IPhone 3G won't connect to D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Router

My wife and I picked up iPhone 3Gs last week, and we got home and instantly had issues connecting to our home's Wi-Fi. I assumed at first it was an iPhone issue, but think it's likely more an issue with my router. The router is brand new (two months old). I have updated the firmware to the most current (version 1.11). Both iPhones apparently connect to the router (they show Wi-Fi bars and it shows full strength), however, when I attempt to access the iTunes store, I got an error that it fails to connect, that I need to be connected to via Wi-Fi to access. I've tried everything with the router I can think of (turning of wireless security, using only WPA vs. WPA2, and having a very simple password). With each setting, it shows the phone is connected, but iTunes says I'm not. I've successfully connected to 5 other wi-fi routers without issue. Some have similar settings to my home router. Other router models I've connected to include Linksys, Trendnet, and D-Link. However, none of those have been a N router. I set my DIR-655 to work only in the wireless b and g range only, reset networking on my phones, but still doesn't work. I just don't know if there's something I'm overlooking on the settings that might keep the devices from working properly together. Any thoughts.

If it works on other networks it is most likely a compatible issue with your router (as you have surmised). Do you have MAC filtering enabled on your router? If so, have you entered the MAC address of the phone (In Settings/General/About it is called WiFi Address).
When you are connected to your router go to Settings/WiFi and tap the arrow to the right of the network name. Look at the IP address of the phone. If its pattern is 169.254.x.y this means your router is not assigning an IP address to the phone. That is almost certainly a router issue.
Next look at the DNS address. Is it the same as the DNS address on your other computers? As an experiment try changing it to a public DNS address like the ones provided by OpenDNS (www.opendns.com), 208.67.222.222.

  • Airport Extreme Card wont connect to D-Link DIR-615 (wireless N router)

Hi, I got an old Mac G5 that has the airport extreme card in it and can't connect to the internet through with my D-Link DIR-615. I tried a couple options on a MAC but didn't work. I have a Laptop running Windows Vista and had no problem connecting. I'm using WPA for security and my password has 31 characters. Do you guys think That I have to change the length of my password to 26 or even less? Is there any guide that you guys may know that cuold help me on this issue?
    Thanks a lot.

This would be telling me that your G5's AirPort is NOT "seeing" the D-Link's wireless network as encrypted with WPA, but with WEP instead. This typically can be caused by either the D-Link's current configuration is incompatible with the AirPort card or that there is something amiss with the AirPort card itself.
BTW, My D-Link has WEP, WAP-Personal and WAP-Enterprise
Ok, we will want to stick with either WEP or WPA-Personal.
We now have two choices: 1) Continue to troubleshoot additional configuration changes to the D-Link to try to get WPA to work with your G5, or 2) Switch to the lower strength encryption: WEP.
Which would you prefer to try?

  • Setting up D-Link DIR-615 wireless N router with a macbook pro

    Hello all.
I am trying to setup a D-Link DIR-615 wireless N router with my macbook pro. I got the router, opened it, put in the startup CD, and nothing works.
I went to the D-Link site and it says that the CD is not compatible with mac's, but to look on pages 10-15 in the user manual ( on the CD), which I did and found nothing related to setting up the router on my mac.
So I'm at the very beginning (putting in the initial CD) of setting this up, and wondering how to do it. Can anyone guide me through it or point me to a thread or online description of how it's done. I have very little computer background but I can pick it up decently when I have to, so please help as I will be very grateful. Thanks,
    Jonathan

Unfortunately as with most routers it will be a manual affair that is quite involved. The first thing is to connect to the router over ethernet, so you should connect the cable supplied between the computer and the router and turn the router on. Go to System Preferences and open the Network panel, make sure the DCHP setting is automatic, you should have a connection if it is already on auto, there will be numbers in all the boxes when connected. In the documentation for the router you should find an IP address for the web interface along the lines of 192.168.0.1 (this seems to be the correct one for D-Link), open Safari (or another browser if you want)put this number in the address bar and press return. There will probably be a request for password at this stage, this will be in the documentation or on the bottom of the router, fill it in and you will get to the web interface. You should then be able to follow the instructions in the router documentation to set it up. It should be fairly easy through the basic setup procedure as long as you know your internet settings.

  • Problem to connect to D-Link DIR-655

I have MacBook Pro with Lion 7.1 and a router D-link DIR 655 (with latest firmware). I have had problem with the WiFi connection now and then. Just now I can not see my router in list but I can see many neigbours. It happends that I can see the router but then I connect I got timeout, I have iMac also with Lion which is connected to the same router with no problem. I have alse a IPad connected with no problem. I can connect to my wireless mobilmodem with help of a Dovado 3GN Router (WiFi connection). So what I can see I can connect things to the D-Link router but not the MacBookPro and I can connect the MacBook Pro to WiFi but not to D-Link DIR 655. What shall I do?

