Iphone 3g shows Apple screen for a few seconds then shuts down

Hey everyone, I've searched all over for a fix for this, but can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem answered. I was away for a while and didn't use my phone, when I got home today it froze up two or three times, so I put it into recovery mode and went through the normal steps of restoring from my last backup no problem. The phone seemed to backup fine and got was syncing my music/photos/etc. and I decided to go for a run. I came back 45 minutes later and it was shut down and not doing anything. When I went to restart it the black and white Apple logo screen popped up like normal for about 15-20 seconds then it shut down. It continues to do this no matter what I try. The only issue I can think of is that the battery was really low when I plugged it in for the restore, but it made it to the sync portion without a problem, so I'd assume it should have been charging.
I've gone through all the recovery/restore steps I can find on the net. I've tried removing itunes from my computer and reloading it, both just with the application only and then all the correlating files. I've tried restarting about 15 times, plugging into different USB ports and even using my brother's powerbook to restore it. When I plug it in it recognizes that it's plugged in and the boot screen comes up, but it shuts down before it's recognized by itunes.
Has anyone had this problem and overcome it? Does anyone have any input other then referring me to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 or trying to put it into DFU? It's out of warranty and if at all possible I'd rather not buy a new one. Thanks in advance for your help.

I guess, putting it in recovery mode and restoring it "as new phone" is your only chance if you can make it. Restoring from a backup may copy corrupt files back to your phone, causing this problem.

  • IPhone 3G displays apple logo for a few seconds then reboots (continuously)

    Hi all,
So far my iPhone has gone from not turning at all to booting with the apple logo for a few seconds, then disappearing. My device will do this over and over again until the battery is dead. When I plug it into my computer, it works completely fine, syncs, restores, etc. The phone will remain powered on after unplugging from my computer, but my screen is unresponsive to touch and occasionally the lcd will become very dark (dimmed)
My assumption as of right now is that it is a hardware issue, any suggestions or pointers for my next steps? I'm running out of ideas before I give it up and send it to apple

    Hello xtn,
As paulcb mentioned, try resetting the iPhone. The behavior you've mentioned would be consistent with a stuck Sleep/Power button. However, it is odd that it mounts and works OK with your computer. A physically stuck button would tend to cause the iPhone to repeatedly mount and dismount from iTunes as well.
One last thing you can try is to restore the iPhone and set it up as a new phone.
If the issue persists, you may need to have it serviced:

Hey guys, just picked up a Z68a-G45 (G3) and I'm currently running the following hardware on it:
i5 3570k 3.4ghz at 95w (I have verified that the mobo is compatible with this chip) with stock cooler
    1 DIMM of 4gb Kingston HyperX ddr3 1600 ram
OCZ ZT series 750 watt modular PSU
I currently have the graphics card, SSD, HDD, and CD-ROM out for trouble shooting purposes.
Currently, when I start her up it thinks for a second, powers up, fans spin, and then after a few seconds it dies and restarts.
I went down to 1 DIMM, cleared CMOS, checked for bent pins, even tried a different PSU all with the same result. Is this likely due to the board?
    Thanks!
Verified how exactly? Yes that CPU is compatible, but only when an Ivy UEFI/BIOS update has been performed.

  • When I try powering up my phone it stays on the logo screen for a few seconds then turn off, whats wrong with it?

When I try to power up my iphone 4 32g, it will stay on the apple screen for a few seconds then turn off. even when I try connecting it to my computer it turns on for a few seconds then turns off. Whats wrong with it? and what do I do about it?

Have you tried charging it with another known working USB sync cable?  After letting it sit to "charge" for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting the device by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My iPhone 3G phone button no longer works. If I push it I get a black screen for a few seconds then back to the home screen. Everything else is ok. Any ideas how to fix this?

The phone button on my iPhone 3G no longer works. Everything else on the iPhone works fine. I can receive incoming calls. I can make calls directly from Contacts. But if I press the phone button I get a blank white screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I've tried the hard reset and also restoring orignall settings via iTunes but keep getting the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you, Neil.

Thanks for the advice but I've tried resetting network settings and also the reset by pressing home and sleep buttons until getting the Apple logo. Still have the same problem. To be clear (because I mistakenly typed black instead of blank in the title to this thread): If I press the phone button I get a BLANK WHITE screen for a few seconds then it goes back to the home screen. I doubt it's the SIM card as I can receive calls and make them directly from contacts. What I can't do is view my favourite numbers or missed calls or access my voicemail, i.e. all the things you get to via pressing the phone button.

You can take some of the steps here, #4, #5 or even trying a #18
Step by Step to fix your Mac
but I suspect your going to first have to create a data recovery drive
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
to get your data off the machine,
then do a #20 to eliminate the bad sectors as that's why your getting the "pinwheel" it's getting a delay reading from the drive, right when your trying to log in too, what a bad spot for it to happen.

  • My MacBook Pro, even when connected to the power chord, will turn on for a few seconds then shut back off. Any ideas on what is wrong?

I Am trying to turn on my MacBook Pro laptop, but when I do, it starts to turn on for a few seconds then shuts off again. It has around 80% charge and even if the power chord is connected it won't turn on. Need some help because I am out of the US right now and there are not a Mac store or anything that I could go to.

HAve you tried using a different power chord? If the power chord is not the issue, it could be the power supply inside your mac.

screen locked up and shows the battery with low red and ligtning bolt and cannot hard shut down or reset just stays there for a few seconds then black screen. hooked up to computer and itunes doesnt recognize it or even shows that it is pluged in.  looked and made sure nothing is broken or metal in ligting port or on cable which would prevent it from accepting a charge. ipod is only a month old and seems like a waste of money if its so hard to try to get an explanation of why this is ive been tryning to get an answer from apple for a week now.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Try to backup and restore you device in itunes...restoring the device is like removing the iOS software off the device and re-add in a newer software, after you have restore you device, MAKE SURE YOU SET UP YOUR DEVICE LIKE A NEW DEVICE, DONT NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP!!... give the device a chance to use the newer software and see if the issue still persisting, if the issue still on going then its would be a hardware issue.
Call Apple Care and see if your device is still under warranty to get it replace
