IPhone 3G's camera roll empty on Image Capture (and iPhoto)

I have 11 photos on the iPhone. I have loaded them to MobileMe, but they are scaled down with no EXIF data. The iPhone loads fine in iTunes, and the device can be seen by Image Capture and iPhoto. These apps just can't see the Camera Roll with the 11 photos. I have tried resetting everything but nothing works.
Anyone got any ideas?

The sync DOES NOT copy off pictures for you (yes it is part of backup file though, but not image files you can touch).
iTunes CAN sync pictures TO the phone but not to Camera Roll.
The Camera Roll is a special partition on the phone that when connected to a computer acts like *any other* digital camera. Thus to take pictures off the camera roll, you use what ever software you use to take off pictures of any of your digital cameras (as for Windows, it has the default Camera/Scanner wizard that it will normally offer up unless you told it to stop suggesting it).
So once connected, no sync is needed. But your PC (unless you changed default settings in Windows as it has nothing to do with iTunes) will prompt you about a camera being attached and what do you want it to do.
Even if it doesn't ask, it should show up under My Computer and you can just browse to it and copy the images off.

  • Image Capture and iPhoto recognize my camera as a device but won't display photos

Everything worked fine under Mavericks.  Might have to revert to that again if this problem isn't fixed.  I'm downloading the Mavericks installer as I write this.

As has been noted in other posts about this problem, reformatting the card is not a solution.  I format the card after I download pics in Mavericks on a regular basis.  The problem lies with Yosemite's remake of Image Capture (and iPhoto), not with my old Canon camera.

  • Image Capture and iPhoto have extra copies of my devices

Every time I open up iPhoto or Image Capture, a previous copy of my iPhone appears as if it is a separate device that is already connected to the app. This happens even if I open the app and have not attached my actual iPhone. (I only attach my iPhone to the Mac, and nothing else.)
In iPhoto, the device WILL "unmount", but appears again on every startup. There are 1734 images on this imaginary device, and my actual iPhone is under 800 images at the moment. My iPhoto will SOMETIMES let me import my photos (so I can save them to the laptop and clear up space on the iPhone).
In Image Capture, the device will not "unmount" (or remove or whatever the proper term is). The images on that device will not delete, will not download, and will not import or "delete after import". I'm not sure what else to do other than delete the app and reinstall it, but this makes me mildly nervous sinec I'm not terribly savvy with Macs yet. (I was a PC "go-to" guy in every office I ever worked in for about a decade, so I'm not a total n00b.)
And help, tips, or advice would be appreciated!

  • Deleted Image Capture and iPhoto...oops...Now What?

Hi, all. Like the title suggests, I removed Image Capture and iPhoto from my computer several months ago, thinking, "when will I ever need to hook up a digital camera?" Heh. The installer disks are with my parents several hundred miles away, and so getting them re-installed that way would be at best a hassle, plus it appears that iPhoto can't be re-installed once deleted without the original version installed to upgrade from. So, now what? Is there some place I can download Image Capture, in particular? I'm not a big user of iPhoto (hence the deletion), but getting Image Capture back would be...good. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Greg Turnipseed

Hi, Allan. The versions of iPhoto I tried to install came off the OS installer disks. I'd tried installing the version that came with 10.3 with the intent of running Software Update and pulling it up to the latest version (I still have the 10.3 disks here), but it didn't work. I also tried installing the version that came with 10.5 the last time I was at my parents', but it claimed that it couldn't find a copy of iPhoto to upgrade. I'm sure with iLife, that wouldn't be a problem, but I haven't purchased iLife.
I was afraid the only place to find Image Capture would be on the installer disk. I'll pester my parents for it the next time I'm down there.
    Thanks for your help,
    Greg

  • Image capture and iphoto show no photos from iPod Touch

I am running OS 10.6.8 on my iMac and using iPhoto 7 and image capture. When I connect my iPod Touch (3rd generation) to my computer, both applications show my ipod as being connected, as does iTunes, but neither of the applications show the photos that are on my iPod. Normally I would be able to download them from my iPod, but they are not showing them, though they are clearly on my iPod.
What has changed? This has been working fine until now. Was it because of the iOS update?

You said " my iPod Touch (3rd generation) ". The 3G does not have a camera and thus does not have a Camera Roll album. It does have an album titled "
    Try:
iOS: Unable to import photos to computerSaved Photos".

  • HELP! I lost my photos between image capture and iPhoto

I move photos from my iPhone to iPhoto with image capture. image capture is set to delete the photos after importing them. I just imported some important photos and after image capture deleted them from my phone I saw a message from iPhoto that there was a problem writing to my library and that the images were not imported. Now they are not in iPhoto and not on my iPhone! Where are they? can I get them back? are they gone for good?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That's the one primary reason iPhoto should never be setup to delete the photos after import. Too many incomplete or bad imports and complete deletions. Always have the phone do the deletions.
You would have to ask in the iPhone forum for any way to recover deleted photos. If the iPhone can be viewed on the Desktop as an external HD like some cameras you might be able to use a file recovery application designed for memory cards like MediaRECOVER. They probably will have a better idea in the iPhone forum.

