IPhone 3G - OS 4.0.1 tested

Tested and it's perfect full operator signal full wifi signal and software response time too fast. Thank you apple you are the best keep it up.

OS 4.0.1 has NO improvement on speed for the iPhone 3G. It is basically unusable. If you're happy with your 3G on OS4, then you're just a REALLY patient person and can handle the ridiculous lagging.
The signal display update has NO affect on you actual signal that you had before. There is no change in the hardware. Apple did this to take pressure of a significant hardware fault (antenna) in the iPhone 4. If Apple acknowledged the hardware fault then there would be a mass recall and hence MASSIVE revenue loss. So instead they pretend it was a display fault in their signal algorithm. Why didn't they find this before their issues with iPhone 4?! Did they not test their own developments!?
If you're using a 3G stick to OS3.1.3 - just be careful as some apps now only support OS4 and up!
If you're looking at a iPhone 4 - get the free cover as this is a real fix to the antenna problem. With a cover you'll enjoy the best the phone can offer! AND, it is powerful enough to run the OS4 properly!

Hmm.. Thank you for the response.
Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

itunes will not sync music to my ipod touch or iphone 3g. Passes all diagonostic tests. copies apps but not music. Any Ideas?

just bought iphone 4 today from verizon and had the same problem. this is my 1st smartphone ever. apps all synced when i plugged it in to my computer except the music. this is what i did and it worked. plugged in phone to computer. then under the devices tab i clicked on the music tab. if you look to the bottom right of the itunes page there will be two tabs you can click on. one says settings and the other one says autofill. i clicked on the autofill and then it just started syncing. that was it. i'm not a tech guy by any means. just kinda of got lucky. i hope this helps you out. good luck!

  • IPhone 5, beats S3 in drop test

Dont think I'll be running a case on my iPhone 5. The i5 survived a very realistic drop test with minimal damage, while the Galaxy s 3 shattered.
    http://www.androidauthority.com/iphone-5-vs-samsung-galaxy-s3-drop-test-116898/
The funny thing this is from a fandroid site, you can almost feel the pain and disbelief in the guy in the videos face.

No, that should not happen. If all you did was a backup, or even a sync, the photos are not indexed as being imported. Many times I will decide not to import pictures on the phone if there are only a couple and I want them for some other reason. I will just close out the import utility and then sync the phone. I sync my phone daily, and if those pictures are still on the phone, then it will still start the import utility again the next time I connect the phone.
However, as a after thought, why not just try a screen shot, the content doesn't matter, then connect the phone and see if that will get it recognized.

  • Is it possible to use locked iPhone (without any SIM) as a testing device?

    Hey guys,
is it possible to use american iPhone (locked on AT&T) as a testing device with xcode for debugging apps?
I won't even insert any SIM in it, just need to know if it's possible, or the device must have signal? (I will activate the iPhone with official ATT sim, but then remove it)
    Thanks for your answers,

Pretend it is a touch. No signal so you can't test phone related code, otherwise yes you can use it for testing.

  • Optional iPhone welcome screen - specs, how to test?

So far i didn't found any info how to use this feature. First test with simple page with one image 640x640 was disaster, there was shown just part of image (half on width). So you need to prepare your webpage for iPhone 3G resolution (640x480).
And there was no way how to go past this screen (no button, nothing) - i need to force quit the app and relaunch it, then i saw standard UI of viewer.
Who designed this feature made imposible to test it properly - because this welcome screen is show just FIRST time when app is launched, i'll never see this welcome screen on my iPhone without complete restore of iPhone. Removing app and re-install don't help. We tested it now on few iPhones and we are running out of them now.

The iPhone welcome screen, which displays only the first time the app is launched, was inadvertently exposed to Pro customers. Enterprise publishers can use it to provide information about restoring purchases and so forth, but it requires the use of custom APIs to set up links. You can read more about the option here:

  • IPhone Signal Strengths - Measured Using Field Test Mode

What level of Rx field strengths are users seeing with their iPhone?
Typically I see -85 to -90 on my iPhone, however it randomly drops down to -110 to -114 for short periods of time. This happens even when I am in a stationary location. I get quite a few dropped calls, and I assume this happens when the signal drops to these low levels.Bob

got a new Phone out of apple and now i am able to get a signal at home -90 to-105 ish always got an edge conection though. Interestingly i was told by a Senior dide at apple that there have been a batch of dogey phones reliesed!! big of him! I hope its not weather related as its been clear and sunny here today as agianst throwing it down non stop for the last 2 weeks.

