Iphone 3G screen went white

Yesterday I had my phone in my hand with clear picture and all of a sudden it went white. I can still receive calls, and I hear alerts from text messages. When I try to gain access to the screen the only picture I see is white.
Does anybody know what this problem is?
How it can be solved?
responses are appreciated. Thank you!

if the resetting didn't fix it, it's likely a connector inside the phone that came disconnected.
if you phone is less than a year old or you have applecare on it, take it to the apple store. actually, you should go to the apple store anyway, because they will likely tell you what's wrong with it regardless.
they can fix it if it's the connector. if that's not it, it prob means a more serious hardware problem. they might just give you a new phone.

How to: Force your iDevice into recovery mode.
    1. Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
    2. Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
    3. Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
    4. iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."

    5. Use iTunes to restore your device.
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.

  • My iphone 3 screen went white

In the middle of a text, my phone restarted and then came back on white. I've tried holding the HOLD, HOLD and HOME at the same time, and restoring it with my computer. Nothing is working, what else should I do.

    Hey there Maddie,
It sounds like your screen is white and you cannot see anything else on the phone. I recommend the troubleshooting in this specific troubleshooting from the article named:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Display shows a white screen
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
If the iPhone will not turn off, try to reset it.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My iphone 4 screen went white and shows no images.

Bought an iphone 4 in march this year and my screen is not working. Any idea on what to do in this case?

Have you dropped the phone? The white screen is generally an indication of the LCD screen going bad. Did you purchase this phone new? If so, it should still be under warranty. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar or with your Authorized Apple Service Provider, depending on where you live and have the hardware checked.

  • HT202159 Problem with Update on   It started, then the screen went white and the icons for the apps on the desktop were all blackened, 'waiting'.  What now?

It showed a number of apps to be updated on my iPad, so I clicked 'update all' as usual.  It started, then the screen went white.  The icons for the apps on the desktop went black, as they do, with the first one half way around the little circle timer, and two marked 'waiting', with others not that far into the process.  They all stopped.  Now I can't stop the update process in the App Store, or use any of the apps.  What do I do next?  Help, please!

    Hello there, Rev Susi.
From what I can gather you have a few apps that only display "Waiting". The following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue, the answer may help you as well:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

  • My iPhone 5 screen went black.  I cannot get the phone to turn off or respond to the awake button.  What to do?

My Iphone 5 screen went bright white and then black.  The phone still rings, and I can hear Siri.  The phone will not turn off using the awake/sleep button. What to do?

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.

  • After the most recent update, the screen went white on my touch. Any one else have this prob?

After recent update of my 4th gen iPod touch, the screen went white. I can still see the background a little but, there is a screen "burn in" as well. I restored it but it did nothing to fix it. AHHHH!

    That happens sometimes.
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT1349 My iPod touch 4g's screen went white and now it won't reboot or connect to iTunes

I was just on my Facebook app and then I clicked on a link. It's a link that doesn't usually do anything to my iPod. Then, the screen went white. This sort of happened the other day, too. I've tried to reboot it several times, but it won't do anything. It won't connect to iTunes, either. What can I do?

Try posting in the iPod forum. This is the iPhone forum.

No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.

  • Iphone 4 screen went blurry after lcd replacement.

On my iphone 4, Lcd was broken, I bought a new lcd and tried to change myself, but when i am done everything, my iphone 4 screen went blurry with many different colourful lines, and finally screen stays white, i can't use it at all. How can i fix it? BTW when i tried to fix it using itunes my phone keeps rebooting so Itunes couldn't fix it, so i sense there is problem on hardware still. Thanks in advance.

There is no software fix for a hardware problem. This is most definitely a hardware problem. Your best bets are either send it out to someone who does professional iPhone repairs or buy a new phone.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • My daughter tried to open a game on her Ipod touch and the screen went white and I can't get it to do ANYTHING...I've tried holding the sleep/wake button and it does NOTHING, still only a white screen.

My daughter tried to play the My Horse game on her Ipod touch that she got for Christmas and when she opened the game it said something about sending "push notifications" and gave the choice of "don't allow" or "ok"...we chose "don't allow". After that the screen went white and now we cannot get the Ipod touch to respond to anything. I tried holding the sleep/wake button to try to restart it and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions to get this device working again???

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a Restore:
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more that you can do.  Post back if none of the above solves the problem.
By the way, I always allow "push."  That allows the app developer to "push" information to your device rather than waiting for you to ask for it.  However, "don't allow" shouldn't cause the problem that you're experiencing.

  • My ipod touch screen went white and when i plug it into my computer....nothing happens.  help!

I went to turn on my iPod Touch one day and the screen went white.  Tried resetting and got nothing.  Tried plugging in to usb port and got nothing.  Neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my device.  What do I do now?

By resetting did you see the apple logo? Try pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank (black) and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reset.
