IPhone 3G randomly freezing after 3.1.2 upgrade

I have suffered from 3.1.2 Freezing for many weeks. My wife's iPhone only recently came down with it as well.
1.) Apple, if you are reading this - can you at least acknowledge the problem and that you're working on a fix? This device WAS great but now is so frustrating, I'm thinking about defecting back to a Blackberry.
2.) I did find a note on CNet about trying two adjustments to solve (or in my case, reduce) the problem.
- Settings > General > Auto-Lock : set to "never" (seems you have to manually put the phone to sleep)
- Settings > Brightness : Auto-brightness : set to "Off"
So far, this has helped (although phone still slow to un-lock) but the device seems faster too.
(Yes, these are not long-term solutions) but I hope this helps anyone as frustrated as I.

OK so I'll update with what has worked for me, hopefully some of you can use this to get a result.
*What worked for me:* +(so far)+
Make sure all your apps are updated. This worked for me, so what I would assume is the "freezing" could be an ap that has not had an update patch for it.
Workaround: +(if all your apps are updated and you still have problems)+
Uninstall your apps then test your phone. If there is no more "freezing" then it must be one of your apps. Now its a process of elimination. Re-sync your apps one by one until you get the problem, you should be able to eliminate the apps that are not yet compatible.
I really hope this will work for others as it has for me...

  • Mid-2010 iMac randomly freezing after last Windows 7 update.  Help!  I am a teacher and have 50 computers all behaving the same way.

I am a teacher and have 50 mid-2010 iMacs running Windows 7 in my classroom.  The computers did a Windows 7 automatic update on or around April 15, 2014.  After that, each computer randomly freezes.  Some are worse than others.  Most of the computers freeze when a USB drive is plugged in and also when a pop-up shows up on the screen - especially the Java update.  I have installed the most current Bootcamp drivers and run several anti-virus program searches.  I've also tried the Microsoft Fix-it program and almost everything.  Uninstalling the updates did not help.  Can anyone help me out?

based on what you wrote this  doesn't make sense
use system restore to rollback the machine prior to this update

  • Random freezes after recent update

For last 2-3 weeks I experience random freezes (in gnome3) i.e., after a random period of time, the screen freezes and mouse/keyboard not responding, have to manually turn it off by holding the power button.
This doesn't happen if I boot with the LTS kernel.
some warnings from systemd's journal just before the freeze.

You need to find what processes are locked. The best way would be using serial console + sysrq, but modern desktop computers usually do not have serial port. Try to invoke sysrq key using keyboard hoping that it will print data to the terminal. It might work https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sysrq.txt   You need 'w' key (print all blocked tasks).

  • 13" Macbook pro random freezing after upgrading hard drive.

    i have a 2010 mbp 13" 2.4
I upgraded the hhd from the 250 to a 320 5400 RPM drive i cleared the cache did a clean install of osx 10.6 grabbed all the updates and then rolled my time machine to restore all my files.
But now it randomly freezes for about 4-7 seconds. It's extremely annoying and i can't figure out why. Short of a clean install any ideas on what might fix this?
    Thanks

The AHT does test the graphics chips. Run the extended version and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code. Also, there may be a crash log in Console. Try to run something processor intensive so the Mac freezes, and then run the AHT. Heat could be a factor.
Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and bring in your Mac for evaluation. They would probably have a more comprehensive hardware test they could run. If you get any error codes, bring those along.
It sounds like you could have some sort of hardware problem here. Since you are under warranty, it might be time to let Apple diagnose and fix it. It sounds like you may have had video issues during the first week of ownership with the original hard drive, and these may actually be independent of the hard drive.
    Good luck!
    Good luck!

  • Iphone 4S apps freeze after connecting to itunes

When I plug my iphone 4S into my laptop and sync it, all downloaded apps freeze and I have to delete them and re-install them which is start to **** me off. Can anyone please tell me what is going on. I never had this issue with my iphone 3. Cheers,

I seem to have this issue as well.  Sometimes after syncing and sometimes they just stop working.  What I have found is that I can resolve this by going to the app store on my phone.  Previous times there were updates to my current apps, I would update and then they would all work.  Yesterday, they just stopped working and there were no updates available.  I downloaded an app I didn't have (just a random app) and then they all started working.  The issue has always been resolved by doing this.  Hope that helps.

  • Mac pro 8 core 3.1 randomly freezes after video card upgrade

    Hi,
I just installed an ATI 5770 as a video card upgrade, plugged my new LED cinema display 27 and everything seems to work fine.
Sometimes though, while working with Aperture I noticed the Mac Pro just freezes, although the mouse works, I cannot do anything and I'm forced to press and hold the power button for a reboot.
This happended randomly 5 or 6 times in a couple of weeks and only while working with Aperture.
Any thoughts? Anyone having the same issue?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Guido

    Running Lion or SL?
Tried holding Shift key down and do a safe boot after those freezes.
Use Disk Utility from another boot media to repair your drive.
Do you have enough RAM? is Aperture library on non-boot drive? Does it have 30% or more free? more is better. Same for the boot drive which sholdk be small and 50% free.
Corrupt library. Corrupt preferences (if there were none before, there likely are now after those hard restarts, to data files and to the disk directories).

  • Why does my iphone 4s keep freezing after downloading ios7?, why does my iphone 4s keep freezing after downloading ios7?

my iphone4s keeps freezing immediately after downloading the ios7 update.
    has anyone else encountered this?
will there be an update to fix this?
what are people doing to solve this problem?
    thanks

Sounds like hardware failure, called boot loop. Call Apple and or go on apple.com and make Genius Bar appointment to have your iphone reviewed by a Tech. Provided you iphone shows no physical or liquid damage they will take care of you, or if you have Apple Care Plus

  • Has anybody else been having trouble with there iPhone 4s randomly freezing and only unfreezing to shut down because the battery is dead?