  • Iphone 5s not picking up home Wi-Fi and/or very poor signals even in downtown area

Switched to Verizon and bought IPhone 5s less than 3 weeks ago. It was fine the first week then suddenly it won't recognized my home wi-fi and got very poor wireless signal. I have my old IPhone 4s and it works fine like a charm for wi-fi. It keeps reloading and not pop up any wi-fi signals. I went to the mall and normally it should pop up multiple wi-fis but it didn't. However my ipad did. I keep trying to reboot it or even reset it to factory settings and still doesn't work. Then yesterday my calls keep dropping in the middle of business conversation. This is unacceptable and no one seems to be helpful at Verizon. I even took screen pictures throughout the day yesterday to show when suddenly my home wi-fi popped up and a minute later it disappear. This also a domino effect for my photo stream, icloud back up, and most importantly my data plan. Now I can't even use my paid home wi-fi and use up all my data plan with Verizon and none of them care. I almost feel like switching to other providers. I also see that this is somewhat common to IPhone 5s with their troubled software or signal chip but not getting help from Verizon is the worst.

I downloaded the Speedtest app on my iPhone and iPad and would randomly test one right after the other. I accumulated about 5 tests a day on each device over the course of 3 days. I set up an appointment at the Genius bar. I told the Genius that I set up my phone as new and then showed him my comparisons of the Speedtest on both devices. He handed me a new (non-refurbished because it hasn't been out for long) phone, no questions. Apparently it was a hardware issue and not an iOS 8 bug.

  • Photoshop to MXML to Web  to iPhone iPad

Finally Flash can dual render in both web(Flash) and iPhone or iPad(non Flash).
Works with Flex (I'm not releasing this until Adobe contacts me)
Backwards compatable with Flash (I'll launch this in the new year, any SWF file can convert to HTML)
Instant render, no compiling - change your FTML page and see the results
100% HTML and XML compliant - without HTML5
Visit: http://reshapemedia.com/ftml/ on both your desktop and non Flash player devices like iPhone or iPad for a live examle.
    Full Post: http://reshapemedia.com/ftml/learn/flash-to-iphone-ipad/
    The Concept
Why configure multiple layouts and build the same application on multiple systems - it wastes time and money.  With FTML you can deploy the same application all across the board - all from Flash/Flex.  When rendering to non Flash environments you can add your own custom CSS file to change the style and layout with out rebuilding the entire application.
Reshape Media strongly believes: If you want 'interactivity' on an iPhone web page = build an iPhone app - dont kid yourself.  This is all raw HTML, no HTML5 - Flash all the way.
What Environment Can I Code FTML In?
Any!  You can code FTML in:
    HTML
    PHP and ASP
    Notepad
    Dreamweaver / VisualStudio
    Flex
Talk Is Cheap, How Can I Try It Now?
You can do this your self in under 5 minutes!
All the code is live and renders changes instantly
You only need to refresh your web page to see the changes
    Lets get started...
Start by taking a Photoshop PSD file.  This file will server as the layout to your project.  Use our Photoshop to Flash jsx script to convert your PSD into a Flash Text website in seconds.
Photoshop to Flash jsx script: http://reshapemedia.com/ftml/learn/photoshop-to-flash-ftml/
Once the script is completed you will have a [ftml-www] folder with all the required files for your server.  Place the files on yoru server or localhost and your website will be up and running right away.
Visit the site using your localhost: http://localhost/ or put the files on your website
The Flash Text website is instantly available on all browsers and devices.  You can view your Flash website on a desktop browser with Flash Player, or a non Flash Player device such as an iPhone or iPad.
(this is my testing environment - I spoof my headers as mobile for my server)
Thats it... simple and easy with no headache required.
    How Does It Render?
There are 3 main render modes for HTML.  All you do is add the meta tags to your HTML page to change the render style.
    <meta name='content-ftml' content='ftml' />
This is the default render for FTML on iPhones when no meta data is present.  This will render the Flash Text page similar to a Flash layout.  Its important to use x and y postions for this render.
    <meta name='content-ftml' content='ftml/html' />
This will render the Flash Text page similar to a HTML layout.  All elements are stacked and can use costom CSS stylesheets for layout.  This is the best render method if you are used to working with HTML.
    <meta name='content-ftml' content='ftml/flash' />
This will render the page with a full-screen layout.  Use this method if you do not have scrollable content on your page.
Try it your self... Build a multi-device project with Flash from anywhere... in seconds!
Remember, FTML is free of change and requires no downloads to get started.
    My Actual Question
What would the Flash/Flex community like to see / have when rendering to iPhone.  I'm not Adobe so if you make a suggestion to me and I like it - its added yesterday.  I can do anything when rendering so use your imagination!
    Eg. 'Suggestions' From Myself
Parse the actionscript into 'somewhat' compatable javascript - maybe jQuery
Create a 'somewhat' compatable tweener for HTML
Add support for all media (audio and video) on iPhone
Find a way to access the native device functions (mostly through file types and external events)

