IPhone 3G Search Function

Has anyone else noticed how lame the search function is in Contacts and the other apps? What the deal? Couldn't they have integrated an app that searched the entire memory rather than just the first and second name in Contacts?

Yes, the lack of a search function on Calendar is the ONLY reason I haven't bought an iphone yet. I have over 1000 appointments yearly (I am a psychiatrist), and must be able to search for a name in my appointment calendar. So far, as of July 23, I have seen NO apps at the apps store to address this. ANYBODY out there working on one? Seems a no-brainer. Whoever were to develop such an app would probably corner the app market pretty quickly and robustly. Can a clever app programer come to the rescue please!

  • IPhone 5s Voice memo to mp3. Now music on iPhone. Won't play from search function.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ?  Anybody help please.  Thanks

  • The search function in App Store, is not working in my iPhone 4, after upgrading to ios6

The search function in App Store, is not working in my iPhone 4, after upgrading to ios6. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Having the same problem.  No response from Apple as I tried all the suggestions.  Had to perform a system restore.  Currently iy's working.  Make sure you backup everything to your computer.  IOS6 is still glitchy in other areas.

  • Iphone's ipod search function

Does anybody knows when will the apple put a search function in its iphone's ipod for I am a one song at a time guy and I am not use to play music randomly.

Currently there is no way to do this on iPhone. Apple has not announced any intentions of implementing it in a future firmware update. You can suggest it at the link below.

  • Any search function for notes in iPhone

    Hi, Apple Fans:
Does anybody knows how to search in "notes" section in iPhones?  I really need the search function to look up the notes I jut down there.
Right now the notes are arranged by dates but no search function.
if it hasn't be invented, it should have.

Use the Spotlight search function on the phone. You activate this from the home screen by swiping downwards from the middle of the screen. All you need to do is make sure that you have Notes checked in the Spotlight search options in Settings. Go to Setting>General>Spotlight Search and make sure there is a checkmark by Notes.

  • Why is the iphone search function spotlight limited in time?

why is the iphone search function spotlight limited in time? I can only find entries that are less than a year old,but I would like to search older entries in my calender, which goes back to 2002. Anyone has a solution for this?

Are you sure that your calendar still contains entries from that long ago? Generally when you sync the iPhone through iTunes, it will only sync entries from a specific time frame. It may be there older entries have been archived and do not exist on the iPhone anymore. Other than that, I don't see any setting that allows modification to the time frame for Spotlight search.

  • How do I remove a name from the iPhone search function (extreme left page of apps)?, How do I remove a name from the iPhone search function (extreme left page of apps)?

Even after deleting emails and sms messages, a whole lot still show up on the search page. Ideas?

You are correct, the Search Function is very powerful. It even retrieves deleted information. If you really want to delete it, only way I know would be to Restore. But if you Restore from Back-Up, some of those unwantd messages and information may crop up again. You may have to Restotre and Set Up as New iPhone.

  • Search function not working on iPhone 5

I've only had my phone since May 2013 and started messing around with music app about two weeks ago. Things seem to be working fine in the store, but now the search function won't work. The store loads, I click search and one of a couple things happen:
    1. It loads fine and I search
    2. It will load the last thing I searched for, but the search bar is missing so I can't change my search
    3. (this happens most frequently) It says search at the top, and then it's a completely blank screen
I've removed the music app from my active activies and I've powered compeletely down, but nothing seems to fix the blank screen. I've talked with other iPhone users and no one else seems to have encountered this. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi mandibriggs,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  Whenever you encounter that trouble, I would first try force quitting the Music and iTunes apps:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If that doesn't resolve things, then a restart and possibly a reset may help:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • New iPhone search function totally lame!

I was really looking forward to the new "search" function in iPhone 2.0 update. It is totally lame. It will only look for first and last names. This was easy enough to find before. I need it to find phone numbers and information in my notes (just like the real address book search function does).
Hopefully, some other company will make it work properly with a new App.
    Scott

How about a search function that can search your calendar? What good is a "datebook" application if you have to remember where you entered a specific event? iPhone is the biggest disappointments ever. HUGE downgrade from my Treo. Glad they had all of the problems launching 2.0 (which should have been considered 1.0beta)- serves them right for being so arrogant about a less-than-ready product (again).

  • Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones

Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones. And we had a search all along on our iPhones, except only in the Google Maps prog.
    What the _?

the search in safari searches the net, not the 100's of addresses, calendar entries, emails and notes on the iPhone. Any smartphone or phone billed and priced as a smartphone should do this. There should be a sense of urgency to address this one would think. Josh, we have received maybe three software updates now.

