IPhone 3G sim in a 3G S phone
Hello,
I have recently upgraded one line to an iPhone 3G S and put in a sim from an iPhone 3G. I noticed that the Sim's were slightly different. The 3G S is getting lots of dropped calls and the battery life is poor. I'm trying to rule things out before making my way back to the Apple Store so does anyone know if the 3G sim might be causing an issue in a 3G S phone?

There are some that claim that SIMs are "married" to phones in the case of the iPhone - although i have used other AT&T sims in my iPhone.
For dropped calls issues, AT&T will usually want to swap SIMs out first anyway, so you could always go to a nearby AT&T store and get a new SIM without the trek to an Apple store. I don't think Apple has extra SIM cards - but I could be wrong.

I just got an apple at&t iphone 4 and I have it unlocked. But I want to connect it to t-mobile, so I trimmed my sim card and once the phone was unlocked I inserted the sim and it says no sim, activation error. What can I do to fix this? What is wrong?

My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?.. Is it because my 3g is only active on the android os and not the ios platform? Texts, Calls and Wifi work fine but the 3g doesn't work. My phone only shows 'GPRS' in the top left corner. Also I get a message come up saying "Could not activate mobile data network. You are not subscribed to a mobile data service".

All I had to do was change one of my APN settings to mobile.o2.co.uk and reboot my phone and this sorted it out straight away! Thanks again. Much appreciated . I was thinking I was going to have to go back to an android phone to use my 3g again but this eliminated that need. Thanks.

I have tried to update my 3GS phone and now it longer works as it comes up with message there is no sim card installed in the phone. Can anyone help please as I am no where near technical support as I am working as volunteer in remote Asian country

Thanks for asking, I knew I had forgotten to mention something. The phone was indeed unofficially unlocked, since there were no apple stores or even premium resellers in the region I lived in during the given procedure had to be done.
I understand this could be a further complication, especially the fact the home button does not work. However, I was wondering if there would be a possibility to use a third-party application instead of iTunes to restore the iPhone? IF someone does know of such an application, I could easily solve further problems myself. Basically, the main issue here is my lack of ability to enter DFU mode. -

Hi just bought an iphone 4 today tried to activate the phone and it won't let me..I go through language ect and it says activateing iphone may take a few mins then just stops and message on screen says that the sim carrier is not supported and please use the sim which came with the phone(which i am..& have tried another sim and still not working)........It wont let me bypass have tried reseting phone and restarting it nothing helps????
Your iPhone is locked to the original carrier who sold it
Only they can unlock it
The sim the iPhone refers to is the one the iPhone is locked to

If it now says "invalid" or "unsupported" SIM, your iPhone was almost certainly hacked to unlock it from the original cell carrier and updating has now removed that hack and the iPhone has relocked back to that original carrier. You will have to contact that carrier and ask if it would be possible to get your iPhone officially unlocked.

Make an appointment at the genius bar and see if they can help you get it out. Hopefully, you didn't physically damage the phone. Nano-SIMs are thinner than Micro-SIMs, as well as being smaller.
Then, go to your carrier and get an actual Nano-SIM. -
My iPhone 4S accidentally fell into a very shallow bit of water. The phone was wet, but worked afterwards for a short bit. Now it's not working, so I called and got a replacement phone coming. Same exact phone. Can I use the old Sim card in the new phone without harming anything? I don't know if the sim card got messed up or not, but I had a lot of pictures and messages and my contacts on my phone, and I assume these were on the sim card or am I wrong? I just wan to know if I can use the old sim card if it's still working in the new phone that is coming, as long as there was no damage to it? Thanks
I think I had it on the iCloud, I just changed computers and had part of my old computer backed up, where are the default iTunes info saved like the pictures and I know my contacts were backed up cuz I kept getting updated stuff that I wasn't sure about, but it was contacts where some belonged to my wife's contacts....but anyway, if the cloud backed up contacts, it should have grabbed pictures too? Like I asked before, if they were backed up to the computer, is there a default iTunes folder they are saved to? I had a crap load of pictures on there that I usually could really access if I was connected to wi-fi. I turned off my data stuff as I only have 4GB and between me and my 2 kids, we seemed to use up a lot of it. My son would play music from Pandora during work, and use up all our data til I limited him to only 3GB, my daughter and I barely used 1GB. Anyway, thanks to everybody that is answering. I thought I might have done good finding the dang sim card, but pointless I guess.
Ralph - F.Y.I. I would be happy to back up the iPhone if I could turn it on LOL......I am pretty positive I did, but what about Text messages? ANY of those saved too or not? Sorry guys, I don't know a **** of a lot about cell phones, but I do know about memory cards, but not sim cards that act like memory cards or look like them anyway. What is the purpose of a sim card if I may ask a stupid question since they don't hold any data from my phone stuff. I'm sorry to hear that your iPhone 4s was lost, and glad that you were able to upgrade.
If your iPhone 4s was backed up to iCloud or using iTunes, you can restore the backed up data to your new phone.

Regarding iPhone 5, at the latest model, if I bought an unlocked one from UK Apple Store, iPhone 5 GSM A1429, then I tried to use CDMA SIM card inside the same phone, does it'll work and provide me signals or not. ??

None of the major carriers offer PAYG service in the US, but if you buy a contract-free phone for full price you can get a plan that can be canceled at any time from any of the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile). There are smaller resellers that offer PAYG service (StraightTalk, for example), but they are hard to deal with.
The most liberal is the GSM carrier T-Mobile. They have "unbundled" the phone from the service, so if you bring your own phone or pay full price for a phone the monthly cost will be lower.
The other 3 will charge you the same monthly cost whether you pay full price for the phone or get a subsidized phone.
Verizon iPhone 5 series phones are unlocked out of the box for international use (thanks to a condition the FCC imposed on Verizon when they were allowed to buy a substantial chunk of spectrum). They are the only phones sold in the US that will work on LTE bands in the UK and Europe.
Sprint is not a good choice, because they give you a hard time if you want to unlock your phone.
AT&T phones are locked, but they will unlock the phone if you pay full price or pay off your early termination fee. However, they will only work on GSM in the UK, not on LTE (4G). -
I am trying to download sims freeplay in my iphone 4s. But it is not downloading. Is it not available in iphone 4s or it is just my phone?

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement. -