Parse the actionscript into 'somewhat' compatable javascript - maybe jQuery
    drkstr_1 wrote:
I think the only way we will see a truly consistent(ish) rendering of flash content is through a js lib that exposes the flash player api and interprets the byte code at runtime
That was my first path actually.  I wanted to just take the byte data from Flash or event simple meta data.  But the problem in that is that not all devices support Flash Player, so the IDE is not accessable under all circumstances.
I have class builders (I can send a manifest to it and it will spit out my Actionscriptcode, I've ran it on 100s of files at times)... this helped me to get a better understanding of syntax relationships between code.  That being said... I can parse some PHP and Javascript into Actionscript, but I'm not working on the opposit to apply Actionscript logic within PHP and Javascript - to be honest I'm about 40% complete on that one.
FYI: I can render MXML live - at runtime and compile actionscript live - at runtime.  Try it out.
    Samples: http://reshapemedia.com/ftml/downloads/flash-samples/
    - lots of samples to test
    Tweening: http://reshapemedia.com/ftml/samples/tweening/
    - note: when using the samples you can edit and recompile the code live.
Now bring both feet out of the box - I'll be working on this for the next little bit to perfect it for my needs, but I'd like to make it work for everyone.
Who doesn't need the ability to change thier existing SWF they made in CS4 to HTML... so it can be visible on iPhone?

  • IPhone 5s BLE updata rate

This is a copy of a post I just put on TI's E2E forum...
I just got an iPhone 5s so I could test compatibility with a custom app/custom BLE circuit...
Note: after fixing some iOS7 issues, everything works fine on ALL BLE capable iPad and iPhone devices from Apple.
Again, all devices (except iPhone 5s) work with iOS5, iOS6 and iOS7. (just to be completely accurate, iPhone 5 and iPad 4 and mini's were not tested with iOS5)
My apps are using multiple BLE devices connected simultaneously.
When testing with the new iPhone 5s (note also that I tested with a second iPhone 5s just to make sure it was not my phone specific), the sampled data seemed to be rather "sluggish" and in fact would continue to be collected by the iPhone 5s even after the input from the transmitting devices ceased. (apparently caching)
Another note: with 3 devices transmitting simultaneously, I can capture sample rates up to 50 samples/sec for each transmitting device with the iPhone 5 and the iPad 4, and when I increase the sample rate on the transmitting devices (tested up to 1000 samples/sec) the iOS devices "topped out" at appx 50 samples/sec which is currently acceptable for my current application so I set the BLE transmitting devices to 50 samples/sec to conserve battery life.  The indicators on the app which are affected by the sample rate are responsive an (snappy) as the data changes and when sending more than 50 samples/sec, the "extra" data is apparently being disregarded (dropped) as the "real time" indicators are using the most recently transmitted data with no apparent "caching".
Note: apps were compiled with xcode5 in both iOS6 and iOS7 - no difference in testing.
When testing with only one device, transmitting at 50 samp/sec, if I continue transmitting long enough, I can get the BLE connection to fail (over running a buffer?).  I have to lower the transmission rate down to 20 samples/sec or lower to let the iPhone 5s "keep up".  this is rather disappointing as the iPhone 5s (64 bit) is supposed to be so much faster and I fear that the new iPad to be announced this month may have the same issues if it follows the iPhone 5s architecture.
I downloaded the current iOS keyfob app from TI's wiki (remember to change  type:CBCharacteristicWriteWithoutResponse]; to  type:CBCharacteristicWriteWithResponse];), and got 2 of my TI keyfobs and programmed them with the latest "keyfob" code (BLE-CC254x-1.3.2 stack), one with no changes (ACCEL_READ_PERIOD  50) 20 samples/sec, and the other one changed to (ACCEL_READ_PERIOD  20) 50 samples/sec. - you can even change to a faster sample rate to see a more dramatic depiction of what I'm describing.
Connect each of the keyfobs in turn and shake them and watch the "bars" and you can see the "delayed" reaction - (cached).  The 20 samples/second keyfob is more responsive but you can still see a small amount of delay even down to 20 samples/sec.
I also got out 2 of my "SensorTags" and repeated the same tests with the same results just to see if there was something in the older keyfob code that might be causing this vs. the newer styled coding the SensorTags utilize, but again, the results are the same which points me back the the iPhone 5s.
I can't find anything from Apple's side about the way the 5s may be different but it appears that the 5s caches BLE data and all the rest of Apple's previous devices apparently do not.  Also, I could not find anything in the iOS or xcode side that gives any options for turning caching on or off (if that is indeed what is really happening), but even if that were the case, the exact same code (iOS) can be run on all devices with only the 5s being different.
    Any thoughts out there?
I think that this should be important to anyone out there who plans on collecting "real time" data and wants to be able to support the latest hardware...
I'd be happy to give more detail on any of the tests I've done if you are unable to replicate this.
    Thanks,
    evw

