IPhone 3G to Verizon iPhone

I have been waiting FOREVER for a Verizon iPhone because of all the dropped calls I get on ATT. My current 3G is running version 3.1.3. I never updated, since I didn't want to risk issues that some others had when updating their 3Gs to version 4. Two questions:
1) When I get my Verizon iPhone, will I encounter problems when I plug my new phone into my computer?
2) I am going to give my old 3G to my 6 year old nephew to use as a Touch to play games. I will restore to factory settings before giving it to him. Should his parents update to version 4?

1) No you can infact use your backup of your 3G to update your iphone 4 once you get it so that you will still have all your settings.
2) Yes and no. Yes you can restore it to factory settings but doing it from itunes will force it to go to 4.2.1. If you want to reset it to factory then do it on the phone itself. This will take a while but it will do the same thing. Also you will have the same sim card in it. Just make sure you deactivate it from AT&T which should be done at the Verizon store when you port your number over to your new phone. Just leave the sim in the old one so you don't have that message no sim. I have an old 3G and it works just fine that way.

can I transfer my voicemails from old att iphone to new verizon iphone?

Syncing won't transfer the photos.  If you want to transfer you camera roll photos, as well as your other data and settings, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109.  If you only are concerned with photos, import them from your old phone to your computer as shown here:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then put them in a folder and select to sync this folder to your new phone on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sycing your new phone.

  • Transfer Data: ATT iPhone 3GS to Verizon iPhone 4

Just purchased a Verizon iPhone 4 and would like to transfer the data from our previous ATT iPhone 3GS.
I've done quite a bit of searching and have read the support article HT2109, but cannot seem to find an option to use the original phone's backup file to restore from. It shows in the backup list, but is not available when connected to the new phone.
I'm sure this has been hashed out, but I've been unable to find it...yes, my search-fu could be weak.. ;/
If someone could point me in the proper direction it would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Other than the restore from backup process in iTunes, no. If your Verizon iPhone were running iOS 4.3.1 you could use that backup, but not with iOS 4.2.6 on your phone. You'll just have to wait until Apple releases a new iOS for your phone.

  • Why I'm happy I bought a Verizon iPhone... and not At&t

For years, my brothers (and we are all adults... very mature... haha) have rubbed their iphones in my face... always showing me how much better their phones were than mine.  They kept taunting me asking why I didn't get an iphone... and then smacked me with the fact that, oh yeah!  My provider doesn't have the iphone!
Well, the glorious day came and the Verizon iphone was announced.  Whats more, I was ready for a new contract!  I was so excited!  They then had to rub in my face that their network was faster and they can do data and calls at the same time.  I countered with the more 3g and better CALL service... but of course, this didn't matter to die-hard At&t customers...
I've had my phone since Monday, and absolutely love it.  I am absolutely thrilled with it.  Then Friday night came... the weekly dinner at the parents, where the Verizon iphone and the At&t iphone came head to head.  My on brother asked for a speed test.  Yes... At&t was faster on the iphone 4 (the verizon iphone 4 beat the at&t 3gs that my one brother still has.. he'll be ready for the 5 with his contract renewal).  There was no doubt in my mind that an iphone 4 on at&t would be faster that the one on Verizon.  I then asked how many calls they dropped this week... They had a few... I had none... a phone that serves its purpose PLUS the extras... still sounds better to me...
Then the moment happened.  My brother's 3gs dropped a call... then couldn't make any or receive any.  He thought it was his phone because his is about 1.5 years old now...  So I called him from my verizon phone.  The call went through... then after a few minutes, his call dropped.  He tried calling my mother, who also has the at&t iphone 4... it didn't work.  She tried calling him... didn't work.  My other brother jumped in... it seemed that At&t was having network problems!  I was able to get a call through to all of them for a short period before they would drop my call.
As my brother finally got a call through to another at&t subscriber, he was burdened with having to say "Hello?  Hello?  Can you hear me?  Hello?  How about now?  Can you hear me now?"  I couldn't contain myself.  I pulled up my youtube and set my phone in front of him with this playing...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2H-3Gf_fL8
The best satisfaction came when he asked to borrow my phone so that he can actually make a phone call.   Way to go verizon!  May not be the FASTEST network... but I'm happy to say that it is the most reliable!

