Iphone 3G Manage Music/Videos 2 computers

I have a desktop as my main computer but on the road I have my notebook. For years I have been using my ipod nano with both my computers. However I just recently got an iphone 3g and I come to learn that when I connect it to my notebook I get a message that it is already synced with another itunes and that all content will be erased if I continue. My question if I where to sync it with my notebook how much of the iphone would get erased? would I loose my apps?

I'm pretty sure that since you can only sync iphone to one itunes library at a time, then you would lose everything form the other library when you sync.
That should include music, movies, tv show, podcasts, audiobooks, applications and ringtones.
I have not tried this myself so I cannot be sure, but that makes sense to me.
Hopefully someone who has experienced this can chime in.

  • Cannot select "Manually manage music & videos" without erasing??

I seem to be having an issue with selecting "Manually manage music & videos" from iTunes 11.  I have always used the same computer/iTunes to put music on my phone but ever since downloading iTunes 11, I can no longer do so. In the summary section for my phone I have tried to reselect that option and hitting apply but get a message
"This iPhone is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
Does anyone know if there is a way around this/why it thinks it is a different iTunes library?  Please help!

  • Something I dont understand...(manually manage music/videos)

It seems that I accidentally made a mistake at some point and wasnt aware they were all connected in this regards.
I manually manage all my Music (songs), Movies & TV Shows on the iPad.
So i select and drag the content I want. (im still not keen on "syncing music & videos).
At any rate I was purchasing a few books off iBooks and i wanted to sync them back to the Mac I port my iPod with.
I realized "Books" werent synced to my Mac or to the iPad so I selected sync Books and applied.
During that process it removed all my manually added music & videos.
Then disabled the Manually Manage music & videos check box in my iPad preferences.
Well it doesnt say anything about books...is there any way to change this as I dont have a lot of books and would like them to be synced back and forth between iPad and my Mac.
But want to retain my personal music and video collection .....
    thank you.

In the early days I used the same technique you did but soon found it did not suit my usage patterns so I opted to 'manually' manage my music through playlists and by individually checking the videos I wish to have loaded so I leave the box 'Manually manage...' unchecked.
I create playlists and sync only those playlists I wish to be on a given device. For example, my 32GB 3GS iPhone, my 32GB iPhone 4, and my iPad contain the same music and the major playlist is named 32GB. For my iPad I currently use the 32GB playlist because I only have 20GB of music.
I also have a similar playlist for my old 16GB 3G--yes, that playlist is named 16GB. I also have individual playlists both plain and smart set up for each device and I select them, too, but all songs that are on a given device are in the 16GB or 32GB playlists. Since the song only has to be on the device one time placing it in multiple playlists on the device does not place additional copies of the song on the device.
To sync by playlist you connect your iPad, select it in the devices area to the left, click on the Music tab and check on Sync Music. In the box below the Sync Music you select 'Selected playlists, artists, and genres'. I only use playlists, but the others work as well.
For Movies you select the Movies tab. Select 'Sync Movies'. You can chose the 'Automatic' mode but for me none of the options work so I leave the automatic box unchecked and then individually check the movies I wish to go to my iPad.
It is simple this way and I found it to be much more efficient than manually managing music videos via the checkbox.
Books can be handled in the same manner via the Books tab.

  • How to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune?

Can anyone tell me how to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune? Because I can't see the Music Videos and the Podcast section in iTune under Device when my iPod is connected to my computer. Thanks

iTunes doesn't have a separate *Music Videos* section. In iTunes these are just part of the main Music library. To manually drag a music video to yout iPod drag it onto the iPod or a compatible playlist. To remove, look for it in Music on the iPod and delete.
I think podcasts only work properly when placed on the iPod via the sync tabs. If you manually drag and drop then the files may get treated as general audio & video files.

  • HT1202 Manually Manage Music/ Videos with multiple computers

I recently got a new iphone 4s and when it was set up I made sure the manually manage music part was on, I added my music and everything worked fine.
I'm abroad now and wanted to delete and change some of my music but the manually manage box is no longer ticked and I get the warning saying "Your phone is Synced with another iTunes Library do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this itunes libary". How can I get around this I dont want to lose all my music!!!!
    Please Help!

