IPhone 3G Temperature Error - Water Damage

Let me give a basic run down of what happened. (I'll get to the temperature error)
2 nights ago, I was shaving and had the sink full of water (I had a very strong feeling I was gonna drop my phone in). and I did. I pulled it out in half a second or less, almost as soon as it hit the water. There was a towel right there and I dried it off immediately. I sat outside thinking hey it's hot it'll dry out my phone. I was texting people but my service was shaky and it kept giving me the "accessory was not made for iPhone" error and asking if I wanted to put it in airplane mode to reduce audio interference. I started seeing water leaking out of all the openings and the home button so I took it inside and put a hair dryer to it, part of the time on the hottest setting. (Yes, stupid me, I didn't know any better I had never dropped something like that in water). I could still text at this point and receive texts but my service was still on and off. I turned my phone off let it dry, later turned it back on and it wouldn't stay off, it would just reset and flash on and off. Apparently I was still receiving texts, but at this point I just left it in a bag of rice to dry. Came back to it later, it was off, turned it on and got all my texts/replied to them, then my service dropped again. So I just turned it off and let it dry more. I heard about the "vacuum trick" to vacuum all the water out of your phone. So earlier today I tried it, and tried to turn my phone on. It gave me a temperature error, saying I would have to wait and let the phone cool down before I could use it. I also had no service. And the phone won't turn off, just reset. It wasn't in an environment where it was too hot or cold, just in a 75 degree air conditioned room in a bowl of rice. Oh yeah, and I took the SIM card out to let it dry as well. I vacuumed the slot for that too.
Can anyone help me figure this out? I even let it sit for a while after I vacuumed it and I'm still getting the temperature error.

Are you eligible for AT&T's upgrade or fully subsidized price with a new phone?
If not, then AT&T's fully subsidized price for the 8GB 3G which is $99, and for the 16GB 3GS is $199 doesn't apply. If you don't qualify for AT&T's fully subsidized price, the only way you can get these prices would be to cancel your existing contract having to pay an early contract termination fee along with having to change your phone number, which makes Apple's "repair" price, which is a discounted exchange price not all that unreasonable. The full retail sales price for the Phone is $300-$400 more than that depending on the storage capacity.
And I suggest keeping your next phone out of the bathroom and vanity area, whatever phone that ends up being.

Only the original cellular provider can authorize unlocking. You will need to contact them to determine if they offer unlocking and if the phone qualifies.

  • TS4062 my iphone 4 has mild water damage and will not sync with cable.I want to sync it over wifi to reload data I deleted during my troubleshooting, but I did not set up for wifi sync before the damage. Is there a way that this can be done now ?

My iphone 4 has mild water damage. As a result, it will not sync with it's former XP computer with the cable. I deleted the phone's data in the troubleshooting process. I want to get it back by syncing over wifi, but I did not set up this capability before the damage occured.is there another way to initiate this feature ? I can tell that they are connecting in the cloud because an app I just downloaded on the phone is showing up in itunes on the computer.

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • IPhone 5 suffered heavy water damage, just started functioning regularly-- Need help!

So last July my iPhone 5 experience severe water damage. Apple store employees said that there was little they could do. The phone would not function
Fast forward to 6 months later: I hook up the phone to the wall outlet and the black screen shows up with rows and rows of white text. I can hook it up to iTunes but it can't restore.
Fast forward to today (a year later): I plugged my phone into the wall outlet and hooked it up to iTunes. The phone successfully was updated and restored. It now seems to function normally. I'm considering calling my carrier to switch back to my iPhone 5, however I'm not sure if it will fail on my later because there was extensive water damage before. What are your guys' thoughts?

however I'm not sure if it will fail on my later because there was extensive water damage before. What are your guys' thoughts?
It will fail at some point or start acting in a strange manner. And such failure will occur at the time you need the device the most according to my friend Murphy. When the device was water damaged you could have gotten an out of warranty replacement for less than the price of a new phone. In fact you may still be able to get such a replacement. Check with the local Apple store.

  • IPhone 4s repaired from water damage and cant update

My iPhone 4s dropped in water, and I took it for repairs, when I picked it up, the guy said i should avoid Apple updates or App updates, why? His explanation was, if I update it, it will block my phone completely, and no one but Apple can fix it?

You check with Apple before handing it over to someone with a shady repair service that has an "i" in the name.
You have a hacked/jailbroken phone. Probably because whoever "repaired" the water damage replaced the logic board with one that was illegally hacked to unlock it.
Apple does not "repair" liquid damaged phones. They replace them entirely with refurbished units.
Sorry. You got ripped off. Take it to whoever fixed it and let them know that's unacceptable. Then take whatever settlement you can get from them and buy a new phone.
You will never be able to update or restore that phone without permanently bricking it.

  • Upgrading from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 Plus after Water Damage

My iPhone 5 fell in water back in October of 2014. I placed the phone in a bag of rice for 3 days
straight when it happened. It dried out fine and worked like nothing happened. Didn't matter I had
to upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus anyways since it was released around that time. I decided to leave
my last existing backup on my computer (that I did before the phone dropped in water), and not backup
the phone after the water drop. Because the data could potentially be corrupt due to the oxidization of
components inside. Long story short I have the iPhone 6 plus now I got yesterday.
    What I need to know:
My iPhone 5 still works but obviously it now doesn't have a working sim card. There are apps I wanted to
take snapshots of, or files I wanted to export from various places from after the water drop happened (which
I never backed up for reasons mentioned above. I already did a backup restore to the new iPhone 6 Plus from
the backup file made prior to the water drop. The iPhone 6 Plus is working flawlessly.
Can I use both phones at the same time with the apps going at the same time? Or will their be a weird
lockout conflict of sorts? Remember one phone has a working sim, but the apps will be the same as the
old phone and I don't want to use both at the same time if it will cause problems.