I just got the iPad Air and can confirm that it behaves identical to the iPhone 5s as described above...
Is anyone out there concerned about this?
I've submitted bug reports, informed DTS, and posted to TI's E2E, but still nothing...

Change how it syncs by enabling Manually manage music and videos, then you can drag and drop the music that you want on your iPhone. Revert it back to test to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Why, in ios7 on my iphone 5, will podcasts no longer download to the phone when I sync it?

I entirely stopped listening to podcasts for months because I was so frustrated by this whole situation. When I sync the phone, everything looks like it's transferring the podcasts I want to the phone's harddrive, but then when I go to the phone and try to play them...they have that (super-irritating to me now) cloud icon next to them and won't play (since I turned off cell data for the podcast app). Is there some setting I've somehow messed up to cause this? Can I turn off cloud involvement? I really don't care to see podcasts listed that aren't actually stored on my phone and this is infuriating.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

I think you may be having the same issue I am. It appears that the podcast app's directory is faulty, and cannot access the podcasts even though they've been physically moved to your iPhone (from iTunes).
You can test this theory by going into iTunes (on your Mac), click on your iPhone name (the phone must be connected), then look under the "Podcasts" tab  When you click on the podcast title/folder, you'll see several individual podcasts with their names greyed out. I'm working hard & searching these discussions to figure out how to fix this.

