IPhone 3G S in Europe

We currently live in France and want to purchase the new Iphone here. We will likely be returning to the USA after our job is over here in less than a year. Can we bring the Iphones into the USA and set them up on the AT&T system? or do we have top purchase new Iphones? Anyone have a clue on this?
Thanks.

Most iPhones are sold carrier-locked, which means, no, you can't just switch countries like that. If you can buy them unlocked in France, or if the French carrier will unlock them for you, then you should be able to bring them to the US and use them (on either AT&T or T-mobile, once legally unlocked).
AT&T will not unlock their phones at all, but some countries have laws requiring carriers to unlock phones, though a fee may be assessed. Also make sure that if the carrier unlocks it for you, you will be able to update it without it relocking.

If I would buy a iPhone 5s A1457 in europe, will I be able to use it in Australia?

Maxime, If you bought it with Apple in Nederland (or België) it is unlocked and you can put any sim card in it. If you go to Australia for a long time, do as Allan says, because although it will work, you will not have guarantee in Australia.
If you bought it from a provider, it is locked to that provider and you can not use it with another sim card. This is not really a problem when you are only going to Australia for a short visit, you can go on using your NL sim card, but note that you better set Dataroaming to OFF, otherwise it could be a very costly trip. SMS and telephone will also be more expensive in Australia with a dutch card.
The prices in Australia are not much different (tax included) from NL and BE.

Can I use the charger of the iPhone of Mexico in Europe or I need some adapter?

This question comes up from time to time. YouTube and Facebook are both wrong.
There are a number of con-men who think that they can earn a quick buck from claiming that they own the copyright to Apple’s royalty-free jingles and sound effects included with the iLife applications. These are all free to use, as clearly stated in section 2.C of the iLife Software License Agreement:
“You may use the Apple and third party audio content (“Audio Content”) contained in or otherwise included with the Apple software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual samples, sound sets, or audio content may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound files, sound effects or music beds.”

You should quote this (also providing the above link) when following the dispute process with YouTube.

  • I have an unlocked iPhone 5 purchased from Europe and would like to use it on AT

    Hello-
I purchased an iPhone 5 in Denmark where I live.  It works fine here and when roaming.  I travel to the US every month and therefore have a post-paid full AT&T account.   In fact it is a shared data plan and I spend about $700 per month just from AT&T.  I have had an AT&T account for years but recently moved to Europe.
I can put my AT&T sim in my iPhone 5 without issue, and the basic GSM features work.  In fact, the phone recognizes 4G.  That said, the phone does not support mobile hotspot, FaceTime over cellular, no LTE,  or visual voicemail.
I first went to the AT&T store, and they said no problem.  They swapped my AT&T SIM card, and added features to my account.  However, after several hours still no joy with the advanced features.
When I called AT&T, and explained my issue, they escalated the call to tier 2 tech support.  They escalated it again and said it is an IMEI problem.  Basically, AT&T does not recognize the IMEI of my phone,   They view my iPhone 5 as a generic GSM phone.  I asked them to just "force it" and put it in their database, but they said AT&T was not allowed to do this.  Evidently, Apple does not allow AT&T to classify IMEI numbers.  Their system needs to know that the device is an iPhone 5, and that the only way they can do that is via the IMEI.
So question, how do I get AT&T to recognize my iPhone 5?  I don't want to carry two phones, and just want to be able to swap my SIM card when I travel.
I know that LTE will not work because AT&T uses 700 MHz for their LTE and my phone supports international LTE specs.
    Thoughts?

It sounds as if AT&T has already told you they can't do what you want. It doensn't sould like anything that's fixable on your end.

  • IPhone 4S Connectivity In Europe

I need to know if I can use My Verizon
IPhone 4s in Europe with Local Sim Card

        Hello,
Great news!  Yes, you can use your Verizon Wireless iPhone 4s in Europe with a local sim.  There are some requirements that need to be met before doing so however.  You must be a Verizon Wireless customer with your account being active and in good standings for at least 60 days.  The device being unlocked must also be active on a Verizon Wireless line of service.  This process may only be done once per line every 10 months.  If you meet the requirements above please call the Verizon Wireless Global Support Team to complete the process.  You can reach the GST at 908-559-4899 (outside the U.S.) or 800-711-8300 (inside the U.S.)  Please let me know if you have any additional questions and or concerns.  Thank you.