Download the free KisMAC and in the driver preferences enable the Apple Airport PASSIVE mode in preferences and click scan.
You will need to enter your Admin password.
Use that to scan your neighbors wifi and determine the channels they use.
Reset your router channel so it's as far from the others as possible.

  • Wireless connection to D-Link DIR-655 router

I just got a MBP and I can't connect wirelessly to my D-link router (WPA password protected; wired connection works great). Aiport sees the router, asks for the password which I enter, and then I get the message "the selected network uses and Access Control List.. and this computer is not on the list." I've tried to add the MBP to my network using the Network Magic process for adding new devices (which worked just fine to wirelessly connect my PC laptop from work), but it can't seem to find the MBP. I tried the steps suggested by iVmichael to someone having a similar problem April 5-6, and also tried disabling my network lock, but so far haven't found the magic combination. Suggestions?
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   D-Link DIR-655 router
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I had a similar problem and I needed a second computer (B) using a wired connection to the router to allow the other one (A) in. This is what I did:
    1. Using the wired computer (B) I opened up the network so any computer could join the network wirelessly.
    2. I joined the network with (A) wirelessly.
    3. Once I had successfully joined the network with (A) I used the wired computer (B) to do a search for new computers so (A) could be registered in the Access Control List.
    4. Using (B) I closed the network again.
    5. Now I could join the network with (A) wirelessly without any trouble.

  • Trouble getting wireless to work with new D-Link DIR-655 wireless router

I have the Mac Pro with the Leopard operating system. I just recently bought a DLink DIR-655 wireless router to use with my internet. All my PC's can get online just fine, but my Mac is painfully slow and sometimes disconnects altogether. Is there some settings I need to figure out in order to make it work correctly?
    Please help

I for one am having constant problems since I returned from a July honeymoon. All was good with a “Draft-N” D-Link router, but since returning I’ve had many, many connection failures WIRED. I have no Airport card in my Mac Pro 8 core. Same setup as when I left and all was well: Cable Modem>D-Link (NOW the sam DIR-655. Thanks, CostCo). CAT 5 to: Mac Pro, HP 2605DN printer, and connected to my hard-wired system to two rooms in my house.
Here’s a big clue for me. When I reboot into a bootable backup drive I haven’t updated since May 30, I seem to have no problems. Also, on the normal boot drive, my MobilMe (ugh) mail account was giving me fits. I deleted and tried to have it automatically fill in the settings as it used to, but now I need to supply all other sorts of info and can’t restore it. One last thing, if it helps. On my normal, badly-working boot drive, the iDisk says “MobilMe” On the older drive I’m on now it says dontruett.
I’d welcome advice. I’m taking a guess that some update I did since May 30 cause this and am ready to clone the working drive back to the main boot drive, losing a bunch of things in the process.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.

  • Have a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router and Having WEP or WPA issues? READ TH

I just contacted D-Link with the following Letter and wanted to post this here for anyone that may need it:
"I have to say that I do truly enjoy this product since I got it to work, but I have some things to clear up.
Are your Level 1 techs truly trained in networking equipment? I called 3 times for help with this issue and no one was able to help me nor completely understand my problem... I apologize for the tone, but it is frustrating when a tech repeats a procedure 4 times (I can understand repeating something 2 times if needed) - when I tell him it doesn't work I feel we should move onto another trouble shooting step. So what I would like to do is tell you what I did to fix the issue in case another person runs into this and they call you for support.
I have a an iMac (but this problem will be reproduced on any Mac with an Airport Extreme card) and I can only get on the internet wireleslly because of the location of my computer and the cable modem/router.
The DIR-655 that I picked up from best buy was Hardware Revision A2 and the Firmware was 1.05 (the latest at this current time)...
If I setup this router with the default settings. The wireless connectivity worked fine - although if I were to apply any type of security to the wireless settings (WEP, WPA 1 or 2 Personal) I would not be able to join the network. The Mac OS would keep telling me that there was an error joining the "xxxxxx" network (where xxxxxx was the SSID of my router). Anyways after tinkering for almost 3 hours and running back and forth resetting the router and testing with multiple Macs I was stumped and decided to get a copy of the 1.04 version of the firmware and downgrade the router back down to see if it was an issue with the latest firmware. Guess what - works perfect...
I would love to see a version 1.06 come out soon that addresses this issue and has the bug fixes from 1.05. But I can guarantee you there is something in the 1.05 firmware that will stop Macs from wirelessly connecting to the router when any type of wireless security is in place.
Please advise your techs of this issues and hopefully come up with a fix for this issue.
    Thank you for your time."
I hate when tech support eats half your day with something that could have been fixed in minutes if people are properly trained.

