Iphone 3g: "other" storage capacity

Okay, I am syncing my apps and I noticed the orange labeled "Other" with 265.8 mb and now it is now 340 mb. Are apps taking "Other" storage?? How can I access or delete the "Other" storage?
Thank You.
PS: It keeps increasing on sync; It ended on 356.7 mb

You can't access or delete what is included with the "Other" storage. "Other" stores data such as 3rd party application settings and data created and stored by 3rd party applications, contact info and contact photos, calendar events, bookmarks, Safari history/cookies/cache, locally stored email and email attachments, etc.

  • How do I empty or delete "other" storage capacity

I noticed that I have 15gb of "other" storage on my ipad.  Im not sure what it is, or what it consists of.... is there any way I can clean this out?
    Thank you!!

"Other" consist of quite a variety of files and data, including the data stored by any number of third party apps, as well as mail messages and their attachments and text messages (but not the apps themselves). You can get a better sense of what is using storage by opening the Settings app > General > Usage Manage Storage [under Storage].

  • I am unable to install ios8 to an iphone with 8gb storage capacity

  • My iTunes shows at the bottom of the screen my storage capacity. When i sync my iphone it shows that i have over 13 gb of the "other" category and i dont have any music, 3 photos, and 3 apps. I need to know how to delete the "other" gigs down. HELP!

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE "OTHER" STORAGE?

Make sure to back up the device so that no data is lost. If you turn on iCloud in Settings>iCloud this will save your contacts and photos.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
    Hope this helps......

  • My iPhone still has low storage capacity inspite of getting iTunes Match -

I recently got iTunes match  - hoping to get more storage space in my iPhone . My IPhone still shows 6.3 GB of stored music with still minimal capacity for further storage(550 MB)
Was I wrong in presuming I would get more storage capacity by putting my music on iTunes Match.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Even though you have iTunes Match, you will still need to delete music from the phone to create more space, although iTunes Match will automatically delete your least played music automatically when more space is needed on the phone.

  • Sync issues with iPhone 6 and "other" storage

I have been having multiple problems with syncing music on my iPhone 6. In short some of the music and album art aren't synching even though they are checked.
I did some research and decided to follow the advice below from other users:
    • Uncheck “sync music” in iTunes
    • On phone, Delete all Music (General > Usage > Manage Storage)
    • Re-check “sync music”
    • Sync
The problem is once I unchecked the "sync music", it deleted all the music on my phone, but the actual space it was taking up is now in the "other" storage on the summary screen in iTunes. Now my "other" storage is over 81GB. I checked the Usage on my phone and even though there are no music files it is still showing I'm using this 81GB as used. When I go to "manage storage" I can't find this amount anywhere.
I figured if I re-checked "sync music" that would fix it, but instead iTunes tells me I can't sync because I'm over capacity.
So now I'm stuck because I can't sync but I also can't figure out how to get rid of the ghost storage.

    Hey armoe12,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like you have a very large quantity of “Other” disk usage when syncing your device with iTunes. The following resource should help you resolve this issue. Please be sure to follow each step, including the final step of restoring your device if needed:

Turning off automatic backup doesn't delete anything from your account, it only stops it from continuing to back up to iCloud.  If you want to reduce your iCloud storage, this article provides some suggestions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

my iphone 4 has no more storage capacity, i have deleted apps but its not freeing up any memory, can anyone advise?

Well if you have 3 gigs of music that is taking up half right there. Pictures and videos also take up a lot of space as well. Another thing is texts are saved on the phone. Try deleting them but texts don't nomally take up a lot of space.

  • Storage capacity of iTunes on an iPhone

Before I buy and iPhone I would like to know what is the storage capacity of iTunes is on the iPhone, average # of songs. I have 2700 songs stored on my iPod; the AT&T store rep said the iphone wouldn't hold that much but he couldn't tell me what it would hold. Also I understand that music playback uses lots of battery, is this true?

What capacity iPhone are you considering?
My 32GB iPhone 3GS currently has 2552 songs on it and is nowhere near full. It also has 2 TV series and 5 movies, plus 71 applications and 209 photos with 7.7GB free.
It all depends on what quality and length these songs you have are, and the capacity of iPhone you get.
    On a 32GB iPhone you'll easily fit 2700 songs.
Music playback does not use lots of battery. Out of all the things the iPhone can do, music playback is possibly one of the least power hungry.

  • Storage capacity consumed by 10 Gb of Other!

Since a recent update on my iPhone, the storage capacity has been consumed by 10.35Gb of "Other."
There are no movies or TV downloads; audio has been reduced to 4Gb; the rest of the memory consists of 18 Mb photos and 22 Mb of Apps.
Any suggestions on how I can get my memory back or how I can discover what is contained within the "other" category??
    Rubicon Day

I had the same problem, and after reading several posts I tried restoring from a backup (after backing-up the backup to another file). It didn't get rid of the "Other". So then I tried resetting to factory settings--that did the trick, got the "other" down to a reasonable 200+ MB. The only problem is that this erased ALL of the data stored on my iPhone!
Here's my question: if I now restore from that previous backup, will I end up putting all of that "other" stuff back onto my phone, and end up back where I started? (I really don't want to have to re-enter everything manually :o( )

  • I have recently upgraded to an iphone 5. When trying to sync/ back up with my current i tunes settings. I get the message the it 1.6GB over the storage capacity. Although when syncing my i phone 4 (same size 16GB) i do not have any problems?

iOS uses more memory on the iPhone 5 than the iPhone 4 because there are quite a few more to iPhone 5. Therefore there will be less memory available on the 5. Reluctantly iOS 7, coming this fall, uses a bit less memory than iOS 6 so if you can do without a few apps until then you should be gravy!

  • TS1503 Part of storage capacity called Others

Please, There is part of the storage capacity called others and it takes 1.01G of of the total capcity (13.32) what's (others) refer to, and how coud i decrease its size? thank you too much

"Other" is data associated with apps but not the apps themselves. Safari History, Bookmarks, Notes, Contacts, documents, text messages, and so on. You don't want to get rid of "other" and yours is not sky high but I have read that it should be around 500 MB or so, but it will vary according to the user.
The most oftenly suggested way to get it under control if it balloons out of sight in size is to restore as new and then restore from your back up. There are many articles around about how to reduce "other".

  • My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked

My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked briefly as a temporary fix but not anymore

    You could try this
Temporarily disable security on your home network
    See if the iPad connects
If it does then reset the security - with the same or different password