  • Will the contract-free iphone 5 work in europe?

I'm currently in the US, but only as an exchange student and I was wondering if the iphone 5 without a contract would work both in the US and Europe.

  • Will my iPhone 5 work in Europe?

Will my iPhone five in Norway?

What model number does you iPhone have? Check Settings > General > About and look for model. If it says A1533 or A1457 or A1530 you iPhone is a GSM model which should work in Europe with european carriers but to be absolutley sure you should ask the carrier you want to use in Europe.

To avoid issues probably yes a GSM model
Yes, that would be the iPhone 5 model A1429 for the LTE.  Doesn't have to be unlocked.  It could be locked to your mobile company and only your mobile company.

  • When will iphone be availble in europe

who knows when is the i phone gona be out in europe and at what price, tnx

    Debbie,
It depends on how permanent the move is. If it is just for a few months, you might want to call AT&T and get a good International Voice and Data Roaming plan. It may be a bit expensive, but it will save you from accidentally racking up thousands of dollars in data and telephone usage.
If you are permanently moving to Europe, then it would seem to me that you'd need to get a new iPhone in Europe (in either the UK or Germany as it is now). There are two reasons for this: (1) You cannot use your AT&T iPhone in Europe for months at a time. If you are an AT&T customer and roam for what AT&T deems an excessive amount of time, they have the right to disconnect your account. And they will. (2) Recently, it was revealed that the American iPhone has passed FCC inspection but not EU inspection. This means that because the AT&T iPhone is only certified to work in America, anyone caught using an American iPhone in Europe can run the risk of having their phone confiscated by law enforcement. It is a very slight risk, but a risk nonetheless.
In any event, if this move is going to be permanent or even semi-permanent (>6 months or so), you may have to forego your iPhone and get a replacement unit in Europe with a European service provider.
If I'm wrong about any of this, please someone more knowledgeable chime in. Hope this helps!

  • Using 1st Gen iPhone for calls in Europe (Spain)

I have the original iPhone and I'll be travelling in Spain for a week, where I would like to buy a SIM card with a modest amount of voice minutes, say 200. I do NOT need data (although if I could easily get it I would of course take it.) I do not want to jail-break my phone. Any suggestions from people that have actually done this in Europe?

Unless your phone is unlocked, what you want to do won't work.

  • How can i contact apple so they can send me unlock code so i can unlock my iphone and im from europe?

how can i contact apple so they can send me unlock code and i can unlock my iphone in europe ?

Apple does not unlock iPhones. This is and always has been controlled by the cellular provider. Contact them to determine their unlocking policy and if you qualify.

  • How to libertae my mexican iphone for musing in Europe

How can I obtain a liberation frpm Telcel for usinmg the product in Europe _

You have to contact Telcel to find out if they are willing to unlock your iPhone so that it can be used with local Sim cards in Europe.  When an iPhone is locked to a carrier, it is because the carrier has subsidized the purchase price so that the purchaser pays a price lower than an unlocked phone goes for.
Therefore, only the carrier that subsidized the phone will be able to ask Apple to unlock it.  Under no circumstances will Apple unlock an iPhone from a carrier, unless that carrier asks Apple to do it.
You must contact Telcel and see what their policy is with respect to unlocking iPhones.

  • Using iPhone 5 A1428 in Europe

I'm planning on getting the unlocked iPhone 5, whenever the hype dies down and I can actually get one, but I just have one question before hand.
I'm going to be going to Europe for 1-8 months next year (UK, France, Germany area) and was wondering if the A1428 model of the iPhone 5 would work there at all, and if it would be as simple as just getting a new sim card. I'm not concerned about using the LTE, all I want is to be able to use data, and maybe a few texts and calls.

Welcome. You might want to browse around the App store for GPS apps. There are many. Try to get one that allows you to download the maps before hand. That way the GPS will not have to connect to the internet in order to donwload the maps as needed, which can save you data, especially if you are going to be roaming with your "home" carrier.
I have found that copilot Live is good, but expensive:

I think they have a test version wich you can try out for free.

  • Will a contract free us iPhone 4GS work in Europe?

    Hi
Does anybody know if a US iPhone (contract free) will work in Europe (Denmark)?
    Thanks

No, not unless the iPhone was sold as unlocked.
Contract free does not automatically equate to being unlocked.