  • Image Capture and iphoto

I set image capture to download photos from my iphone. The setting in icapture said to delete photos after capturing. The download started as ususl deleting photos and videos but when the iphoto screen came on the message sais no photos were captured because there is no room in the iphoto library. Now the images are deleted from my camera and they have not been captured to iphoto. Is there a way to retrieve these images, and why is there no warning that the library is too full before deleting the images?

1 - it is strongly recommended that you never have a computer automatically delete photos - things do go wrong and as you just found out when they do you lose things unless you have a backup (in this case the photos remaining on your iPhone)
2 - Is your drive really too full? How much free space do you have on your disk? You need to have a minimum of 10GB at all times for the system to operate properly  --  if you have less than that then your first priority is to fix that - either delete un-needed files, get an external hard drive for large files like the iPhoto library or install a larger hard drive in your computer

  • Image Capture and iPhoto automatically launch...

    Hi:
I am using OS X Yosemite. Whenever I connect a camera to my computer, iPhoto automatically launches. Since I don't use iPhoto, I have to close it before I can download my photos to Adobe Lightroom. in iPhoto—> Preferences—> General I have it set to "Connecting Camera opens: No application"  But iPhoto launches anyway. How can I make it stop?
Whenever I connect an iOS device to my computer, the app Image Capture launches. I don't need this to happen either. How can I make it stop?
    Thanks!
    Janet

Open image caputre. Plug in the device. Select the device in the list. Open the icon at the bottom of the window and set the device to open no application or choose the application you want it to open.
Repeat for all devices you plug in to that computer.

  • Whenever I'm trying to import videos into Image Capture and iPhoto, it doesn't allow me to?

I've been trying to do this for about an hour now. And it keeps on bailing on me!! I'm super stressed right now and I'm about to rip out my hair.
It keeps on importing my images sure fine, but whenever I try to import a video (all of my images are about a minute, three to four minutes and one close to ten minutes) it says there something wrong with it and it can't import! Grrrr!
Please write ASAP, I realy need someones help!! xxx

Unfortunately, I don't have an iPod, so I'm not familiar with how it works. However, have you tried syncing it - does it wind up in iTunes?
As for iPhoto, you should be able to copy or export the files to whatever location you want: your Documents folder or your desktop for instance. If you have them in iMovie, you will need to work on your project there (iMovie is a video editor, not a filing system or player) and then export/share it. If you export it, you can save it to any location you want as well.

    Hi cfgolf,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities. I agree with your assessment that something is going on with that previous backup. If you restored from that backup and the issue continues, I would recommend restoring and Set up as new. Before you restore, make sure you Transfer content so that you can sync it back after setting up as new. The instructions on how to Transfer content and Set up as new are both listed in this article.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4137
    2. Transfer content
Before you erase your device, take a few minutes to transfer your content from your device to your computer to ensure that all your critical data is safe.
    6. Set up as new
Complete the setup assistant. When prompted to set up your device, select Set Up as New iPhone and tap Next to continue.
Skip the Apple ID sign-in, in case the original issue was related to any of your content on iCloud.
Note: After setting up as new, you will need to enter the Visual Voicemail password for iPhone (on carriers that support Visual Voicemail). If you've forgotten the password, contact your carrier to help you reset it.
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.
    Cheers,
    -Joe

  • I upgraded my iPhone 4 from iOS 3.3.5 to iOS 5.0 and lost all my photos on the camera roll. Where are they and can I  retrieve them?

I upgraded my iOS 3.3.5 to 5.0 on my iPhone 4 and lost all photos on camera roll. Where are they and can they be recovered?

Have you been using your phone as recommended?  If so, you've been importing photos in your camera roll onto your computer for safe keeping.  Just as you would with a standalone digital camera.  Your photos would then reside safely on your computer for archival.
While camera roll photos ARE part of the backup, not everything always goes smoothly as you've seen, which is why the recommendation to import photos as soon as possible to your computer.
If you have a recent backup of your iPhone, you can restore and hopefully many of your photos will be on this backup.  Any photos or data added to your phone since this last backup are, of course, gone forever.

If my iphone says my camera roll is has been backed up on icloud, can I erase my photos off my phone without losing them?

I definitely wouldn't. All you can do with the backup is a full restore and that would overwrite anything you later had added to the phone (including any additional photos). If you have a computer, doing an import is a good idea: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
If no computer, you could send the photos to someplace such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or other online photo storage.
