IPhone 3G won't boot up

Recently, I used the reset option in the iPhone 3G General Settings. Everything went fine. Just after that, when the iPhone restarted, it refuses to start up. It actually freezes at the "apple" screen.
I tried forced restart (home + power button), connecting it to computer (doesnt even recognize). Nothing seems to be working.
Requesting some suggestions. Thanks

Hello Ghozaur,
If the iPhone cannot be reset as you have tried, it may be necessary to put the iPhone into recovery mode and use iTunes to restore it per:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
As the article mentions, iTunes will not recover data from the device and you may need to restore from backup afterwards.

  • Iphone 5 won't boot up

My Dad's iPhone 5 won't boot up. It only shows the iTunes symbol/lightning cable symbol. I've connected it to my own laptop with a current version of iTunes and it asked me to update or restore the device. I tried updating (since he didn't want to lose his photos, etc. with a restore), fully downloading the 1.7ish GB file, but the phone displayed the apple logo and a gray bar underneath and my iTunes gave the following error:
"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (27)."
    And then this:
"Your iPhone can't be update; you must restore it to factory settings.
If you previously backed up the iPhone, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes."
I would do a restore but my Dad doesn't use a computer so he hasn't done any backups and he hopes for a chance to recover the data from the phone. Is there any way to access and recover the data without the phone booting up properly? Could an Apple tech at a genius bar be able to recover the data? I don't want to wipe it if there is any hope.
Help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

The iPhone is in recovery mode and the data is gone. You must restore as new and the phone will be wiped. If your dad had iCloud backup on, you might be able to get the data back.

  • My iphone four won't boot up in itunes. Help!

    Hi there,
My laptop recently had a software update and went wrong, so took in the apple store. They rebooted the system and cleaned it up, but now my iphone four won't boot up in Itunes. Any thoughts on what I can do?
    Thanks very much in advance.

I am in a Mac but I am having a similar problem with my iPod Touch (3g) and iPad 1.  Tried everything in the support article, including uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes.  When I did that, it worked for two syncs and then stopped working.  It does charge the device, and it opens iPhoto and I can import photos from the device to the computer, but not the other way. Have tired different cables, and no help.  It does sync to my windoze computer at work no problem.  All started after reinstalling Snow Lepoard.  OS and iTunes all up to date.

  • IPhone 2g won't boot up AT ALL ?!

I was going to charge my iphone on the dock, when i put it in the dock, suddenly, the screen goes all black. I hit the sleep button to boot it, but it won't boot. I tried the home button and the sleep button wont work. So went to apple.com for support, and they said to hold on the home button, while holding you add the usb cable to the iphone and then iTunes will recognize it. So i tried what apple.com told me.. but the iphone won't boot up at all! Not even a apple logo shows on the screen.. HELP PLEASE?

There are two thing you can try to solve this:
    =================================
First you can try to do this: Reset Apple Finder
    =================================
    - shut down your Mac
    - start it again with holding down the shift key (OSX will start in "save mode")
    - go to this folder: Macintosh HD/Users/___/Library/Preferences
*Macintosh HD is the name off the HD, can be different on you Mac.
*___ is your own user name
    - search for this file and delete it: com.apple.finder.plist
*By deleting the file you will reset the finder settings, this will solve the problem. There won't change anything for you after deleting the file. This file contains only settings the system made by it self. But now your Mac will start properly again and make a new com.apple.finder.plist file
Now restart you iMac without holding the shift key, so just a normal start-up. Now Your Mac should start normal again!
    =================================
If this did not work, you can try this: Repair the Disk Permissions:
    =================================
    -Search your installation DVD's.
-Insert the disc 1 and sthut down your Mac
-Start your Mac again while holding down the C key
-Now your Mac should boot from the CD, this can take some time.
-After a while you will see a installation screen where you can chose a language.
    -Chose English and continue.
-Then click some time's next and agree with the "Software Agreement".
    -Open Disk Utility.
You can find it on top in menu Utilities > Open Disk Utility.
-Select your hard disk in the list of disks and volumes on the left side
-Go to the First Aid (tab somewhere on the right).
-Click the button to verify the permissions.
-Then Click the button to repair the permissions.
-Exit the Disk Utility and the installer.
Last thing you can do now is hoping your mac will start fine.
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • Iphone 4 won't boot up

I plug in my iphone 4 and the battery symbol shows pretty much dead but it won't boot up, never takes a charge - new battery.  Is the motherboard fried?

