IPhone 3G to NOT support multitasking...

I am wondering why the iPhone 3G will not support multitasking when OS 4.0 is released later this summer? This makes no sense to me. Were there that many hardware improvements between the 3G and 3GS (which will support multitasking)?

Most 3rd party free apps already include ads.
As it stands now, when selecting an add with a free app on purpose or accidentally, Safari is launched which quits the app. With 4.0, an add included with a free 3rd party app that is selected on purpose or accidentally will be displayed within the app instead which can be then be cancelled - without Safari launching to go to the add and the app being quit. Since 3rd party apps won't be able to run in the background with a iPhone 3G running 4.0, this will be a good thing for those using a free 3rd party app who accidentally or on purpose select an add with most free 3rd party apps already including ads anyway.

iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer.
It couldn't be much easier than that as you don't actually have to do anything more than normal.
This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
USB syncing is far faster than Bluetooth.

  • Intermittent problems with iphone 3g "charging not supported"

I notice quite a few complaints about intermittent 'charging not supported' messages.
I have been getting the same message on my iphone 3g.
I have ELIMINATED the cord and plug as the problem in this case by the following method:
I found that by LOWERING the line voltage to the charger with a variac, I could get rid of the message RELIABLY for a period of time.
By turning the variac off and on, and by varing the voltage setting, I can reproduceably get either charging or 'charging not supported'.
Since there are no changes being made in the connections to the phone and charger, I eliminate them as causing to the problem.
I suspect a deteriorating component in the charger is reporting some kind of error to the phone via some communications channel.
I have not tried opening the charger, but if and when it finally dies, I will do so.
This morning, the charger worked with the variac set to 80 volts.
Anyone on the design team around that can suggest other tests?
    -bz-

The unit finally failed and I opened it up. It appears to consist of an AC-->dc converter with suitable filters and regulators and a small computer that probably talks via I2C or a similar protocol to the iphone.
I suspect that components are defective and the output voltage is outside the range it thinks it should be or some problems with the communications cause it to send an erronious message in response to the query sent by the iphone. I did NOT see any obviously bulging electrolytic capacitors, but I did not test for high ESR and I suspect that is the problem.
A 'off brand' AC Charger of iPod and iPhone from Radio Shack works fine while BOTH authentic APPLE iphone 'tiny cube' chargers are going for recycling.
Software fixes may cause the iphone to either keep trying until it gets the right response or ignore the erronious responses.

  • IPhone Safari does not support CitiBank Online banking

I have tried repeatedly to access my online banking account without success. I just got off the phone with CitiBank. The iPhone Safari is not compatible with their online banking system. Reminds me very much of the first beta version of Safari which did not support online banking either. Apple please update Safari for the iPhone.

Safari for iPhone fully supports what Citibank is doing. It is Citibank that is choosing to only allow specific browsers, if they are blocking you.
It is Citibank that needs to allow iPhone Safari; there is nothing Apple can do technically to change this.

  • Iphone 3s hardware not supported by Windows xp

I plugged in my wife's iphone 3gs phone to update in Itunes.  I got a message from Windows that the hardware driver was not recognized.  I was able to get in Itunes and record my device.  It started updating.  I came back to an error message and now Windows refuses to recognize the iphone when I plug it in and Itunes will not pull up my phone as a recognized device either.  I see the iphone in backup but cannot restore it.  All my phone shows is a picture of the USB cord to connect to Itunes.  How do I get Windows XP to accept the Iphone hardware?  Please help me restore this iphone.  Thank you,

Remove and reinstall iTunes. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Disable your antivirus and firewall before updating or restoring the phone.

  • IPhone .mov files not supported

I'm running Aperture 3.2.1 and OSX 10.7.2 and I have an iPhone 4. I very recently migrated from iPhoto to Aperture.
When I download the photos and videos from my iPhone to Aperture now, they all appear in the Aperture library as they are supposed to. However, the videos do not have a thumbnail, but a black/blank image with a triangle/exclamation point in the center. It reads "Unsupported video format" and when I try to play the links, they do not play. I can however, open them in Quicktime and they play fine. Previously they appeared in iPhoto and could be played there, if I recall correctly.
I apologize if this is explained elsewhere, but AAPL's funky search feature for the forums has defeated me. Can anyone explain for me:
    a) Is this how Aperture is supposed to work with the iPhone? (boggles the mind, but possible)
    b) If not, how to fix?
    c) If so, are there workarounds available?
I liked the way iPhone video was handled in iPhoto, but Aperture is much better with its imaging capabilities. But it bugs the **** out of me that I can't sort/review my videos in the same application.
    Thanks for your help.
    Liam

    Hello sarbsohi,
This can be resovled by creating a version of the file that is compatible with your iPhone.
Select a video and choose File > Create New Version > Create iPod or iPhone Version.
iTunes: Videos may be unable to sync to iPhone, iPad, or iPod

  • 'The account requires encryption which is not supported' after 3.1 upgrade

    HELP!
Upgraded to 3.1 and got the following regarding my Exchange email from work:
    POLICY REQUIREMENT
The account XXXX requires encryption which is not supported on this iPhone.
    (Disable)
    Help. What does this mean?
Do I need to go back to 3.0? Why would they change something to 3.1 to not make it work with my Exchange server.
Is there something I need to change or fix on my phone?... really dont want to go back to 3.0 (and don't even know how to)
    Help please

    Got the same thing.
My guess is there is an indication from the Enterprise Exchange server that data encryption is required, given that corporate suits are so enamored with being paranoid.
WIth 3.0, that indication was ignored, but in 3.1 it is apparently checked, and since the iPhone 3G does not support encryption (3GS does) it fails and the account is disabled.
I will talk to my IT dept. tomorrow, but I don't expect any sympathy. But, I don't really care as it's my phone and the company doesn't pay for it.
If you have a company-issued phone you probably should not update without your IT permission...
