IPhone 3G keeps turning itself off and on by itself-Any advice how to stop?

Earlier today, I noticed that my iPhone 3G began cycling back and forth between the main menu and the screen that has the red slider button that you can push to turn the phone off. It is cycling back and forth on its own without any human touch whatsoever. It is going through the cycle every 30-45 seconds. If I turn the phone off using this screen, the phone turns itself back on. If I choose to ignore it, after about 30 or 45 seconds or so, it will go back to the main menu. I did a full restore and it is still doing the same thing. I have the settings for "Auto Lock" set to "Never" so I don't think it's a problem with that setting. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how I might address this problem?? THANKS for any help and/or suggestions on how to cure my problem without physically going to see an Apple Genius.

I have the exact same problem, the cycle is around 15 seconds.
The phone goes from standby to the 'slide to unlock' screen and then goes back to standby all on its own, and it does this continuously until it bleeds the battery dry - it's killing me as it keeps catching my eye when the phone's on my desk.
The following scenarios stop this happening.
- I switch the phone to silent (I'm using this as a stop gap solution).
- I'm playing music through the phone's speakers.
- I'm playing music through headphones.
- It's charging.
- It's connected to my laptop.
I've tried all the usual stuff, rebooting, restoring, airport mode, no wifi, switching off all notifications, removing all 3rd party apps, turning of all push/email related programs etc...
I'm pretty stumped to think what's causing this, when it started happening I'd done nothing new/different to the phone (no new apps installed, I'd not synced it, knowingly dropped it, had a issue plugging in the charger or headphones).
I'm at the point where I think I'm going to need to go to the O2 shop (one of my least favourite things to do) and experience customer service...there must be some clever dick out there that knows how to resolve this....?????
TIS (hopefully)
P.s. I've posted this in another thread on the same subject, just trying to increase my chances of it being seen.

My iPhone 3GS keeps turning itself off all the time the power/sleep button dosent work so it's quiet annoying having to plug it in all the time dose anyone have a fix for this?

The "fix" is to get the phone repaired.  There's no magic solution for a broken phone.
Bring your phone ant $149 to Apple for an out of warranty replacement, or find a 3rd party repair shop near you.

my iphone 5 keeps randomly shutting off and won't turn back on unless I plug it in to the charger

I'm experiencing the same issue. It's one thing to have to re-power up but to not be able to do so without plugging in the charger when the battery is substantially full, is a real drag.

  • I get a blue screen whenever I unlock it and I have to keep turning it off and on to get the slide to unlock to appear

Have iPod touch and I get a blue screen whenever I unlock it & I have to keep turning it off and on to get the slide to unlock to appear.

    Reset the Device:
Hold the power button and the home button down until the device shuts off, then power it back on and see if the problem is resolved.
That won't remove any data. I hope that works.

  • My iPhone 4S keeps turning itself off :/

I have an iPhone 4S, it keeps turning itself of on its own and crashing. I've restated it, reset it and been to an apple shop but the Genius Bar told me that this is a software problem which they can't do anything about. They've offered me a refurbished iPhone 4S but I would have to pay £180 for it. Is there anything else I can do? I know they've admitted that it's a software malfunction and I'm really not happy they won't replace the damaged product free of charge. Just wondering if there's anything else I could try. Thanks

Exactly the same problem and answer by Apple. Disgusted so went and brought a Samsung. Problem solved.

  • I HAVE AN IPHONE 4 I TURNED IT OFF AND NOW I TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WILL NOT WORK ONLY SHOW THE APPLE ICO

Can anyone help me how to make my iphone 4 work I turned it off and now I turned it back on and it does not work it only shows the APPLE icon on the screen it has being like that for past 9 hours.... HELP PLEASE

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart itself. Usually takes less than 15 seconds of holding both buttons.
If you decide your iPhone is not working properly, and you decide to Restore your iPhone Firmware then do this. Open iTunes on computer, then connect iPhone to computer, then hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.

  • Hands Free Mode keeps turning itself on.  How do I stop it?

I have repeatedly turned off hands on mode (Settings/Device), but it keeps turning itself back and the stupid voice wants me to say "Hi Galaxy" or asks if I'm having a nice day.  It may have been a nice day, but not after hearing that voice.  This seems to be associated with receiving a notification.
How do I turn off this feature such that it only comes on when I want it to?

I'm sorry to hear about this issue that's occuring with your phone jstevens8352. Have you tried adjusting the notifications on your device? I have listed them below:
      • From the home screen, select Apps (located in the lower-right).
      • From the Apps tab, select Settings.
      • From the My device tab, select Sound.   • Select Notifications.    • Select a notification then select OK.
Do you have any apps that may be tied into this setting? If so, please temporarily remove. I would also recommend safe mode? Put the phone into safe mode and test the device, then disable the setting. Here is a link to the steps http://vz.to/1hCWfLm .

I'll charge my phone up overnight then a couple of hours into the next day the battery wil be down to about 20% then it will say I only have 10% left even though I will have 20% if you see what I mean? And then to top it off it turns itself off and won't let me recharge!!

    Hi there glee154!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPhone. The article is about troubleshooting a multitude of iPhone hardware issues, and can be found right here:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
The specific section you will want to reference can be found here:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • IPhone 4 keeps turning itself off - Help !

So I've had this problem with my iPhone 4 for months now, and lately it seems to be getting worse. It used to randomly turn itself off when it had loads of battery at any time, and lately it's getting worse and worse. I take it off charge and it either turns off straight away, or it turns off within a few minutes.
When trying to turn it back on, the apple logo just appears and then it turns off again, and I cannot turn it back on properly until it is put back on charge. Even at that, sometimes when put back on charge the apple logo just appears and disappears sometimes, and doesn't actually turn back on.
I thought the battery was the issue so I had it replaced, but when I did so, the problem reappeared a day later. As I'm writing this I can't turn my phone on, but I'm almost 100% sure the software version on it is 6.1.2 if that's any help.  Somebody help me! Nobody else seems to be having this problem as far as I can tell either, so thanks in advance if somebody is able to put me out of my misery.

I would ask for another battery replacement just to ensure you didn't get a defective one, and if that doesn't do it you have some type of hardware problem on your hands.   I doubt it's a software issue - rarely does a phone just shut off like you're explaining unless it's physical hardware.

  • Iphone 4 keeps turning itself off.  no matter if i have a full charge it turns off whether I am texting or using any app.

    Hello,
My Iphone 4 turns itself off constantly.  Whether it is fully charged, 80 % or anywhere in between it shuts off and I need to hook it up to the charger to get it to open up again.  What can I do to fix this?

Yes, I have.  I still have the same problem.  My phone won't stay on for any length of time.  I just updated to the latest iOS as well, it shut itself off in less than one minute.  I have an appointment this coming thursday at the Apple Store.

  • Why does the EQ (equalizer) function in the iPod settings (in my iPhone 4) keep turning itself off??

I'll notice my music sounds flat, too much treble, etc... go into iPod settings and sure enough the equalizer is set of OFF again.  I reset it to rock or bass boost or whatever.  And it then it might be another hour or 3 days later but it turns itself off again.  There doesnt seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason as to when it does this or why.  Annoying.   Any ideas?
    I have iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1

    bump... any ideas please?

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