lol...that's priceless. i golf with 3 friends that used to be verizon users and all switched 2 years ago to get an iphone. i have an android. when they first got them, they would activate their gps golf app just because they could to show off their new toy (even though in phoenix, the courses we play HAVE gps built in to the golf carts...lol). they would input their cores into their apps that kept track of their handicap, scores, driving distance, etc (mind you, my android could do all of this as well). but then it came...we were running an hour and a half late and were meeting our wives for dinner. we play desert courses out side of the city. i called my wife to let her know we'd be late and not to show up for a while. they all 3 could not and asked to use my phone. normally i would've gladly handed it to them, but because they had been SO childish about showing off their toys i simply said "sorry...i can't. you guys all switched carriers and are now KILLIN my minutes since you are no longer in verizon's network." now i had told my wife to call their wives and pass on the message to meet us later....but i didn't tell them that because it was just WAY too much fun watching them sweat for the next 2 hours over how angry their wives were going to be that we would be at the restaurant 2 hours late.
if you REALLY want to up your brothers, you can pay for the hotspot feature ($20/month)...just for a month. the next time they can't send or recieve data, activate your hotspot feature and tell them they are welcome to use your wifi signal from your phone to make their iphone useable again....lol. and if they ever need to borrow it to make a call just let them know that you can't because they burn all of your minutes (if you have a limit) by remaining with at&t...lol.

  • How do I use my AT&T SIM card for the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5s?

So I am planning on getting an unlocked verizon iPhone 5s but the thing is my carrier is AT&T. So how do I use my AT&T SIM card for the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5s?

If you plan on using AT&T, why on earth would you purchase a Verizon iPhone? Doesn't make any sense. Yea, it will work on AT&T's network, but you won't get LTE, only 3G. LTE requires using a Verizon sim.
This is an extremely poor idea. Purchaase an officially unlocked iPhone, from Apple, if you want to use AT&T's network.

  • Verizon iPhone 4 Battery Draining issue (continued)

This is not a question or help topic but more of an announcement. Here's my story:
I preordered the phone on it's February 3rd date and recieved the phone on February 7th. I did as Apple instructs when you get a new idevice (drain the battery down till it dies then recharge it to 100%.) I did that and began to use it, and keep in mind this was not heavy usage at all. I didn't have any app store apps installed at all, I set all settings in the phone to the best configuration for battery saving (truning off push notifications, turning off location services for apps you do not need, no bluetooth, no VPN, brightness at 33%, ect.) Now I thought the battery was strange as I had made my first phone call on 100% battery and it was a 5 minute call. I kid you not I lost 10% battery from one phone call. I thought that was rediculous so I went into my local verizon store and had it replaced. I did the same as I did last time and let the battery drain till it died and filled it to 100%. Tried the phone out and still had the same issue. I went back in and got my 3rd iphone 4. Did the same steps as before and drained then filled it. Yet again, I still had troubles with 3 phones in a row. I cantacted apple and got in contact with an apple engineer named Andrew. He sent me a file that they created that monitors what all is being used by the battery and monitors background processes and applications. I let that run for 24 hours and sent the battery loggin file back to Andrew. They reviewed the log and gave me a call the next day. They told me they did find some very significant battery draining and advised me to go to the nearest apple store ASAP and have the phone checked out. I drove 2 hours to the nearest store for them to just tell me the phone is fine (yotta yotta yotta) and they did a hard reset and restore on the phone (which I could have done from home on my computer and save the gas they made me waste driving for a total of 4 hours!) I tried contacting Andrew agiain but Andrew did not reply to any email sent to him nor return my calls. I got the point that he didn't want to deal with me anymore so I then decided to go the Verizon route. I called Verizon tech support and was transferred to a teir 2 representative. I told her my story, how many replacements I had, and how bad the battery life was. I told how my grandmother has an iphone 4 and I sat down comparing the 2 (battery life wise) and she chewed me out saying things like, "How dare you compare AT&T and Verizon!" I didn't want to listen to her chewing me out so I hung up. The next day I gave apple a call once again and they told me things I had already heard several times so I hung up. I called Verizon back and they said ok let's send you a replacement phone. Well the replacement phone came and wouldn't ya know it? The phone still had the same problem and on top of that they only sent me a phone. No box, no headphones, no USB cable, no charger. I called Verizon about this and asked why they only sent me a phone and they said, "Well you get to keep the phone but we want the other things back. The box, headphones, charger, USB cable, ect." I told them no and that they could have their refurbished phone back. This phone was not even refurbished. the reason I kow that is because it had someone's name written in the phone and it was still on 4.2.5. Had it been refurbished they would have done a fresh restore and update as 4.2.5 was deemed obsolete. That was very insulting in my opinion. So I sent that back and contacted apple one last time. I asked what other options I had as I was stressed and did not want to hear the same things I have already heard. they said they could send me a new phone free of charge and have me send back my current phone. I agreed to give it one last shot but I am still not confident that this phone will be any different.
Now that's my story. Now let me go into a discussion. I have been doing my own litle "investigation on this phone to see what is making this phone drain so bad. I took a look at a report from iFixit.com and they revealed some pretty interesting things built into the Verizon iPhone. I am not going into detail about it but you can google it and see for yourself and read the article about the components. They built the phone with not only CDMA tech but also GSM. Now what purpose would that serve? Honestly? That is a big battery drainer right there. Secondly, they found that the phone contained a different model battery that was lighter and had less capacity than the GSM version of the iPhone 4. That's a second red flag. My mission right now is to get Apple's attention that these phones do indeed have aproblem and they need to be looked at because this just aint workin'. I have had several replacements done (all have the same issue), several thousands of people are reporting the same results with their battery on the web, and Apple chooses to ignore it. Something needs to be done and I encourage any Verizon iPhone user to take action and make this issue known. I have a website with contact information of people who work high up in the chain of Apple along with Scott Forstall's contact info. Go to http://idevicesupport.webs.com/apps/blog/show/6441029-update and find a contact you like and call it and deman that apple investigate these phones. We can get this issue resolved if we make it known. Don't be mean or nasty to them. They are very nice people but at the sametime don't let them talk over you. Make your voice heard. Thanks for listening guys. Take care. - Joe

