IPhone 3G won't appear in iTunes or desktop

HI there folks, I recently upgraded the OS X from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8, before the upgrade the iphone would automatically sync up with the itunes and do what it does best. However now nothing happens, iphoto will load up and show the pics on my phone, but itunes won't detect the phone even if i shut it down and reopen it with the phone plugged in. I also restarted the computer and phone and still nothing, I'm running itunes 9.0.2 and I'm sure it was the same version when I upgraded to leopard I believe.

Hi Andy,
Try downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If the issue persists, try the general troubleshooting tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

    I have a MAC OS X Version 10.3.9
My generation 3 Ipod won't appear on ITunes or my MAC desktop.
I have tried all of the suggestions on the page everyone kindly directs me to (docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950).
I have borrowed several cables to no effect.
I can't restore my Ipod ( because it won't communicate with my MAC)
I have a 100 GB external HD with firewall.
The last time my Ipod worked it was plugged into the external HD.
Should I buy a new cable with a USB plug?
Do I have dead "plug-ins" on my MAC?
Help...I need my daily podcasts for the hour-long commutes.
    Thanks
    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I have tries the cable on another Mac and my ipod did appear. So the problem lies with the Mac and not the iPod.
Will a USB connector help? What other things should I try. Help!

  • Music won't delete off iphone and won't appear in itunes

I have no idea if this issue has arisen yet with iOS 8, but I cannot swipe delete some songs off my iPhone 4S and when I try to use my computer to delete those songs, they don't even appear in iTunes. I have my iCloud settings set to hide all purchased songs in my iCloud. These songs are somehow still in existence on my iPhone and there seems to be no way to remove them from it. Is there any way of getting them off without having to reset the whole thing? Much appreciated!!

Are you sure they are on your phone?
if a song shows with a cloud icon next to it, it is NOT on the phone and therefore can't be deleted.
if you don't want it to show:
    1.  Tap cloud to download songs
    2.  Go to settings to itunes and App Store .  Turn off the switch to "show all music"
    3.  Now go back and delete the songs from the phone.  They will not show again unless you change the switch or go to purchased music.

  • IPod won't appear in iTunes or Desktop until I reset every time

Hi All. Sorry if this has been covered. I read the article on this (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950), but it didn't help.
    My problem:
I have the 30gb 5th-gen iPod and an Intel 1.83 Mac mini (10.4.8). Recently, every time I plug in the iPod, the computer refuses to mount it. The iPod screen displays the "Do not disconnect" message, but the computer and iTunes don't see it. If I perform a soft reset (middle button + Menu) the computer will then recognize the iPod, but I have to do this every time!
I looked at and tried the suggestions in the Apple support document listed above, but none of them resolve the issue. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I have a similar problem well its more serious though -- I accidentally unplugged my 80 GB video iPod prematurely from my Intel based Mac Mini without ejecting it in iTunes and now the iPod is stuck on the Do Not Disconnect screen even after it was unplugged -- plugging it back in does not help any.
I have tried restarting my Mac Mini with it plugged in does not help at all -- tried pressing the hold switch back and forth on my iPod a 5th generation video version nothing -- iPod does not appear on my Mac Desktop, any Finder windows nor does it appear in Disk Utility or iTunes.

  • My iPhone 5 won't appear in my iPhoto

My iPhone 5 won't appear in my iPhoto library so that I can import my pictures from my phone.

Connect your iPhone to your Mac.
In iTunes, under devices select your iPhone.
On the main window it shows a summary of your iPhone. Along the top of the main window are tabs. Select Photos.
The main window changes. Make sure Sync Photos with iPhoto is checked.
In the bottom right there is an 'Apply' button. click that and your photos should now sync with iPhoto.

  • Help - Apple TV won't appear in iTunes

Everything was working fine. Now it's not. My Apple TV (2.0.2) won't appear in iTunes (7.6.2) on my Macbook (10.5.3).
I can ping it. I can stream music through it (airtunes). Yes, iTunes is set to look for Apple TVs. No, no firewall is blocking anything. Mine is still listed there (in iTunes preferences) to sync with but it does not show up in the devices list.
    Things I've tried:
    - reset Apple TV
    - cut power to Apple TV and reboot it
    - reboot my Macbook
    - reinstall iTunes
    Things I've installed recently:
    - Firefox 3.0 RC 3
    - Safari 4.0 developer preview
    - 1password beta
But I wouldn't think those would do anything.
    Help!

