Iphone 3g frozen midway through upgrade

Was upgrading to 4.3.2. Now completely frozen with no buttons working. How do I unfreeze it? Screen has Apple and horizontal progress bar but nothing is moving

Yes and that is when it froze.
But I found advice that said hold the main on/off button and the home button for 10 seconds together and that gave what looked like a complete hard reset.
In the final stages of a sync, so all looking good.
Thanks for responding ...

• Iphone 4 frozen trying to upgrade to ios 5.01

Try to upgrade iphone 4 to 5.01 and the screen froze before the upgrade was over. The phone doesn't respond at any key. The screen shows the logo and an empty progress bar. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

I found this in another thread and it worked for me.
Just an update for you all.
I contacted apple-care and had no luck (after 2hrs on phone they ended the conversation with "we've never seen this before, we'll do some research and get back to you"). That was 2 mths ago and I've not heard back so I assume they're still researching???
Anyway I discovered my next door neighbor is a mac wiz (never knew this until the other week) and he fixed it in about 5 minutes. Here is what he did (so he says):
* Make sure iPhone is not also trying to sync contact from another source (like Exchange, Google mail, etc..)
* Plug iPhone in to computer and turn off contact syncing then sync again
* Disconnect iPhone
* Quit Address book, iTunes, iCal etc..
* go to (user home folder)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook and move all the contents of that folder with the EXCEPTION of the Metadata folder to your desktop (in case you need to restore them).
* open iSync from your applications, go to Preferences, and click reset Sync History.
* Reopen AddressBook
* Connect iPhone to iTunes and set up your iPhone to sync contacts as you want them.
I hope this helps everyone - it worked for me!

• The movie I rented has frozen midway through, the screen is black and won't play. What di I do?

Can someone tell me how to fix.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

the screen on my iPhone is frozen and I can access apps through Siri. The touch screen works within the apps but not in the home screen. What do I do?

Have you tried a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?

• My iphone is frozen since I tried upgrading on itunes

my iphone is frozen on a screen with an apple and a bar under it since I tried to upgrade with itunes. How do i get it to work again?

Put your iPhone into the recovery mode and try to update it again, to do so follow these steps:
Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.
Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
Step Three
As soon as the screen goes black release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
The iPhone will look like this:

• I'm still struggling with being able to sync ipad3 and iphone 4s to itunes after upgrading software to ios 6. I've gone through all the recommendations by Apple and suggestions from other forums and nothing seems to work. Help!!!!!

I'm still struggling with being able to sync ipad3 and iphone 4s to itunes after upgrading software to ios 6. I've gone through all the recommendations by Apple and suggestions from other forums and nothing seems to work. Help!!!!!

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call? You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

• Error message when updating to IOS5.0.1, now Iphone completely frozen

I tried to update my iPhone 4 to IOS 5.0.1 earlier, it did the whole backing up iphone thing, then preparing to restore, then an error message came up saying iphone cannot be updated. I clicked OK then nothing happened for about 15 minutes so I disconnected the phone from the computer. It is now frozen on the screen that has a usb cable and the iTunes logo, i have tried to reset it using the home button and lock button but it gets to the apple logo then screen goes black and nothing happens. have tried charging it but the battery was full before this happened and it is still just locked on the iTunes and usb screen. any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same problem (or very similar) with my iPhone4.
Came home, plugged it in and was prompted to update to iOS 5.01.
Midway through the iPhone restarted and an error occured, which I hit ok and more information.
It was frozen on the apple logo for 20-30 minutes, so I disconnected it and tried to reset it. Only thing that worked is the Power + Home button for 10 seconds.
So then I plug back in and do the Restore.... only...
I get the message:
iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1603).
[OKAY] [MORE INFORMATION]
The screen is now frozen on the apple logo just like before.
Please help?

• My iPhone is frozen. Troubleshooting doesn't work

My shiny new iPhone that I waited in line for on SF on Friday is iFrozen.
I have about 30 threaded text conversations, 30 contacts, 3 email accounts, 20 photo's, 600 songs, 2 TV shows and 1 movie.
I understand photo's, songs, video and contacts will synch back to my phone if reset.
The device is not an iPod, it's a Phone, which means I would HATE to lose my threaded text conversations and have to setup up my email accounts AGAIN (after 3 days of use).
iPod hard reset? No big deal, less is lost (sometimes).
Phone hard reset? Not good at all.
On top of these issues, Safari has crashed on me at least 7 times and while I was playing music on the ipod app i decided to hop over to my text messages to send a message. Once I got in the text message app the ipod app crashed (i.e. the music in my car stopped playing).
Crashes and now it's frozen.
Restarting (doesn't work):
Try restarting iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Unfreeze (doesn't work):
Does iPhone appear frozen or stuck? Try pressing and holding the Home button for 6 seconds to close a frozen application. Then try restarting iPhone again.
Is the "reset" option in troubleshooting a hard reset?
On my Windows Mobile phone I can pop out the battery and it will recover through the safe mode boot without having to hard reset the device.
Is there another way to unfreeze this thing?
Current iPhone state: Displaying Home screen, touch unresponsive, on/off switch unresponsive, home button unresponsive.
Strangely iTunes still recognizes the phone when i connect it to my Mac and goes through the entire synch process fine.
Why isn't there a soft reset in iTunes to send to the phone?
Phone calls go straight to voicemail.
Best,
Rob
(good thing I bought 2 8GB's on Friday in SF)

No, get the screen fixed.