  • An iPhone Burned My Girlfriend... And Now Will Not Charge/Sync

So last week my girlfriend's iPhone 3gs did something new. She had just plugged it into the charger - the one that came with the phone when she purchased it - and plugged the charger into a wall outlet. My iPhone charger occupied the other socket. Within about 60 seconds, she noticed that the phone was getting extremely hot to the touch toward the bottom where the charger is. Then the burning smell started, so she immediately unplugged the phone. The end of the charger cable was actually hot enough to burn her skin and leave a scar where it touched her arm. When we looked at the port on the bottom of the phone, there were scorch marks on the contacts for the cable.
My phone was fine, we unplugged both cables and plugged them back in, then plugged her cable into my phone. It functioned perfectly. We plugged my cable into her phone and it said "this charging device is not supported." We tried some other cables we had from her old iPhone and our iPods, same thing. The issue was definitely related to her phone.
In the morning she called the local Apple store to make an appt. at the "genius bar." The guy on the phone listened to the issue, then said (in the most obnoxiously condescending douche voice possible) "Ma'am this could NOT be a problem with your phone but I guess if you want you can bring it in Friday and 4:30 and I will try to fit you in." Mind you, this was LAST TUESDAY so we know he is probably booked solid til then with people who have problems with their brand-new iPhone 4. Last night, on a whim, I decided to take her through all the troubleshooting steps they will go through and ask her if she did so they can send her away without resolving her problem.
I plugged the phone into my computer. Wasn't recognized by either device. I swapped cables, tried again, no dice. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in a few times and for a split second it said "sync in progress" so I wiggled the cable and held it in at an odd angle and finally got it to sync up. I backed up all her data first, then I tried to restore it per Apple's troubleshooting docs. It would not maintain connection long enough to restore. I tried to update it to OS4, also no connection. My phone worked fine on the same cable in the same slot. I had a nagging idea in my head Apple would still try to f* her over, so we registered her on their support site. It initially told us her hardware was no longer covered unless it was a "manufacturer's defect." Well, of course this is a defect! So I selected the exception and had a tech support rep call us.
She was polite but seemed like she knew nothing about what she was doing. Her first idea was for us to pay Apple $29.99 to cover the device, so we explained this is a manufacturer's defect and it should be covered for free. She had already heard the story once but we repeated it for emphasis that it was in fact the iPhone itself. She said, "Oh well it COULDN'T be the iPhone!" and suggested we restore it. I had just gotten done telling her that no computer would recognize that specific phone, so I asked her how she recommended we restore it. She read through her list of scripted responses, then told us to take it to an Apple store, but they "probably wouldn't be able to help us since it doesn't sound like the phone was the problem."
Now I KNOW that Apple told its support employees to DENY DENY DENY all responsibility for issues with their hardware, the memo was leaked and published all over the place recently. But this is just ********. It's not even like we have an iPhone 4 and they can't afford to swap it for us... they have TONS of leftover 3gs's that nobody is going to buy. But still, we get screwed by their ****-poor customer service AGAIN.
So, I decided to make everyone aware of this issue in case they were wondering how Apple is treating their customers. I am no overzealous fanboy, I do happen to like my iPhone 3gs when it has service... It has provided the least number of headaches out of all the phones I have owned and tried recently. It's a grudging concession though, as I have had no small number of problems with their products before. But back then, when my 6th iPod died the same way as the other 5 before it, even a year out of the warranty, they would just send me a box to return it and a new iPod no questions asked.
I will update with results of our visit to the Apple store if I get to go with her.
Anyone else had a similar problem or experience that can lend some info on how to deal with the "Genius" at the Apple store, or Apple support in general?

Can I ask you a personal question? Why do a certain "faction" of Apple users and supporters eschew logic and accountability in favor of a fanatical level of worship toward the company and its products?
You say that is how it has "always been," yet I remember an Apple that replaced 6 (SIX!) of my iPods for the same design fault without so much as asking me a single question before sending a box.
You say all manufacturers do this, however Samsung replaced my phone with a revised design of the same model when they realized that the battery cover was defective. Nokia did the same with theirs for various software problems. Twice, as a matter of fact.
I have spoken to other Apple customers (via relating this story to other groups on the internet) who had their iPhones replaced for less than this. I guess it's no surprise that I would get this type of response on a board maintained by Apple; I somehow expected that if the company STILL can't take responsibility for flaws in the basic design of the iPhone 4 - verified by several independent tests that provide irrefutable evidence - I wouldn't be able to receive anything of value from its representatives or various hangers-on that make up what I suspect to be a large percentage of this forum's membership.
I don't want to hear "the company is always right" mantra, I want someone not plugged into the Cupertino Matrix, so to speak, to offer some insight on what I might be able to do to make the "genius" behind the counter forgo the whole "anti-customer service" attitude that Apple instills in its employees through memos and threats of termination these days and DO HIS JOB, which by my definition is ASSISTING THE CUSTOMER WITH A PIECE OF DEFECTIVE HARDWARE. I would be surprised if he were even able to go beyond plugging it into his test rig *one time* before handing it back and suggesting we buy a replacement or upgrade to the new model as he has been programmed to do.
Seriously, what is the password, secret handshake, the wink and nod required to cut through the facade - aside from spending what I originally paid a second time? Or is there nothing substantive behind it for you people anymore?
I LOVE my iPhone, I really do. The only gripe I have EVER had with it is related to AT&T service problems. I upgraded to iOS4 on the launch date, I enjoy the apps, the fast web browsing, the relative ease of use... I will wait for the revised model of the new iPhone to come out (still waiting for Apple to acknowledge THEIR problems first), but Apple WILL get my money. I could be one of you, I just feel like I want to retain my objectivity instead of being lobotomized and becoming a brand-slave.