  • Mountain Lion Mail Program Search Function.

I upgraded my 2nd Generation Air to Mountain Lion.  The search function on my mail is not nearly as effective as it was before.  I find myself searching on my IPhone or Ipad, then forwarding the mail to my email address so I can open it on my Air.  I can't find it with the Search Mail function on the computer, but can find it easily with the other devices.
I've looked in settings and configuration, but can't see anything that would let me go to a different search function.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I really tried everything but nothing helped.
But finally I solved the problem.
I made a timemachine backup (just for safety reasons).
Then I installed Mountain Lion again over the existing installation.
(I used a USB Stick with Mountain Lion to do that.)
    Now everything works great.

  • ITunes 11.1.4.62 search function isn't working (Windows 8)

My search function is working, but I am unable to press the grey buttons. For example, I can still search for items in the search bar such as "beyonce" and when I press enter, all songs related to Beyonce show up. But I am unable to click the grey "+" button and the ">" arrow button when searching for a particular title. My problem is similar to this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5206626
However, when I follow the solution there, the problem still isn't solved. I'm using Windows 8.
    Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem after the update yesterday. In addition, I was looking through iTunes preferences and noticed my older devices listed along with my current ones and decided to delete the older devices that were listed.
I wasn't sure if the new "Trust This Computer" that is now appearing on the iPhone 5S and iPad after I connect my lightning connector without any sync occuring was due to my deletion of the older devices listed that somehow contained a backup for my current devices, or due to the 11.1.4.62 update.
After reading the above listing I am guessing the new "Trust This Computer" that is appearing with failure to sync after selecting "Yes" on my iPhone 5S and iPad is due to the iTunes update.
Hopefully this is not just a Windows 8.1 64 bit problem, otherwise I'm afraind it may take a long time to be addressed. It's a little scary to see I am only the second listing making me think this could be a Windows problem.

  • Contact search function not found

I've definitely upgraded to iPhone 2.0. I am not finding the search function (I don't see a search field) when I access my contacts through the Phone icon, Contacts tab.
When I use the Contacts icon, I also don't see a search field. I tried tapping the top of the screen thinking that would make it appear but it doesn't. Mysterious, or am I missing something basic here?

    Matcha,
Did you try using the scroll function on the right (all the letters) and go all the way up to the top? There's a little magnifying glass icon above the "a" and when you get up that high, you should see the search field pop into view at the top.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1338 On macbook MAIL the search function doesn't work?

On my macbook retina pro with latest updated softwares the search function in "MAIL" doesnt work. It is supposed to be pretty simple fucntion and on my iphone and othe rmail programs it works fine. However once i type anything in "Search bar" at top right then inbox goes empty and nothing appears. Whereas the search bar gives options of sveral email names etc, even if i select one. It doesn't work.
    Pls help. best regards. NA

Which search function do you mean?
*searching via the location bar (pref: keyword.URL)
*search bar on the Navigation Toolbar
*search bar on the about:home page (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename)
*other search bar (e.g. added by extension)
Is this about the about:home page?
If there is a problem with searching via the default about:home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.
Reset the <b>browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone</b> pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the <b>about:config</b> page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.
#Open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar
#Type in the Filter bar: mstone
#Right-click the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line and select: Reset
    #Close and restart Firefox
If this didn't help then delete the delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder and repeat the above.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • Deleted emails found when using new search function in 3.0

When I do a "search iPhone" I see a list that contains emails that were deleted, some as old as two months. These found emails do not exist in my Comcast account, and they were deleted from Trash. I thought I was not storing any emails on my iPhone, but I can actually call them up.
How do I get rid of these "deleted" emails?
I hope this hasn't been covered too much already, but I could not locate a thread.

I too have done some search's today in the new search function and found deleted e-mails. I use bigpond for e-mails and they get sent to my phone. I then delete them from my phone and trash box and delete them from my e-mail. Using my computer and bigpond my e-mail account has 33 e-mails that I can find. Doing a search on my phone with this new sortware update I can find 870 e-mails which I believe date back to december last year when I got the phone. Some e-mails are VERY sensitive business wise and deleted as required at the time. But if a work person was to pick my phone up they could do a complete search of all my emails without the requirement of a password. If I let someone make a call on my phone, they can get to all the emails that have ever been through my phone within seconds if they choose. A patch or update is needed!!! This fault would hinder business from wanting to use Iphones.
Is there a way to fix this? and how soon?