OK, I got it to work. At first, I didn't understand your last question, because all that happens is a code is displayed on the screen. But then I realized that maybe when that happens it is then broadcasting itself, and sure enough it shows up in the devices list while the code is displayed.
I'm glad it's working now but I wonder what caused it to lose it's connection. Something happened to my Mac recently that has caused some things to behave oddly. I think I put it asleep, threw it in a bag and toted it around - but that it wasn't actually asleep the whole time. (Other symptoms I've seen are lost preferences, failure to sync events added on the iphone back to iCal, etc.)
    Thanks for the help!

  • IPhone 4 won't sync to iTunes on iMac

Recently my iPhone 4 won't sync with iTunes on my iMac. When I connect my iPhone iTunes recognizes it and I'm able to click the sync button. It goes the the sync steps, but at the end it says it can't sync becasue my iPhone is not connected to iTunes even though it is.
My iPhone, iMac and iTunes have the latest software updates.  I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
I've tried rebooting both my iPhone and iMac, but it still doesn't work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
    Wayne

I'm only asking this because I just got my phone unlocked, and the service provider suggested that I restore my iPhone by syncing it with Itunes.......but maybe I don't have to restore my phone?  Anyone with advice/suggestions?

  • My IPhone 5 won't zinc to iTunes ??

My iPhone 5 won't sinc to iTunes?? I have the latest version of iTunes on my computer and on my iPhone. When I plug in my phone it starts sincing, but it doesn't go any further than looking for purchases. Any information would be helpful! Thank you

Ran into this same problem.  This is the second time this has happened. Once with my ipod that I had to trick my Mac into recognizing and now this with my iPhone.  Congrats Apple, you've now converted me to a Microsoft user, and I feel oh so very dirty about it, but at this point you're just pulling the same tricks.  Good to know.

  • My iPhone 5 won't download fron itunes

My iPhone 5 won't download fron itunes. The icons show that they are waiting but no wireless activity is showing. If I reactivate the icons nothing happens. Very Frustrating!

I'm having the same problem... I just got the iPhone 5 today.  I've done a reset... tried it on both WiFi and LTE... tried to download through iTunes... but still nothing.

  • IPad 3 and iPhone 4S won't synch with iTunes on Mac book pro. Error message says I need to have version 10.6.3 pr later for iTunes.

iPad 3 and iPhone 4S won't synch with iTunes on Mac book pro. Error message says I need to have version 10.6.3 or later  for iTunes.  Mac iOS version 10.5.8 and iTunes on Mac is 10.6.1. iPad and iPhone version is 6.0(10A403). When I check for updates on the Mac book pro it says software versions are up to date.
When I check for iTunes version  10.6.3 it looks like it is for snow leopard operating system which I am not on. How to I get my devices to sync with computer. Everything worked prior to iOS 6 upgrade on remote devices.

    I'm having the same problem.
iPhone 4s won't sync with my Macbook Pro.
I iust updated the iPhone to iOS6 (thought it wasn't syncing before the update either).
Macbook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.8
iTunes 10.6.3 (i.e. latest update - which hasn't had an issues apart from syncing).
I tried 3 different USB sync cables. Still not syncing.
Do I really have to update my Mac OS to 10.6.8 in order to sync my phone ? I thought as long as you have iTunes 10.6.3 you're ok...
Is there a way to update to Mac OS 10.6.8 (or later) without wiping the hard drive and doing a new install?..
    thanks

My iPhone 4 no longer appears in iTunes. But it does charge. Tried most tips please help someone!

    Hi there,
No I didn't. Someone suggested in another thread that my iPod was registering as a disk instead of a device, so if I removed my iPod as a disk on Disk Utility then it would reload etc. and show up in iTunes. Which it didn't, and instead just cleared all my music (16,000 songs).
    So frustrating.
Hope if you have the same problem you are able to find a better solution!
