connection. I am usually either connected by wifi or 3g so I see no reason why this shouldn't work since I restored my iPhone several times yesterday because of this issue. However, when I restored my iPhone one last time before I went to bed last night, the Youtube app worked, flawlessly. When I awoke this morning, all of these problems surfaced once again.
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Thank you both for your quick responses. I'll be sure to post this question in the link provided.

  • IPhone 3g Firmware v.2.1 Email Encoding Russian Cyrillic

I am posting my results for successfully sending Russian text in an e-mail message from the IPhone 3g to Outlook Express 6.0, in a post with a more searchable subject line (as there doesn't seem to be much info out there regarding this).
Far below is the complete e-mail header (with my sending/receiving accounts disguised), sent from an Iphone (Firmware = 2.1) at the ATT store today. Note that I sent the e-mail from my GMail account to my Hotmail account using a SMTP server. The Russian language e-mail received in my Hotmail account by POP server was successfully and automatically read with Outlook Express 6.00. E-mail format received was UTF-8. Encoding does not appear to be configurable with the IPhone (at least at this time).
Note that a previous try a few weeks ago at the ATT Store with Firmware 2.0 did not result in Russian language e-mail with a useable encoding (was sent iso-2022-jp for some crazy reason) - but Firmware 2.1 was successful and seems to have fixed the bug.
Note that regarding UTF-8 (from Wikipedia): "UTF-8 can encode any Unicode character, avoiding the need to figure out and set a "code page" or otherwise indicate what character set is in use, and allowing output in multiple languages at the same time." So it seems like UTF-8 is a good choice.
Now I feel safe to buy an Iphone 3g next week. Your success or failure may vary. Comments and experiences please. Don't forget to post your e-mail headers and details to help us all!
    Enjoy!

I understand what you are saying. I would truly prefer to use KOI8-R encoding (described in your link) as I always have done for e-mail communication in the Russian Language. However, I can also understand how it might be advantageous to implement UTF-8 in the IPhone, as it is one encoding standard to be used for most (if not all) of the odd-character foreign languages. For me, UTF-8 and v.2.1 firmware appears to make the IPhone useable, and makes the difference to me in a buy/no buy scenario. Future upgrades of the firmware could address "other" encoding formats - and that will just fine with me. Probably Apple needed a quick fix to make the IPhone work in Russia (started selling them there in October). Now if someone with a Russian IPhone 3g will verify the encoding format(s) available to them it would be interesting.

Delete your .ipsw file(s) and try updating again (this re-downloads iOS 5.1.1).  You will find the file(s) at one of the following locations:

i just upgraded my iphone 4 firmeware from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 and after it restarted it says that the sim card doese not appear to be supported.  i already went to the att store and they inserted a new card and tried to activate it and it says the same thing.  my phone work great before the upgrade to the firmware and i read that lots of other people have had the same problem and brought there pnones into an apple store and had them replaced due to the faulty upgrade. what can you do for me

This is a user to user help forum only, so no one here can do anything for you except provide recommendations.
Have you tried restoring your iPhone with iTunes?
If so with no change, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Solutions for issues on iPhones with firmware 3.0

Don't know if these issues - flaws and fixes have been addressed in this forum, but here it is.
    Issues:
Since updating to firmware 3.0 on my 2G and 3G iPhone, I have noticed the following problems on both iPhones:
    1) slow response, faster battery drain, general erratic behavior
    2) GPS is inaccurate, long time to connect to satellites for GPS tracking, was accurate when on firmware 2.2.1 using Map app (only on 3G or maybe 3GS iPhones too)
    Fixes:
    1) turns out that the cause of the first issue on both iPhones (at least for me) was when the iPhones updated to firmware 3.0 - PUSH email service was automatically enabled. Disabling PUSH email service to FETCH email service in preference did the trick. While your there, scroll to the bottom and chose Advance then choose each email address and change to Fetch as well for each email address listed. Yes this will disable Push email, but will temporarily fix this issue until the firmware fix comes out.
    2) this issue is really addressed for 3G and 3GS iPhones with GPS capabilities only. To make the GPS accurate again and connect with tracking satellites, turn off 3G networking service. Probably another firmware issue which causes a GPS - 3G network conflict, but once the 3G network service is disabled, the GPS worked accurately again and connected to tracking satellites instantaneously. GPS accuracy worked flawlessly with Navigon app mapping when 3G network service is disabled. When you need the 3G service just activate again.
These simple fixes might not work for everyone, but try it out, it worked for me.

    and by the way...
I found out that if you push Play, FM, Record and the 5-way-button-down; it resets the player.
You don't have to wait for the battery to run down.

I still have my own topic unanswered about the file sorting in the player, tho....:(

  • What composite video cables work with iphone 3GS firmware 3.0??

I want to buy the cheapest possible AV composite cable for my iphone 3GS with firmware 3.0.
What cables can I buy that'll work with these requirements??
    Thanks!

You need to purchase the Apple Component AV Cable or the Apple Composite AV Cable. 3rd party cables won't work with the iPhone - there's an encryption chip in the the Apple cables that is required.

  • IPhone 4 firmware update failure.

    Hello all.
I have tried to update my iPhone 4 (32G, 4.0.2 firmware)to the latest firmware (4.1) but I continue to get this message:
"The software for the iPhone "Stuart" was corrupted during download.
Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
I have tried what it says, but that does not seem to help. I have also "repaired" (after the second time it failed) iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Software Update but this hasn't helped either.
Any replies/ help would be much appreciated, thank you.
    - Stuart

I phoned up Apple because I have the two year AppleCare cover, so I'm getting a new iPhone 4 sent out and I have to give them my broken one back so I cannot try your method.
I think your method may have worked, but I cannot say for sure obviously because, well, I have to send my iPhone back now.
I'm sure some of these posts will come in handy to others, even though my problem has not been solved.
I would also like to note that I tried downloading the firmware with a wired connection (on my 5th attempt) and that didn't work.
Thank you to everyone that posted, it is much appreciated even though my issue hasn't been resolved.
