IPhone 3G reception versus iPhone 1G reception

I just purchased the new iPhone and got rid of my 1G iPhone. My experience so far is that the signal I'm getting is weaker. For example, at my desk at work, I get practically no signal from the 3G, where I got a great signal from the 1G. Also, when driving, I have far more dropped calls and the service seems to disappear temporarily more frequently. Is this a problem with my specific phone? Do I need to take it in to the Apple Store. Help anyone? Thanks!

Ah, this is where the finger-pointing begins between AT&T and APPLE I'd say.
While I never owned the 1G as you refer to it, I do own the 3G for 3-days and have noticed 3-4 dropped calls in my local area, whereas I never had the issue while on Verizon for 5-yrs now. So while that doesn't answer your question... I would assume APPLE will tell you nothing has technically changed internally between the 1G and 3G other than the 3G having a plastic back cover... therefore, the reception from either phone should be the same and that it is an AT&T issue. On the flip side, AT&T will say that nothing has changed with their 3G technology (ask in person so you can watch them evolve into Pinochio); therefore, if there were no reported problems with the 1G, then it has to be something about APPLES "3G iPhone's" technology and not AT&T's 3G network. While both have some merit in their argument... we do know that the 3G network may not work as well in buildings, etc. and that it's "available" bandwidth with the significance of more 3G iPhones being in use has to cause a drain on it.. which is why they are having to add more 3G towers... remember IT 101? The analogy of bandwidth with a highway? So, if in 2000 you had a four-lane highway capable of handling "x" amount of traffic during rush hour with no issues and in 2008 that same highway is now experiencing 10-fold in additional traffic volume... guess what? So as APPLE was caught by surprise by the increase in volume demand and sales of the new 3G, so was AT&T in being able to ramp their systems and servers to accommodate the increased traffic.     If there is no LTE coverage in your area, then the iPhone 6 has no LTE signals it can connect to, to use. It will use the same 3G signals available to your iPhone 5s. In which case the reception is likely to be the same as with the iPhone 5s.
    In  other words, its unlikely the iPhone 6 will provide any noticeably better reception. 
    It comes down to an environmental problem, rather than something an antenna could resolve even if it is newer and maybe better.

    Try signing out, then back in on your phone: Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in.  If that doesn't work, reset your password here: https://iforgot.apple.com.

    I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
    June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

    Here's the information on transferring purchases to a new device.
    If you remove and reinstall an app, or install an app on a new device, you'll keep your non-consumable purchases, but you might lose your consumable purchases. For example, if you install a game from your iPhone on your iPod touch, the game levels will sync, but not the extra ammo or experience points.

    You did not ruin the phone, you will need a sim card to activate the phone and then connect the phone to itunes and do a restore from back up.

    swisscom say they cannot help it should go to your account and select the phone under devises but I canniot get a screen to do this can anyone help

    Charging cords are covered by the iPhone warranty or their own warranty
    if puchased separately. Take your iPhone and the cords to your local
    Apple store for evaluation and possible replacement.

    I am trying to upgrade my iPhone via my macbook but the following message keeps coming up and the download does not work

    Please advise how I can transfer these files, I am not sure what files are in question.
    I've only had the MacBook a couple of days, I am PC savvy but this is all new to me so please keep it as simple as possible. I am a brit based in Bahrain.

    okay I've done everything regarding the transfer process (via file>transfer purchases) and syncing, so everything on my iPhone device seems to have been transferred to my iMac... however, I still get that message ("There are purchased items on the iPhone..."), trying to upgrade the iOS Have tried several times the same process of hitting transfer purchases via file, but nothing seems to make that message go away! Would have been nice to know which files I actually do need to transfer, which I don't get any info on of course...
    Starting to get really annoying this thing.. Any smart suggestions what's going on?

    I have read multiple posts on how to do this and I am still confused.
    Apple ID/ICoud:
    We want to be able to monitor what they do, but do not want their devices linked to our emails/contacts/etc...  Each kid has their own email account.  So, from what I have read the best way to do this is to use our family Apple ID, but set them up with a separate iCloud account?  Is this correct?
    Reset/Restore/DFU:
    To start fresh we have done multiple factory resets.  I did one that someone said was a DFU and a plan ol' factory reset, etc...  Not sure the difference.  However, when I do that I get the "hello" screen and am able to start setting the phone up anew.  However, when I go to set the phone up as an iPod I end with the same result.
    So, here is what I am doing (tell me what I am doing wrong):
    Hello Screen
    Asks me to select language and selecting:  English
    Select Your Country or Region:  United States
    Choose a Wi-Fi Network:  select my home wi-fi network
    Enter password:  entered my home wi-fi network password
    Activiate iPhone - wants me to enter Apple ID and Passwordsays that this iphone is currently linked to an Apple ID (k*******@gmail.com).  Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone.
    Location Services - I have enabled location services
    Set Up iPhone
    Set Up as New iPhone
    Apple ID
    Options are to sign in with your Apple ID or Create a Free Apple ID
    Or I could "skip this step"
    I signed in with my Apple ID
    Terms and Conditions - Agree
    iCloud - I can select either to use iCloud or Don't Use iCloud - I selected use iCloud
    Find My iPhone - I can select either to use find my iPhone or to not - I selected use find my iphone
    Once I do this it says iMessage and FaceTime and shows the following:
    my email
    my other child's cell phone number
    and my husband's work phone number
    This is where things do not make sense.  I only want the phone set up with the current child's email address.  Where did I go wrong?

    There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
    Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
    iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
    For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
    All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

    Set up the account using a desktop or laptop, then sign
    into that account on your iPhone.
    I am not aware of any method around the restriction once
    the maximum has been created on any individual iPhne.