OK a bit of success over the weekend. Not sure if it will help you guys. So i have an IPHONE 3gs and it would not play any music through the JBL but it would ring (through the JBL speaker) and charge while connected.
I sync'ed through itunes and made sure i had the latest version of both itunes and the IOS on the phone. Then pushed some podcasts and albums down from my computer to the iphone through the computer.
This must have sone something as now everythign works fine. all radio and music apps now play through the JBL.
Hope this helps.

• IPhone 4S Frozen whilst updating 10.5.1.42

I have been trying to update my phone to my iTunes, and I was returned with error 1603, and now my iPhone is frozen on the download screen of update.
I cannot turn it off, I hold the off button down for 10 seconds plus and nothing happens.
When I connect my phone to my computer, iTunes doesn't recognise that there is a device connected, and when I run diagnostics through iTunes, it says no iPhone found.
The phone is completely frozen.

The same thing is happening to me (same itunes version, windows 7 and iphone 4s).
I found that if you reboot and try and reboot and try and reboot and try and reboot and try it will eventually work once. but then on the next sync it hangs again.
also it seems to hang in different places (the progress bar is never in the same place when it hangs).
Let me know if you figure out a better way to fix it.

• I bought iphone 4s from us and upgrade it to IOS 5.01 and i cannot activate with etisalat sim as it requires the original carrier sim

i bought iphone 4s from us and upgrade it to IOS 5.01 and i cannot activate with etisalat sim as it requires the original carrier sim

The unlocked iPhone 4S did not go on sale in the US until 11/11, and then only through Apple.com in the US.
I don't know if it's available at retail yet, but I don't believe it is.
As you've been told, you purchase a phone locked to AT&T. You can NOT activate it or use it on any other network. AT&T does not unlock iPhones for any reason. Return it to the store you bought it from and get your money back.

• When I try to restore, iTunes crashes midway through.

I am trying to restore my iPod touch 4th generation 32gb using windows xp and iTunes 10.5.2, my iPod is running iOS 5.0.1 and every time I try to restore, iTunes crashes midway through. Help?

Any error number given?
To make sure the firmware file is not damaged do this, copied from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 , Advanced section
Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)
iTunes uses "ipsw" files to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them, renaming them, or moving the file to a different directory. This will cause iTunes to download a new copy of the IPSW. When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. If removing the .ipsw file does not resolve a user-specific restore issue, then the issue is caused by other user-specific security software settings or iTunes preferences. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
Windows XP

• How many iphones i can carry through the customs clearance to russia?

How many iphones i can carry through the customs clearance to russia?

I believe Apple's limit is 2 phones per purchase, at least during the first few weeks of a release. That's not to say you could not do 2 purchases of 2 phones.
How many lines to do you have elligible for upgrade?

• All day calendar events not being displayed in the notification centre for iphone 5 post ios 7 upgrade. Please help. Is it a bug?

All day calendar events not being displayed in the notification centre for iphone 5 post ios 7 upgrade. Please help. Is it a bug?
With iOS 6, the all day events showed up in the notification centre but it lacks in the upgrade iOS 7.

Same problem here. Some people pointed out that all-day events do show up in their notification center, but that seems only to be the case for birthdays (and only as text like the weather). I've tried it myself on my iPhone and iPad and it did work for birthdays but not for any other all-day events. I already sent this to Apple as a product feedback as well, as should everyone of you. The more people mention it, the faster Apple's going to fix this issue. In its current state, notification center is not a very helpful feature in my opinion. There's absolutely no point in not showing all-day events in the 'today' calendar overview.
Here's a link to the product feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I posted my message in the iPhone section since I couldn't find a page specifically dedicated to iOS 7.
I really love the look & feel of iOS 7 but it's kinda sad to see notification center not tapping its full potential.
Cheers!

I have an older iPhone (3gs) and need to upgrade to a newer phone (4S). I need to get my NOTES, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, PICTURES, etc backed up on iTunes so I can get that data loaded onto the new phone. But not sure how to do that. When I open iTunes it has a button that say "Back Up iPhone", but I'm not sure what that does. When I go into the sync options it say I have another user account and asks me if I want to merge of replace. I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that. Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.