As the message infers, you can only sync your iDevice to
a single iTunes library.  The only way around this, which is
of no real use to you now but for future reference, is to have
your iTunes library (entire iTunes folder) an a separate hard
drive and carry it around where ever you go.  Any computer
you have will need to be set up to connect its iTunes to that
    library.
The one caveat of this is that is backups of the iDevice.
Each computer will have a different backup file depending on
when you synced to the computers (backups are stored
    in ~/Library/Application Support/Mobile Sync/ Backup on
the computer not in iTunes library).  Where this is problematic
is if you need to  do a restore and you only have a computer
available with an old backup and not the most recent.
The other problem will be if you manage Address Book, Calendars,
etc. different on different computers.  Things can get jumbled, lost,
    or just plain add duplicates.
As for your current situation, there really isn't much you can do.

  • How can I sync 2 different iPhones with different music, videos, ringtones?

My problem has already existed for quite a while, but I didn´t find a solution myself. Problem: My wife and I each have an iPhone 3G. I do the sync for both using iTunes. I start the PC with my account for syncing my iPhone and for my wife I start the PC with my wife´s account. But nevertheless the iTunes mediathek shows the same music etc. So both of us get one´s own and the partner´s music on the iphone. But we want to have different ones. Does anybody know a solution for that problem, so that each of us can have his/her own music, videos, ringtones etc.?????
Thank you very much for your help!
    Regards
    Klaus

Let me see if I understand you correctly. You are using two different users on your PC and syncing each phone on a single account? If that is the case, each one of the iTunes can have a different library for it. If you do that, then you can sync whatever music you want to each, or if for some reason you have the same library on each of the users, you can do as the other poster suggests and that is create different playlists for each user and only sync that playlist to each phone. Playlists are how I did the sync for my original phone, however since I got my 3G last year, I just sync my entire library. It isn't that big.

  • Why does iTunes send music via iCloud to my ipad and iPhone, but not music videos

When I get music via itunes, icloud pushes them to my ios devices, but music videos do not.

Were the music videos purchased with a different Apple ID than the one you are using for iTunes Match?  If so, I don't believe they are eligible (same is true if the music video was not purchased from the iTunes Store).

  • IPhone library Management with 2 Computers

    Hi,
So here's my issue. I have a laptop and a desktop and right now my iPhone is synced with my laptop. I have downloaded songs legally from iTunes onto both computers. I can upload to my desktop the songs I download onto my laptop via the "transfer purchases" feature. However, I cannot download to my iPhone the songs on my desktop because you can only sync one library to the iPhone. So my question is how do I get the songs on my desktop onto my iPhone without having to burn a CD to transfer them to my laptop every time? There's gotta be a way to do this as many people must have this same issue. Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi alwmed,
well actually you can use your iphone. But your not syncin. what you do is you plug it in. chose not to sync the iphone, and then right click on the iphone in tunes, and chose transfer purchased content. this is great if you have say a computer at work, and a computer at home.
But there is an easer and better way; if your using itunes 9.0.2 sharing is built in. It's called "home sharing," Home sharing allows your computers to share music directly with each other. it can even be set up to automatically transfer new purchases to the other computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 is apple easy step by step guide to setup and use home sharing.
http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-Home-Sharing-in-iTunes is basically the same thing as the above guide, but it has a video on how to set it up.
it's important to note home sharing only works if both computers are on the same network.
I hope this answer your question. If it dose, please remember to mark this thread as answered by clicking on the green start above your first post.

  • IPhone not recognizing music & video content

Just after updating to iOS4 my iPhone suddenly stopped recognizing its audio and video content (the ipod app reports 'no content'). However, it does recognize that it has that amount of drive space occupied by "Other" items (when viewed in iTunes.) Strangely when in iTunes the media content can be accessed on the phone.
Also whenever I reconnect the iPhone to the imac, iTunes reports that it can't read the content and requires that the phone be restored. This I have done 3 times now all to no effect.
Can't seem to find any similar problems on the forums, any bright ideas on what might have gone wrong and how to fix it? can only think it has something to do with the new iPhone OS...
    Thanks!