  • I am moving to Europe - can I bring my Verizon iphone 5 or should I buy a new one there?

    Hello,
I am moving to Europe, specificaly France, soon and would like to know if I should bring my Verizon iphone 5, or just buy a new one there, since I will have to start a new contract with a European phone company while I am there. I haven't bought my new iphone 5 yet (because I am waiting for this answer) but my mother is alligble for an upgrade with her Verizon account and can get a brand new Verizon iphone 5 for a great deal. She was going to give it to me, but I am leaving for France in 3 months where I will be living there for at least a year. I was going to just purchase a new iphone 5 with one of the European phone companies (like Orange or Vodaphone, ect.) since I will be getting a good deal on them too (when signing up for a new contract), but if the Verizon iphone will work exactly the same over in Europe, I would rather get it now. Either way, I will be spending about the same amount of money. Will I be restricted somehow using a US iphone 5 in Europe, or are the US iphone 5's any different from the iphone 5's in Europe (or tide to European phone companies? Do they offer an insurance plan? (I'm not sure if this even exists in the US. I will be a new iphone user!) I'm just curious what which iphone will be more efficitant to use, since I will be spending most of my time in Europe.
    I appreciate you answer!!

Click on the links on the right for some good information. The only concern is that a phone purchased in the States will only be seviced for any repairs in the States. You will not have any warranty coverage in France.

The CDMA iPhone 4 does not use a SIM at all. There is no SIM slot. It is a pure CDMA phone.

  • Whenever i go to open a picture message in full view the black loading screen just comes up with no picture? (verizon iphone 5)

I have a 32gig iphone 5 on verizon and whenever i go to open a picture message the black screen that says loading just comes up and i can't view the picture... any help? PLEASE!

Try using the wall charger to charge your iPhone.  Some USB ports do not enough power to charge your phone, or at the very least, it will take a much longer time than a wall charger.
You will find that after having it plugged into the wall for 10min, it will have enough power to indicate that the battery is now charging.
Save your money from buying a battery for your next iPhone  :-)

  • App Won't Open on Verizon iPhone

    Hello All,
A few days ago I purchased an app called "Skeptic's Dictionary" for $0.99.  After it installed, I went to open it and it immediately closed.  After 2 days worth of troubleshooting to fix it, as well as emailing the app's developer, I came to the conclusion that it's not compatible with Verizon's iOS, which is 4.2.8.  The app's developer, in no uncertain terms, basically said it's designed to run on iOS 4.3, which is the latest version of iOS and what AT&T's iPhones have, but not Verizon's.  This app was released at the very end of March, so it wasn't around prior or 4.3.  Do a Google search, you'll see that Verizon's iPhone's iOS is behind.
Anyways, from what I've read online, Apple sent letters to app developers explaining this and asked them to update their apps to run on both iOS 4.2 and 4.2.8.  Obviously this one did not and now I'm out $0.99.  Not a whole lot, but it's still money.  If I had known about this issue before purchasing this app, I never would've purchased it and instead could've used that $0.99 on an app that I could use.  I know iTunes doesn't give refunds, I don't care.  If it had been a $5+ app, then I'd be pretty mad, but whatever.  I'm now hesitant on purchasing anymore apps because of this; I don't want to waste money on an app that I have no clue if it'll work or not since I don't have the most recent iOS on my phone.
    Anyways, my questions:
    1) Does this developer have to update his app to work on iOS 4.2.8?  Given Apple's strict App & App Store policy, I'm surprised this app managed to slip by them since it doesn't work on Verizon's iPhones, which make up a LOT of the iPhone user base.  Should I send iTunes an email letting them know about this app's issue?  If I do, will they do anything about it?
    2) Is Verizon going to get iOS 4.3 at all?  It came out in March and it's now July.
    3) Has anyone else with a Verizon iPhone had the misfortune of downloading an app that doesn't work because it's not compatible with anything below iOS 4.3?