  • Time Machine back up with hard drive connected to D-Link DIR-655

Recently D-Link updated the share port utility with a mac version. I have heard that Time Machine does not easily recognize network shared hard drives but to my surprise this morning it did. With using the new software and hooking up my hard drive to my router Time machine recognized it! This is great since I dont have to buy a Time Capsule now.

First, since this is *unsupported by Apple,* there's nowhere to go when there's trouble.
    Here's the official word: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1733
Second, you're risking a future update preventing it from working, and perhaps rendering your backups useless.
It's your choice, of course, but I wouldn't trust my primary backups to it.

  • D-Link DIR-655 Troubles (N-Router)

Everytime I try to log onto my router (192.168.0.1) I get this : (See Photobucket Pic). It only happens on my G5 (running 10.4.10). You click on either button, nothing ever happens. Just the pinwheel of death forever. I can log on fine with other computers wirelessly. One possible clue: The G5 is connected directly to the router via ethernet.
I called D-Link Tech support. They had me do all this resetting stuff. It didn't fix the prob. They then authorized me to get a new one. I did. This new one does the same thing. So its not the router. This happens no matter what type of browser I use (Safari, Firefox, etc).
What is wrong with my G5? Please help!

  • Airport Express vs. D-Link Dir-655 = no xbox connection

I cant seem to get my airport express to connect to m exisisting network. it just wont work. it keeps asking me to find apple devices at the end of the setup. Meaning it was me to find a airport extreme or time capsule. which i do not own .
I own a D-link dir-655 wireless n router and i cant get them connected together. my router/modem is downstairs in the living room, and my flatscreen is in my room and the xbox.
I want use my airport in my room for the xbox and and play live can anyone help?
    HALO REACH!!!PLSS!

I am using a D-Link DIR-655 as well and trying to hook up the Airport Express to extend the range as well. I have tried just about everything, and well nothing seems to be working. I updated the router to its latest Firmware, and I don't think that the router has the capability to use WDS settings. I have even tried to find some DD-WRT for it and no one has made anything for it, it seems to be something with what D-Link does to the router or its hardware specs.
Anyways, I've tried to get my Airport Express to join my network even tho it is not a 802.11n its the older version, but on my router settings I am set to use 802.11n/g or even b.
    For the Xbox problem set it up with an Ethernet cable because;
    1. You don't want lag
    2. Its a helluva lot easier.
If you must connect it wirelessly, make sure your adapter is plugged in fully and that you actually have one. The Xbox's do not come with wireless adapters unless you have purchased a new Xbox 360 Slim ( I believe there calling it ).

  • I have airport extreme 802.11AC as a base that connect to Cable modem. How can I connect D-link DIR-655 to AE to utilize as an extender or repeat?

    Hello-
I have wireless router Airport Extreme 802.11AC that connect direct to Cable modem...how can I setup the D-Link DIR-655 wireless router to AE and act as extender or repeater?. Thanks in advance.

Apple has done their best to install proprietary software in their wireless routers that is designed to only allow other Apple routers to repeat or extend the network wirelessly.
So, the chances are extremely small that a D-Link....or another other router for that matter.....could be configured to do what you ask.
There are no settings on an AirPort Extreme that would allow a D-Link device to extend the network, so all that you can do is experiment with different settings on the D-Link device to see if it might be possible for it to extend the network.
A post on a D-Link support forum might be a good idea to see if any D-Link specialists have some ideas on this topic.
    Good luck.

    Hi,
I have the same trouble. After reading many internet sites around this subject I found the following solution.
Although apple explained that it is not necessary with the lightning connector to use it in a special direction this seems not to be true.
I have just turned my connector by 180° and it is working again.
Hopefully this direction does not fail too. There are only 2 possibilities

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

Ah, sure it actually won't.  I have the same problem, and I contacted Apple Support.  They told me that there is an incompatability between the iphone 5 and MacBook Pro Retina such that Bluetooth pairing is not possible.
The Support Agent actually had the audacity to tell me this was part of the design of the OS on the MacBook Pro, like Windows people saying, "That's not a bug.  It's a feature!!"
Personally, I think this is insane.  While I was trying to tether the iphone to the MacBook Pro retina for an internet connection, there are other reasons related to file transfers for which one would want to pair the iphone 5 with the MacBook Pro retina.
I am hoping this "feature" is fixed in iOS 7, and/or in some dot release of Mac OS 10.8.
By the way, the personal hotspot feature on my Verizon iphone 5 works great either via a wifi or USB connection.  There are occaisions, however, when one would 1) not have a USB cable, and/or 2) have another wifi relationship between the phone and a network that one would not want to have to "forget" in order for it not to connect to that wifi network.  The Macbook will not find the iphone as a wifi hotspot if the iphone is connected to wifi in the first place.  At least mine won't.