Charger is faulty or battery is faulty. Try different charger. Make Genuis reservation and take iPhone to Apple for quick (minutes) free battery diagnostic testing.

  • IPhone 5 won't boot up, error 4005 when trying to restore!

First things first - English is not my first language so please excuse the errors I make. If anything is unclear/badly explained just say so and I will do my best to try again.
I am the (right now not so) happy owner of a iPhone 5 64GB since late april. It was purchased online in the germal localization of apple store.
For a month or two everything was alright, but suddenly the phone went out and restarted - at first I panicked a bit, but after a few weeks without any problems I thought that was a one time occurrence. Then it happend again. And again. And again. Sometimes it didn't restart for over an hour. (This was especially aggravating while I travelled and all my tickets were on that phone.) This all was while iOS 6.X was still a thing.
I updated to iOS 7 as soon as it was out and it worked well for some weeks. Then it broke down again and didn't boot at all, it was looped in the process. I panicked and googled and restored it successfully via restore mode. (Against all advice from backup though.)
It worked for a while but a few days ago it broke down again. Annoyed I wanted to repeat it, but restore mode wouldn't work anymore! That "connect to iTunes" symbol won't even show up and iTunes doesn't recognize the phone.
I tried DFU mode, iTunes now connected and initiated the restore process. But while it showed "Waiting for iPhone" the phone (in DFU mode!) suddenly tried to restart over and over (logo showing and fading and showing again...). Everytime I got "Error 4005". (That seems to be a error usually occurring when a cable or an adapter is broken, so I believe that the rebooting of the phone "broke" the connection to iTunes or something?)
    What I tried so far:
    Switching cables
    Crying
    Different computers
my main computer (Win7 64 Pro), with my full iTunes library
a new account on my main computer, iTunes without a linked ID
my MacBook Air (OSX Lion) with a linked iTunes and, after reinstalling, a "blank" one
another computer with Win7 64 Pro and a virginal iTunes (this got Error 4014 the first time, after that also 4005)
    "Repaired" Apple Mobile Device Support
    Crying some more
I haven't had a phone for several days now and I'm giving up. I will contact support tomorrow.
But is there ANYONE who knows this problem? I know that the reboot loop is notorious, but that even DFU mode (and yes, I used it correctly) doesn't work? Hardware defect? (I was VERY gentle with the phone...)
Any help, information and last straws would be very much appreciated. I still hope I simply overlooked something obvious.
    Thank you!

Yesterday (April 14, 2014), my 32Gb iPhone 5S running ios 7.1 unexpectantly shutdown. After plugging it in to the MacBook that I normally sync to, iTunes told me that the iPhone was in Restore mode. After some seaching on the web, I decided to let iTunes proceed with what it claimed was the only course; a restore. It claimed that all data would be erased. I went ahead since I had a backup (old). The MacBook didn't have a copy of the most recent iOS (7.1), so it downloaded v7.1, verified it and started working with the iPhone. After a minute (roughly) the iPhone lit up, but didn't proceed past the Apple logo. iTunes eventually showed an error saying the operation was unsuccessful; ending with (4005). Apple support suggested I turn off "Find My iPhone" from iCloud. Tried that, no change in the result. I tried the restore procedure again, but this time after the restore error appeared, I dismissed the error and left the iPhone plugged in to the Mac. After a few more minutes the iPhone continued to start up! I was able to backup all data locally to my Mac, and then complete the Restore. A fresh install of iOS 7.1 and a restore from backup gave me my phone back. In summary, don't give up if you see error (4005). Hope this helps someone. And back up your phone regularly!