It won't cause problems to use both. Of course without a sim card in the iPhone 5 it will be just a glorified iPod touch now and will have no access to cellular networks, sms, etc. But it will at least work, and any apps that can run over wifi will continue to work as before.
You might find an app like iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com) useful for getting any remaining info off your iPhone 5 and onto your new iPhone 6 Plus.

Likely Applecare would not have covered this damage; so don't feel too bad about not having it.

I believe I read a flat rate number, but don't recall what it is. Someone will chime in.

  • IPhone 5 (HK model) water damage - need replacement but located in Canada

Please advise on the following situation:
I have purchased an iPhone 5 in Dec 2012 through a carrier located in Hong Kong.
Most recently I have cancelled my contract with them and have immigrated back to Canada.
During last week I dropped my iPhone in the water and now the phone will not turn on (but will attempt recovering the phone when plugged into the comptuer - which ultimately fails).
Here are the steps that I took:
    1. I went to Apple store in Canada for assessment of the phone. They suggested getting a replacement phone but cannot do so because my phone (purchased from HK) is apparently built differently from the models sold in North America. They advised me to contact Apple HK
    2. Contacted Apple HK through phone; advised me to contact carrier which I got the iPhone from because apparently they will not offer a replacement phone without first attempting to resolve the issue with the carrier - i.e. Apple will replace / fix it when there's some sort of proof from the carrier that they will not / coudln't fix it (the representative I was talking with on the phone sound limited in terms of knowledge in this area). I asked for the cost of a replacement phone in HK and no price was given (unlike the time when I asked in the Toronto store).
    3. Called phone carrier at which I got the phone from: told me to bring the phone to store and have them take a look at it. Carrier would not issue replacement phones, but can attempt to fix it (for a fee of course).
Now before mailing my phone back to my relatives in Hong Kong and have them resolve the issue through the carrier (which would likely end up with an expensive repairment cost that is more than a replacement phone from Apple), I am wondering if there is something that can be worked out with Apple directly.
Has anyone here gotten into the same situation with me that can offer me some advice on what I can do? i.e. Can I...
    a) request to have a replacement phone (HK model) sent to the Apple store in Toronto, Canada and pay for the replacement cost there?
    b) replace my iPhone 5 HK model with an iPhone 5 North American model?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
We are all Apple-products users here.
As per terms of sale none of the two requests can be met. Warranty or Out-of-Warranty services are available only in the Country of first sale, HK in the present context. The iPhone needs to be hand carried to HK now, so that Carrier or Apple there can assess the damage and offer a replacement of similar model.
it appears that in the present situation you will not be able use the HK model in Canada. Therefore, your options are limited.

  • If my iPhone 4s possibly has water damage (but still works perfectly fine) and I have total equipment coverage, can I still upgrade to the iPhone 6 tonight?

    ?

duffyc129 we'll make sure that everything is crystal clear! Damage does reduce the trade in value, however you can still process the pre-order http://vz.to/1e948q1  . It will be your choice whether you'll like to complete an insurance claim http://bit.ly/07CrqPK  to receive the full value of the 4S.

  • My iPhone 4 has been water damaged and the screen short-circuited.

I am getting a replacement phone from my mobile provider but I want to back up first so i can save the data I have on my phone since my last back up.  I can see the phone in i-Tunes but I have a passcode on the phone which I can't enter as the screen isn't functioning - is there any way I can get round this?  Would really like to save the photos and video from Christmas Day.
    Many thanks!

Sorry. If it's been damaged to the point where you can't enter the passcode, there is no way around it at this point.

  • SLIGHT water damage, displays iPhone temperature message

My iPhone 4S experienced slight water damage because a few of my (idiot) friends decided to throw it around in a pool. It had a LifeProof, so it was okay until the charger port came undone. It was alright at first, until I assume that (because I'd cracked my back glass a year ago) water seeped into the back. Right now, after charging it to a full charge, it works most times you hit the home button. The screen is responsive, but I can't access anything because it displays a message saying my iPhone is overheating. Is there anything I can do to save it?

I'm afraid you'll have to get it serviced, Apple will probably offer you the Out-Of-Warranty service. If you pay the service fee, your device will be replaced with a new phone.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPhone model
    Out-of-Warranty Service
    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c,
    iPhone 5
    $269
    iPhone 4s
    $199
    iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS,
    iPhone 3G, Original iPhone
    $149
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax.

  • Can you restore the data from an iPhone 6 if it has water damage?

i want to know if i can get all the data that was on my iPhone 6 that has water damage.

No way to tell until you try. If the water damage was severe enough
to prevent the iPhone from starting up, then the answer is effectively no
    (see next paragraph).
Companies specializing in data recovery may - emphasis on may - be
able to recover some data. Attempts are very very expensive and there are
no guarantees. Google/Bing/Yahoo/etc should assist in locating such companies.