I have been using my iPhone 4s a lot mainly for email and to text my friends. I have also noticed that my iphone seems to have recently begun freezing up. It's done this a number of times, and ive only noticed it happen after i updated the software to 5.1 version. Has anybody else been having this problem? I have takin good care of my iphone, and I care to know why my 300 dollar phone is currently being out done by any 20 dollar walgreens phone that I have had in the past.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • Iphone 3GS randomly freezing when texting..

I'm not sure if this is the start of an issue with my 3GS iphone or not. I know these things are a bit random and a few problems are to be expected.
But I've recently noticed (3 times on the trot today) when texting on the messages application that the phone occasionally becomes unresponsive and the touch pad freezes.
It's usually rectified just by hitting the refresh / sleep button but is this something others are experiencing or should I take a wander to the Apple shop at some stage just to be sure it's not a problem?
I will be keeping an eye on this for future reference...

This seems to be the subject of a problem notified By Topic - iPhone 3GS 32GB touch screen randomly stops/starts working
by what appears to be a good few of you, so it seems I may be one of the many to have a bit of a temperamental dud!
I will hold out for now but forsee a trip to the Genius Bar coming on!

  • IPhone 4 is freezing after inputting passcode

After putting in my passcode my phone simply freezes. I have to power it down and reboot in order to get it working again. And no, I haven't upgraded my 4 to the newest OS yet.
    Any suggestions?

She is not putting in the right passcode.  The iPhone does not magically change your lock passcode.

  • IPhone 4 randomly restating after updating to iOS 6.0.1

When I updated to iOS 6.0.1, from iOS 6.0, my iPhone 4 started to reboot randomly. I have tried a restore, and I am not willing to start as a new iPhone either. It doesn't reboot often, just randomly, and when it does it takes 5-10 seconds to restart. It's not annoying, but it is a problem. iOS 6 worked perfectly for me, and I regret updating to iOS 6.0.1. I am on Verizon, if that matters.

Restore the phone as new, and you will have to redownload your apps back to the phone and put your other content back in. As of right now you have nothing so, you have nothing to lose.

  • IPhone 4 randomly dies after update to ios 5 battery still full

My iPhone 4 worked flawlessly before I updated to ios 5 now it randomly goes into a deep sleep and have to do a hard reset to turn it on. Happens about twice a day. Any suggestions?

Ok guys i got it fixed:
1- close your iphone by holding the power button for few sec (10-20) till the phone turn off.
2- open itunes and plug you usb wire in your mac/pc but do not plug it in the iphone yet.
3- push and hold the home button of the iphone and plug your usb dock in, you must hold the home button at the same time.
4- now itunes will reconize your iphone and will ask foe a recovery.
5- follow the step for the recovery process (your last backup)
6- happy :) but you will maybe lost some of the last data.
    I hope that will help.

  • Iphone 4 randomly freezes - what hardware to swap

Good Afternoon, ive recently started up my own business fixing mobile phones - mostly cracked screens and chassis replacements.
Just recently i thought id got a bargain on ebay regarding an iphone 4.
It was described as working correctly, can make / receive calls and send texts etc but randomly locks up.
Ive got the phone today, unfortunately its locked to the 3 network so ive got a micro sim on the way so I cant actually proceed further at this point.  Although it did crash once on me when i tried to select language's etc - had to hold the home and power button down until it turned off.
Ive read on the forums that this is a common fault, and can occur to any iphone - faulty or otherwise.  And the main concensus seems to be to take it back to the store for a swap.
My main question is - seeing how im likely to come across this fault again - is the fault software or hardware related?
If its hardware related what circuit board is likely to be the culprit?  If we could identify the problem then im sure I could just order the required part on ebay.
The fact that apple havent recalled the iphone and that they will accept these faulty iphone's back and swap for new suggests to me its an easy fix - its just easier for the technicians to go in the store room and get a brand new one.
Secondly ive just got another iphone 4 white - bought cheap as its totally dead.  Tried a new battery and still nothing.  Got a new dock / charging connector on the way - is it likely to be this at fault?  Doesnt seem to be any sign of water damage, and it wasnt described as this on the ebay page.
When id swapped the new battery over i tried to charge the phone ( to see if id fixed it ) and it got extremely hot - so i disconnected right away and left it to cool off.
Whats likely to be the issue with that one?
Thanks, and hope someone can help
    Adam

Apple does not sell parts. There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts. Apple considers iPhone to NOT be user servicable, and any attempt by anyone other than Apple to open or service an iPhone will void any warranty and forfeit all rights to have the phone serviced by Apple.
Your assumptions that a) the problem you have is widespread, and b) that it is an easy fix are incorrect.
If you want advice of repairing iPhones, try someplace like www.ifixit.com.
What you're doing is not supported or condoned by Apple.
By the way, almost every single case of an exploding iPhone or an iPhone catching fire can be traced to a botched 3rd party repair.

  • My ipad keeps randomly freezing after I turn it on

Since I turned it on for the first time, my ipad will randomly glitch out and
    a. the screen will turn dark and become unresponsive and freeze
    b. just freeze
    c. restart itself
    d. a couple of times the screen has turned completely blue
It has nothing to do with what I'm doing on it, it has even done this while I was in settings. I have updated it on my computer so it is not because the OS is out of date. The first time it happened was when I was on the 3rd step of initial setup. I had done nothing abnormal with it for the 5 minutes max that I had it until I turned it on. Any suggestions on how to help?

Try this, hold down both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
    If that doesn't work then...
    go to settings/general/reset/reset all settings