  • Iphone 3G won't boot past apple logo - not typical case that I've searched and read about

I am attempting to fix an Iphone 3G for a friend.  Before the phone stopped working, they said the battery life was getting worse progressively until the point that they had to turn down the brightness and have it plugged in often.  The phone was jailbroken and unlocked for use on Tmobile.  I don't know what firmware it's on nor how it was jailbroken, just that they said it worked fine for 3 years.  When this problem first occurred, my friend was able to get the phone into recover mode, but it would shut down after several seconds even when plugged into a computer or power source.
Currently, the phone will not boot past the apple logo.  It powers up, goes to the apple logo, and powers down 20 or so seconds later.  The spinning gear never appears.  I can not get the phone to boot into recovery nor DFU mode.   The computer doesn't recognize it or even acknowledge when it is plugged in, so irecover that some people use to solve their recovery loop mode i won't work either.  I have the luxury of having a functional iphone 3g that I used to swap parts to narrow down the culprit.
    Steps taken:
    replaced battery
swapped usb connector on bottom of phone
swapped lcd assembly in case it was the home button
took the motherboard out and placed it in the working phone, and it still doesn't boot past the apple logo
I'm out of ideas at this point.  Thanks for anything you guys (and gals) can think of.

I See a lot of those on my bench. The cause is the charge IC is burned out usually by a non Apple cable. The only way to get it to fully boot is to put a fresh charged battery in. Once a new fully charged battery is in it will continue to work fine including charging. But if you ever power off the device or it turns off due to dead battery it will not boot up on its own And you will need to swap batteries again.

  • Iphone 4 Won't boot up, keeps timing out

Yesterday I installed the latest software update and now my phone won't turn on.  The apple comes up, then eventually it times out and turns back off and then back on showing the apple then timesout again.  Can't get it to completely turn off or boot up.

Google "iPhone DFU mode". Restore it in DFU mode to force a reinstall of iOS.

  • IPhone 5 won't boot after 8.1 update

I'm having an issue with my iPhone 5. I just upgraded from 7.0.4 to 8.1. After that, i turn the power button on, the white bootup screen shows, then the phone shuts right off. It does this when i plug it into a power source as well. I just can't get it to boot into the phone itself at all. What happened, and what can i do to get it back?

    Hey mknabster,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPhone will not turn on. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • IPhone 4 won't boot up if not connected to wall plug

Okay so I've been using my black 16GB iPhone 4 for quite a period of time now. Recently I got a new 32GB white one, so I changed over. One day I was kind of bored so I tried to boot up my black iPhone. It didn't work. I hooked it up to the charger(wall) and when the lock screen loaded, it showed me the "connect to iTunes" background. So I unplugged it and the screen just went off. I saw the battery percentage was about under 10%, enough to run right? I hooked the phone up to my laptop but it would not boot. I even tried jailbreaking it but the phone still could not boot up. Now I'm just leaving it at the charger(wall) and it seems to be rebooting itself? Is this some kind of recovery loop or hardware failure? My 1 year warranty is over by the way.

Charger is faulty or battery is faulty. Try different charger. Make Genuis reservation and take iPhone to Apple for quick (minutes) free battery diagnostic testing.

  • HT4623 iphone 5 won't boot up

After trying to update the IOS on the phone per the itunes.  The software crashed and computer rebooted.  Iphone 5 will now not boot up to normal screen and shows only a itunes logo on a black screen showing to connect it to the cable.  Cable is connected but now is not being recognized by the computer?
    Any ideas?

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

  • HELP! My iPhone 4 won't boot up!

I deleated a few apps to free up some space on my iPhone 4. I decided to power the device off so the deleated apps and free space could take. When i pushed the power button to turn on the phone after about 15 seconds, the phone turned on. It stalled at the Apple logo. I contacted my carrier for tech support, and did everything the lady asked (I contacted via internet, powered the phone off, tried syncing to iTunes, etc.). Nothing worked. She referred me to Apple. Please help!

Because I noticed this in another question, and feel it may be appropriate,
The phone is NOT jailbroken. I purchased through AT&T less than 1 year ago.
