IPhone 3G purchased in Egypt?

A family member purchased an iPhone 3G last year in Egypt and has been using it there with a local carrier. She is moving back to the USA next week and wants to sign a contact with AT&T for service here.
Can she just walk into any AT&T store and sign up for new service using her existing iPhone 3G? Thank you.

Can she just walk into any AT&T store and sign up for domestic service, using her existing iPhone 3G? Thank you.
No. All iPhones sold through official sources in Egypt are sold as carrier locked, with no way to officially unlock them as none of the carriers in Egypt offer unlocking. Tell her to sell her phone in Egypt & then purchase an iphone when she gets to the states.

  • IPhone 3GS - Purchased from Vodafone Egypt

This is a question directed towards Apple employees. I would have preferred to use a support email address, but having browsed Apple websites designated for several different countries I have still not been able to locate such an e-mail address. Therefore I think this forum is the most appropriate place for this question.
I have a question which relates to an iPhone 3GS which was given to me as a Christmas present 6 months ago. As my family and I are temporarily living in Egypt the iPhone was purchased from the leading local operator, Vodafone. The phone is locked to this network, which while I am in Egypt is perfectly fine.
However, as our temporary living in Egypt has come to an end and we are moving to Saudi Arabia I would like to be able to use my iPhone in Saudi Arabia. I have been in touch with Vodafone Egypt with hopes of being able to untie my phone from their network, but they have said that they will not be able to help with this.
I have a hard time believing that Apple would sell a product like this and have it tied down to one country. This in effect renders their products useless for people who frequently move around. I would certainly like to continue using this product and I it certainly does not make sense to me that it will be rendered useless simply because I am moving to a different country.
My question therefore is if there is any way to remove the network lock on this iPhone in order for me to be able to use it when I move away from Egypt?
I hope someone within in Apple will be able to answer this question or at least provide an explanation as to why a product would be sold in such a manner.

Sorry, but as it says in the Terms of Use, Apple does not provide technical nor customer support here. So you will not receive any official answer to your question from any Apple employee. The only responses you will get is from we your fellow users. Apple also provides no email customer or technical support.
The only answer anyone here can provide is that neither of the cell carriers in Egypt that sell the iPhone provide unlocking. That is the cell carrier's policy and Apple has no power to override it. So no, there will be no way of unlocking your iPhone. Even if you could it would be inadvisable to try and keep it when you move to another country since the warranty and support for an Egyptian-sold iPhone would only be provided in Egypt, requiring you to send the iPhone back to Egypt should it ever need service.
I'd suggest you just sell your Egyptian iPhone when you are ready to leave the country, and buy a new one, if you wish to continue with the iPhone, when you reach your permanent residence. The iPhones sold in Saudi Arabia are not locked to the local carrier.
    Regards.

  • Will iPhone 5c work in Egypt

Will the iPhone 5c work in Egypt with Vodafone Egypt or Etisalat ?
If i purchased it from USA or UK, will it work in Egypt ?
    Thanks,
    Mohammed

The power adapter accepts a wide range of AC input voltages and frequencies.  You won't need a different power adapter but, depending upon the AC prong orientation in Korea, you may need to purchase an AC prong adapter.  You can check the iPhone 5C specifications on both the US and Korea Apple online stores at your leisure.

my Iphone 5(purchased in Jan 2013) has suddenly developed a multicolored hue in the center of the **** screen. it looks pathetic and totally whacked out. Its rainy and humid where I stay this time of the year. Apple guys are you reading this? does the management go through this website.? Hey Apple guys, can you replace my phone for me.Its so slippery and slides out very easily from my hands. I have owned smartphones before but yours is a real slimy slider. so while I was shooting pics in varanasi in march it fell out of my palm (it was drizzling) and the rear screen (the section next to the camera) kinda cracked real ugly and obviously due to this the camera is behaving kinda crazy too. can you guys help me out here.?

If your phone is defective (aside from the accidental damage) Apple will fix or replace the phone. You saud you purchased the phone in January so it is still under warranty.
If you have an Apple Store in your area, make a Genius Bar appointment.
If not, Contact Apple Service Center:

  • Will an unlocked Iphone (originally purchased from AND unlocked by ATT) be able to be used in S. Korea?

    Greetings,
I will be traveling to S. Korea in about 4 months (for about a year), and I currently have an iphone 4s purchased through ATT. I am still under contract. Since ATT is now unlocking their iphones for particular customers, I contacted them and asked if they would unlock my Iphone 4s, and they did. I received the email about a week ago on "How to Complete Your Authorized iphone Unlock". So, over one hurdle. So now that I am able to unlock the phone, will I be able to take it to S. Korea, insert a SIM card from a carrier there, and be on my way? There shouldnt be any problems right, or am I missing a step? I havent bothered to unlock the phone yet since I do not have a SIM card to check if it worked or not (or does that matter if I do it now or not??), but it shouldnt be an issue when I go overseas right?
I took a look through all of the questions regarding S. Korea but they were all before ATT made the decision to unlock their phones; so its not a legal issue or anything of the sort. I just didnt want to repeat an already asked question...
    Thanks!
    asv

I know you've marked this as solved, but unless Korean law has changed, you will not be able to use your phone in South Korea. All phones in South Korea by law, have their IMEI numbers registered to the Korean network, so a foreign phone whether it's an iphone or unlocked phone of any kind, will not work in Korea because the Korean network will recognize that it's a foreign IMEI and won't let you connect. You need to check if this is still true, or that Korean law has changed.

  • Retrieving a copy of my iphone 3g purchase receipt

I would like to retrieve a copy of my iphone 3g purchase receipt and there is no easy way to contact Apple's service that address the issue above.
I'm from israel and would like to contact Apple's service via email or by chat service (which is preferred).
As a leading electric products company it is expected from Apple to offer this kind of service.
    Any one with an idea?

Contact your credit card company. Contact the store you bought it from.
Ask either or both for a copy of the receipt.

  • Im having Iphone 3GS purchased from USA right now im in India so if i update my ios from 4 to 5 will my phone get locked..? if so can how to unloack that? i want to update the ios 5 please help

im using iphone 3GS with ios 4.1;the iphone is purchased from USA and unlocked;I live in India so if I update to IOS 5 will my phone get locked? if so how to unlock in that case? please help

No 3GS sold in the US was ever unlocked officially. Any attempts to update a hacked or un-officially unlocked iPhone will likely result in it being relocked to the original carrier.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.

    Sorry.
The iPhone is of no use until/unless the previous owner removes it from their account.
You will need to find the prior owner or return the iPhone.

Brand new iPhone 4 (unlocked), got it activated yesterday, and speakers doesn't work, did restore back to factory settings, not luck, any suggestions. This iPhone was purchased in US, currently in India, will Apple support in India?

There are many threads on this forum regarding speaker not working issues.  You might try searching them.  Hopefully you'll find the answer you need.
BTW, the iPhone only has ONE speaker.