Sorry, above, it should be "Apple sent letters to app developers explaining this and asked them to update their apps to run on both iOS 4.3 and 4.2.8"
For some reason the "edit" button is not on my OP.

  • New Apple ID for Verizon iPhone?

Getting my new Verizon iPhone tomorrow, and trying to decide whether to create an additional Apple ID. I already have an iPad and my wife has an AT&T iPhone, both of which are set up and logged in with our original ID. The new phone will be my work phone, so I'm leaning toward setting up a new ID for it only. Question is, do I lose access to all my previously purchased songs, apps, etc being transferred to my new phone from my iTunes library? A little help would be great. Thanks in advance.

There is no benefit with doing this.
All 3rd party apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account used to download the apps with. Getting a new Apple ID or iTunes account will be more trouble than it is worth - whatever you think the worth with a new iTunes account will be. Constantly having to log in and out with each iTunes account with iTunes on your computer, etc.

  • Verizon iPhone 5 Update Fixes Cellular Use on WiFi Bug

If you have been seeing higher cellular data usage while you are on WiFi, good news, Verizon has fixed this bug.  All you need to do is update your Carrier Settings to 13.1 and the bug is fixed.
For directions on how to update your Carrier Settings, see:
Verizon iPhone 5 Update Fixes Cellular Data Use on WiFi Bug - EVDOinfo.com
Be interesting to see if this fixes the issues for all those having the problem

I have the exact same problem!
I'm using the iPhone 5 now under Carrier M1 Singapore 13.0 and I have noted that over a period of 2 weeks, my cellular data usage has been about 2.7GB on an average. Since I know my bill has been capped at 3GB, I have since switched off my cellular data.
However, when I switched it on for a few days after using it for awhile, my cellular usage jumped by 1.2GB in just 1 day! And I used it as I would on an average day (like during an average day in the 2 weeks)!
I understand that there have been reports of a bug that have caused this problem in the US.

But I'm hoping that there's a solution for those living in Singapore? Do I seek the help from my carrier as well? But if it's a problem with the phone, then my carrier definitely would not help, right?

  • The Verizon iPhone (In My Eyes)

As a previous owner of the iPhone 3G on AT&T's wireless network, I am no stranger to the iPhone. After an abundance of lost calls, and less than satisfying customer service with AT&T, I decided it was time to make the switch to Verizon. I made the switch in December of '09 and when I purchased the Blackberry Storm2 I was almost regretting my decision. The Blackberry Storm2 was a phone full of reboots, freezing and hangups that it gave me numerous amounts of headaches. After a year of the Storm2 experience, I decided to purchase the Blackberry Bold 9650. The Bold is a great Blackberry. At the end of the day though, a Blackberry is a Blackberry. I think Blackberry mobile phones are great for those who want more in-depth e-mail options. Me personally, I want the whole experience.
"Is the iPhone coming to Verizon?" This was probably one of the most asked questions in 2010. More intense speculation of the iPhone joining another network happened last year when AT&T customers were given upgrades when they were not due for one, and were locked into a 2-year contract with a hefty ETF. Finally in January it was confirmed by Apple's Tim Cook and Verizon's Lowell McAdam that Verizon's 93 million customers would be getting the opportunity to purchase the iPhone. When I heard this news, I was a happy camper. I jumped for joy, I don't know how many times. In my opinion the iPhone is the world's best phone.
On January 7th I opened my nifty little package from Fort Worth, Texas with as much excitement as a child on Christmas day. After using it for a full day today, I know that I made the right decision to switch to Verizon in 2009. The iPhone runs beautifully on Verizon's CDMA network, despite the somewhat negative reviews. Some critics were advising customers not to purchase the iPhone because simultaneous data and voice were not an option. After using the iPhone on both AT&T and Verizon I can truly say that while AT&T offers simultaneous data and voice, you cannot even notice that the iPhone can perform these things with dropped calls and such.
I love my iPhone 4 on Verizon and I know that I am NEVER going back.
    Thank you Verizon!