I have the same issue. I updated my OS to OS 4, then synced my music and apps. I can see the music in iTunes when I browse my iphone when it is connected to my MacBook Pro, but the "iPod" app shows no content and none of the buttons to respond to touching on that app. To test I bought a song and it was downloaded and it still says I have no content.

  • Manually manage music & videos

Hi, I accidentally ticked this in the option section of my device in my itunes account and now I can't untick it.
I want to move across a purchase from my itunes account to my ipod and although I've sync'd I think this must be stopping it moving across.
Thanks for any help you can offer

On the iPhone Summary screen, there is an option to sync only checked songs and videos. The only problem I have with that is the Video tab has its own set of checks that don't seem to correlate with the checks in the library.

  • Will apple ever allow iPhone to manage music without connecting to iTunes on a computer?

I record lots of music with my friends and we usually send them over through social media file transfers.  My current phone detects the music once downloaded and adds it to my library for playing.  Will Apple allow this feature on the iPhone, I am getting one and I am really concerned about this feature, as it is very hectic to keep on connecting your phone to a computer every time you would like to add a song to the default music player's library.

I'm afraid Apple won't allow to add/edit music directly on the iPhone. At least, in the nearest future.

  • Manually manage music and videos of iPhone 4s using pc

My computer crashed and clean reinstalled the operating system on my PC, I had to reauthorize the computer.
Now I installed iTunes and when I check Manually manage music & videos, it tells me:
that it's synced with other another iTunes library.
The Only option is erase and sync or Cancel
I had the computer backed up so that the good news, so I tried coping the files from the back up and putting it in my PC but did't work.
I went into preferences and under advanced changed the iTunes Media folder location to the hard hard drive that has my back up.
Thinking that would do it, it didn't work?
    Please help!
    Any suggestions

From your pc back up find the iTunes library and copy the entire library to your new computer.
Copy over your photos too plus any other important documents.
Once your iTunes library is on your new computer your should be able to start iTunes and sync to the new computer. Yes you will get the message that this is a new computer but the music etc. is the same as what was on the old computer.

  • Manual managing music on 2 computers?

with my ipod I can manually manage music on multiple PC's
on my wife's Iphone it goes to auto sync on the 2nd PC
    am I doing something wrong?

Since disk mode is required for this, probably for security reasons which is not a concern with an iPod only without internet access.
what would be the purpose of manually managing then?
Good question, since the primary benefit when doing so with an iPod is transferring iTunes content from an iTunes library on more than one computer. Some habits are harder to break than others and for those who prefer manually dragging songs to their iPod, the option to do the same with an iPhone is available event though this can be done with an iTunes library on a single computer only. If you are manually managing music and video with an iPhone and the iPhone is restored with iTunes if wanted or needed, you must remember which music and video was available on your iPhone and manually drag it back to the iPhone. With syncing, when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, your selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes are pre-selected since this is included with your iPhone's backup When purchasing music direct with the iPhone, the music will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the next time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. No so with manually managing music videos. Manual means manual all the way.

  • Getting music videos onto iPhone 4

I would like to play downloaded music videos through a home theatre product i have recently purchased and I've having a bit of trouble....
Firstly, i have never had problems playing 'normal' mp4 style videos which i have in iTunes, and have copied over to my iPhone 4- These can be found in the iPod mode under 'Videos' and play fine.
I tried to get music videos onto my phone directly from my mac- (these appear both in my music library in iTunes and in the 'Music Videos' Playlist), but when i try syncing it to my iPhone when its connected it appears to sync, but afterwards i cannot find it anywhere on the iPhone!
I though i had cracked it then, when i downloaded 3/4 music videos directly from the itunes store on my iPhone 4, as they downloaded with no problems, and suddenly appeared under a new category in the video option (in iPod mode on iPhone 4) labelled music videos. I was chuffed and this worked fine, until i synced with itunes on my mac again (for backup purposes) and it decided to get rid of them from my phone. Once more I'm back to square one, with the music videos on my Mac fine, but with no way of getting them back on my iPhone4. I'm sure I'm being an idiot and there is something simple I'm missing but i just cant work it out....
    please please help!!!

I am having the same issue. I have tried reinstalling itunes, I have wiped my phone and set it up again. I don't know what else to do.
